brightpelt circled around owlpaw a couple times, admiring the tiny apprentice. "alright, well, we can go hunting them. I'll show you the proper way of hunting birds, a trick to make sure you get them before they fly away." he gave a proud smile at his apprentice. owlpaw was the first apprentice that brightpelt had ever had, so he of course, wasn't the best with him. brightpelt lacked the simple ways of being a mentor. things like making sure to wake your apprentice up on time, or making plans with other warriors to go on a patrol. he was sure owlpaw wanting things like that, and it made brightpelt doubt himself. he always felt like owlpaw wasn't receiving the best training he deserved. he gave a quiet sigh as he managed to escape from his thoughts, taking a step towards the exit of the camp. "alright owlpaw, let's go then, we shouldn't waste much more time if you want to catch a patrol when we're finished." he gave a nod to mintflower and exited the camp, checking behind his shoulder a couple times.

once out of the crowded camp, he inhaled a huge breath of cool air. the scents that greeted him once he was in the forest always brightened his mood. several crows and robins circled above, their feathers glistening in the sunlight. although he had already been outside the walls of the camp that morning, he felt like he hadn't been outside in moons. the scent of pine needles flooded his mind, bringing back fuzzy memories of when he was a kit. he glanced behind him, shaking the thought of his kithood away.

Rookfang was itching to say something vicious to the apprentice's retreating form, but he bit his tongue and simply flexed his claws irritably in the dirt for a few moments. The anger he felt towards Bramblepaw faded, and he looked sorrowfully after the apprentice. Whatever Rookfang might pretend, the comment had hurt him. He hoped Bramblepaw's rash challenge would be forgotten, or at least regretted by the tabby tom. The deputy had no desire to fight him, because he knew it might well divide the clan. He stepped away from the scene of the confrontation, moving a few paces into the shade of the tree above the leader's den.
Bramblepaw's reaction to his slight disciplining had reminded him how much he feared that in Badgerpaw. What if Badgerpaw began to feel as negatively to him as Bramblepaw did? It would break him as noting else had. With a sigh, Rookfang looked out over the valley, and then at the sky. "
Starclan, please, guide Bramblepaw where I can't," he whispered. As much as he riles me up... "Show him that violence isn't the right path to take."
Rookfang felt drained suddenly. But there were still patrols to organise among those that had not yet left camp. Stepping out into the centre of camp, Rookfang called to those cats who were not occupied. "
Dapplepelt! I want you to lead a border patrol, with Hawkclaw and myself. Morningblaze, if you're heading out, I'd like it if you hunted. Seeing as Mistcloud is not around," he said with a slight edge, "keep Duckpaw with you, if you don't mind. Sparrowpaw, we'll go out for battle training later."

Duckpaw purred strongly when Morningblaze answered, but Batpaw's stiff answer was enough to quell her excitement. Have I done something wrong? "Um, yeah, I'm fine with that. Maybe we'll find Mistcloud while we're down there, and then I can get out of your fur," she chuckled nervously. Clearly that was what Batpaw wanted, anyway. We should avoid Aspenclan's territory though, right?" she asked, looking firstly at Batpaw and then Morningblaze. She perked her ears at Rookfang's loud commands. Was she imagining it, or was that a slight on Mistcloud? Her loyalty to her mentor made the apprentice's fur bristle. Rookfang is being such a grumpy piece of mouse dung today.

Mintflower frowned at Brightpelt's words. "We're already out of Leaf-Bare; they shouldn't be worrying about it now," she said disapprovingly. She guessed the tension from the harsh months hadn't melted along with the snow. She purred at his enquiry. "It's been fine, thanks. I've been out for a walk already." She paused when Owlpaw trotted up. She listened politely as he spoke to Brightpelt, and nodded her head with a smile as they excused themselves. She gazed after the toms as they left, feeling slightly lonely. Rookfang's voice interrupted her thoughts. She sighed when she realised her name hadn't come up. She would have liked to be out and about right now, to at least have some company. Mintflower strode across the the warriors' den and settled herself in the shade of the entrance. She'd nap for a bit, and perhaps head out later. It was unfortunate that she didn't have an apprentice, but then, she was still very young and there were better, more experienced warriors to teach the young ones. She closed her eyes and drifted into a light sleep, her mind still whirling with thoughts.

