    Grayclaw almost chuckled at his apprentice's apt description of himself. A badger that got stuck in a log indeed. Although it had been around a month since his accident and he seemed to be healing well, the medicine cat still insisted on keeping the supports. Although the deputy trusted the medicine cat's expertise, he couldn't help but share Swiftpaw's annoyance of not being able to train his apprentice. Besides organizing patrols and going out on a few himself, Grayclaw found that he actually had very little to do now that his apprentice was out of commission. Since he was given his first apprentice back in his early days of being a warrior, he had never been without one for over a moon.

    As if Swiftpaw had sensed what he was thinking about, or perhaps it was just his nature, but the younger tom asked if Grayclaw would train him today. Suppressing a sigh, the deputy shook his head regretfully. "If I took you out to train, Birdtail would have my tail," he replied, only over-exaggerating the slightest bit. He would certainly get an earful if he did something like that without Swiftpaw having been checked out first. Besides the leader, the medicine cat was the only other one of his Clanmates that Grayclaw wouldn't dare order around. Knowing how bored Swiftpaw must be and how he would likely get into some trouble if left on his own anyway, the tabby tom came up with a compromise that suited them both, and would probably only get him in trouble a little bit.

    "No training, but we can go for a short border patrol, just to renew the scent markers on the northern border. I haven't sent a patrol that way in a couple of days," he meowed, hoping that would raise the tom's spirits at least a bit. It was a lot better than sitting around camp, watching everyone else go out to train or on patrol. "You can take your support off of course," he added, "since we won't be doing anything too strenuous I'm sure it will be fine." He trusted his apprentice would tell him if his injuries started to bother him enough that Grayclaw didn't even say anything to Swiftpaw about it. His apprentice was eager, not stupid. He wouldn't do anything to risk injuring himself again on purpose.

    Firepaw was elated at her mentor's fiery reaction to her declaration of wanting to beat Swiftpaw and become the best warrior. "Thanks Cedarshade! With you as my mentor, Swiftpaw won't stand a chance!" she replied, meaning every word of it. She looked up to her mentor more than any other cat in the Clan. Although part of that was due to her parents' death when she was younger and having Cedarshade to partially fill that role by being there for her more than any other cat in the Clan, she also genuinely considered the tortoiseshell she-cat to be a prime example of a true BrambleClan warrior. Although she wasn't the strongest warrior and preferred to avoid fighting, she was an excellent hunter and was always there for her Clanmates, something that Firepaw thought was as critical to being a good warrior as how many cats you could defeat in battle. Something that she knew she definitely had Swiftpaw beat in.

    She shook those thoughts away for now though, as Cedarshade began to explain a move she hadn't heard of before called a tail-yank. Firepaw pictured the attack while her mentor described it, and although she had a fairly good idea of how it was supposed to go, she was still a bit nervous when Cedarshade crouched in front of her, ready to have her practice. "Got it!" she replied, her voice a mix of determination and nervousness. It had been awhile since Cedarshade had taught her a battle move, and she was feeling a bit like it was her first day of training again. But she was nearly a warrior now, and the ginger apprentice steeled herself, ready to attempt this tail-yank for the first time.

    Suddenly, Cedarshade dashed to her right, clearly trying to move in behind the apprentice. Remembering what she had said, Firepaw let Cedarshade continue for another pawstep or two before spinning to her right, timing it so that her mentor's tail was right near her jaws. Clamping her mouth shut on the other she-cat's tail, Firepaw dug her paws into the ground and pulled backwards, trying to pull just enough to unbalance Cedarshade but not so hard that it hurt more than necessary. It was just practice after all. Thinking back on the instructions quickly, Firepaw continued, letting go of her tail and aiming a paw-strike at Cedarshade's head, claws sheathed. In a real fight, she would've probably gone in for a claw-rake instead. The apprenticce followed the blow up immediately by ramming her body against Cedarshade's left side, trying to knock the larger cat all the way down. In all the chaos of limbs though, she had a bit of trouble figuring out where exactly to put her own paws in order to pin her mentor down. After a fumbling for a moment, Firepaw finally managed though, and touched her nose to Cedarshade's throat knowing that it would be her jaws there instead if it were a real fight. She held her position there, chest heaving both from her excitement and the physical exertion.

