Where did they come from?!

Alarmed and most definitely shocked, the lean fae watched in silence, masking her horror as the grim covered critters scurried near her paw. Her companion, seemingly more disgusted and eager to leave, prompted the huntress to quickly leap a good length away from the filthy creatures. "Yeah, let's go." Her voice was hardly audible as she spoke through clenched teeth, eyes still narrowing in detest for the rodents swarming the area.

How did they get so close to camp?
I had better warn Alue, this could prove to become a problem....

Snout scrunched up, trying to block the horrid scent, the red wolf dashed out of the area, beckoning her friend with a flick of ears. "Never mind the rabbits' burrow, I rather none of the hunters get bit." Murmured Raize with a dismayed shake of her head. This afternoon may prove to be yet another challenging hunt in preparation for the winter. Her sigh was a whisper against the singing wind as her paws, despite their size, still pounded against the forest floor as both faes sped through the forest, and back towards the camp, hoping the rats would not follow.

Padding alongside the fae scout, the grey brute found himself reflecting the grin Quinn gave him, a delightful exchange between friends. When Quinn noted the chilling weather, Shade let out a sigh, watching in dismay as he could see the white cloud of his breath. "Indeed it's getting colder." He murmured, his tail drooping the slightest bit at the thought of the coming harsh season. "I do hope we don't get much loners this year...it's always hard to chase them off when we know they're suffering more than us...." His gentle gaze wandered the landscape he was trotting through, though a flicker of uncertainty echoed in the depths of his chocolate brown eyes.

I'm a fool for speaking my thoughts aloud, for all I know, she might be against what I'm saying...
Would she?

A quiet voice spoke in the corner of his mind, reminding him of the kind and loyal scout he strode beside.
Don't think your friend is so shallow, she is often just as thoughtful as you, perhaps even more in some cases. Shade cast a quick thoughtful glance towards Quinn, watching the smooth gait the fae was in, looking carefully for any signs of disagreement.

Altair, Alue.

The wild surge of the chase overwhelmed the young wolf's senses as his paws thundered against the soft earth, feeling every prickle of the grainy dirt as it flew behind him. Adreline soared through his veins as he continued to run, feeling the air as it whipped by him, a song to his ears as his tongue lolled in joy.

I bet I'm the fastest wolf in the world! His thoughts whirled happily in his mind, but a sudden reminder pricked itself in.
Where's Permafrost?
Did you leave your friend behind? Did you leave her alone as your family did to you?

His sudden speed faltered and he fell head over heels as he rolled through the mud. Kain's eyes widened as he let out a frightened yelp, a scream of terror as he plunged through brambles and thickets filled with thorns, branches tugged at his fur, raking his body, leaving small cuts and bruises as he plummeted down the slope and out of the territory. The brute didn't know when he would stop, but suddenly, he crashed against a firm body. (Altair) A quite, pathetic whimper echoed form his maw as he scrambled to his feet, his eyes shinning with fear and uncertainty.

Towering in front of him was a jet black brute, thin, though well-built, muscles rippling through the night pelt. Through his frantic scramble to back up, he did not notice his Alpha, not yet.

~Oh, look at this~
~How lovely~
~Is he going to beg now?
~That would sure be interesting to see...

Alue couldn't help but find an intrigueing, almost mocking smile tug at the corners of her maw, her ears prickling excitedly as she watched the ebony brute, her eyes grazing over his sleek, onx like fur and the slight touch of silver about his muzzle...the anticipation as his stark, amber eyes began to shift...to widen...to reveal that devilish dab of emotion...
-He practically laughed.
-Practically.
-...Almost.
-...Not really.

~Aw~
~So close, too~

-At the brute's comment, the Alpha couldn't help but feel the grey-ish hairs along her back rise up, cackling almost...her tan, coppery tail giving one of those thrashes... -Narrowing her piercing, yellow gaze...she now took her turn to circle. The Fae's body was smaller and more leeth than his...the size comparison quite odd when put together- his powerful, rippling chest contrasting against her petite, yet long, leggy frame. Hunkering her head low, she took a step to his right- now skirting a large oval around him and slowly slinking out of his peripheral, before once again coming face to face- now elitely on his left. As she placed her paws on the earthy ground, she took her time...pausing every once and a while to put an emphasis on her words.
Peeling back her lips and running her pale, pink tongue along the rims of her teeth...

