Jinx looks around noting the silence and rage of the brute beside her. She looks straight in front of her, lost in her own thoughts, with slight focus on her paws lightly shifting the dirt and plants beneath her paws as she walked. Jinx looks over to the brute for a moment before speaking, "if you prefer we can go hunting instead." Her voice now contained a hint of agitation to her normally chillingly calm tone, "You seem like you need it."

atlas
━━━━━━━━━━━

four weeks.
adryan. loners. cougar.

adryan disappeared, the loners escaped, and a cougar attacked. the brute had tried to fight off that cougar but ended up with scars. his gaze fell hard on some pangaea wolves; they moved closer to salem. atlas allowed a low snarl to come out of his chops, his claws digging into the ground. they moved closer to salem because of humans. humans working on their territory. why can't they just simply find a new place to live? if they did, the whole forest would belong to salem. atlas shook the thought away. still, he couldn't believe that adryan disappeared. where would she go? hunt down the loners? the brute hoped so.

atlas looked down at his paws. he allowed a lethal snarl to come out of his chops. those loners got away. now, he was begging to find them, and end their lives. all three of them. and, he wanted to find adryan, and just hoped she was okay. he knew so much was happening. pain throbbed in his abdomen. he could see the cougar, hissing and its claws thrashing out. adryan on the ground, paralyzed. zavia hurt. him --- atlas --- hurt. patches of fur were on the ground, blood just everywhere. the brute's eyes shut and later found himself in the healer's den. but no adryan.

no adryan could be seen. atlas's head started to throb. throbbing with strong pain. the brute opened his eyes once again. he just wanted to hunt down those loners, and take their lives. atlas looked back down at the wounds he earned. those wounds held a memory. a strong memory atlas wouldn't forget. now, just glancing back at the forest, atlas had a feeling he could still see the blood. before adryan disappeared, atlas could see her. breathing heavily, eyes shut, ebony pelt soaking, like zavia and him. the brute shivered. stop thinking about that memory. now.

that was the last time he saw the assassin.

His claws flexed into the unwelcoming soil, churning it underneath his grasp at the world. This place was ridiculous, sickly, filthy. His pack was in no way able to stay here on the Salem territory for long. There was a lack of nourishment in the air, everything around him screamed death. He had seen a pack mate of his stand next to a Salem wolf. The difference between them was impeccable. The Guardians were more plump, bountiful with their prey and medicinal herbs. The Demons, they were lanky and agile, easily adapting to the horrid terrain they could survive on for years to come. The multicolored brute lifted his head as he heard paws approach back into the little area he was currently residing in. His optics blazed with an unforeseen fire, none which Katara or Judas could recognize. He rose to all four paws, moving away from the place where he sat. "Good. Now that you're back, I'm sending two groups on patrol. We're going to get out of Salem territory as soon as possible and find somewhere to stay, at least temporarily before we can find a new home." Ezekiel's eyes shifted over all of the wolves, his family, his loved ones, the ones he would protect until his last breath.

"Dremora. You're taking the scouting group. You'll be looking at grounds off of Salem lands, see if you can find anywhere we can stay. Octavius, Aurora, Katara, you'll be going with Dremora. Cicero, take Judas, Octavia, and Solstice with you. You'll be hunting for us. Maunx, you're taking Talisa and guarding her while she finds herbs--OFF of Salem territory. I don't want Akela or his healer at my throat." He looked at the remaining wolves after the three groups had split. "The rest of us are going to stay here, find more bedding for the others and guard our camp. Understood?" His blue gaze shifted and he cleared his throat. "Let's get moving. I want everybody back here before sundown. If you see any Demons, show them respect, and stay out of their way."

Blake sat at the opening to her den, her hazel eyes empty as she watched the conversation go down between Akela and Katara, Judas standing off on the sidelines, looking like he was only there to make an image. Once the two Guardians had scurried out of the camp, she rose to her feet and took her time, her steps soft and quiet as she approached Akela's den. She leaned against the edge of the entrance, her tattooed forelimb taking most of the weight. Between the blank ink permanently emblazoned on her arm, there were dull pink scratches, littered all across her body, especially her muzzle and chest. She was missing a chink out of her left ear--thanks to Adryan. Though the assassin had left while the two were on negative terms, the healer would still jump at the chance to apologize for her foolish actions, and stitch up any wounds the young fae had.

