~$ H A S T A~

-The stench was becoming overwhelming, really...fogged with something foul and oily...his nose immediately wrinkling up at the stingy aroma... -Something was crawling to the surface, too- something that had intimidating black beady eyes... As the thing merged forward, Shasta began to make out this yellowed, white strip of fur running from the thing's face and all the way to its flailed tail...the pattern undeniably a...a...

~Yep...
~That's a skunk~

Yelping, the brute yanked his head back, scrambling away from the thing as quickly as he could before whirling around- making those two, high bounds into the air and twisting around that one oak tree...quickly galloping back into camp.
His fur was still somewhat ruffled...still cackling with this ill, grossed-out disgrust...
-Pawing his muzzle disdainfully, he did his best to rub away that awful, clingy scent...walking a little stiffly through that wall of brush.

...Can't believe you just did that...

-His conscience chastised, it's tone bitter with slight annoyance...almost embarrassed, even...
...Almost.
-To honest, with Shasta's ongoing personality...stupid embarrassment just wasn't really an option.
Blinking up a little crookedly out into the slate of the cleared camp, he watched a reddish fae lope through those pine trees- her shadow coming into a clearer depth and detail as grew even closer... Calming her breaths and letting her composure return to its usual, agile state...Shasta's lead huntress locked eyes with him.
...She even called his name...

-Raika was one of those fae's that the brute couldn't help but grow hyper around, the very air often hiccuping in his throat and his muzzle often barred into one of those wide, eager grins, his peppy personality unfazed...
-Understanding that this was some sort of urgent matter, the bleached white wolf found himself politely shrugging.

"-Alue? I think she went out hunting earlier this morning...that way, North. Khalon? He's busy over there, speaking with Akita- Is something wrong?"

-He innocently perked his ears, doing his best to seem at least somewhat helpful towards his lead...

"i um.." I stutter once more, "i'm sorry.. khalon?" it sounds like a question,
even though I had meant for it to be a statement. then, I shake my head and
start over. "how.. how was your morning... khalon?" I ask him, unable to think
of something else to say. the birds overhead start singing. one starts the song,
then others join in as it goes along. even the mockingbirds are singin' along. i
smile, finally realizing what a beautiful morning it is. I shift on my feet a little,
trying to make myself feel a little less akward. my ear flicks to the left, as i
detect the sound of paws ambling along a leafy path. I listen harder, waiting a
moment before I hear shasta's voice. with a sigh, I direct my attention back to
khalon. my eyes and ears are now focused on him, as I begin to forget Shasta.

The gray fae ran alongside her female counterpart, the breeze they were creating whipping through her fur. They hopped, skipped and jumped over obstacles as they came, the trees flashing by in a blur from their quick pace. Raize wasn't wasting anytime in finding someone to tell about the rats, though she had no problem with it. Their pace slowed as they reached the edges of camp, her heart pounding in her chest and the blood singing through her veins. Running was one of the most freeing things, always calling to her whenever she needed to clear her mind. It also helped to keep her stamina up for the long hunts that were necessary in order to keep up with deer and elk who would sometimes run for miles before they could catch up.

Raika stood slightly behind Raize as the other fae approached Shasta, her head dipping slightly in acknowledgement of the brute. Her ears flicked as she looked around camp, noticing that nearly everyone was gone, including their Alpha. Where she had gone, Rai had no idea, but Alue was always such a mystery to her to begin with. She was a good leader, no doubt, but would hardly talk to anyone it seemed. Feeling her heart stop its rapid beating, Raika listened as Raize spoke to Shasta, though her mind was seemingly elsewhere.

The onyx pelted loner watched with amusement as the pup became very bold, pushing himself to his paws and puffing out his chest slightly. His head cocked to the side as he watched, a small smile tugging at the corners of his mouth. Even at his full height, the young brute was only at Altair's shoulder, though he looked up at the loner with ferocious determination in his eyes, meeting his golden gaze with no problem though his tail still shook behind him. One black ear flicked in Alue's direction as she spoke, abruptly cutting off at the start of a new sentence. He could almost feel the tension in the air thicken before he even looked in the fae's direction, his eyes landing on her gray coat just as it began to bristle and her lips pulled back. He frowned, wondering what her problem was, watching as she stared at him with nothing but distaste in her amber gaze. But just as quickly as it had come, the feeling vanished, replaced by an expression that was almost endearing.

