The fog draws you from a stupor - was it sleep? Was it something worse? You can't be sure. Your body seems tired, your legs, they're so weak - but an undeniable force, this pull, it won't let you go. You struggle, you try to recall how you got here; you have no memory of this place. Matter of fact, you really don't have any memory at all. Odd. You decide to get up, to weeble on your lanky little limbs. You'll never know what lies beyond the patch of dense fog - which you now see covers a stretch of useless dirt if you don't. Right? ... Right? Yeah! Right. Bravely, you trot onward, unknowning. Unaware. Un-anything. You walk, you pause for a minute, you mark your scent on a nearby tree - and then you see it. You feel it.
Your legs begin to quiver - you don't know why, but for some reason you're reminded just how small you are here. You don't know what is going to part through the loomy shadows, but whatever it is, you are sure it can't be good. Cowering, you sink to your belly, coating your belly-fur with terrible muck. Once upon a time you might have been disgusted with yourself - or maybe not, maybe you liked mud, you can't remember - but something so trivial doesn't really matter. Through those tall, ominous limbs made of branch and vine, a black shadow seeps like the very ink the night was birthed from. It takes the form of a wolf - but this is like no wolf you've ever seen. It stares right through you. When it opens its jaw to speak, you see no teeth, only darkness.
"You must have done something really terrible to wind up here," it tells you - the voice is indistinguishable. You can't tell if it's male, female, who knows? "Heh..." It's cackle makes you shake even harder. The shadow-like canine ripples with amusement. "It doesn't matter now, anyway. Here's the deal, pup." The shadow disappears - but you can hear it. You can feel it... In your head.
There are two packs here - the Sagebrush and the Pinewood - they each function differently. They have their faults, they have their reasons. They are at war. Neither desire mercy - only the victory they may never receive. It is endless, timeless, perhaps - this battle between them. One could be evil, the other good - or they might both be damned. You've been stripped. You've been plopped into hell - or maybe this is heaven! But now you have a choice; you have a job.
When there's hardly anything left inside of you...
YOU MUST DECIDE....