"-Being a student does not, make you an idiot. Claiming it does, though, will."

-She seethed, her tone seeming to grow slightly defensive, protective, even. She had several students in her pack- all of which were bursting with potential and had plenty to offer- all of which were learning and straining hard to grasp the information given to them by their mentors- all of which young and not even a full two years old...

~Sure, being a student was a pup's dream~
~But the whole reason of having one would be to show what a pack did and how it functioned-
~Something every wolf needs to understand, no matter the age~

...She slowed, feeling her ears focus attentively at his next remark- something that quite surprised her, honestly. The brute seemed to be growing antsy- but this- this-
...Who would have expected this??
Twisting her maw to find the right words, the sleek Fae finally forced a nod- genuine, even.

"-Hmm, are you doing this because you suddenly have an urge to be a hunter? ...-Or, are you doing this merely for the sake of proving me wrong? ...
-Fine. Here. Sense you are so inclined...how about you hun---"

~She began, ready to give him something- ready to give the brute some sort of oppurtunity- ready to easily let him have a go at whatever he could possibly find- ready to truly open up- and then-

~Kain??
~Ha, wonderful~
~Perfect timing~
~Hilarious~
~Way to really crash into someone...

Permafrost turned her ears to a loud crash nearby, then, not worrying about Kain as she could always find his scent again, she walked over to the area to find her Alpha, a loner, and the young brute she'd been following. Carefully positioning herself next to a bush so she was noticable but not in the way, she sat down to watch the chaos unfold.

Sorry this is so short, I don't know enough details about the area to make it longer.

(sorry this is not pretty - on mobile & wanted to get a post in for you guys - will post for Raika after work)

The loner watched her silently as she began to circle him just as he had done to her. Watching her small, lithe body was amusing, to say the least. They were complete opposites in nearly every way when it concerned their body shape, color, and size. Where he was large and bulky, she was small and almost fragile looking. His fur was the color of coal, her's the color of an overcast sky mixed with sand. It was strange for him, being this close to another one of his own kind. He hadn't been within miles of one in what seemed like forever. Sure, he'd run into another loner every now and then, but then he would always do his best to steer clear in order to avoid a confrontation. That was vital when you were alone, making sure you didn't purposefully seek out a fight with someone. If you did, and got critically injured, the odds were not in your favor, and contrary to popular belief, he did want to live a decently long life. He could sense her frustration with his comments, especially in the way the fur on her back stood on end, in the way she seemed to take her time, putting emphasis on each step and on each word as she spoke. He listened, forever the listener, his head following her as she walked around him so he could keep his eyes on her. He didn't think she would attack him anymore, but he had been less surprised other times. He was pretty sure her entire intent was to constantly make him feel like an idiot though she'd never admit to that.

Altair was about to reply to her statements, his blood pressure had risen continuously as she had spoke. He was able to ask, "Who's going to be my mentor, princess? You?" finishing just as a small ball rolled right into his front legs, knocking him slight off balance. A low, rippling growl erupted from his muzzle before he could even see what the ball of fur was. His onyx fur bristled as the ball unrolled itself revealing a young adult wolf. The sun shone down, making his teeth glisten as his lips pulled back. The young brute was clearly frightened by what he had done as he was staring up at the loner with mountains of fear in his eyes. Golden, wise eyes met the young ones as he stared down at the young brute. Slowly, the loner calmed down, realizing it was just a young wolf who had not intentionally ran into them. "Watch your step, bud," he said, his voice taking on none of the frustration that had previously consumed him. The black brute generally did his best to be somewhat kind to the young ones, knowing that they were just learning how to be wolves and just coming into adulthood. They needed all the guidance they could get so they didn't have to learn everything on their own like he had. That was no way to live.