Her gaze softened and she took a few more steps into the den, lowering her hind towards the floor and seating herself right on the line between the sunlight and the shadows of the den. Her back was visible to the rest of the pack--showing that Akela was not open to have any discussions. "I still can't sleep, though it's already been a month." She murmured, turning her gaze to the side. "I toss and I turn, just thinking about how I could've done something different. How I shouldn't have spoken against you, telling you to not kill those loners. How I disrespected you, her, everybody." She couldn't help but feel guilt slash at her heart, as she blamed herself for Adryan's disappearance, and the escape of the loners. "I know you've told me to stop apologizing, Alpha. But I can't. Not when I know that everything that happened that night was my fault. I was barely even able to save Atlas and Zavia after that cougar. . ."

The world about them was two simple shades; black and white. On the ground and in the air, pure white snow dominated. A cold, damp, a life stealing substance that coated the entire earth. It fell from the sky, so slow, so hypnotic, so soothing, so deadly, yet blown delicately about the wind, appearing innocent as could be. The ebony was the sky that spat the white flakes of damnation, and it stretched as far as the eye could see. Its entirety and absoluteness was petrifying, as it reminded one just how insignificant they were in the greater scheme of things. To the right laid an abyss, one with sharp rocks jutting from the dark bottom, which was wide and black like the hungry mouth of a slumbering creature. To the left laid a pine forest, dark, mysterious and uninviting - no light emitted from the treeline, and nothing except for shadows stirred. No stars were visible on that particular evening either, which clearly meant the spirits were caught up in their own troubles and could not be bothered to meddle with mortal events at the moment.
In the choking, bleak yet simple hold of winter, a young pup was burrowing into its dying mother's belly. Both of them were starving, their pelts mangy and ragged, their eyes bloodshot and watering from the cold wind, their spines poking from their bodies, and their paws blistered and bleeding. Yet the mother was the one not prepared to move forward. She had not run out of energy; she merely had no heart left within her to continue. Why would she? Six of her seven pups were dead. The last one remaining was the eldest and yet the weakest, the scrawniest, the odd one out. The solstice she sought would never come - she'd been traveling for over a season searching for solstice, never to find it. So why fight any longer?

Amaro's paws pounded the ebony earth, and his breathing grew steadier. His silver muzzle parted, tongue coming free, slobber flying in the wind, staining the fertile earth beneath him. His heart pounded, and yet, the sound never truly reached his ears. He was nothing, he was everything. He was surreal, yet real. He was a mortal, and yet, he felt no physical pain. He was nothing, and yet everything, for the desire that had burned within him from the moment he'd been conceived raged fully within him.

"Mother Ophelia please," the pup begged, burring himself deep within the fringes of her tattered sable belly fur, "don't leave me in this world alone. Its too vast... to much... please stay with me a bit longer, please." The frightened, starving ebony brute had been begging shamelessly for the last few minutes, and at this point, she just wanted peace. Ophelia regarded her last pup through her rapidly fading vision, taking in his weak, bony physique, his hopeful, teary amber eyes, his trembling, moist lips, flush from the cold and already tinged grey with stress. Nothing would become of him, she knew. Ophelia had seen his actions, and knew he didn't have what it took. So she told him the truth, which should've been enough for him leave her be for her last few moments. "I watched as my pups - your siblings - left this earth too early, one by one, because you never helped them. I asked you to do one thing, one thing! Protect them! I fed and nurtured you, and you let them all die as if you didn't love them. I should've never raised you. How the hell did something so pathetic and absolutely worthless come out of me? If I'd had seen it soon enough, I could've saved the others; more food for everyone. But no. I failed, and this is my reward. To die, with no one around me but a worthless, disgusting, idiotic creature that shouldn't even be called a wolf."