Those golden eyes looked back at the pup standing in front of them just as she leaned in to whisper thank you in his ear. A slight shudder passed imperceptibly through his body as her breath rustled the fur on his ear and the side of his face. Shaking it off, he gave her a curt nod, his eyes flashing to something in the bushes. He could faintly see a splash of white that didn't blend in with the green forage around it, assuming quickly that that was Perfmafrost Alue had mentioned. At the mention of following the three others back to camp, Altair's stomach tightened, a sense of uneasiness passing through his body. As much as he wanted to, the thought of being a loner still pulled at his heart, calling him back. It had been so long since he had been around this many wolves, and the thought of being around even more made him especially weary. He was not accustomed to talking and getting to know other wolves, and he really found no point in it, most of the time. He had watched too many of those who were close to him die when he was young that he promised himself he would never be a part of a pack again so he wouldn't have to risk the chance of it happening twice in his life. But here he was, talking to the Alpha of a pack as she asked him to come with. How could he say no? How could he say yes? Saying yes implied many, many things, and promised many more. Promises he wasn't necessarily ready to keep. As he nodded yes in response, he told himself he would give it a try. If anything, he would just disappear into the night, back into the shadows.

The fae moved to leave the bush, not suprized Alue had noticed her, and winced in pain as a branch scraped her side. She took a few seconds to find the injury, it wasn't bleeding but she gave it a lick anyway. While she was looking at her side, she took the time to pull a few leaves out of her pelt.

Turning back toward the three wolves, Permafrost lowered her head for a second in a bow, acknowledging the loner, as well as the Alpha's, presence. She took a minute to study the loner and reflect over what had happened at the time she was here.

The loner has a basic black pelt, no other colors seem to be there. His eyes are a yellow-orange color, which looks really nice with the color of his pelt. He must've accedentally, maybe purposefully, run into Alue and probably ended up entering a fight, again, I don't know why. Kain probably went back to find me, I was taking a long time, and ended up tumbling in the wrong direction, leading him here, and onto the loner's front legs. The loner seemed to have been friendly to him, which I can be thankful for, if he hadn't been, Kain could've tried to fight him, and I'm not sure that would've ended well. Alue had been suprised at this, so he'd probably seemed like he was looking for a fight before. Looks like, whatever I do, the best thing is to not jump to conclusions here.

~Hmf, probably shouldn't make any promises ~
~Good Riddance ~

~She thought briefly, her golden, bitter yellow eyes seeming to pierce into him as she skeptically drew her gaze over his new posture...analyzing the way his muzzle twitched with hesitation...her mind growing cryptic with assumptions...

-Truthfully, it was what Alue was naturally good at. She'd always had a habit of burrowing herself in other wolves' buisness, and even as a pup she always found herself with the bigger ears and the wider eyes... -She was always bursting with curiosity and interest at every word, eager to suck the information from others and to gain that upper hand...to have that tad bit of information and assurance... -It was a talent- a skill-
...To be able to read others as if they were an open book, and yet- to still be able to keep her own covers closed and locked shut... -It was an art- a game...

...A game that even though she told herself she shouldn't be playing... -She often did.

~Addicting~
~Consuming~
...
...Slightly intimidating ~
...Quite an odd mixture of personalities, don't you think, 'Lue?

-Swiveling her perspective gaze back towards the black, almost onx-colored brute, she watched him... Permafrost was slowly coming out from within the torn and tumbled bracken, wincing slightly as she pulled herself away from the leaves and shriveled up thorns...
-She simply dipped her small, snowy head...nodding in acknowledgment towards both of the adults...

-Returning the ascertive, civil nod, Alue finally gathered to her paws.

...The loner seemed to be taking his time on the response...no doubt rolling the alpha's words about in that thick, burly skull of his and thinking it over...thinking it over a little too much than preferred...

~He's been without other wolves for the majority of his life~
~He's an overall aggressive and negative brute~

...Though...
~He is considerably soft for pups...
~He does wish to prove himself...
~But he doesn't wish to take the time or effort he'll need to gain any position~
...Very, very unreliable...
...Probably won't even sleep in a den...
...
...Nah, he'd rather sleep with the skunks...

...Finally he nodded in understanding...but...
-That was it.
-No words.
Just...
...The look in his eyes.
Nothing more.
Blinking, Alue inhaled a various breath...
Oh yes, Khalon would love to hear all about this one...
-Giving a small, flash of her tail, the tan fae slinked forward, begining the casaul trot towards camp and dropping into a leisurely walk as they neared the entrance.