|sʜᴇ-ᴄᴀᴛ|₃₀ ᴍᴏᴏɴs|ᴡᴀʀʀɪᴏʀ|ᴀᴘᴘʀᴇɴᴛɪᴄᴇ: None/Open|ᴄʀᴜsʜ: None/Open|ᴛᴀɢɢᴇᴅ: Sparrowtail, Cinderpaw, Icepaw, and Morningpaw|

    Silverwing suppressed a mrrow of laughter at her apprentice's enthusiasm. Although she hadn't really thought of Icepaw or Morningpaw as the social type, but she was glad that the three apprentices seemed to be getting along quite well despite that. She also found it quite amusing that Icepaw's mentor was Sparrowtail, especially after having talked with the reserved she-cat just moments before. They were as perfect of a mentor-apprentice pair as she and Cinderpaw were. She was certain that Whitestar had paired them up with their personalities in mind, but it was almost uncanny how well he'd done so.

    These were the things she thought about while Icepaw went off to check with Sparrowtail, though the apprentice was soon headed back over. His mentor followed, the other warrior flicking the tip of her tail in a silent greeting as she told the apprentices to eat now if they were hungry. "I think they could do with some tree hunting lessons today," Silverwing said in response to Sparrowtail's question. She was fine with anything really, except fishing. Silverwing absolutely hated anything to do with water. Rain was fine, but swimming and even fishing were out of the question with her. In fact, though it would take no small amount of prying it out of her, Silverwing didn't actually even know how to fish. She'd been too terrified to try, and though her mentor tried a great many times to get her to at least attempt to fish, in the end he realized that it was a useless cause. She'd tried to make up for this by being a more efficient hunter on land, and was even pretty good at tree hunting. Besides her mentor, who was killed in the Great War, only Whitestar, and maybe Grayclaw know of her secret.

    Blinking the thoughts of fishing and her past away, Silverwing looked between the three apprentices, none of which had opted to eat. Perhaps they already had, or perhaps none of them wanted to be the one to delay the hunting party's departure. Sparrowtail was Icepaw's mentor, and since Morningpaw's mentor was on the dawn patrol, it seemed as though they were ready to head out. "Right, so is everyone all set to go then?" she asked, doing one last check before they left. It was very rare that she went out with more than just Cinderpaw for training, so she was somewhat overcautious.

    Cinderpaw felt her heart drop at her mentor's choice, but she chose not to show her emotions. Feeling as though getting into Morningpaw's and Icepaw's conversation would be a nuissance, she turned her her mentor."Yep, I'm ready to go!" She meowed, giving a little smile. Cinderpaw wasn't really good at tree hunting, seeing as she had troubles staying balanced when she was up high in the branches. When she was up there, she always felt as though her paws wouldn't stop shaking, and was always on edge in case she fell. Although she hadn't really told anybody, Cinderpaw was a little scared of heights- it was something to do with not being able to feel the vibrations in the ground under her feet that really got to her. But what was done was done, so Cinderpaw had to suck it up and prepare herself for the day to come. Afterall, she was the one who wanted to go hunting, so at the very least, she would try to make the most of it. "Where are we going to head?" Cinderpaw asked, trying to sound nonchalant at the least. There were a lot of climbable trees within the territory, so she wasn't quite sure where they were heading out. Most places were pretty rich in prey, even though it seemed to be on the decline, so she wasn't really worried about catching any prey, though Cinderpaw doubted she could catch any while up in the trees.

indentThe tunnel was dark, and while the black she-cat thoroughly enjoyed darkness and the secrets it kept, she found herself slightly nervous, each step bringing her closer to the tabby tom's warm body. His touch sent sparks flying, her skin rippling with electricity, as if she had been struck by lightning in a summer storm. Her paw-steps shot warmth and electricity through her body, her breathing becoming more rapid than the last. The feel of Snaketooth's pelt brushing against her's gave the warrior new energy-new life. And as she followed the tom through the narrow tunnel, she felt her breath slip out of her lungs, her wide green eyes growing ever wider as she stared at the open sky, the trees that surrounded them. "It's gorgeous," she breathed, slowly padding towards the excited tom, rubbing her head underneath his. "Thank you for sharing it with me."

