The dark pelted female had begun her day earlier than most of her pack, as she had set out before dawn to do as much restocking of the medic supplies as possible. Rough pawpads that had tread many a mile had crossed over well worn trails and paths to nearly every herb spot that she had had success in before, and most of them had also taken a bad hit from the storms and wouldn't be of any use for several more days. Takaani stopped for a moment, her mission taking her to the edge of the treeline to the plains. Knowing the territory as she did, not many of their stocked herbs grew in this part of their domain except for near the river occasionally. Deep amber eyes looked out for a moment, briefly skimming the area to be sure of no dangers nearby before settling into thought. Since the usual spots weren't able to be used to resupply, the caves would be the best choice to try out next. Though she was a bit weary of the unstable ground inside, going to the caves didn't bother her all to much. She always used caution, old rogue instincts coming into play and saving her skin quite a few times.

Deciding on her next course of action, Takaani turned back towards the treeline and made her way back through the territory and towards the caves. Pondering for a moment, she began wondering if she should've asked Corbin to go with her on her morning journey. Though as she continued to ponder it, she figured that her fellow medic would have his own setting out to do, as they both had a bit of different attitudes and styles towards medic duties. Still, perhaps she would see if he'd like to accompany her back to the caves if she found anything promising. Though she knew the male wasn't particularly fond of the area, going together might make a difference.

She was pulled out of her thought process as she approached the caves by the sounds of voices, the noise catching her a bit off guard since she hadn't been expecting anyone out around her just yet. Though with a flick of her ears and a slight sniff of the air she relaxed, as there were three voices and scents, all that she recognized as her packmates. She walked out of the treeling towards them, a bit surprised to see the alpha, one of the legionnaires and of course her fellow medic. She approached the trio casually, nodding in greeting to each with a bit more of a polite nod towards Quinlan. "Ah, suppose the party started without me hn?" she said in a half-joking manner. Aside from Corbin, whom she worked closely with, she didn't really know any of the others all that well. A bit of humor was her usual fall back on situations with new acquaintances, so she figured it wouldn't be too bad of an idea to use here.

Quinlan's sympathetic feelings deepened, but outwardly he showed no difference in his body language. "It's all right. I was going to suggest I come with you anyway; no wolf should go in there alone. If you think we need the herbs, then I'll trust your judgement about the matter." Corbin's distress was still palpable, but Quinn hoped that by confirming they'd go in together, some of the medic's fears would be allayed. Admittedly he was scared himself, but in his mind he knew what he had to do, and he was going to do it regardless of the racing of his heart.

Quinn's ears suddenly pricked upright at a series of sounds. Moments later he recognised the scent of Robin, and a quick look around allowed him to pinpoint her position - the she-wolf was approaching them from the direction of the Plains. He nodded at her greeting, and felt a sense of appreciation and pride that she had sought him out to ask him for further duties. "Well, I sent Kauri and Adelheide out to hunt earlier but I haven't heard back from them yet. Can you see if you can find them? You can hunt along the way and if they're still hunting, you can join them and help out. We're running very low on food at the moment." As an afterthought, he added, "If you don't mind, of course."

His thought process was interrupted by the arrival of yet another wolf - this time it was Takaani. He returned her polite nod with one of his own, and even allowed a small smile at her joke. "It would appear so," he responded. "I suspect you came to get herbs from the Caves too? You and Corbin are of one mind it seems." He considered for a moment whether he should direct Taka to go with Corbin instead of him, since she'd be better able to identify herbs and they'd probably collect twice as much, but truthfully he wasn't keen to put both his medics at risk. "I'd suggest both of you go together, but I don't want to risk losing the two of you if something goes wrong. Would one of you like to accompany me?" he asked, looking at Taka. She seemed much more at ease with the idea of entering the Caves than Corbin, at any rate.

A stern look came over Aaron's face. Beyond the road? "Elanna," he warned in a low voice. It was the sort of voice parents used on their pups when they did something wrong. He stared at her for a few moments, then shook his head resignedly. "It's done now. But I don't want you ever crossing the road again. We've lost pack members in the past, you know that as well as I do. I know how important herbs are, but they're useless without you to administer them. We'd be in serious trouble if you got hurt," he finished. He didn't like lecturing his packmates but he was very serious about the road and its dangers. Especially when it came to their healer. He let the words sink in for a moment before adding, "I'm glad you're back safe and unharmed."

