Winter had been long, maybe too long, but Cochise had managed to survive. The snow hardly made
him cold, he was already cold on the inside. Whatever warmth he once held died with his mate. The
memory brought a shiver to his frame that the weather could never cause. His thick winter coat would
soon be shed, but for now the wind blew through it with ease. The wind parted around his mass as if he
wasn't really there. It felt powerful like it wanted to carry him away, but it was not strong enough for
that in this state. Should it decide to whip up a random spring time tornado then he would have to be
worried, but there was no fear in him now. Even if that were to happen he might welcome the cold
embrace of death, it would put him out of his misery. His suffering was all silent though. At first glance
there was no obvious sign that this brute was incredibly unstable. He looked like anybody else, but if
one thing were to go wrong he could snap. He hated to think about that, but really how much more
pain could he take and what had he done to deserve it? He still mourned for his lost mate, but he
should have been able to let it go and slip into the past by now. A low growl rippled in his throat as he
walked in a randomly chosen direction unaware that he was heading towards the one thing he wanted
to avoid for the rest of his life. A pack. They had never ended in his favor so why would he bother
trying to join a new pack all over again? It would only end in disaster.
Dwelling on his misfortunes as he was currently would only put him in a deeper funk and he realized
this letting the sudden thought turns his mind towards more important matters. He now picked up the
scent that was all too familiar to him and stopped in his tracks when it became strong enough to make
him want to gag. Clearly he was at the border of some pack lands and that deeply disturbed him. He
should travel around them to keep going even though he had no destination in mind. Or he could stay
and spy on them because he had nothing better to do. No information would be used against them, but
really what did he have to lose? Ha, that was a funny question. He strode forward with slow but long
strides. He realized his scent would give him away if he made no effort to cover it up. This stopped
him before he went into deeper in the uncharted grounds and he sniffed around for a moment before
finding a good spot to role covering his body in dirt masking his scent with the smell of the terrain. He
got up from the dirt once he was satisfied with his work and wandered deeper into pack territory, his
brown pools looking for movement. He was crouched low as the scent of wolves got strong in his now
flaring nostrils. He must be nearing their main den site. He was well hidden in the darkness, the dirt
helping him to blend further. What a first impression he would make if he were to somehow be found.
He settled in a spot where he could see most of the camp, his gaze settling on the only wolf that was
currently around the camp. She was a thin little thing using some sort of rock as a shield against the
howling wind. He watched her curiously. What use was a wolf like that to a pack?
Granted the winter had been harsh and that no doubt lead to the state she was in now, but if she were
to remain to weak looking surely the pack would not let her stay? He had never known packs to keep
wolves that appeared weak, but the packs he had come across were hardly accepting. Not that he had
wanted to stay with any of them anyway after what he had been through, but still they could have
been a little more hospitable. All he had ever wanted to do was pass through them peacefully, but he
always ended up being chased out. Well maybe this pack was different. That didn't make him want to
join it by any means, but maybe he would watch them for awhile to see how they survived. To him it
seemed like most packs were the fend for yourself kind of pack, but maybe this one actually knew
how to take care of each other. That's what packs were supposed to do after all. Look after their own
and protect each other. He almost snorted, but that would give away his position. Staying silent he
internally sneered to himself. Whatever this pack was like, he was going to find out everything that
he could before moving on.