Ripplepelt opned her jaws,the prey stench was new. She fell into a hunting position, Slowly and silently she heaved herself forward and sniffed the air again. 'Okay little mouse. Ready to become a meal?' She thought. Soon she was close the the prey. She began to slash her tail back and forth as she leaped intoa small bramble thicket. She heaved the mouse and jumped out, the limp mouse dangling in her jaws. She stood proudly as she saw how plumo and juicy this mouse was. It was a heavy one and Ripplepelt was sure it could feed the clan. She quickly dug a hole and stuffed the mouse in there. Senpaded off so She could hunt more.

      Lightwing
She cat;; warrior;; With Blizzardstep and Crowpaw;;

        Lightwing's tail twitched in amusement as her proud apprentice showed off his work when they came closer. Great job, she purred. She nodded to herself as she took note of what he'd caught; it was obvious from his haul that she taught more about hunting birds than anything else. She hoped that wasn't a bad thing. She padded closer to the young black cat. Come on, time to get back. You can have first pick off the fresh-kill pile, you've earned it. She remembered he'd come with them straight from his nest, he hadn't even eaten today; yet he hadn't complained once! She was proud of him, he'd make a great warrior someday. While you eat, we can discuss that first pounce, with the dove. She gave a smile and walked ahead of him to take the lead with Blizzardstep. As they began the journey home, she pondered the events that had taken place in the forest just moments earlier. What did this mean for her? For him? Would he tell other cats? The thought made her a little queasy; not the fact that others would know about them, but that it would be a subject of gossip, of ridicule. She decided not to think about it for now. So far, they had only agreed to try this out, to see where it went; it wasn't like she'd said she'd be his mate.
        Lightwing was silent the rest of the trek, focusing on not being too far or too close to the large white tom beside her. When they reached the camp after what had seemed like ages, she padded inside and dumped her fresh-kill on the pile.

      [[Waiting on Ashstripe for Splashpaw.

Icepaw
♛ Apprentice ♛ Tom ♛ Crush:: To Be Developed ♛
♛ Mentor:: Sparrowtail ♛ Tags:: Morningpaw, Cinderpaw, Silverwing, Sparrowtail ♛

Turning his gaze on the she-cat mentioned how she was older, he snorted and looked toward the nursery with a blank look on his face. "That is like saying because you are older, that you will be guaranteed to become a warrior sooner. That isn't necessarily true. You could still have the skills of a kit at 10 moons, when another apprentice at 9 moons could be nearly as knowledgeable as a 12 moon apprentice." His tone was 'matter-of-fact'ly, as he knew what he was saying could very well be true. Turning his gaze over his shoulder he glanced at where Swiftpaw was speaking to his mentor, the deputy Greyclaw, one of the cats made it obvious that he was right. Swiftpaw had been a very intelligent fighter by 9 moons and merely went through the motions in battle training and worked on strength over the last 3 moons. Though Icepaw wasn't too great at battle, he was a pretty good hunter which made up for his weaknesses in that subject. 'Anyways, don't worry about Snaketooth. If anything, Sparrowtail or Silverwing could explain what was going on. You aren't doing the clan any harm by training instead of waiting for Snaketooth to return.' His pale green eyes fell back upon the fawn colored she-cat, assessing her vibrant blue eyes as he sensed the worry that lingered in her irises. Focus immediately picking up the mentor's conversation and question to the apprentices, he looked quickly to the two older she-cats and nodded without a word. Ear flicking when the voice of Cinderpaw tickled the hairs within the cones of pink, Icepaw headed silently toward the dark hole of the entrance and stared out its mouth with his tail quivering behind him in anticipation.