Ophelia snapped weakly at him then, viciously snarling, "[removed] Alberic.... I shouldn't have even given you that name. It carries more dignity and meaning than you'll ever even be able to fathom. It means one of power! One of dignity! One of grace! One of benevolence! A being of intelligence - all things that you are not! Get out of my sight, you worthless piece of flesh. I hope you die a long, slow, painful death with nothing but the buzzards as company." Ophelia then laid her head down upon a mountain of snow and coughed, waiting for her pup to run off and die like the worthless maggot he was, thankfully, leaving her to die in peace. The pain that suddenly shone in his youthful, hope filled eyes made her smile one last time. That was all she needed to see before she slipped away into the next life.

Time had just about stopped in the eyes of two beings. That dense, choking black fog that permeated the Salem territory whipped by its wide chocolate orbs in slow motion. The barren trees stood strong, their gnarled limbs reaching for the sky, and occasionally jutting into his path. Birds cawed in alarm and hastily took to the sky as a young rabbit shot through the forest, stumbling and scrambling in his haste to survive, moving quickly yet clumsily. Blood flew from the injured rabbit's hindquarters, soiled the earth, and the whole area reeked of it. Blood - the currency of life. And drawn to it, a shadow. A shadow of death, ripping through the forest on the left, keeping pace with ease. Waiting to strike, as silent and deadly as a black mamba, patiently waiting to rip away life that would sustain him and his brethren. This was his duty. The dark shadow's strides lengthened, and his breathing grew heavier as he pushed himself, rapidly gaining on the hare before him.

The little pup felt pain. He felt hunger. He felt grief. He felt fear. But he also felt free. For the longest he'd watched as his mother coddled the rest and left him cold, had filled their bellies first and left him scraps, had glared and cursed him under her breath for his imperfections and mistakes. But now, he knew how she really felt; no doubt remained. The young brute clambered from her cold belly, crying no longer from sheer shock and pain. For a second he just stood and gazed at the gorgeous, deadly scene before him, watching the snowflakes fall. He could run into the abyss and perish painlessly in seconds, or delve into the forest's unknown horrors... alone. For another few seconds the little brute contemplated his options, allowing his eyes to slide shut and the only thing reminding him of his existence was the wind howling through the abyss. He could fell death creeping about his body, for he was much too young - not even eight months - to go about the world alone. No one would care if he died. No one. Even the spirits had winked away, unable to be seen. Perhaps the abyss would've been the best option, but one thing kept him from doing it. That fire. Something unknown, something strong, something powerful beyond his comprehension that suddenly reverberated through the pup, so fierce and unrelenting it changed him in mere seconds. Determination to do something, and not become a lost soul, his name as worthless as the dirty beneath him. And to finally, Alberic turned and whispered to his dead mother, "I'll p-p-prove y-y-y-you w-w-wrong," the pup uttered aloud, his word broken by coughs and his own teeth chattering, his tiny voice pathetic and echoing into the world, so empty it seemed as if he were the only one in it. One little wolf pup trying to make a stand, to prove a dead, sick, twisted wolf wrong, and to actually make an impact in this massive world. What difference did it make? Why even bother?

