- A familiar voice greeted Maverick from his left. "Good morning to you, Hakate". The brute's rough, husky voice was nothing like the soothing sound of the Fae's. The alpha had always had great respect for his Beta as she knew how to handle his pack without using force, as he would have. As he glanced over at the she-wolf, Maverick noticed how her beautiful multicoloured coat had begun to cling to her skeleton. The highest ranks rarely went hungry, this winter was different. "Thank you, Bagueer needs the rest". The brute's rust coloured eyes turned to Bagueer, examining the old wolf. The Guard had been like a father to him since his own fathers passing. Now, however, he was dying. It didn't take a healer to see that. Bagueer s coat clung to nothing and had begun to thin. The brute probably hadn't eaten it days. "Count me in on that hunt, Hakate" Maverick spoke without looking away from Bagueer. The alpha knew he was not hunting for himself today, but for his pack. Aphrodites voice joined the group just then. "Of course Aphrodite, we need all the help we can get. Fetch Harlequin as well." Just as he spoke, a sharp gust of wind howled by the camp entrance. Blinded momentarily, Maverick rose to his paws, shackles raised. A snarl escaped his lips as he fought the sharp shill that shook him to his core. Quickly, the gust died down & visibility returned. With that, Maverick layed his eyes on something he hadn't seen in months. The wind had picked up the snow, sending it flying across the forest & leaving a small patch of yellow grass just outside of camp. "Spring... it's coming after all". The brute's voice was almost painful as he had been waiting for this for so long. The winter had taken many wolves from him... it was time to take back his territory.

- Harlequin stretched from the back of her den, each muscle aching with the bitter cold. The she-wolf was naturally small but starvation & malnutrition made her look ill. Her rusty coat had dulled into a pale cream colour & her once bright eyes were now a dull green. The Delta female made it to the entrance of her den before laying back on the cold ground. She was exhausted, starving, & had no energy to leave the safety of her nest. Harlequin lay her head across her paws & watched the other wolves.

- Young Nanook had braved the winter well. His body still carries some muscle & strength, his coat still full & thick. As a healer, the young brute was highly respected & was able to eat second in line, along with his alpha. He was fair, only ever taking what he needed. On this cold winter morning the young male lay on a flat rock just outside his den, cleaning his chocolate brown coat. As the healer ran his tongue over his paws in an attempt to rid them of dirt & mud, his piercing blue eyes wondered across camp. Would there be a hint today? No wolf looked strong enough to leave the camp, let alone hunt an elk.

- Bagueer's neck was stiff as he turned to acknowledge his Beta. Bones creaked, muscles screamed. The Guard was getting much too old for his job. He'd been due to retire this year, but the thought of being an elder turned the brute sour. "Thank you, Hakate". The grey wolf dipped his head low, fighting the pain & stiffness he felt. The thought of curing up into the guard's den was almost enough to brighten the old brutes pale brown eyes. Just as Bagueer pulled his body to his paws, a sharp gust of winter air howled by the cavern entrance. The wind carried the resting snow, creating a whirl of white. Nothing was visible for a few long moment. Just as fast as the gust began, it disappeared. Was that... grass?.