Swiftpaw
♛ Apprentice ♛ Tom ♛ Crush:: ...I get this strange feeling around Firepaw... ♛
♛ Mentor:: Greyclaw ♛ Tags:: Greyclaw ♛

A look of disbelief painted his leafy green eyes as he listened to his mentor's gruff voice, struggling not to drop his jaw in shock that he was finally going to get back outside of camp for the first time in a month. A blink changed the emotion in his eyes to excitement and the closest he had ever come to sheer joy since before he was made an apprentice to the deputy. Swiftpaw's black markings were like shadows lurking behind leaves as it framed his eyes, the white markings the faint glow that was able to light up the green with the reflection of light it created. Without hesitation, he craned his head over his shoulder so that he could severe the bonds that kept the hollowed branch secured to his torso. Three vines snapped under his sharp fangs and as he struggled with the one closest to his back leg, he lifted his bad leg and awkwardly reached over his body and snagged his claw on the last bondage. With a swift tug, he severed the last tie and placed his bad leg back on the ground as it once again protruded strangely from where he lay due to the stick that was pressed against him to keep him from ruining any new bones that had formed. Pushing himself to all fours, he stretched his shoulders slightly to flex the muscles that had been forced to relax all this time.

Now that the hollowed branch lay on the ground below him, he placed a back paw on the branch and sent it sliding to where it wouldn't be in the way of any of the rest of the clan against the wall of the camp. Taking a deep breath, a small piercing pain sent a shiver through his spine as he winced with the flex of his rib cage into his not yet reconnected cartilage that holds his ribs to his breastbone. A small growl weaseled its way out of his muzzle but he clamped it off and shook his head to clear his foggy mind. It would only be 2 weeks before he could train regularly and his bones were fully healed, only half a moon and he would be showing his skills in order to become a warrior. It wouldn't be long now, as it was merely up to Greyclaw in reference as to when to assess Swiftpaw to see if he is ready to become a warrior. With a pause, he looked to his mentor before speaking out with calm yet excited look on his face while a grin complimented his features. "Anything to get out of this boring camp!" Not waiting for his mentor, he headed to the entrance where Icepaw was walked up to, hobbling slightly with the stick tied to his leg but moved well enough. His movements weren't still and he was definitely on his way to a speedy recovery, as in a mere two weeks, his bones would be ready for some vigorous training once again.

Cedarshade
♛ Warrior ♛ She-cat ♛ Crush:: Not currently ♛
♛ Apprentice:: Firepaw ♛ Tags:: Firepaw ♛

