Batpaw was pleased with the answer he received from his fellow apprentice. Duckpaw had continued purring for a bit, but the excitement dissipated, leaving behind a slightly bothered version of the usually overexcited Duckpaw once the 'emotions' from his words came to surface. Feeling naught but slight relief, Batpaw simply nodded to Duckpaw's reply, before turning towards Morningblaze. Whereas Duckpaw had picked up on his subtle cues of displeasure, Morningblaze hadn't. All the better But hearing Rookfang's comments made that tiny bit of relief dissipate as well. The deputy seemed rather agitated, and the morning was still relatively young. But, the leader's anger didn't seem directed toward him - it seemed directed towards another warrior, somehow he hardly knew. Making an effort to ignore the air of hostility around him - first Bramblepaw with some snide comment then some Mist-something mousebrain whom wasn't where he was supposed to be - Batpaw focused on the route they were supposed to take. After processing a mental image of the territory that he had memorized by feel alone, the ebony tom finally spoke. "Understood, Mistcloud," the tall tom mewed, his soft voice back to neutral, his rather lopsided 'smile' remaining although slightly smaller. Standing and stretching, Batpaw flexed his long, hooked claws as he awaited Morningblaze and Duckpaw's movement - he preferred to stay at the rear, for the movements of the group helped to guide him more than memories would.

Mistcloud flickered his ears to the sound of a crow flying away, obviously in a panic. Feathercloud must've made a catch - hopefully a plump one. Flickering his tail, the silver tom cat smiled a bit as his golden eyes came to rest on a rather plump mouse - it was gorging itself upon a cob nut about a taillength away from a bush. Bold move, little mouse, the lithe silver tom thought, lowering his body to the ground 'till his weight was even on all four paws. Creeping forth slowly, Mistcloud stopped when he was only two pawsteps away. But then, the wind shifted, and the mouse sat bolt upright as it detected his presence. Mousedung, the warrior cursed in his mind, even as he lunged. The mouse scuttled away and he landed harmlessly upon the ground. Shaking his head, Mistcloud narrowed his golden eyes. You missed, and easy one for Starclan's sake. 1-1 isn't going to work, Mistcloud. No wonder your apprentice is struggling with hunting. Someone whom struggles with it themselves cannot possibly teach another.

Feeling rather angry with himself, the silver tom remained in that stance for a bit longer, tail tip twitching as his golden eyes sought out more quarry. Instead they landed upon a cluster of white flowers. Mistcloud sniffed at them, quite sure they were yarrow, but it could be water hemlock - he was no medicine cat, he could hardly tell the difference. Knowing that Feathercloud was nearby due to the crow's hasty fleeing, the silver tom mewed out quietly "Feathercloud?"

Hawkclaw lay slumbering upon his nest, enjoy the dreams that visited him. Instead of dreams of a past that was worth hardly more than the moss in the elder's den, he dreamed of the near future. His clan blossoming, the apprentices acing their training, and of course, himself among it all, making it work. They couldn't do it without him, after all. When the next gathering rolls by, we'll be the strongest clan there... but then, the demanding voice of Rookfang threaded through his mind. For a second Hawkclaw just laid there, before blinking open his eyes drowsily. I may not have an apprentice, but when I prove myself time and time again, the opportunity will come - besides, the apprentice can benefit from my wonderful teachings. I am not sworn to any one, so I can divide my valuable time between pupils - they will thank me later. Shifting upon his bed, the balanced tom allowed a long yawn to escape his maw, before it dawned on him - he was late. Very late indeed, and Rookfang sounded agitated. Cycling through the sentence in his mind, the warrior realized that his irritation was owed to a warrior being late - Mistcloud - but also seemed a bit angry for that.

Regardless, Hawkclaw would soon find out what it was. Standing up and grooming his silky striped pelt clean of any debris, the warrior exited the den head held high, amber eyes alight with a very bright fire. "Good morning everyone," he yowled, his decently deep voice filled with shimmering energy that seemed foreign considering he was a tad late and tensions were high - even Hawkclaw could tell. But, he 'ignored' it. I'm on border patrol with Rookfang? This outta be interesting. "Hey Rookfang, what did I miss?" the tom said with a friendly yet annoying smirk, sidling up to his stoic deputy with no regret - although he knew he was risking a tongue lashing.

Badgerpaw shifted a bit, soft mews escaping his maw as he shifted within the apprentice den. Pain greeted stung at his body, over and over again, pain he'd never fully understand. And the desperate yowls, the metallic scents, the strange hulking creature that he was named for that seemed like nothing more than a distant elder's tail - and morning. Blinking open his jade eyes blearily, Badgerpaw inhaled, nearly missing what his father said. Nearly. Border patrols and hunting patrols were being called - cocking his head to the side, the large tom managed to make out a few of the words - one of them being his mentor being summoned on border patrol with his father and Hawkclaw. Heart rate increasing, the large apprentice stood and stretched, forcing himself to maintain balance - one of his little exercises to work with his ailment - before popping his head out of the den. One day soon I will accompany Rookfang and Dapplepelt - I can show dad and Dapplepelt how much I've improved, show them they won't have to worry about me. For now, I guess I can do some more balance exercises and check on Alderfoot, the pearl and black tom thought, a small smile playing at his maw.