And yet, he ran like hell into the dark pine pine forest. The little brute ran through until his legs burned, his vision blurred, and he couldn't breathe. This forest, with its massive trunks and canopy that blotted out even the slightest of light, the strange smells that snaked about the vegetation, creepy shadows watching him with their twinkling eyes and foreign animals scuttling forest; all of those factors lent him strength through fear, in addition to his determination. Eventually, he reached a point where he could only walk, his belly so empty that it felt like the acids within were gnawing a hole in him. Then he walked until he collapsed. For a second he laid there, twitching, unable to speak, unable to think of a way out. And so, he did the only thing left; he began to crawl. Flies and gnats swarmed his bleeding pawpads and tender ears, biting and annoying him, but he was too tired to swat them away. Strange shadows pressed around his rapidly fading vision, and he could hear his siblings pleas and his mothers words echoing to him in an endless monotone. Snarls and growls shook the earth around him, making the fear in his heart multiply tenfold. But he kept crawling, pulling himself through mud, grime, blood, innards and Lupus knew what else with nothing but his instincts to guide him. After a few hours of this, the world began to darken to a shade of black he'd never seen, and just as he began to slip away to Skaarsgard, dying in winter's cold embrace - just as his mother hoped he would - he heard the voices. In one last pitiful attempt he whined for someone to help him, as loud as he could, before his throat gave out and he succumbed to hoarse wheezing. "... Why the hell we gotta patrol way out 'ere? Ain't nothing but a few scraggly pine trees and the abyss - didja hear that? Oh mother of Lupus, there's a pup out here! Hurry, pick it up, we've gotta get it to Callia 'afore it perishes in the cold! This makes no sense, its too young to be out here, especially during 'dis time of winter. How did it survive? Oh my Lupus.... what 'till alpha Baron hears 'bout this!

And so began to the tale of the little bastard pup called Alberic, from beyond the unknown. The first bit of knowledge about his existence uttered to his pack, the Unified Pack of the Pines, was that he'd crawled through the forest alone; with nothing but the scraggly ebony fur on his back and a burning desire in his heart. He should've died insignificant before he'd seen two full seasons and yet, to all he met he impacted their existence in a notable way, somehow. Why hadn't he perished in the winter's cold embrace? Why did he fight through it all? Why hadn't he just gave in and allowed himself peace of mind? Why did he think himself to be something when he wasn't? Why wouldn't he just die? Why? Why? Why? All of these were questions he'd be asked during his long life. And Amaro von Alberic never answered them.

Those were questions he simply could never answer with mere words, and no one in this world would ever get to know him intimately enough to learn. The ebony brute hit full speed then, his head bobbing like a racehorse's, and suddenly, he was flying. His double hinged stride was so long that he literally ate the ground beneath him, and in seconds, he was two strides behind the frightened rabbit. With one last push, the large ebony powerfully lunged forth and snapped his fangs around the little mammal's petite throat, breaking it instantly. Sloppy, but it has been awhile since I've hunted, Amaro mused to himself, turning back towards their temporary camp, pausing for a second to allow the delicious hare blood to drip down his throat. Picking up his pace, the large, aging ebony brute trotted through the forest at a easygoing pace, his gaze surveying the trees as he made his way through the Salem territory. Admittedly, he wasn't on high alert due to the cougar attack - even if had happened only four weeks ago. No, he didn't want a run in with any of the Salem wolves. He was alone - he had no pups to worry about, he was fairly certain they didn't know that he and his pups had taken refuge there, and he had a serious chip in his shoulder. They had only bullied him and his pups by running his head into a wall, standing upon him, mutilating and traumatizing Amelia (she had lost three claws from her left foot and her right ear had a permanent tear and hadn't been in Salem since the incident) and psychologically scarring Alcatraz as well. But, at the same time, his pack, the Pangaea pack, was currently reliant on the aforementioned demons. So he was simply trying to be of some use to his pack and stay out of trouble at the same time.

Easier said the done. Tensions ran high, and a few skirmishes had even broken out. Even without him and his pups presence being unknown. With that in mind, Amaro entered just in time to hear Ezekiel giving orders, but none applied to him - after all, he was an omega, and the knew hardly anything about him. Maybe one day he would have a long, in depth talk with one of them, but that most certainly wouldn't be today, considering everything that was going on. Delivering the hare to the center of Pangaea's makeshift camp, Amaro then padded into the den that all three of them shared. There Amelia laid sleeping, and so the ebony brute gave her a gentle lick on her cranium - thankful she was actually in a deep sleep and not crying out due to nightmares - before circling, laying down and placing his head upon his paws with a soft sigh. From what he'd gleaned from gossip around him, the rankings ceremony was to do be soon. How soon he didn't know. But he intended to find out, as soon as possible, because he was darn tired off collecting bedding, occasionally hunting alone or just laying around. He desired to officially serve his pack, be of value, and return the kindness they had bestowed upon him. And when Amaro von Alberic desired something, he usually got it, regardless of the hardships that lied between him and the desired thing - for better or worse, that was simply his mentality.