Juliette glanced around the area, clearly scent marked. She could easily tell where the boarders were, but she didn't care. Inside these lands there had to be a lake, somewhere. I can't hunt, but I can fish. God I really hope there is a lake. She thought, her heart beating as she wandered over the boarder. She could basically hear it beating throughout her body, as her tail began to flick anxiously. While she walked, she pawed at the ground, another nervous habit. This isn't a good idea. This really isn't a good idea. What if you get caught? Oh youre going to get caught! Youre so dead! She thought closing her amber eyes tightly as she continued to pad forward, her ears pinning back against her head. Soon she heard the faint sound of rushing water, her heart leaping out of her chest. Her ivory white fur swayed gently with each step she took the final step before reaching the bank, looking down into the crystal surface that reflected her face. Peering in she noticed a few fish, swimming by. She had grown accustomed to fishing have used to live on an island. It wasn't very far from mainland however. She looked into the water, flashing her paw inside and clawing out a decent sized fish. She threw it far enough from the bank before walking over and sinking her claws down in the gills, killing it instantly. Starving, she devoured her meal, burying the bones near a bush. She moved over to the water again, taking a drink which happened to wash the blood off her maw. She looked around. It was a beautiful place. The river always seemed to calm her, water always seemed to calm her nerves. Still quite nervous, her tail continued to flick as she hoped no one caught her. If they did she didn't know what she would do.

-----------------------------

The loner's ears flicked in Permafrost's direction as she slowly appeared from the bushes, from the exact spot he had seen the splash of white. She approached the three wolves without hesitation, merely shaking her pelt free of any debris as she walked. He dipped his head slowly to her as she acknowledged them, watching the young fae as she seemed to study him. She seemed to be the perceptive type, almost like her Alpha...Though hopefully without the attitude, he thought, his eyes darting over to where Alue was rising to her paws. He could almost feel every time her amber eyes landed on him, studying him, as if she couldn't get enough, or maybe she was looking for some sort of kink in his armor. Good luck, he thought, a huff of breath escaping his muzzle. She said nothing to his agreement to follow the three pack wolves back to camp, merely started trotting away with a flick of her tail. The tan fae might be the Alpha, but even if she wasn't, she still would've been just as full of herself. He knew that for a fact. It was basically in her blood, bred into her almost. He wondered absentmindedly if there was anyone who could handle her, who put up with her sarcasm and her attitude. She had continuously pushed him, taunted him, and he had only broken once, because he wasn't one to take insults likely especially after all she had already said. Regardless, he didn't think there were many wolves that put up with her attitude, but maybe she would surprise him with the way she treated her pack members.

As they weaved their way through the forest, Alue leading and him taking up the rear, he paid attention to every inch of territory they covered. The way the trees created a canopy above them, though most had barren branches, the odd trunk here and there, the way the roots dug into the earth, the trickle of a stream off in the distance, he saw and heard it all. Though he would never say it, he had ventured this far into the territory before, merely out of curiosity, but since then, he had remained near the edges so he wouldn't get caught. Look how well that worked, he thought to himself, a frown appearing on his muzzle. He shook his head, throwing away the thought. The loner said he would give it a try, and he would. He didn't say how long, and if it was horrible after only a few hours, they shouldn't be surprised if he disappeared without a trace. He was good at that, disappearing, and they would never find him, no matter how hard they tried. Though he doubted anyone would come running after him; he was hardly worth that much.

Already up and alert, the large brute silently padded through the forest ground, his paws making a whisper as they press against the curled, dried leaves of autumn. His dark eyes scanned his surroundings, noting the crook of a branch that held a sparrow. He had woken just a little after Quinn and was on his normal watch for unwanted wolves, though honestly, winter was coming and every wolf would be struggling for food, which meant more interactions.

Before he could dwell on the thoughts of a fight between loners and packs, he caught a whiff of the fae scout, just a little ways ahead of him. Shade had already circled the camp once, it wouldn't hurt to have some company. Bounding over, Shade greeted Quinn with a smile and a friendly nip to the shoulder. "It's rather peaceful this morning." He commented in a hushed voice, careful not to disturb the air of tranquility.

The fae continued her seemingly endless circling of the camp, ears twitching at the slightest sound, nose taking in every scent. Thankfully, as of yet, the only sights, sounds and smells were that of either the pack or usual small creatures dwelling nearby. Nevertheless, as was customary, the scout never let down her guard as she made her way silently through the brush. After all, winter was coming, which meant only one thing - the wolves without a pack - loners - would be soon here.