kanti found herself awoken by the chirps of birds. her golden eyes, lit with fresh sunlight, searched for them in the tree tops. one blue bird sat perched 3 branches from the bottom in the nearest oak tree. a friend fluttered beside it and began chirping in harmony. kanti shifted her tired gaze to the sky, rolling over on her back with a whine. she wasn't exactly sure whether or not it was morning yet but that didn't truly matter in her opinion. taking a stand, the orange she-wolf stretched, her spine crackling, her toes inching apart. she shook her mane and began to sniff the air so she could get her bearings. once again, she had neglected to sleep in the safety of her den; this inconsistency of her sleeping location was the norm. one day it would be under the oak tree that the birds were located, the next day by the creek to wake up to her paws drenched. on this particular morning it was under an aspen tree just outside the camp, that she had awoken with a fierce appetite. licking her black lips, she began trotting towards the food pile.
as she approached the pile of dead animals, she noted that at the direction the sun was peering through the trees that it must be near noon. not only was her sleeping location inconsistent, so was the time she slept. kanti picked up a small fawn and dragged it to the nearest bush where she began to feast. noticing that there were wolves nearby she made sure she didn't look like such a pig as she ate.

The sand-colored fae nodded eagerly, her eyes still fixated on the rats as they continued about their business. They were disgusting creatures really, and finding them near one of the better, though still small, hunting spots was rather disappointing. There was no way they would be coming back to that spot to hunt the rabbits, not as long as the vermin continued roaming through the area. Not to mention the disease the rats carried; she'd rather no one get bitten and end up getting sick from the rodents. Raika followed Raize immediately, as they both fell into a quick lope making their way through the forest. Her nostrils remained flared in hopes of finding a scent they could track to a much better hunting spot. It was difficult to hunt come this time of year, and the low morale was beginning to get to her. It would usually take days for them to find something decent, such as a herd of deer, to hunt. Even then, with such a large pack, it was difficult to feed everyone fully. Having a large pack was both a blessing and a curse, though she still enjoyed the company it provided most days.

The large, hovering evergreens cleared as both hunters made it through the dense trees, gulping for air after the quick run.

I've got to warn Alue!
Where is she?!

Franticly looking for her leader, the red wolf calmed her racing heart, feeling as her pulse slowed. Eerily, Raize noticed that almost everyone was out of camp coincidently at this moment. Taking a gulp of fresh air, clearing herself of the rat's scent, Raize noticed the scent of a brute. A hunter she was well familiar with. "Shasta!" Her call echoed across the clearing as the fae loped over, tail swaying slightly, barely noticeable. "Have you seen Alue? Or Khalon? We need to find them...." Raize tilted her head towards Raika, inferring the we as the two of them.

I'm sick of all those students that squabble about in the morning. He was annoyed the minute he had awoken since Kain had somehow ended up in his den, again. That pup must've had a scary dream again and scurried to the nearest den, his den. The brute snorted in distaste as he strode out of his pack border, thinking to get some fresh air. He would have liked to be a loner, with such freedom in his soul, but he wouldn't leave Shade, not ever.

Frost huffed in irritation as a few squirrels darted past his claw and Frost considered chasing after them, just to see if they had the nerve to cross his path again. Stalking low in the underbrush, the wolf followed the two preys until they had stopped to chatter among some leaves. He tensed, ready to lunge when a sudden strange scent crossed his path. Another wolf. Frost's eyes narrowed in suspicion, though the thrill of something interesting tugged at him as he began to change course, tracking this lone wolf, so close to camp. A low growl escaped his curled lips as his hackles rose in warning, alerting the loner of his presence.

The young wolf tried his best to hide his growing fear, refusing to tuck his tail between his legs. He would not stand low, not to a loner.
I'm the beta's brother, I can do this!
Determination shone in his eyes as he leaped to his paws, shaking the twigs and leaves off his fur coat. His stance was defensive, though his tail spoke a different story. A low growling rippled through his throat, only to be cut off at the brute's next words, the ferociousness had ebbed, only leaving the tone of an instructor gently scolding a student.

"Oh...um...I'm sorry, I'll be careful next time." His voice came out much weaker than he had anticipated, causing him to stammer as he spoke. Kain took a slow, uncertain step backwards, only to come to an abrupt stop. Out of the corner of his eye was the glimmering pelt of his alpha, staring at him.
Now I really did it! How am I supposed to become a fighter, or even a hunter if all I'm good at is embarrassing myself? He groaned inwardly, scolding himself in his mind as his whole body tensed, not knowing how to react in front of the dominant fae.

