Maverick dipped his head as his Beta padded off to find more members for the hunt. He watched as one of his pack padded into the den after bracing the storm for a morning hunt. A sense of pride welled up in the alpha, seeing his pack so unbelievably dedicated. Maverick turned as Nanook approached, listening intently. The young Healer Trainee was a loyal and intelligent wolf with great respect from his pack "Of course Nanook. Who would like to join their healer?" The alpha raised his voice, peering his rust coloured eyes around the camp.

Harlequin lifted her head to see a she-wolf coming towards her. As her pale green eyes watched a group of wolves gather, she had already assumed what the wolf would want. A low growl rung deep in the Delta'a chest as Aphrodite spoke. "Don't tell me what I can & can't do, hunter" her usually attractive voice was now a snarl as she pulled her lips back to expose her teeth in aggression. Harlequin pulled herself to her paws, her small stature making it easier to move with less muscle. "I will be joining the hunt today", her voice ring into Aphrodites ear as she padded past the female, her barred teeth inches from the hunters ear.

Excitement gathered by the camp entrance, leading Nanook to assume spring was showing its colours. As the healer peeked his rounded ears, he caught wind of a hunt. The brute's icy eyes scanned camp as he realized the hunt was taking almost all of the remaining pack members. Turning his large head back to peer into his den, Nanook got to his paws in a rush. The healer Trainee clumsily jumped from his rock, slipping on a thin layer of black ice in the process. "Maverick!" His voice ring out through the cavern as he quickly tried to gain the leaders attention. As he neared the group, Nanook continued. "Maverick I need one of your hunters. The herb stock is low, as it's been all winter. With the first signs of spring I think I'll be able to collect some much needed materials". The young pups voice was low & respectful as he asked for his favour. Little did he want the others to know, his stock was all but empty. A hunt for a large animal could injur many wolves & Nanook would not have the supplies to help.

Bagueer's neck was stiff as he turned to acknowledge his Beta. Bones creaked, muscles screamed. The Guard was getting much too old for his job. He'd been due to retire this year, but the thought of being an elder turned the brute sour. "Thank you, Hakate". The grey wolf dipped his head low, fighting the pain & stiffness he felt. The thought of curing up into the guard's den was almost enough to brighten the old brutes pale brown eyes. Just as Bagueer pulled his body to his paws, a sharp gust of winter air howled by the cavern entrance. The wind carried the resting snow, creating a whirl of white. Nothing was visible for a few long moment. Just as fast as the gust began, it disappeared. Was that... grass?.

Hekate flicked her ears forward, watching as Aditya leapt to her paws, her body vibrating with excitement. She tilted her head slightly, fighting the smile that strayed on to her maw. She was pleased at the hopefulness that echoed in the lead hunters voice, though it was clear she was trying to reign back the overexcitement as she sat back on her narrowed haunches. Her pelt was dull just like the others but there was still a spark of hope in her eyes that pleased her “Why don’t you gather the rest of the hunters to join at the front of camp?” she remarked, smiling at the hunter before her. She dipped her head and turned towards Edon “Let’s head to the front, we will get everyone ready for the hunt” she remarked to the she-wolf. Aphrodite’s voice caused her eyes to waver towards Harlequin’s den, the she wolf’s fangs showed brilliantly against her pelt as she trudged past the Aphrodite, irritation clear in the way her fur rippled on her spine. She blinked cautiously, watching the interaction, ready to intervene if the need presented itself. With hungry wolves came quick tempers, and with quick tempers came fights. However, it seemed this slight show of aggression would pass quickly as Harlequin sauntered past the she wolf. Hekate relaxed, flicking her ears forward, as she turned to Edon “You feeling up to hunting tonight?” she asked softly, glancing across her pelt, noting the dullness and the slimness of her frame. She blinked carefully and looked at her softly.