Truthfully he'd expected better than that from Elanna. But she was dedicated to her healing, and he supposed this was a result of that. Perhaps there was such a thing as being too dedicated. Still, he respected Elanna for her hard work and he knew that she just wanted the best for the pack, much as he did. He wasn't about to punish her for trying to make the best decisions for them. Next time, however... he would have to introduce consequences if she crossed the road again without his leave. It was just too dangerous, and especially for a valuable pack member like her.

xxxxxxxElanna dipped her head low, "I understand" she spoke. If the wolf scolding her had been anyone other wolf she would have nipped them on the nose. Aaron was their alpha, however and she held a Aaron to a special regard. She took his words to heart, maybe she had gone too far this time. A sigh echoed in her mind, in the moment it had seemed like a good idea. She remained humble to the criticism of her alpha. After a long silence signalled that his words of guidance were complete she raised her head slowly, eyes roaming the camp. "How were patrols?" She asked, her voice soft, asking both about patrols and permission to change the subject. She was interested in the state of their borders, things had been tense between the two packs and if fighting broke out it would be Ela cleaning up the mess left. Her eyes fell upon the herbs, she wouldn't have enough if the fighting turned out to be as bad as her gut felt. She wondered if when things finally fell apart, if the healers would be able to come together and salvage the lives of their pack-mates. There was always the chance that with the change even those unaffiliated by the fighting would be split.

The female continued to stand in a stationary position amongst the three wolves as she carefully listened to quinlan and nodded, with a smile smudged across her jawline "They have probably have ventured a little further across the fields, which would explain to why you havent heard from them yet, but I'll go have a look around, see if i can catch a scent." she answered him.

She then snapped her head across her shoulders, hearing movement from behind. He face growing a relieved expression to see that it was the other medic even if she hadnt properly met her yet. A brief chuckle echoing from her lungs hearing the joke takaani had mentioned upon arrival. She dipped her head in both a greeting and a farewell as she decided it be best to begin her search for kauri and adelhiede "Well, I best be off if im going to find them before midday." she said, hauling her weight as she ventured back into the depths of the forest.

Aaron allowed her to change the subject, believing by her body language that she had genuinely listened to him and taken his words to heart, for which he was grateful. It seemed things had been smoothly dealt with, so he allowed himself to relax and let the matter go. He frowned slightly at her question. "Well, I sent Reika and Kodeas out earlier but they haven't got back yet. I'm sure we'll see them soon, though. If not, I'll send one of the others out to find them. I'm pretty sure they were checking by the Road; you didn't see them while you were there?" he asked, taking great care to keep any tone of accusation or annoyance out of his speech. He didn't want to rekindle an issue he'd just dealt with, and not with Elanna - he wanted to get along with her as best he could, and not just because she was one of the higher ranking wolves.

He wasn't worried about his two subordinates yet, even though the Road always made him nervous. They'd patrolled there plenty of times and they were both sensible. They had only been out for a few hours, so they'd probably get back soon. If they didn't, that's when he'd start worrying. He returned his attention to Elanna, awaiting her answer. Even if she hadn't seen them, she would have seen part of the border for herself, so perhaps she could give a kind of border report of her own.

Corbin felt some of the weight fall off of his shoulders as his alpha agreed to enter the cave with him. He breathed out a sigh of relief. Though having someone else with him wouldn't stop the dangers of the cave, it would mean that if rocks did fall someone was there to help...
Mixed up in his thoughts Corbin hadn't even heard the approach of Robin. He jumped slightly, his nerves back on end, only to calm himself down as he realised who it was. He nodded his head in a return greeting, smiling sheepishly. "Well, yes it seems I have," He responded, following her gaze back to the cave mouth, "though I'm worried it may become more exciting." He stopped and listened to Quinlan suggesting a job for Robin, and had to admire his kindness in the matter. He didn't order, he asked.

He turned to continue the topic of conversation, only to catch the familiar scent of his fellow medic. He searched the area until he pinpointed her, and as he watched her approach his nerves calmed further. "Takaani." he greeted, a weird sense of safety and familiarity overcoming him despite the looming task of the caves. He hadn't wanted to bother Takaani earlier, when he had been counting the stores. It seemed they had both come to the same conclusion.
Corbin looked hopefully at Quinlan as he made his decision. It made sense, if both Takaani and himself were to be lost to the caves the pack would be put in danger. But he wasn't sure if he was happy thinking about his fellow medic in the caves while he strolled about, safe. "It makes sense that only one of us goes," he told Takaani simply, "I...er... don't mind if you want that someone to be me." he offered, waiting for his companions response.

Patrolling further was an interesting idea, and Reika paused to consider it. Going to a different area would certainly be more exciting than going back to camp and lazing about. Perhaps they would find something important, that they may have otherwise missed. "I didn't consider going further, but it can't hurt. I'm sure Aaron won't mind waiting awhile longer for the report," she considered cooly, turning back to scan the path they usually didn't patrol, "That is, if you don't have something better you need to be doing? It could potentially be hazardous, I don't go that way often."