Ashstar felt the blow his apprentice had dealt him. It had stunned him, barely, and her stance was not quite right. Seeing the irritated look in her eyes he purred at her. "Good try," he said, trying to reassure her. "Don't worry, hardly any apprentices get it right the first time," he paused. "I know it took me a while to perfectly execute it," he said.

The blow Kestrelpaw had tried to land on Ashstar would have been extremely effective, if only she hadn't missed. Her moment of hesitation to strike him had been her downfall. "Don't worry about hurting me." he said. At most, you would stun me. Unsheathing your claws is what really damages your opponent, for now try to focus on perfecting your stance. he suggested, demonstrating the positioning needed and correcting her posture. "Now, try again." he said, bracing himself for her next attack. Secretly, part of him hoped she would not be able to master it quickly, it had taken him nearly four sunrise to sundowns to learn the move.

owlpaw << six moons << tom << medicine cat apprentice << brightpelt << forest
    xx

xxowlpaw stepped out of the camp, allowing the fresh forest scents to flow through his stubby nostrils. he smiled backwards to brightpelt. he often came out with brightpelt to attend his simple medicine cat duties, and at this time he was doing an important one; collecting some herbs. it seemed as if they were running slightly low in stock, so it would be better to restock, even if leafbare was still far, or somewhat close. there was still plenty of time, however. the coming seasons were green leaf, leaf fall, and then the wretched leafbare. however, there was only two seasons, which were made of a couple months. they still had plenty of time to get more stock, but it was better to get it whenever the option was held upwards. he smiled back towards brightpelt, and soon let his gaze fix around his surroundings; his eyes wandered, and they weren't focused much on any certain target. he wanted to gather as much herbs as he could, because then one of his last tasks would most likely be sorting around the herbs, and then he could probably rest for a short minute. not for long, however. he was a medicine cat apprentice; he was important for the future, if he never got enough training, he wouldn't be able to become a medicine cat; and who knows if brightpelt would eventually die if he found some way to delay his training. however, it was unlikely. owlpaw took his training quite seriously, and brightpelt was a good, ripe, age. he wouldn't find anyway to become deceased for a long time, as long as they lay low, and didn't interfere in fighting; they would be fine.

xxhe let himself shake around in the forest air, until he forwarded back to his careful glances. he glanced back at brightpelt, soon questioning, " what do we need again? " he dug around, looking to see if there was any herbs that would pop a small tint of memory in his mind. most likely, he would have to ask brightpelt. he didn't have a good memory as of now, but he was sure he would gain one later on. he hoped the list wasn't too great; he was slightly tired, even though he just woke up; he wanted to play with the other apprentices, however. but it seemed some were in not much of a great mood, or currently training with their mentors. maybe he could stop by? well, he wasn't quite sure. he then remembered that they would go for a walk first, maybe they could stop by. it would be very fun, watching them train. it always gave him a slight reference to how he would act if something happened while he was doing his own duties, if some badger got in the den; or if there was some mass attack and even he and brightpelt would have to attempt fighting. however, that was unlikely; there wasn't much ruckus in the past moons; in his life. he then stopped his digging, soon spotting a small set of cobwebs attached to a tree. he shrugged, as he probably wouldn't be able to reach it. maybe he would be able to learn how to climb, just in case herbs were high up. he walked around, and let his eyes roll through the surroundings. they were so.. calming. kind of made him tired; but he pushed off the thought and then walked more, and it soon quickened into a run. it was only a small bound, however. he did not want to race ahead of his mentor.

papillion << seven moons << molly << loner << none, open << forest
    xx

xxpapillion shook around, hissing as her paws stormed on the ground. her prey was stolen! how could they? it smelled like fox, but none were around when she went to sleep! she made a mrrow of hatred. it sounded sweet, but really, she hated when this happened! it's like the fox would come out of nowhere! or it was some filthy rogue, smelling all like a fox, then stealing her prey! that would have been a great plan; and was really fool worthy. so that may have been it, but she didn't solve it yet. she wasn't on any sedge clan territory, it's not like she was interfering with their hunting! she only, merely, borrowed the two leg cabin when she needed a roof. dens aren't easy to find, you know! she thought to herself. you had to build them, you wouldn't just find one sitting right there, near unclaimed territory; she was actually far from the clans that took home near her former clan. the only area she tried to stay close to was any abandoned two leg nest. at times, she would switch one place to another, sometime staying under a tree; well, that was what she always did, unless it was raining, of course.

