- Grayclaw almost chuckled at his apprentice's apt description of himself. A badger that got stuck in a log indeed. Although it had been around a month since his accident and he seemed to be healing well, the medicine cat still insisted on keeping the supports. Although the deputy trusted the medicine cat's expertise, he couldn't help but share Swiftpaw's annoyance of not being able to train his apprentice. Besides organizing patrols and going out on a few himself, Grayclaw found that he actually had very little to do now that his apprentice was out of commission. Since he was given his first apprentice back in his early days of being a warrior, he had never been without one for over a moon.
As if Swiftpaw had sensed what he was thinking about, or perhaps it was just his nature, but the younger tom asked if Grayclaw would train him today. Suppressing a sigh, the deputy shook his head regretfully. "If I took you out to train, Birdtail would have my tail," he replied, only over-exaggerating the slightest bit. He would certainly get an earful if he did something like that without Swiftpaw having been checked out first. Besides the leader, the medicine cat was the only other one of his Clanmates that Grayclaw wouldn't dare order around. Knowing how bored Swiftpaw must be and how he would likely get into some trouble if left on his own anyway, the tabby tom came up with a compromise that suited them both, and would probably only get him in trouble a little bit.
"No training, but we can go for a short border patrol, just to renew the scent markers on the northern border. I haven't sent a patrol that way in a couple of days," he meowed, hoping that would raise the tom's spirits at least a bit. It was a lot better than sitting around camp, watching everyone else go out to train or on patrol. "You can take your support off of course," he added, "since we won't be doing anything too strenuous I'm sure it will be fine." He trusted his apprentice would tell him if his injuries started to bother him enough that Grayclaw didn't even say anything to Swiftpaw about it. His apprentice was eager, not stupid. He wouldn't do anything to risk injuring himself again on purpose.

- Firepaw was elated at her mentor's fiery reaction to her declaration of wanting to beat Swiftpaw and become the best warrior. "Thanks Cedarshade! With you as my mentor, Swiftpaw won't stand a chance!" she replied, meaning every word of it. She looked up to her mentor more than any other cat in the Clan. Although part of that was due to her parents' death when she was younger and having Cedarshade to partially fill that role by being there for her more than any other cat in the Clan, she also genuinely considered the tortoiseshell she-cat to be a prime example of a true BrambleClan warrior. Although she wasn't the strongest warrior and preferred to avoid fighting, she was an excellent hunter and was always there for her Clanmates, something that Firepaw thought was as critical to being a good warrior as how many cats you could defeat in battle. Something that she knew she definitely had Swiftpaw beat in.
She shook those thoughts away for now though, as Cedarshade began to explain a move she hadn't heard of before called a tail-yank. Firepaw pictured the attack while her mentor described it, and although she had a fairly good idea of how it was supposed to go, she was still a bit nervous when Cedarshade crouched in front of her, ready to have her practice. "Got it!" she replied, her voice a mix of determination and nervousness. It had been awhile since Cedarshade had taught her a battle move, and she was feeling a bit like it was her first day of training again. But she was nearly a warrior now, and the ginger apprentice steeled herself, ready to attempt this tail-yank for the first time.
Suddenly, Cedarshade dashed to her right, clearly trying to move in behind the apprentice. Remembering what she had said, Firepaw let Cedarshade continue for another pawstep or two before spinning to her right, timing it so that her mentor's tail was right near her jaws. Clamping her mouth shut on the other she-cat's tail, Firepaw dug her paws into the ground and pulled backwards, trying to pull just enough to unbalance Cedarshade but not so hard that it hurt more than necessary. It was just practice after all. Thinking back on the instructions quickly, Firepaw continued, letting go of her tail and aiming a paw-strike at Cedarshade's head, claws sheathed. In a real fight, she would've probably gone in for a claw-rake instead. The apprenticce followed the blow up immediately by ramming her body against Cedarshade's left side, trying to knock the larger cat all the way down. In all the chaos of limbs though, she had a bit of trouble figuring out where exactly to put her own paws in order to pin her mentor down. After a fumbling for a moment, Firepaw finally managed though, and touched her nose to Cedarshade's throat knowing that it would be her jaws there instead if it were a real fight. She held her position there, chest heaving both from her excitement and the physical exertion.

- Silverwing suppressed a mrrow of laughter at her apprentice's enthusiasm. Although she hadn't really thought of Icepaw or Morningpaw as the social type, but she was glad that the three apprentices seemed to be getting along quite well despite that. She also found it quite amusing that Icepaw's mentor was Sparrowtail, especially after having talked with the reserved she-cat just moments before. They were as perfect of a mentor-apprentice pair as she and Cinderpaw were. She was certain that Whitestar had paired them up with their personalities in mind, but it was almost uncanny how well he'd done so.
These were the things she thought about while Icepaw went off to check with Sparrowtail, though the apprentice was soon headed back over. His mentor followed, the other warrior flicking the tip of her tail in a silent greeting as she told the apprentices to eat now if they were hungry. "I think they could do with some tree hunting lessons today," Silverwing said in response to Sparrowtail's question. She was fine with anything really, except fishing. Silverwing absolutely hated anything to do with water. Rain was fine, but swimming and even fishing were out of the question with her. In fact, though it would take no small amount of prying it out of her, Silverwing didn't actually even know how to fish. She'd been too terrified to try, and though her mentor tried a great many times to get her to at least attempt to fish, in the end he realized that it was a useless cause. She'd tried to make up for this by being a more efficient hunter on land, and was even pretty good at tree hunting. Besides her mentor, who was killed in the Great War, only Whitestar, and maybe Grayclaw know of her secret.
Blinking the thoughts of fishing and her past away, Silverwing looked between the three apprentices, none of which had opted to eat. Perhaps they already had, or perhaps none of them wanted to be the one to delay the hunting party's departure. Sparrowtail was Icepaw's mentor, and since Morningpaw's mentor was on the dawn patrol, it seemed as though they were ready to head out. "Right, so is everyone all set to go then?" she asked, doing one last check before they left. It was very rare that she went out with more than just Cinderpaw for training, so she was somewhat overcautious.