It had been four weeks since their grand escape.

And in that time, Alcatraz learned humility and gratitude. In all of his travels - excluding Amaro - none of the wolves he'd met had been as kind as the Pangaea wolves. They had fed, healed and protected the threesome, no serious questions asked. It was an absolute relief to just drop the farce of strength and burden of fear and just relax. Although their injuries had been severe and the nightmares even more so, Alcatraz felt the best he had in awhile. Yet, that had been the first week. When the humans had moved into their home, pushing them out, that fear had returned. What awaited them? Alcatraz recalled himself, Amelia and Amaro all entering back into the shadowy forest they had, just a week ago, been running through in a mad dash for life-saving freedom, due to the humans. It was always the stupid humans interfering with things they had no business. It simply wasn't fair. They had stolen his adoptive mother, his home and his younger sister's limb. Couldn't they just go and destroy other places and leave him be? It wasn't as if his life was all peaches and cherries. But alas, it couldn't be, and here he was. Sharing the same territory with the wolves that had tried to kill him just four weeks ago... due to humans. All of my problems stem back to humans interfering with things they have no business with, the golden brute mused, shifting ever so slightly in his laying down position. Currently he was lounging in a bush near the outskirts of camp, just watching life go by. Amaro had just brought in a hare, but Alcatraz wasn't hungry nor did he want to deal with his adoptive father. After all, there was one thing cheering him up in all of this, and it wasn't that old, arrogant, grouchy codger.

It was Aerix. The fae brought him peace, joy and a challenge he wasn't used to, for she was someone whom could match his banter word for word and actually get to him. He remembered running into her during a hunting trip. She could've easily killed and reported him, but after trading words - mostly Alcatraz trying and failing to come up with something witty and clever - the golden brute had snatched his hare and ran, embarrassed, flustered and confused. After a few more odd occurrences it finally occurred to him that he should attempt to pursue and understand this weird feeling that had overcome him on multiple occasions, as it wasn't going away. And pursuing said feelings had led to him now, well, meeting Aerix in secret. Other individuals he knew would deem it very wrong. She was part of the pack that had tried to kill him after all. But the golden brute had learned to not immediately judge other individuals by gazing at the surface or whom they associated with - depending on the situation. After all, it could be a farce, or even an unfortunate situation where one was acting a certain way because they had to, not that they wanted to. There was that, and the fact that if he didn't at least give them a chance then hell, that'd make him the world's biggest hypocrite. Associating with the wolf responsible for perhaps some of the most despicable acts I've ever witnessed... to my mother no less. For a second Alcatraz allowed his dark liquid chocolate gaze to dance over the graying yet muscular, keen brute known as Amaro. And that was the best decision I've ever made, associating with her and looking past the initial incident. Sighing wistfully, the omega rolled onto his side and began to daydream about when he'd see Aerix, his secret crush, once again.

the assassins skillful ears picked up traces of the words shared between akela and the pangaea wolf whom was called katara. aerix couldn't care less about any of the names of the wolves in that pack, the only that name that had any meaning to her was that of her half-sister. dremora was the only wolf in the pangaea pack whom she had business with. lounging in the soft, grassy soil of her pack's camp aerix hadn't meant to eavesdrop on the conversation - not that it was eavesdropping when akela gave zero craps about keeping a low voice - she had just grown accustomed to listening in on conversations as was part of the nature of her rank. she was well aware of how deeply her alpha was disgusted with the presence of the rival pack so far within their territory, and aerix knew that should a single pangaea wolf step out of place, the whole of the demons would be upon them at akela's command.