Watching Firepaw through her yellow gaze laced with pale grass colored tendrils near her iris which enhanced the black pupil as he watched her apprentice from the corner of her eye. Grinning as the muscles rippled through her shoulders and her head began to lunch out in what seemed like slow-motion, Cedarshade couldn't help but wince when teeth clamped around her tail and tugged her backwards. Giving a huff she couldn't surprise, she stumbled backwards and felt a paw sharply hit her head which caused her ears to ring and her vision to blur for a few heartbeats, giving plenty of time for Firepaw to make the next move. Not realizing how effective that her apprentice would be in the first few steps, she was unable to even remember what was coming next, her thoughts boggled and mind fuzzy from the blow to the head. As paws forced her onto her side, the air rushed from her lungs and out of her mouth, leaving her breathless and heaving as the tortoiseshell she-cat stared blankly at the blurry newleaf forest that heay many tail lengths away. Normally it was in clear view and she could identify the trunk from the leaves solidly, but in the moment everything blurred at the edges and she wasn't able to identify any of the leaves individually. Taking a breath in, feeling breathless and her heart pounding in her ears, she was only barely aware of the shuffling of paws against her side to properly pin her. Resting her head on the ground, she waited a few moments to catch her breath and allow her vision to clear as her apprentice held her down against the sandy ground of the training clearing. Finally able to see and breath normally, she turned her head and looked at Firepaw with a proud smile, pride clear in her eyes as her apprentice never failed to impress her. 'That. Was. Splendid. Definitely pull a lot harder on the tail in battle, as you nearly had me on my back with the pull, but I am much lighter weight than a muscular and large tom like Greyclaw. Hit hard with your paw, as you could potentially knock out your opponent or at the very least leave them without vision and proper hearing while you deal a killing blow or make another move. I noticed the shuffling of your paws, so make sure you know where you want your paws to go when you are aiming to pin your opponent or the shuffling of your paws can cause you to lose grip or pressure and give them a chance to move a direction to where your paws slip from their fur and they can escape. Overall, that was great for the first time. The only flaw was the pin, and you definitely haven't had to pin from the side very often." With that, she nudged Firepaw off and got to her paws and shook out her pelt as she tried to regain composure. "On that note, I will need a quick break from that to clear my head and breath. I would like you to focus on using the trees to your advantage. Imagine a pursuing opponent and you are headed straight for a tree. Instead of going around it and continuing to attempt to flee from them, leap at the tree, climb a fox-length and then push yourself so that you land a fox length from the tree, giving you room to turn around and then room to build up speed. In the air, twist your body and land in the other direction. Start with that, and then I will teach you where you will go from there. Show me if you can do that for a couple tries, I will give pointers as you go. We will put it to action after you can master the climb and leap." Taking a seat on her rear, she tried to let her foggy mind clear as she eyed her fiery apprentice, proud of her nonetheless.

Snaketooth
♛ Warrior ♛ Tom ♛ Crush:: Viperheart ♛
♛ Apprentice:: Morningpaw ♛ Tags:: Viperheart ♛

Snorting, Snaketooth waved his tail dismissively and padded out into the taller, softer grass as it brushed up past his paws. It wasn't often that grass grew this long before it was eaten or trampled, so it was a unique feeling to have the grass constantly brushing against his legs, instead of the occasional tuft of grass the grew against a tree longer than most. Eyeing a white flower, he dropped to the very familiar and natural Hunter's Crouch and slunk forward, allowing the tall grass to engulf his body up to his sides. Though he was very obvious due to his auburn tabby pelt in the bright green grass, he wasn't worried about blending in as he moved right up to the motionless plant as it soaked in the sun's growing rays and took a long breath in of the sweet scent it perfumed the air with. Tentatively, he leaned forward and plucked the flower before he looked back and trained his eyes to fall upon the black pelt of Viperheart as she lingered at the edge of the clearing. Grinning, he waved his tail before heading straight for the pond and taking his usual spot where the grass reached out to the water before turning into small pebbles and damp dirt.

Crowpaw
♛ Apprentice ♛ Tom ♛ Crush:: Not currently ♛
♛ Mentor:: Lightwing ♛ Tags:: Lightwing & Blizzardstep; Alone ♛

Nodding to his mentor as she congratulated him before collecting her kills, the black tom awaited her to take the lead with Blizzardstep toward camp. Completely unaware of what happened while he was hunting on his own, he simply let his mind focus on eating as his stomach growled like a snoring badger, causing his entire chest to rumble. It wasn't long before his back began to protest under the weight of the plump, older squirrel as he usually didn't have this much time to hunt or this big of a haul. Though he dreaded that she had seen him miss the dove, it was his fault he hadn't been making sure he was watching his weight on his paws or he would have had that catch to as the twig gave away his location. Only a few minutes passed, passing by lazily as he continued to noticed the tiring of his back and neck muscles under the weight of the prey, Crowpaw breathed a sigh of relief when the camp entrance came into view. Picking up his pace, he pushed himself through the entrance and raced to the freshkill pile while his hunger got the best of him, causing him to pick his meal out on the way to drop off his own kills. Stopping right next to the freshkill pile, he shrugged off the fat squirrel and dropped the sparrow and robin before picking up one of the three older pieces of freshkill. Choosing a decent sized rat, he carried it lazily toward the apprentice den and flopped down like a soggy heap of moss and dug into the still juicy corpse of the mouse.

