little remains now of the four packs that had, for generations, inhabited the ivichi valley. the valley was split into northern,
southern, eastern and western territories, and while each pack had their own beliefs and rules, they had lived in harmony
for as long as anyone could remember. to help keep this peace between the packs, the alphas and betas would meet in
the center of the valley once a month, on the
night of the full moon, and discuss any problems that the packs may be having. this allowed a chance for the packs to
settle their conflicts without bloodshed.
however, in nare pack, the largest and most powerful pack in the valley, a new alpha had just risen to power. he was a
young and inexperienced leader, a male named thonnir. while leading the largest pack in the forest would be more than
enough to satisfy most, he began to abuse his power within the pack, using it to get whatever he wanted. when this
was not enough, he desired control over more of ivichi, and launched an attack on nare's neighboring pack- the ixen
pack. this group was the smallest in the valley, and the nare pack took over easily. the alphas of the ixen pack were
killed, and those who remained after the battle were forced to join nare pack or flee and live as loners.when word
of what had happened to the ixen pack spread to the remaining two packs in the forest, they decided it would be best
to form an alliance vowing to protect each other if nare tried to take over. it was only a month later that thonnir
commanded his wolves to attack the keisha pack, and when they did, the vaudamar pack came to their aid. a bloody
war between all four packs broke out, and when the fighting finally died down, so few survivors remained that neither
side had won. roughly four or five wolves from each of the packs that once were dozens strong remain. with almost no
surviving leaders, the packs fell apart. that was three months ago. all of the survivors of what is now known as the great
war have either fled the valley, live as loners, or with a fellow former packmate. life in the valley becomes more difficult
by the day as winter approaches, especially for those who have never survived the winter without a pack to rely on. with
no one to patrol or mark borders, wolves from outside ivichi have begun to wander into the valley in search of food, a pack,
or a place to live. what the wolves in the valley don't know is that the winter that is coming is going to be one of the harshest
they have ever seen.