Talia twitched her ears as he spoke, the scent on the wind did hold the promise of winters end, and she hoped that wouldn’t change. The thought of feeling the warmth on her fur made her pelt prickle with excitement “I hope winter is coming to an end, this winter has been rough” she remarked, blinking anxiously. She shifted, her tail swaying slightly behind her. Her eyes grazed over Maverik, pale green eyes glimmering with respect and softness before she turned back to Garrik “You think the hunt will be successful today?” she asked softly, her eyes grazing over the forest. The pack needed to eat and as she gazed at Bagueer, she knew he desperately needed sustenance. She herself hadn’t eaten in almost a week and starvation was a real threat even if spring was coming, the wolves had a long way to go before they were healthy enough to survive in the cold of the next winter… or at all. It took time to regain strength and not everyone had that time but with the pack dwindling she hoped that they would all pull through.

Edon
Female - Hunter - 3 Years - Tags: Hekate, Harlequin

"I'd be lying if I said no. I'm quite fine to hunt, Beta. And even if I wasn't, I simply can't sit out while the pack starves." Edon responded just as softly, trying to ward off the beta's concern. It was indeed obvious that Edon hadn't eaten a full meal in over a month, but her hunger to help the pack was stronger than the hunger in her belly. Edon's paws made slight crunching sounds in the snow as she made her way over to the front, after giving a polite nod to the beta. Bright yellow eyes that belonged to the she-wolf Edon scanned the forest line, then the pack. Pride swelled in her chest at the sight of her pack starting to pull it back together. Harlequin somewhat reminded her or herself, with the rebellious attitude. The she-wolf was young, and full of attitude. A small smile tugged at Edon's expression, but she quickly hid it. Now wasn't the time, the pack needed to be fed.
Edon rolled her shoulders, awakening the muscles underneath her pelt. Most of her fat and muscles had been lost to the winter, bones sticking out now. A great yawn captured Edon, her jaws opening wide and showcasing her razor set. Her jaws closed with a small click of her teeth, her tongue coming out to lick her lips. While waiting, she decided to fix what was left of her black pelt, which was currently a brownish color, nibbling a small patch of fur on her chest.

garrick // brute // five years of age // tags: talia //:

garrick watched the face as she spoke, nodding along at her reply. the winter had been rough, worse then it had ever been before. in the five years of his life, garrick had never experienced anything quite like this. the wolves here could tolerate quite severe conditions of winter, but this was like no other. this winter was definitely the worst. garrick wondered why this was so, but there really was no cause or reason. the seasons came and go and conditions were mostly random. there was nothing else to it. as talia spoke again, asking garrick a question, the brute shifted slightly in his place, turning his head to meet her eyes. "i'm honestly not quite sure." the brute sighed, eyes shifting to the group that planned to go out hunting. "hunts have been unsuccessful so far, but I'm hoping that since it seems winter may be coming to an end, there will be more prey somewhere about the territory."

Aphelion | Guard | Location;; Main cave | Tags;; Orestes ♞

Aphelion hauls himself from the guards' den, roused by the sounds of the camp as the wolves begin to wake up. His pale eyes, like glinting chips of ice, peer from above sharp cheekbones and hollow cheeks to survey the cavern from the shadows at its edge. His black pelt seems to melt into the shade, hiding the new gaunt, angular shape starvation has forced upon him. Though his coat has grown ragged, and lost its glossy sheen, he's still grateful for the long fur that keeps the early-morning chill from seeping into his bones. For the most part. He still shivers a bit, and soon begins to stretch in order to work the warmth back into his atrophied muscles. The thicker fur in the cape that covers his shoulders and trails down his back has clumped together into ragged spikes like the feathers of a great raven, and bristles as he rolls his shoulders, which have stayed broad and strong, in spite of the way the bones beneath jut sharply against his skin.

As he stretches, Aphelion raises his squarish muzzle and flares his nostrils to scent the air. The first smell he seeks is one he almost dreads to find- death. All too many times the wolves had woken to find one of their fellows had succumbed to the cold or the hunger in the night. But he smells something else this time, something that makes his rounded ears perk and his skull tilt to the side. The smell of green, growing things, entices him from the shadows and closer to the center of the cavern. The words that tell of a hunt reach his ears, and in spite of his best efforts to suppress it, to keep his outlook realistic, a burning sort of excitement races through him, making his tail wag and his claws flex against the ground. This newfound, hope-fueled energy has no outlet in sight, so he's forced to restrain himself like a rambunctious pup trying to behave.