Now that Crowpaw had joined them, he kept his distance from Lightwing to keep her from being distracted, but couldn't help himself from admiring the way she interacted with her apprentice with praise but didn't forget that he had missed the first catch. Positives were good, and even though Blizzardstep himself was sure that Crowpaw knew where he went wrong, it was going to have to be discussed, though Blizzardstep was sure that many mentors would have forgot about that detail and only praised their apprentice. This was more than likely the reason that Crowpaw and Lightwing did so well together and that Crowpaw had become such a great apprentice over the few short moons since he had been named. "This is exactly what makes her a great mentor.. And a potentially great mate and mother.... Tearing his gaze from her, he shoved his thoughts aside and picked up his squirrel more tightly in his jaws in order to not get too much dirt on its pelt on the way back. A little bummed out that they were already returning to camp as he loved being out in the refreshing morning air and sounds of the forest during the morning, Blizzardstep refused to let it show as he took his place at Lightwing's side about a tail length away. Not wanting to crowd her, he let her and her apprentice enter camp first, following a few moments after as he gazed back at the forest behind them that seemed to be whispering the conversation as an unnecessary reminder to the fluffy ragdoll tom. Sighing quietly, he pushed himself through the entrance and headed for the freshkill pile, and placed his squirrel near the base and shuffled the pile so that the oldest was on top and freshest was on the bottom. Making sure it was neat and not dragged out everywhere, he blinked in pleasure at the neat heap of corpses before he padded to the stream and laid down and closed his blue eyes so he could listen to the sounds of the camp and the chatter of the stream. He didn't want to bother Lightwing while he knew she wanted to talk about the dove mishap with Crowpaw before either of them forgot.

            Sparrowtail nodded at Silverwing's choice. " Great, balance is something the younger generation needs to learn, after all, you can't entirely depend on the ground to feed you; there's plenty of challenges that you must over-come when stalking. And perhaps afterward, we could work on hunting burrowing prey. Leaf-fall and leaf-bare may be a way away, but it's never too early to learn how to find nests. After all, they'll probably be warriors by then, " Her cool gaze wandered to where Icepaw stood waiting by the camp tunnel, expectation glittering within them. " And they won't have us to depend on when they need to know how to hunt in the snow - Though observing would be something good to learn. " She mewed, an underlying hint protruding through her words. Turning to Morningpaw and Cinderpaw, she lifted her head high, a seriousness coming about her. " Now, I think we should hunt along the Forbidden lands. It's no often that we hunt there, and though there isn't much prey around, the ground is softer due to the fire that once hit there, and if you fall, we won't have to drag you back to camp with a broken leg. " Her gaze traveled to Silverwing for a moment, waiting for her to agree or disagree.

            Sighing in defeat as Icepaw began to go on about the ages of apprentices and their skills, Morningpaw nodded, wanting to give in and not argue. " Yes, I know that each apprentice is bound to have certain skills that re their strengths, and some that are their weaknesses, I just meant in the terms of age, y'know, because you became an apprentice after me. Nevermind though, it's not really worth probing at. " She gave him a sheepish smile, having unintentionally sparked one of the the tom's nerves. " I guess you're right, it's not like I'd be doing anything useful just sitting around camp - He'd be glad I at least went hunting. " The she-cat replied, her ears burning once again as the tom's gaze looked her up and down. Looking away, she followed his lead and turned her head toward the warriors to listen, and upon Silverwing's reply to Sparrowtail's suggestions, she gave a small bounce of excitement at the choice of tree-hunting. Oh, good! Tree hunting, the skills required are one's I possess, if I dare say so myself. Upon Sparrowtail's suggestion of hunting along the Forbidden land's border, a shiver raked through her pelt. The forbidden lands? I've never really been along there.. It's scary..

