    ADELHEIDE
Legate Female | Arena | By the Caves | Tagged:
    Quinlan, Takaani, Corbin, Robin

Adelheide had gone much further out on the Plains than she had originally intended. The plan was to target a passing deer herd and pick away the weaker ones, but somehow along the way she and Kauri were separated and Heidi found herself in a part of the Plains she wasn't as familiar with. Of course, she knew the entire Arena territory at the back of her hand, but recently she had barely ventured out so far, especially with tensions rising high between the two packs. Quinlan wouldn't have anyone that great a distance from the camp.

Tracking the distinct scent of elk that at some point trailed back in the direction of the camp with a plump, dead hare in her jaws, Heidi kept her head low to the ground but her ears erect for any passing sounds. Without a second wolf to aid her in taking down a deer, she had no choice but to forgo the hunt previously and set off on her own game. She heard the soothing hum of the meandering river, the breathy rustle of leaves in the warm late-morning breeze, the coo of a quail flitting past too high for her to catch. The snowy-pelted wolf inhaled deeply, her muzzle pointed down at the rich, slightly moist earth. It was going to rain soon, she decided. There was that familiar rain-smell in the air that always heralded a small drizzle. Prey would be going into shade as well, all but the creatures like otters who preferred to frolic in the waters. That meant she and Kauri had to track the herd somewhere to the Swamp. A soft, slow huff escaped Heidi's maw at this. If, she ever found Kauri, that was. As of right now, the Legionnaire wasn't within earshot by any means.

Grass swaying, trees bowing, breeze whispering warm on her back, and... The clump of hooves? Heidi lifted her head so quickly her neck almost cracked. Then there they were! The entire, massive herd, moving as one towards the familiar shaded Swamp. A grim smile curling the corners of her maw, she quickened her pace, bringing herself lower to blend in with her surroundings. A single stray wind could give away her position. She had to be quick, and stay absolutely silent. Like a ghost. The gears in Heidi's sharp mind turned furiously. If she could return to camp undetected by the herd, she could rally more wolves for the hunt while they were still in this region. No matter how glorious a huntress she was, one wolf couldn't kill a whole deer on her own. She needed backup... Fast.

Fortunately, by the time Heidi slipped through the tall grasses and flew like the wind past the slender trees of the Swamp, she spotted Quinlan (Also the Emperor), Robin, Takaani and Corbin in the distance by the Caves. Surprise stirred within her. What were they doing here in the most dangerous area of their camp? Flattening her ears, the snowy wraith started forward tentatively in their direction. She swivelled her head round once to check the air, and the deer scent was still distinct, albeit a little faded in the midst of so many woody and critter smells.

She wasted no time in getting straight to the point. Dropping the hare at her feet, she looked right up into her dearest friend Quinlan's eyes, and spoke. "A deer herd is nearby, and Kauri's gone. I'm sorry I lost her. We need your help."

K O D E A S
male - subordinate of Folium pack - no mate/crush - the road - with Reika - eager, investigative, cautious

Kodeas looked towards the path that they would take should they decide to go forward, and paused before his response. It was his suggestion, and should anything happen, he would take the responsibility; considering this, he flicked his ears towards the unknown, searching for any sign of danger. The day had been quiet so far, and it continued to be so; he could find nothing by listening or raising his nose to the wind. Going back to camp would be the safe option, and typically the one he would choose; but he knew that nothing would await them there besides their report, and going further would give them an even better idea of what was in the surrounding area, especially since they didn't often push the boundaries. This meant for intel for the pack, which could lead to a better chance should they find anything potentially harmful, such as evidence of other predators, another pack or a band of rouges, and it could also prove beneficial should they find good hunting grounds to rotate onto. All of these reasons were valid to him, and, it meant he wouldn't be bored out of his mind for the rest of the day sitting around by his den.
With his mind made up, he gave another slightly more excited glance to Reika, and began to walk towards the overgrown path.
" Let's do it. "

Kit had been awake for a while, having left camp at the break of day to come and hunt near the river. While their stocks weren't necessarily lacking, keeping food available was key, and she was always glad to step up to accomplish that task. Her strengths had always lied with hunting, stealth, and anything to do with providing for the pack.
Even though she had a streak of dedication in her and had promised herself she wouldn't return without at least a fish or rabbit, she didn't see the purpose in not having any fun in her venture. She'd raced through the forest nearly at full tilt just for the thrill of it, and had cooled down apron reaching the river by going for a swim. The water was frigid, and had felt wonderful on muscles that were beginning to protest. Now as she lay on the gravelly banks, watching the water flow by, She began to truly think over her self-given task.
She supposed it was just the final decision that had to be made; land or water, which one did she want to be her hunting theatre. Fish were fun to catch, and always provided challenge, but at this time of day, they would see her easily and be much quicker than she. The small land animals also provided fun, should she allow them to see her first and run a little, but with the lack of a strong breeze or more, she and the prey would be near equal in ability to smell each other and therefore she would have no downwind advantage. She pondered this as she watched the water move, breathing a sigh.