Exiting the den fully now, Badgerpaw cast a longing glance at Dapplepelt, wanting to follow his mentor - but, he eventually turned his head away, narrowing his jade eyes against a slight breeze that swept through the camp. Balance exercise first - I guess I can go climbing, collect some moss while I"m out. I'll leave when the patrol does - wouldn't want dad to get upset. Licking a paw and swiping it across his face, the large tom waited patiently, hist tiny stub of a tail twitching slightly.

xxxxthe elder stopped at the streambanks and sat down on his haunches, admiring the river. he was never much of a swimmer and he particularly dislikes the taste of fish, but his favorite thing to do when he was younger was to daydream about his future while blissfully staring into the calm yet surging water. alderfoot held his paw less than a mouse length over the water and unsheathed his claws so that he was slicing through the water. after doing this for a few heartbeats, he set his head down on the sandy banks and shut his eyes. i just want to help them. he thought, listening to the trees around him rustle in the breeze as if speaking another language he didn't understand. why can't i help my clanmates? i just want to help protect them like larchnose did. alderfoot opened his eyes and looked up to the sky, the sun radiating at the edge of his vision. i just want to see her again.

kestrelpaw ∱ female ∱ tags // ashstar

kestrelpaw stepped back from her mentor, listening to his encouraging words quietly. she knew she had messed up somewhere. the way her paws had slid slightly when she pushed her paw down had told her so. the apprentice yelled herself internally for messing up something so simple.

right. that's where the apprentice had messed up. attempting to slam her mentor's head down when all she was meant to do was strike him. kestrelpaw pictured herself in battle, doing the wrong move the whole time whilst her enemy gave her strange looks. as ashstar's voice came ringing through her ears, she perked her ears and attempted to take in all the advice the tom gave her.

she was grateful for the advice the tom had, and was still, giving her. it would be hopeful in the future; especially against an enemy warrior. "would you like me to try again?" kestrelpaw looked up at her mentor, her gratefulness still present in her eyes. she believed she had it down now; ashstar had explained it in a way that had made sense in her mind.

blackheart ∲ male ∲ tags // mintflower

blackheart shook himself. the tom had just awoken, and he was still quite sleepy. as he sat, in the warriors' den, he noticed every cat was up and moving. he had no idea as to why he had slept in so late. the black tom was usually one of the first cats awake.

after blackheart had sat for just a bit longer, he got to his paws and padded outside of the warriors' den. the weather was nice; he noted to himself. leaf-bare may have passed but it's cool temperature seemed to have stayed around a bit longer. after discussing the weather with himself, blackheart noticed mintflower's sleeping body. he was surprised the she-cat wasn't on a patrol; he knew the female usually enjoyed helping the clan in any way possible. not wanting to be rude, but also wanting to speak to someone, the tom gently prodded the she-cat with his paw. "good morning mintflower." he purred. he may also question why she wasn't on a patrol while he was at it.

sparrowpaw // tom // twelve moons // mentor: rookfang // location: clan camp // tagged: swallowpaw

Sparrowpaw looked back at Swallowpaw as he turned around and stood facing her. His now stretched muscles felt relaxed and lenient. "Only once, about six moons ago," the apprentice started. "It was the beginning of my apprenticeship. I was arrogant and believed I could do anything. I tried to prove how brave I was by crossing into AspenClan territory. A few of the warriors, including their leader Hawkstar, chased me out. I escaped with no wounds. Very lucky." Sparrowpaw wavered his tail and slightly flattened his ears. "I don't quite recall why I chose to do it or what my goal was, but Rookfang was not impressed. I tried to argue with him, and ultimately, I lost." Sparrowpaw scrunched up his face in disgust. "I became snappy, and as a result, I was forced to clean moss beds and serve the elders for multiple suns." He lifted his shoulders in a shrug-like movement. He knew that he should have been punished far worse than he had been, and he thanked Rookfang for that. "Good things did come from it, though," he added.

Dapplepelt sat quiet and absent mindlessly. She was distracted by her own thoughts when she was pulled from them by the sound of words. She turned her head, only to see Rookfang and Bramblepaw arguing. She eyed them both quickly with a concerned gaze reflecting off her face. Dapplepelt stood to her feet when she saw the apprentice showing rather aggressive body attitude. Certainly the clan would not be happy if the soon-to-be-warrior started a fight with the deputy. She was ready to put a halt to everything when Bramplepaw walked off. She had to bite her tongue from saying anything to the apprentice as he walked by. Dapplepelt turned back to Rookfang and listened to him as he announced patrols. When she heard her name being called for patrol, the she-cat purred softly. She quite enjoyed going on patrols; it was a experience for her every time. She was slightly concerned for her apprentice, Badgerpaw, though. She was afraid what the young cat might do while he had a bit of time to himself. She pushed it off as she approached Rookfang. Dapplepelt stood next to him and dipped her head.