      Lightwing

She cat;; Warrior;; With Crowpaw and Blizzardstep;;

        As Crowpaw flopped his prey onto the pile, Lightwing couldn't help but feel a surge of pride rush through her; he had done well, very well indeed. He'd be a warrior in just a few moons, and if he continued to progress as he was, he'd pass his assessment with little to no flaws. Her whiskers twitched in an amused smile when he slumped down with his chosen meal beside his den. Keeping her grin, she walked up in front of him and sat down softly while he tore at the rat by his paws. You did well today, she started, the clan will feast tonight because of you. She folded her tail neatly over her front paws and continued as he chewed. The miss at the start of the hunt, with the dove, I'm pretty sure you know what you did wrong, and how you could fix it next time, but I want to be sure I've gone over it. Your tracking was executed well, and your form was near perfect. However, your leap was poorly timed; you were a heartbeat too late, and in a hunt that's dangerous, as demonstrated today. She let the information sink in. She knew she'd told him all this before; how timing was everything and form meant nothing if you were too late or too early. Do you think we need to practice leaping a bit more? She wanted him to feel comfortable in his abilities, but didn't want to push him too hard. We also need to get some more battle training in for you soon, maybe you could train with Splashpaw sometime? Have her teach you a few things. She almost felt bitter at the thought that an apprentice would be a better teacher for Crowpaw than she. But, as she was with hunting, so was Splashpaw with fighting; something of a prodigy. She knew she'd have to put her own pride aside if her apprentice was ever to make a warrior. She couldn't let her own weaknesses poison him.

    Grayclaw was actually somewhat saddened by how happy Swiftpaw looked at the mention of just walking a simple, short border patrol with him. He supposed that if he hadn't been allowed to do anything for the past moon though, that would sound just as good to the deputy. "Shall we leave this boring camp behind then?" the deputy asked by way of saying that they were heading out. Leading the way out of camp with his apprentice training just slightly behind, Grayclaw made a conscious effort to take slower strides than normal so Swiftpaw wouldn't have trouble keeping up. Or more accurately, since he knew that his apprentice would do everything in his power to keep up regardless, he slowed his stride so that Swiftpaw wouldn't aggravate his injuries keeping up with the normal pace of the deputy.

    "I noticed that you've been giving Firepaw some pointers on battle techniques lately," Grayclaw meowed after awhile of walking in silence. He didn't care either way, but he had noticed it and therefore, he brought it up to have something to talk about. If anything, Grayclaw was glad that his apprentice was helping out, especially since the deputy was his mentor. It meant that the skills he passed on to his apprentice were being passed around to the others, thus making anyone who received Swiftpaw's advice a better fighter because of it. Especially apprentices like Firepaw, who had a mentor that disliked fighting.

    Firepaw panted as she waited for Cedarshade to recover from the move she'd just tried against her, chest heaving a bit from the exertion. The ginger apprentice beamed in joy as her mentor praised her first attempt, though when the tortoiseshell warrior went on to tell her a few pointers for future attempts, Firepaw was very attentive, soaking up every last detail. Picking her way off of Cedarshade, she gave her pelt a shake, sending out a small cloud of dust from her fur. When Cedarshade gave her a new technique to work on, Firepaw once again tried to visualize it as her mentor explained it.

    After making sure she had a clear picture of what she was supposed to do in her mind, Firepaw padded over to the nearest tree, eyeing the large oak as she marked the fox-length up she was supposed to climb before she could leap off of it. Mentally prepared, Firepaw dropped into a crouch, the muscles in her hind legs bunched up and ready to go. Springing forward, the apprentice ran at the tree, jumping onto it as she approached. She felt her claws bite into the bark a short ways up, but she still had a ways to go before she was a fox-length up. As soon as she was sure she had a hold of the tree, Firepaw began to climb. She was a bit slow and awkward at first, but she started improving a tail-length into the climb.