Suddenly, a subtle 'crack' emanated from behind her. However, as it was accompanied by the familiar scent of a pack member, Quinn didn't take much notice as her fellow scout, Shade, came bounding over. "It is, isn't it?" She replied, returning the friendly shoulder nip and toothy greeting grin as her tail wagged slightly with delight at the presence of another wolf. "It's definitely getting colder though" She added, referring to the gradually declining temperature.

Pipit

Pipit was already waiting in the woods for his fellow pack members when they came along a bend in the path. Earlier that morning he had already been up and awake, around dawn. He didn't sleep as well as he used to anymore, so it was easier to get up and do his job than worry meddling over trivial things like a 'proper nights rest'. Pipit hadn't been there long, if it was any consolation to the two wolves rounding the corner; just long enough to clean out his fur and scratch one of his ears with a hind paw. Nothing unusual had come up previously when he had walked a smaller portion of their territory's perimeter. Siting relaxed, his ear twitched in the direction of the sound of footfalls as the two Scouts drew closer to his location. Once they had rounded the bend, Pipit half-turned to meet them and fall in line as the patrol made its rounds. He muttered a quick "good morning" to each of them in turn, followed by a quick blink of amber eyes

'Good morning?' that's all he had to say? Stupid. Stupid. Stupid. A simple hello would have sufficed, why couldn't he just say 'Hi' to them. It really wasn't that difficult, just say it and get it over with. He isn't a child (well kinda), so what must they think of him? So small and quiet, not even to acknowledge them. Pipit chided himself, frowning.

Raize

Age: 4 years
Gender: Fae/Female
Rank: Lead Hunter
Crush: Shasta
Location: In Camp
Tagged: Raika, Shasta
Raize listened intently having a small nod as she took in the information. "Perhaps you could go and see what Khalon makes of this situation. " The fae murmured to Raike, casting a quick glance over in the Beta's direction.

"Is something wrong?"

The huntress blinked, the only sign of her flickering disapproval towards no one in particular.
Shasta notices too much... Her eyes narrowed as she surveyed Shasta, wondering if she should tell this brute or not. If it was simply a single rat, she could deal with it... but it was a swarm, and even small swarms could be dangerous.

Would you rather have him be bitten by accident? Then the blame will befall you.
Yeesh, you make it sound like I'm trying to injure him on purpose...
You do like him, don't you? I really don't understand why you have to make a choice, it's obvious you should tell him.
Raize sighed inwardly as she opened her maw to speak, silently scolding herself. "It's just tha--!" She stopped in mid word, sniffing the air a bit before scanning Shasta head to toe. "Why do you smell like a skunk?" Her voice tilted in amusement, her eyes glimmering, her tone gently teasing as she cocked her head to the side questioningly.

Padding alongside the fae scout, the grey brute found himself reflecting the grin Quinn gave him, a delightful exchange between friends. When Quinn noted the chilling weather, Shade let out a sigh, watching in dismay as he could see the white cloud of his breath. "Indeed it's getting colder." He murmured, his tail drooping the slightest bit at the thought of the coming harsh season. "I do hope we don't get much loners this year...it's always hard to chase them off when we know they're suffering more than us...." His gentle gaze wandered the landscape he was trotting through, though a flicker of uncertainty echoed in the depths of his chocolate brown eyes.

I'm a fool for speaking my thoughts aloud, for all I know, she might be against what I'm saying...
Would she?

A quiet voice spoke in the corner of his mind, reminding him of the kind and loyal scout he strode beside.
Don't think your friend is so shallow, she is often just as thoughtful as you, perhaps even more in some cases. Shade cast a quick thoughtful glance towards Quinn, watching the smooth gait the fae was in, looking carefully for any signs of disagreement.

Before Shade could catch Quinn's reaction, he was halted by a brute, about 2 years younger than himself. What was his name again? The brute blinked shamefully as he tried to recall the other scout's name.

"Good morning."

Tsk tsk Shade, you ought to remember such a loyal lad. It ain't his fault for blending into the background.
His name's Pipit, now don't forget!

Shade cast the younger wolf a friendly smile and a dip of his head. "Good morning to you too." The brute finally said, his tail sweeping the forest ground joyfully at the new companion who has joined their morning walk.