Reika thought through all the things that could happen because of this simple choice. Maybe there was a den of rogues still uncovered waiting to be found, or more dangerous things, like other predators. She found herself getting excited about going further, and her tail raised slightly with anticipation. It was probably dangerous, and if something bad happened they would have to explain to Aaron that they went where they probably shouldn't have, but it was worth it for a the quenching of curiosity.

She turned back to Kodeas and awaited his response.

xxxxxxxThe she-wolf was quiet for a moment thinking over her morning, "I didn't see them at the road, after I retrieved the herbs I took them to Bloomfield to dry them out, on the way there I saw Reika and Kodeas heading out on patrol." Elanna was quiet, face concentrating, as she thought over her time at the road more intuitively. The edges of the road had gaps underneath them, spaces where the water had eroded the soil away. The scents were damp but all from the forest, the smell of petrichor and wet bark heavy in the air. Everything scented reeked of the rain but the scent of rabbits that had dashed across the road after the rain finished permeated the air clearly. Cars hadn't begun crossing the through the territory yet so the area smelt clean, until she had approached to cross back into their territory. At that point the scent of the vehicles was beginning to become clear, two maybe three had crossed while she was gone. "I don't think there was much trouble to find along the border, seemed normal- wet but normal." She had gone on border patrols a couple times before, so she knew what she was looking for as far as border incursions went, although if something had crossed into their territory before the rain stopped, Elanna wouldn't have had the nose to notice it- well unless they were coated in herbs. The thought amused her slightly, imagine a tricky fox rolling around in mint and garlic to hide his scent, woe be his day if Elanna was on the patrol. She would be able to sniff out that fox for miles.

As she listened to Quinlan speak, Takaani sat down for a moment, giving her paws a brief rest from the journey.
She nodded in response to his question, shooting a small smile towards Corbin as she did so at the alpha's comment. "So it would seem" she added with a soft chuckle.

Thinking for a moment, she agreed with his suggestion. Though it wasn't very likely that something would happen to both of the medics, one could never be too careful with the circumstances and take unnecessary risks. She nodded, turning to Corbin as she heard him speak. She gave him a confident grin, "It's up to you Corbin. If you want to you can" she said with a soft nod. "But I know how the caves make you nervous, so if you don't want to go this time, I'll gladly do it" she added, giving her fellow medic the chance to choose. She knew well that others usually responded better to uncomfortable situations if they chose them on their own, so it seemed like a good idea to give her nervous companion the option. If she didn't go in, she could roam about the outside and see if she could find anything promising.

Quinn nodded approvingly as Takaani spoke. He was pleased she had offered to go instead of Corbin. He was also pleasantly surprised that Corbin had still made it clear he would be willing to enter the caves despite his obvious fear of them. He admired the healer for that. It was up to them to decide, so he kept quiet, simply observing the conversation.

Aaron nodded as she spoke. "Okay, thankyou. Well it shouldn't be too long till they get back if there was nothing to find," he said simply. He suddenly became aware once again of the herbs at Elanna's paws. "I've held you up long enough," he said with an apologetic smile, "You'll want to get those into your den so they don't get damp or damaged, right?" he asked, not really expecting an answer.

"As for me, I think I'll head out for a bit and do a spot of hunting," he said thoughtfully. He'd feel better about having a little more food in their stocks than they currently did; it was verging on being too low. He'd have to organise a hunting party soon to take down some bigger prey. It would have to wait until he had a few more of his packmates back at camp - he could go out and track some of them by their scents, but it would just be a waste of energy. Easier to wait until they're all in one place.

xxxxxxxElanna's face lit up with surprise as her eyes fell down to her herbs, her mouth opened in an 'oh' before leaning down and scooping them up. She dipped her head in gratitude for the reminder, cheeks flush a pale crimson under her dense fur. Aarron mentioned going out for a spot of hunting and Elanna nodded her head in agreement, it had been a while since she had eaten and the idea of some fresh prey was definitely appealing. Through the herbs in her mouth she did her best not to let drool coat the herbs, thoughts of rabbits and other small prey evoking the taste buds. Tail waving slightly she dipped her head, moving towards the mostly empty den she shared with herself and other healers. In times of sickness and plague the den would fill up fast, during battles even more so but during a tense peace. There was not much to do outside of gather herbs and lend a paw where she could.

xxxxxxxThere was an invisible barrier between the outside and the den, the way the den walls formed, the earth echoed and the plants creaked a cold was always present in the den. Not one which would make you shiver and shake but instead one which reminded you of a home long forgotten. The lack of bodies during the night allowed cold air to accumulate and the way the den dipped slightly into the earth made sure the cold would stay long into the day. It was a brisk sensation, stepping into the den. Your spirit felt enchanted and awake, capable of anything- saving anyone. Elanna moved through the den with renewed vigour to the far back where behind the cover of old and broken bracken a storage of herbs laid untouched but the elements and unmoved by the breeze...