    In the span of a few seconds she'd reached her mark of a fox-length up the tree, and in one motion, Firepaw twisted her body and pushed off of the tree with her hind legs as hard as she could. While she landed a couple tail-lengths from the tree, she had slowed down too much while climbing the tree to make it the full fox-length she was supposed to leap. The fiery apprentice knew that the climbing was where she needed improvement, so she just started over without waiting for Cedarshade to comment this time. Firepaw tried the move several more times, each time improving bit by bit and getting slightly closer to the whole fox-length. Finally, after half a dozen attempts, the ginger-and-white she-cat finally did it, making it an entire fox-length up the tree and being able to leap a whole fox-length away from it as well.

    Silverwing nodded in agreement with Sparrowtail's comment. For all that the other she-cat wasn't very outgoing, she was certainly still a fine warrior. Not that Silverwing had doubted that, but the silver tabby found it interesting that Sparrowtail viewed some things very differently than she did, but they both thought similarly when it came to training their apprentices. At least for today. Silverwing rarely trained Cinderpaw in the company of others, and she couldn't recall a time that she'd ever done so with Sparrowtail and her apprentice, Icepaw. Which was a bit strange, considering that she and Sparrowtail had been apprentices together around the same time and had trained together on a few occasions as well.

    Glancing between the apprentices to make sure that they were all ready to head out, Silverwing signaled them all to leave with a sweep of her tail as the silver she-cat took the lead. "The border with the Forbidden Lands is a great idea," she meowed to Sparrowtail, referring to the other warrior's earlier comment about where would be best to train. The soft ground and the younger trees would make it easier for the apprentices to learn the basics. The bark of the trees there would be thinner and their claws would be able to get a better grip in them than in the thicker, drier bark of older trees. Plus, if they did fall, the softer earth would make the fall easier.

    It had been about a moon since Swiftpaw's accident, so the apprentices' worries about climbing trees had begun to wane. Although the deputy's apprentice had explained that the branch was old and rotted out, which is what caused it to fall from underneath him, that reassurance did little to calm the fears of apprentices who had not yet learned the skill of tree climbing. But they would have to learn some time, and what better time than now. Coming up on their destination, Silverwing slowed down, now just padding along at a leisurely pace. "How would you like to work this, Sparrowtail?" the silver tabby asked the other warrior as they came to a halt in an area perfect for training.

Looking down at the water, ThunderStrike made a face. He hadn't been here for a while and still wanted to get a nice fish and all, but he still couldn't bring himself to dip his one front paw into the cool water. He just hated the feeling of the stream and the wetness that the water caused to his fur. He sighed and slowly walked back to the center of the camp, settling for something from the prey pile instead. He took a plump sparrow and brought it to a sunny patch of grass, feeling the warmth on his fur as he squinted his eye. He bit into the bird and licked his lips, the taste of the bird was quite good and his tail went around in all directions, as if it moved on it's own.

MeadowLark woke up with a jolt, widening her eyes as she felt something crawling up her paw, she got up and shook furiously. Looking down, she realized it had only been a small leaf that had ruined her beauty sleep. She sighed and licked herself clean before stretching and walking through the brush. She sniffed out something to eat in a matter of a few minutes, there was a mouse somewhere near. She crawled low to the ground and stalked the unseen rodent before spotting it stuck inside of a rough, thick bush. She batted it around a few times until ripping it from it's trap and breaking it's little neck. She skipped back to where she had woken, beside an old tree, and started to eat the small creature. She was grateful it had been so easy to find and licked her muzzle, delighted.

ScarletPaw awoke to the sound of birds chirping. A delightful way to wake up, but not in her book. She didn't like the mornings and wanted to stay in her cozy nest forever, but she knew she needed to get up. She brought her small body to the shade of a tree and lid down. She wasn't very hungry this morning and nibbled at the tall grass infront of her. She fluffed up her short fur and yawned again, bored out of her mind. Man, She thought to herself as she rolled to her side, Mornings really, REALLY suck.