A new scent reaches his nose, the unusually floral smell of the nearby guard captain. Aphelion follows it, bringing with him his own musky smell reminiscent of wood smoke. As he pads with heavy steps to Orestes' side, he greets him with a, "Morning." The word is exhaled in a cloud of fog that rises from his muzzle and dissipates into the frigid air. He takes a sidelong glance at the higher-ranking wolf, making the small adjustments to his posture that portray the respect due to him, replacing the self-important bravado that Aphelion usually carries about himself. As his head turns back to eye the entrance to the camp, he comments, "I daresay this may even be a good one, for a change.

"Sure," She replied to the beta and looked at her when she turned to Edon. Aditya sighed, realising that she was probably one of not many wolves that were excited about the hunt. But the lead hunter missed spring so much and she couldn't wait to go outside. Besides, Adit was the type of wolf who always cheered others up, no matter how hard the situation was. "All hunters are asked to go outside and meet with others in front of the camp. We're going to hunt," Said Aditya, her voice was loud and clear, so everybody could hear her words. The lead hunter spoke with her muzzle pointed at the hunters' den to wake up any wolf that's asleep. Then, Aditya trotted out of the cave, the rays of lights hitting her eyes and she had to narrow them. The wolf blinked few times, her amber eyes getting used to the light. She glanced around. The surroundings looked much better now than in the winter. Everything seemed to be waking up, starting a new life. Was that also a new beginning for the pack? The snow was melting slowly and the fae tried not to tread on it. She had enough of snow and wanted it to disappear. Aditya shook dust off her greyish pelt. She licked her nose and took a deep breath through her nostrils, inhaling all the scents. Then, she joined other wolves and patiently waited for others to come, her ears shifting at the sounds around.

JYNX

Loner/ Open

Jynx laid in a hollowed out opening at the base of a tree her small form curled up for heat. She hated Winter with a burning passion, and maybe that would be different if she wasn't so small. Even now she was a pathetic husk of her former self having lost her plumpness, and sheen to her pelt. Her golden orbs were molten gold due to the horrors of starvation, and the cruelty set in them. She was at the point she would do anything for her next meal having already fought for scraps with other loners. A soft sigh escaped her muzzle as she looked out on the outside world knowing she needed to move, and at least try to hunt. She could die if she didn't, and for some reason that made the left side of her mouth curl up in amusement. Like hell she would..Jynx stood up wiggling out into the cold world her ears flicking back immediately. She then began to sway away from her temporary den on the prowl once more.

--------

Some time had passed, and so far no luck for food. Her energy was running low quickly, and soon she would be too tired to hunt anymore. A annoyed growl escaped her as her lips pulled back from her canines in annoyance. She was just walking away when the gust hit making her small form sway to the side. But life flickered back into her as she smelt it. The mouth watering tasty goodness of a hare, and close. Instincts took over her immediately, and her body lowered into a hunters crouch as she slid forward with all the light footness she could muster. The bush rustled ahead making her freeze, because if this turned into a chase she could lose it. She waited patiently until the rustling silenced then began to move her haunches under her for a nice pounce. She was ready, and when the rabbit popped out of the foliage she didn't hesitate just changed her calculations accordingly. Squeal. Jynx snatched up her catch, and though she wanted to scarf it down right there. The alluring scent of a fresh catch would be carried everywhere by the wind. Her small body bolted from that spot as she ran for her make shift den to eat her glorious meal.

O R E S T E S
➵ male lead guard
➵ no tags

orestes broke out of his thoughts with a solemn sigh. the male lifted his broad head to scan the sky, the large morning clouds were tinted slightly pink by the rising sun, making the horizon resemble an intricate painting. the lead guard seemed transfixed by the sight. for nearly the entire winter, thick clouds had seemed to blot out the sun, choking life from the surrounding forest and blanketing it in a thick, freezing layer of snow. now, however, an occasional ripple of snowflakes drifted into camp on the biting breeze, and scarce parts of the sky were clear. he could already scent the beginnings of small sprigs of grass beneath the snow. the winter had been so long that the smell of greenery and fresh fauna was almost foreign to the wolf, leading him to almost disbelieve his own senses. glancing back, he caught sight of kral, the massive peak that was the crown jewel of the pack's territory. several parts were illuminated by scarce rays of sunlight, making the bare mountain appear as if it was glowing.