there was something crawling up his back...he was sure of it. the husky white brute craned his head over his shoulder, eyes straining to peek at whatever creepy crawly that inhabited this territory of death was clambering upon him. cicero's nose wrinkled in disgust as a giant black spider inched it's way farther up his back. he involuntarily shivered, squeezing his eyes shut before shaking his head vigorously. "oh hell no" he grit out before flopping onto the ground and rolling onto his back. the cringey sound of the insects body crushing beneath his weight was enough to want to make him gag. as soon as the crunching sound resonated in his ears, the brute was up on his paws in a heartbeat. shaking his fur out, his eyes were drawn to his alpha as he stood up to speak. he hated that they were so close to the salem pack and he hated how the humans took it upon themselves to invade their territory. to invade their home and think it was ok? cicero ground his teeth together in silent anger. he had wanted nothing more than to slaughter each human that invaded, and had they not come with metal machines he probably would have.

as ezekiel named out wolves, cicero's ears perked up at the sound of his name. "cicero, take judas, octavia, and solstice with you. you'll be hunting for us" his alpha called. the white hunter nodded his head and rose to his paws, briefly stretching out his body before seeking out the named wolves who were to accompany him.

the stormy grey fae lifted her head at the sound of her alpha's voice, ears perked up in attention. the beta was tired, that was true, ever since the humans expanded their destructive work into her pack's territory, they were forced to move closer to the demons. she despised it and it made her a tad uneasy to be closer in proximity to the pack of savage wolves who knew nothing of mercy. dremora wasn't sure what to make of the new situation but she was focused on solely making sure no harm came to her pack during this period of unfortunate relocation. the territory around her clamoured with the scent of death. the trees, bushes, grass, even the prey in these parts looked dingy and scruffy compared to the prey they were fortunate to hunt in what used to be pangaea territory. how do these disgusting wolves live in this...this....cesspool of filth? the beta thought to herself as her soft silver eyes scanned the makeshift camp her pack resided in for the time being.

dremora refocused her attention back onto ezekiel, the large earthy brown brute who led her pack. she listened as he barked out instructions in the familiar authoritative tone that she often found quite soothing. she knew that the last thing ezekiel wanted was akela and his pack of drowned rats jumping down his throat as soon as they made a wrong move. she wanted to assure him that their stay in this putrid territory would be civil until they sought elsewhere to make their new home. she drank in his instructions, nodding her head calmly, offering her alpha an easy smile meant to bring a little reassurance to the brute. turning her head to search for the wolves he had named off, dremora's gaze first landed on octavius and aurora and she loped towards the two wolves. dipping her head in greeting, the beta began to speak. "morning you two. hopefully you've filled your stomachs enough to endure a patrol. ezekiel's asked me to lead a scouting patrol to search for new territory outside the markers of the salem pack. if you see katara let her know she is to join us as well. we'll leave shortly" the fae nodded her head to the two before turning away and settling near a dead and gnarled tree that stood alone to groom down the scruffs of fur that had ruffled.

☠ raziel . she-wolf . six and half years old . delta female . demon . tagged;; open☠

Standing in the middle of the camp, the black fea looked around. Four weeks had passed since the loners had escaped. Escaped! Raziel longed to tear into those three wolves. Of course, she would probably never get the chance. Adryan had gone missing two weeks later and that had put the pack in a tizzy. In all honesty, Raz was pretty indifferent. She didn't like the other fea at all, but she had enjoyed the fights -how evenly matched they were and how refreshing it felt. But it was still Adryan and Raziel could live without her. Then again, having his daughter missing didn't put Akela in the best mood, so there was that downside.

Sighing, the Delta fea's eyes fell on nothing, really. Thoughts graced her mind of the brute she had thought was pack. It had turned out he had just been friends with Akela and Adryan. But as now, she was pretty sure he officially had joined the pack. Raziel wasn't really sure what to think about him now. She'd hunted with him and still thought he was a good wolf, however, and knew he could most likely keep her out of trouble.

Not seeing him anywhere, Raziel shrugged and lay down, head on her paws out of boredom. The Ranking Ceremony would be tonight, she overheard. Finally. The Delta then was deep into thought, trying to figure out how the night would go.