Aiyana Image

The she-wolf settled haphazardly in the shade, an air of silence around her. The camp was quiet as most of her pack mates were out and about on their own personal missions although some chose to stay much like herself. Aiyana enjoyed the peace and tranquility however, as the season of spring always brought her good vibes. Her ears swiveled into attention of the interaction between Aaron and Elanna as it became an interruption to her "me time". She may have been just out of hearing range but it wasn't hard for Aiyana to pick up a few key words which led her to judge the conversation as not important. Her gaze never faltered however, as her misty green eyes continued to observe. She watched as Aaron dismissed himself from the healer and watched as the she-wolf disappeared into the den. A slight curiosity peaked in Aiyana's mind. She'd always wondered what the rank of healer was truly like although Aiyana wasn't one for engaging others. So, she wouldn't dare have the bravery to ask the healer whom seemed nice enough that she'd probably answer the question with only kind words but she assumed most would agree the rank wasn't for herself due to her not-so caring nature it seemed. Aiyana then lazily averted her gaze, hoping no wolf had noticed her staring and tried to entertain herself with her own thoughts to no avail.

[6] ➸ she wears loneliness just like a crown

xxxxxxxElanna's jaw opened releasing the herbs onto the floor. Her nose shook slightly as a sigh escaped her maw. Now to get into the work. Yarrow, Burnet, Cohosh, Broom, the names ran off the tongue as she silently muttered notes to herself aloud. "Catchweed supplies are low, I think I saw some by the plains- whether they still hold their burrs is another matter." The light she-wolf moved her nose over the herbs taking in deep breathes of the scents- stale for the most part. Resting her head above a stack of dried and shrivelled cohosh. Taking in a deep breath Elanna blew the leaves into the air, where she collected them with several successive nips. Inside her mouth the leaves crunched and became crumpled. The taste of them became prominent as the saliva in her mouth caused the herbs to become soggy. Opening her maw she set the wet herbs to the side and went back to picking out more dead leaves and berries. Normally she wouldn't let things get this bad in her supplies, dry herbs less effective then fresh ones. With the rain, however, dry herbs were better than nothing. The sight of shrivelled and decaying Bearberries was one of the signs to her that dry herbs were beginning to become worse than nothing.

xxxxxxxAfter some time Elanna had cleaned out her herb storage, she had thyme, honeysuckle twigs, borage leaves, barely enough aniseed to count for anything and lot's of bacopa. She supposed hours like this knowing a few water grown plants that could be used for in place of other more common forest herbs was something she could thank her mentor for. She let out a sigh, at this rate she would be asking the rival medics for herbs instead of gifting them- unless they didn't know about bacopa? Not that it had any grand purpose other than improve the life of the elderly and granting enhanced focus. She would have to work up the courage to ask Corbin if he knew or not- not something she was too keen on. To the side of the herb storage was a collection of dead and useless herbs. Going to pick them up Elanna noticed with some disdain that unless she wanted to make two trips, she would require some help. Poking her head out of the den she scanned the camp for wolves lacking jobs; Aiyanna became apparent.

xxxxxxx"Excuse me?" Elanna mused aloud, her voice soft as she approached the reputably lazy canine. Her voice was somewhat lost in the ether and she willed for her nature to bend under her paw and be shaped by her desires not her fears. "I require some assistance with a task," she managed to follow up quickly enough, projecting her voice forward to sound clearer than the mumble it might otherwise have been.

Aiyana's ears stood erect in attention as she whipped her head around to see the female from earlier approaching her. The short stature she-wolf quickly straightened her posture although she still remained sprawled out in the shade.
With a raised eyebrow and lopsided frown, Aiyana listened to Elanna's business with her. A quiet snort escapes the female's snout as she sits up. Green eyes observe the healer in front of her, looking the she-wolf up a down with a scowl. With a positive judgement of character, Aiyana's harsh expression softens and with a flick of the tail she speaks.
"I presume you have no one else to assist you, yes? Well, in that case. Only since I have nothing better to do myself..." The she-wolf slightly lowers her ears as she raises a paw to her maw and begins to groom herself. Her way of speech seemed very proper and well rehearsed, almost as if it was all part of an act. (*wink wink*) Although, the female seemed completely uninterested in what the healer had to say, she was more than tolerable as to listen to her task. Aiyana continued with a slight glace upwards towards Elanna. "Proceed."

[7] ➸ she wears loneliness just like a crown

There was a dry look Ellana's face as she look at Aiyanna and blinked a couple times. Sometimes she would forget just how, Aiyanna, she was. Ela was already beyond letting such actions bother her and to make a point she cut the other wolf off before her last words. "I've just finished tidying my den," her words were confident, even if it just was a spiteful energy that motivated her. "We need to get these dead herbs out of camp and dispose of them properly," she explains, her voice falling quieter. "My bundle is still in my den, this is the herbs you need to take out." Ela's ears flicked as she looked towards her den and then back towards Aiyanna. "Pick it up, I'll be back in a moment!" Her voice was lower but very clear cut as she turned and walked into the den, letting out a long sigh as she slipped into the den. She shook her head slightly, picking up the bundle before heading back outside. Wolves were tiring to deal with but it was her job. Stepping up to Aiyanna her ears flicked signalling for the wolf to follow her as she began walking out of camp.