Ashstar was glad Kestrelpaw understood his instructions. Truthfully he worried he was not explaining the move properly. When she looked at him again he saw the grateful look in her eyes. There was such a large amount of thought in her expression that she looked like a warrior fully-grown. Such wisdom so young, he thought, wondering whom she inherited that from.

"Of coarse you should try again, that's why we're here." Ashstar said. He let his mind wander to gathering happening soon, hopefully AspenClan and MoorClan got along, he would hate to have to stand between the two fighting clans. "This will be the last bit of training for the day, we should be heading back soon." he said to Kestrelpaw as he waited for her to attack.

Swallowpaw listened intently to Sparrowpaw's story. She could imagine Sparrowpaw doing that, he used to be a slight bit irrational in his younger days apparently. Swallowpaw thought about how lucky he was to have not been injured. "It's extremely lucky you weren't harmed, if an AspenClan apprentice had crossed into our territory I'm sure they would not have been so lucky. Especially if Rookfang caught them." she said, imagining the scenario in her mind, an enemy intruder would definitely not leave their territory unscathed.

Hearing Mistcloud's voice, she snapped out of the little bubble of her own thoughts. She looked around quickly and picked up the crow, turning around and trotting back to him with bouncy steps while humming a melody. She attempted to smile while holding the big bird in her mouth and stopped in front of him, dropping it to the ground. "I caught this for you- I- um I mean I caught a crow! For the clan, for food!" she said and laughed nervously. Her cheeks grew warm and she felt embarrassed. Really Feathercloud? I caught this for you? This isn't a hunt with Sorrelpaw, focus!
She cleared her throat and tried to say something to forget about her tumbling tongue. "D-did you get the squirrel you bounced after?" Feathercloud asked and smiled, hoping he got something so they could return to the camp. She wanted to start the training, and to get some time with him in the creek. Just thinking about it made her heart beat faster, but she tried to stay on topic and to focus.

kestrelpaw nodded gently. the gathering is soon. he must be wondering about it. she quietly began to imagine the other clans. she had seen a few cats from the other clans before, but it was a simple meeting- nothing more than a nice conversation before being sent on their way.

ashstar's reminder about heading back to camp rang through kestrelpaw's mind. she needed to get the move down as soon as possible and with her mind running like it was, she wasn't making good progress. the apprentice stepped forward towards her mentor and got into position. she swiped down at the tom, hitting his head, with a good amount of force. she wasn't expecting to do too much to the tom, he was bigger than her, and he'd been through plenty of battles in his time.

"chickweed for greencough, watermint for a bellyache, yarrow for getting poison out of your system, tansy for a simple cough, goldenrod for loosening joints, marigold for infection, catmint for white and green cough and last of the list, some extra snake root for poison. it is a pretty long list, but it's mostly all necessary." he replied, stopping to sniff a patch of plants and flowers. "score! it's marigold! could you help me collect some owlpaw?" the calico tom grinned at the yellow plant happy that it was one less problem.

Rookfang dipped his head in return to Dapplepelt, who had just approached him. He respected the she-cat, although her pride in her ancestry sometimes bothered him. He supposed if he had a bloodline like hers he would probably be the same. "We'll go up the mountainside first, and swing by the border near the abandoned nest. Then we'll head down-" He told Dapplepelt, but Hawkclaw's words cut through his own. He sighed, knowing the warrior's teasing ways. He'd grown almost impervious to the tom's attitude, although Hawkclaw still got on his nerves sometimes. "Nothing important," he replied, his tone light. "Although you'd still do well to be up before the sun hits its zenith," he added, straining to keep a straight face as he teased the warrior, half jokingly, half in an attempt to get back at him for interrupting.

She wound her way through the thick, spiky grasses that protected the camp and then paced excitedly, waiting for the others to catch up. She gazed out at the sprawling valley, with its sparkling creek and the rich trees which were sprouting new leaves. Snow still covered the tip of the spire, and their own mountain still had snow at its heights. A frisson of excitement made her fur tingle. Come on, let's hunt! she urged Morningblaze and Batpaw mentally.

"How come you're up so late?" she asked, a smile playing on her muzzle. She had always know Blackheart to be an early riser.

When Rookfang had become occupied with the other warriors, Pebblestripe slipped across the camp to Bramblepaw. She was bristling with indignation that he would have much less time in the day to train with his punishment. "What did you do to get on Rookfang's bad side?" she asked by way of greeting. "There's hardly enough time to get your lazy rump to the stream to train without you having other commitments," she half laughed, although she couldn't hide her disappointment. It would take out a lot of opportunities for training and patrol experience.

Ashstar felt the blow. It was balanced, precise and wouldn't knock all the breath out of him. The main aspects of the movement were definitely correct, it was just fine-tuning the move that Kestrelpaw would have to work on now. "Better," he said, purring at his apprentice. "See how much easier it is to be precise when you're not trying to knock me unconscious." he said with a purr. "Now you just need to work on the finer details, like stance and posture. When you have that down pact, we will be doing something else," he said mischievously. After his apprentice had mastered the move against a non-resisting opponent, he would test her out when her opponent was actively moving and trying to attack her.