perhaps there is hope. orestes pondered the thought. suddenly a voice seemed to awaken the lead guard from his daydreaming. deep amber eyes glancing over, he realized that aphelion, one of his most trusted guards, had joined him. "ah, good morning, aphelion." orestes greeted, immediately noticing the change in the male's posture, but his next statement caught his attention far more after their brief moment of silence. "i don't blame you for thinking such things. you can already scent the forest returning from under the snow. even the sky seems a bit clearer every day." the optimistic guard chuckled deeply. "it just might be the end for this hellish winter." orestes added. turning his attention to aphelion's posture, orestes laughed calmly, each breath sending a gentle plume of fog into the freezing air. "there is no need for the formalities, aphelion. you're just as much of a guard as i am." he reassured, his sharp, amber eyes tranquil and collected as he addressed the guard.

Having been up for several hours, stalking the prairies and undergrowth for herbs he had been in low stock on, Muanu managed to make his last trip just before morning patrol had hit. Padding up to camp, a mouth full of what appeared to be grass, multicolored flowers and some moss, the healer dipped his head to the gaurds before sitting his stock down. "Morning," he greeted them. The brute didn't often stop to chat, but having been out a little earlier in the day had him in a better mood than usual. Muanu's eyes looked passed them into the camp looking for his apprentice but he hadn't seen him just yet, though he did see his younger sister rising for the first time that morning. Lazy pup, he thought to himself.

"How is everyone this morning? Anywolf else notice the odd pick up we have had in the temperature?" he asked the pair, ears flicking slightly to all of the other sounds going on around them. If he were lucky, Muanu would get much done today and perhaps even be able to uncover more undergrowth from the slush.

Bright honey-glazed eyes snapped open as she heard a few yaps and howls regaurding the hunters. Akeila rose her head and looked aroudn the den to realize she may have been last one to rise. "Skin a hare! I'm LATE!" she growled at herself. Rising to her dainty paws, the fae braced herself on all fours and wriggld her pelt out, getting rid of any dirt she had attracted from her night's sleep. A light whine escaped her maw as she felt a pinch in her back right hip- it had been bothering her for a few days but she figured it would be gone by now- so she had hoped.

After a good stretch to get out any kinks in her muscles, Akeila padded out of the den and into the clearing, joining the other hunters casually. Ears dropping slightly as she felt her brother's gaze, she hoped he wouldn't come to investigate the injury she had been griping about, so quickly the fae let her coat fluff up as she joined two of the females discussing the weather and possibilities of a successful hunt. The young she wolf tilted her head slightly in confusion. If winter was coming to and end, hope was indeed in sight... she thought to herself, wanting all the more to get going. "Morning you two," she greeted the other fae's. Sitting down beside them, she let her fluffy tail curl around her paws as she waited for further instruction. Though she had a few good ideas about where to go, she decided being one of the youngest there, she should sit and wait.

Edon
Female - Hunter - 3 Years - Tags: Akeila

Edon smirked a little at the younger female, Akeila. The she-wolf seemed nervous, and Edon couldn't help but catch the anxious glances back at her older brother and the way Akeila attempted to hide her energy. "Are you going to tell your brother about it, Akeila?"Edon kept her voice soft and low, respecting that Akeila may not want her brother to ever know about it.
A shiver passed down Edon's spine as the cold seeped through her pelt. Edon was so thin it felt as though the cold just went right through her. She was planning on this year's spring to build her muscle and fat back up- possibly even have pups. Many she-wolves most likely had similar thoughts, and that was good. The pack needed to be rebuilt. After having groomed her pelt for a while and was finally satisfied by the finished product, she huffed and began kneading at the snow. The blanket of snow has been dissipating for days now, likely building up a stream downhill. Edon had a sudden longing for splashing through a river like she had once done, before winter came. The female was more than ready to explore and hunt in the forest that loomed just before her eyes.
