Batpaw was pleased with the answer he received from his fellow apprentice. Duckpaw had continued purring for a bit, but the excitement dissipated, leaving behind a slightly bothered version of the usually overexcited Duckpaw once the 'emotions' from his words came to surface. Feeling naught but slight relief, Batpaw simply nodded to Duckpaw's reply, before turning towards Morningblaze. Whereas Duckpaw had picked up on his subtle cues of displeasure, Morningblaze hadn't. All the better But hearing Rookfang's comments made that tiny bit of relief dissipate as well. The deputy seemed rather agitated, and the morning was still relatively young. But, the leader's anger didn't seem directed toward him - it seemed directed towards another warrior, somehow he hardly knew. Making an effort to ignore the air of hostility around him - first Bramblepaw with some snide comment then some Mist-something mousebrain whom wasn't where he was supposed to be - Batpaw focused on the route they were supposed to take. After processing a mental image of the territory that he had memorized by feel alone, the ebony tom finally spoke. "Understood, Mistcloud," the tall tom mewed, his soft voice back to neutral, his rather lopsided 'smile' remaining although slightly smaller. Standing and stretching, Batpaw flexed his long, hooked claws as he awaited Morningblaze and Duckpaw's movement - he preferred to stay at the rear, for the movements of the group helped to guide him more than memories would.

Mistcloud flickered his ears to the sound of a crow flying away, obviously in a panic. Feathercloud must've made a catch - hopefully a plump one. Flickering his tail, the silver tom cat smiled a bit as his golden eyes came to rest on a rather plump mouse - it was gorging itself upon a cob nut about a taillength away from a bush. Bold move, little mouse, the lithe silver tom thought, lowering his body to the ground 'till his weight was even on all four paws. Creeping forth slowly, Mistcloud stopped when he was only two pawsteps away. But then, the wind shifted, and the mouse sat bolt upright as it detected his presence. Mousedung, the warrior cursed in his mind, even as he lunged. The mouse scuttled away and he landed harmlessly upon the ground. Shaking his head, Mistcloud narrowed his golden eyes. You missed, and easy one for Starclan's sake. 1-1 isn't going to work, Mistcloud. No wonder your apprentice is struggling with hunting. Someone whom struggles with it themselves cannot possibly teach another.
Feeling rather angry with himself, the silver tom remained in that stance for a bit longer, tail tip twitching as his golden eyes sought out more quarry. Instead they landed upon a cluster of white flowers. Mistcloud sniffed at them, quite sure they were yarrow, but it could be water hemlock - he was no medicine cat, he could hardly tell the difference. Knowing that Feathercloud was nearby due to the crow's hasty fleeing, the silver tom mewed out quietly "Feathercloud?"

Hawkclaw lay slumbering upon his nest, enjoy the dreams that visited him. Instead of dreams of a past that was worth hardly more than the moss in the elder's den, he dreamed of the near future. His clan blossoming, the apprentices acing their training, and of course, himself among it all, making it work. They couldn't do it without him, after all. When the next gathering rolls by, we'll be the strongest clan there... but then, the demanding voice of Rookfang threaded through his mind. For a second Hawkclaw just laid there, before blinking open his eyes drowsily. I may not have an apprentice, but when I prove myself time and time again, the opportunity will come - besides, the apprentice can benefit from my wonderful teachings. I am not sworn to any one, so I can divide my valuable time between pupils - they will thank me later. Shifting upon his bed, the balanced tom allowed a long yawn to escape his maw, before it dawned on him - he was late. Very late indeed, and Rookfang sounded agitated. Cycling through the sentence in his mind, the warrior realized that his irritation was owed to a warrior being late - Mistcloud - but also seemed a bit angry for that.
Regardless, Hawkclaw would soon find out what it was. Standing up and grooming his silky striped pelt clean of any debris, the warrior exited the den head held high, amber eyes alight with a very bright fire. "Good morning everyone," he yowled, his decently deep voice filled with shimmering energy that seemed foreign considering he was a tad late and tensions were high - even Hawkclaw could tell. But, he 'ignored' it. I'm on border patrol with Rookfang? This outta be interesting. "Hey Rookfang, what did I miss?" the tom said with a friendly yet annoying smirk, sidling up to his stoic deputy with no regret - although he knew he was risking a tongue lashing.

Badgerpaw shifted a bit, soft mews escaping his maw as he shifted within the apprentice den. Pain greeted stung at his body, over and over again, pain he'd never fully understand. And the desperate yowls, the metallic scents, the strange hulking creature that he was named for that seemed like nothing more than a distant elder's tail - and morning. Blinking open his jade eyes blearily, Badgerpaw inhaled, nearly missing what his father said. Nearly. Border patrols and hunting patrols were being called - cocking his head to the side, the large tom managed to make out a few of the words - one of them being his mentor being summoned on border patrol with his father and Hawkclaw. Heart rate increasing, the large apprentice stood and stretched, forcing himself to maintain balance - one of his little exercises to work with his ailment - before popping his head out of the den. One day soon I will accompany Rookfang and Dapplepelt - I can show dad and Dapplepelt how much I've improved, show them they won't have to worry about me. For now, I guess I can do some more balance exercises and check on Alderfoot, the pearl and black tom thought, a small smile playing at his maw.
Exiting the den fully now, Badgerpaw cast a longing glance at Dapplepelt, wanting to follow his mentor - but, he eventually turned his head away, narrowing his jade eyes against a slight breeze that swept through the camp. Balance exercise first - I guess I can go climbing, collect some moss while I"m out. I'll leave when the patrol does - wouldn't want dad to get upset. Licking a paw and swiping it across his face, the large tom waited patiently, hist tiny stub of a tail twitching slightly.