Today was a fairly nice day, the crisp air fresh and soothing. Khalon was relaxing, letting himself lie in a patch of sunlight when he felt the mass of another wolf hit him. He jumped up a bit and looked towards the other wolf in alarm, having been surprised by being bumped into. As soon as he met eyes with his pack member, Akita, he let himself relax, his eyes becoming relaxed and the tenseness leaving his body. When the fae started to make a few awkward apologies Khalon felt a smile cross over his face, "No need to apologize Akita," he said and then paused, shooting her a lopsided, amused grin, "You can call me by my name you know. Friends don't call each other by their ranks do they?" he asked, sitting down and looking at the fae with a friendly smile. He and her had never officially been friends, but there was no doubt that he liked her. She was a sweetheart, and was definitely somebody that he got along with easily.

Aspen was very relaxed, the only movement she was making was the rise of fall of her chest as she breathed. but this didn't last very long. When the sound of crunching leaves sounded towards the forest, she lifted her head and perked her ears, her golden eyes wide with alarm. She gazed towards the sound nervously when the shape of a wolf made its way past the bushes and trees. oh no. Was he a pack wolf? Was he here to chase her away? She slowly got to her paws, ready to run off if he was there to establish his territory or something. When he asked who she was, she immediately became lost for words. Why wasn't he being hostile. She just watched him cautiously for a moment, waiting to catch any sign of hostility, but there was nothing. How strange. She let her tense stance settle a bit, but still remained wary of the brute, "Aspen" she stated, her voice coming out high pitched and filled with anxiety. That probably wasn't even the answer he was looking for. Just her name. Silly girl.. he wouldn't care about that, but she was lost for words. There had been very few situations where she had gotten this close to a pack wolf, as she was usually able to run off before they found where she was.

"-Do you see a problem in me being a mentor? I--"

...She couldn't help but draw in a sharp intake of air, her tail cackling somewhat as energy shot through her body...her hackles yanking upwards in surprise as she nearly launched herself directly at the brute... -Her very lips peeling back, revealing that white, pearly glisten of canines as a small snarl hiccuped deep at the pit of her throat- a brief, protective warning--
-Because-
Right-
There-
...She swore the rogue would attack Kain.
-She'd watched the tell-tale signs play out as the wolf immediately swung his massive head around-
Ears all pinned back and growl rippling deep within his muscular, sleek onx pelt-
The young pup cowering-
-And-
-And-
-And-

...
...Nothing.
...
~Nothing at all.

~...Huh.
~So the big bad wolf's pup friendly...

-Alue couldn't help but find her eyes blink almost astonishingly back at the brute...watching the loner relax almost sympathetically as he seemed to realize just what exactly had crashed onto his right paw...the line of his maw settling into an almost pleasant- easy-going smile... -Like an instructor or a teacher, a father...

~Didn't see that coming...
...
~Wow...

Her ears flickered, picking up the soft, open words, "-Watch your step, bud-" ...though she hardly believed it. The change of atmosphere had been almost like a light switch, her heart almost shooting into her throat just by the mere way he shrugged it off...so full of mature understanding...so cool and collected... -A personality any honest wolf would truly look up to- and a personality that was the complete opposite of what she'd grown to expect...
-How he somehow managed to throw her off gaurd like that...
-How he'd been able to be so cruel and then so gentle the next...
...
-She truly had no idea.

Swallowing, the tan fae carefully watched Kain's reaction. The young brute was a splitting image of his older brother, really...though Khalon was never skittish. The reminder of her beta sent a silent ache within her heart...knowing that if something were to ever happen to his sibling, he'd never be the same...

Narrowing her eyes slightly at the Kain's amusing apology as they were yanked back into the present...she finally dipped her head. -Her instincts were to continue with a sense of dominance- though the alpha paused for a moment, leaning in somewhat close to the loner's ear and whispering a soft, almost unheard "-Thankyou-" before pulling away again...dutifully assessing the three of them...

"...There's plenty of prey back towards camp, brute... -You can follow Kain, Permafrost and I back there, and then we'll take a look at what you can do,"

-She murmured softly, her fiery, yellow eyes knowingly flickering back to the ball of fluff struggling to hide in the further bushes... Permafrost had definetly been more stealthy than Kain, obviously...and perhaps over time she'd make a good...a good...

~Scout?
...Maybe.
~And the loner will just be a fighter?
...Or...
...Maybe even...
...even...
~Nope~
~Don't even try, Alue~
~It's a waste of your time~