Frost

Age: 4 years
Gender: Brute/Male
Rank: Fighter
Crush: Aspen
Family: Shade
Location: Outside Camp
Tagged: Juillette
Stalking out of camp territory, his fur standing on end in irritation, the large brute huffed out a sigh of relief, glad to be away from those annoying students.
Aren't you glad to not teach those pesky students? You'd be going insane if you had to stick with them all day. Frost groaned at the simple thought, following the winding lake shore. He was about to plump his rump down on the soggy wet mud when a sudden scent drifted by him, just upstream. A loner?! And inside the territory?

His stormy gray eyes narrowed in contempt for the stray animal, but nonetheless, it shouldn't be his job to chase those scoundrels away. The fighter bent down to lap at the chilling water, gulping thirstily at the fresh water. His ears tipped with black swiveled towards a sound, so uncommon that it caused Frost to pause and look up from his drink.

Was that the splash of fish? Out of water? What kind of wolf is desperate enough to go fishing? Now truly curious, though wary, the light grey brute slid into the weaving underbrush and out of sight, glad for the wind that blew towards him, hiding his scent. The brute's muscles twitched in anticipation as he stalked slowly and silently towards the intruder, all the while making sure she was too busy to notice his existence, for now. His tail flicked in surprise as he scented blood and the fresh smell of fish.

Chase her out, Frost! She's hunting in your territory! She's taking your prey! His thoughts screamed in his skull, demanding he put his sleeping muscles to good use, but somehow, Frost didn't give into his thought like he normally would. No, he just slid out of the shadows, his piercing eyes never leaving the fae as he crouched, ready to attack. "Why are you here?" HIs voice a gentle husk, concealing the deadly fighter within his rippling muscles and thick fur coat.

Kain

Age: 1 year
Gender: Brute/Male
Rank: Student
Crush: None
Family: Khalon
Location: Forest
Tagged: Permafrost,
Alue, Altair

Kain gave the young fae a mischievous smile before loping ahead, wishing to receive some information. He padded along, regaining his past confidence, the young brute walked alongside the large wolf, the stranger's stance filled with power and dominance. Being the blunt one and often the curious wolf, Kain couldn't help but pipe up a question, or two. "My name's Kain and I'm a student. What rank will you be? You seem to get along with Alue, will you be the Alpha male? That'll be fun! Perhaps you could teach me a few things! What was your life as a loner? Was it challenging?" His questions were a waterfall, never ending as he yapped. Kain tried not to be annoying, but he had never met a loner, well... a loner they didn't chase off. The young wolf was by far curious of this strange wolf that had joined their ranks, wary, but mostly excited.

Maybe he and I can be friends!
Would you really want to replace Khalon? He's your brother whether you like it or not.
But...he's never had the time to play with me, or even bother teaching me... everything I do seems to get him annoyed...
Kain quieted, pulled back into his thoughts as he remembered Khalon...probably off doing something important. His tail drooped a bit at the thoughts and his excitement now fading into a small withering flame.

╘═════════════╛

Juliette had been feeling an odd presence around her for a bit, but ignored it due to the hunger that had lurked in her body. Her ribs were clearly visable through her pelt, she was starving. She froze in her place as she heard a voice. She couldn't bare herself to turn around. For a moment, she just stood there, and breathed. Stupid, stupid, stupid! You knew you would get caught! Her mind screamed at her before she turned her body to face the brute, in a clear fighting stance, one she knew all too well from her father. "I... I... I..." She said, her voice clearly stuttering in nervous panic. She took a step back, but she'd already been on the edge of the river, and her leg slipped in and she fell back with it before pulling herself out, shaking off slightly still dripping wet. "I... I was starving... I... I didn't know what to do..." She said, her amber eyes glazing over in nervousness and fear. She wasn't particularly good at talking to strangers. Hes going to kill you, hes going to rip your head off and feed it to his alpha. Youre going to die here without having any say, youre bones its not like you can defend yourself. Oh, you shouldn't have come in here! Her mind pounded with the anxiety filled thoughts.

Airen growled low in his throat as he continued his walk through the territory, until he scented something, someone, different. He growled as the fur on the back of his neck rose in hostility. He wasn't one for polite introductions. He put himself into a position, prepaired to attack. Even if she was a fae. His eyes glared at her, the cold grey blinking at her. "Who are you." He said, hostility lingering in his tone as he took a step toward the lounging loner, his shoulder muscles flexing with his every move. "I said," he continued, aggression smothering his tone. "who are you?" Impatience getting to his throat as he store her down with cold eyes. His eyes moving over her for a moment, he knew he would win in a fight. He was much larger than her, and judging quickly, he knew what her weaknesses could be. Hostility flashed as he circled around the boulders she was laying on momentarily, still waiting for a response.