xxwhen she was angry, she often lost her sane thoughts, she would end up storming through territory, eventually to be scolded. if she did so one more time, she would probably end up having consequences. most of the time, she was just scolded at, but it happened several times. what if she stole some prey? that would show them., she thought. she hisses, and she continued trotting heavily off towards sedge clan territory. it would be hard to swoop in and grab a prey from the pile, but hunting would show them. well, to her. the prey was about three mouses, which seemed to be small. she wasn't really sure, the season brought a good amount of prey. she tried to mask herself, rubbing herself on any shrubs, and some trees. there was also the border line, which she squirmed around, too. she sniffed herself and hissed. sedgeclan cats smell disgusting! she hissed to herself. she could't believe she used to smell like them; she was just used to her own smell; the one she created.

xxshe glanced around, soon letting her nose get filled with the scent of prey. it was hard for her to sniff it out, with the sedge clan smell and what - not. she quietly hoped that she wasn't really disturbing, but she seemed to get the smell down; the cats wouldn't recognize her, unless they went face - to - face with her. she smelt movement, others were most likely around. she would hide for short intervals; that sounded good, she thought to herself. she made quiet steps; and let her small shape bend down underneath a large shrub. she let her nose do her guiding, and she walked around. instead of hunting multiple mice, she could probably find a rabbit; well, those weren't too common. maybe a blackbird. yeah, a blackbird sounded good. a mice, and a blackbird. yep, yep. she repeated it several times in her mind.

xxshe continued to walk around, searching for prey. she was actually going far with this, somewhat. she wasn't even sure if it was a fox, or if it was a sedge clan cat. this was pointless; it would get her in a mound of trouble.. but, she was hungry.. she hissed, soon shaking her head. but she hadn't had prey from sedge clan in quite a while; what if it tasted better? she then nodded to herself. " i will just grab one. one blackbird. that's all i ask. really ", she whispered to herself. she nodded to herself, and let her senses activate to their fullest points. she wanted a blackbird; that's all. hopefully it wasn't so hard, she hadn't had a blackbird specifically in a while, so it may taste better or worse. it was still something. the smell of other creatures flew through her nose; no blackbird just yet. she walked further, soon to make a few turns. a few new scents entered her nostrils, one being a blackbird. she gasped, it was filled with joy. she was excited to feel the taste of blackbird once more, she hadn't eaten it in the last moon. she took small steps; the blackbird was more close than she thought. she walked around, and the small image came to view.

xxshe had to keep small paces, and try to make sure her scent was more masked, as once a bird sensed her, it would most likely fly away. she glanced around, making sure no other felines were around. she felt that the scent closer, meaning that she probably got closer. she hoped she could quickly end the blackbird, swiftly so she couldn't get caught. she let herself blend in more, so the bird wouldn't be too startled. she walked slowly walked forward, and came into her crouch position; the bird was on the ground, pecking at seeds that appeared to be carried from a nearby plant. she slowly stalked it, and it seemed to move slightly; in quick moves. when she got the chance, she kicked up her haunches; and landed an inch to the bird. she reached out her claws, and pierced the bird's wings before it could make a move. it was still quick, however, and she dashed ahead, soon lunging into it, digging into its flesh. it struggled, and pecked at her face. she gave it one more killing bite, and then threw herself behind it's body. she groaned lightly, and her face ached. she lightly nibbled on it, picking out the feathers. she let herself lay there for a second, she waited quietly for the pain in her face to wear off. she glanced around. the smell of sedge clan cats got larger; she had to get up. the pain seemed to escalate to her legs. she got up, and walked around. she kept a quick pace, hoping no other cat found her.

kestrelpaw ∱ female ∱ tags // ashfoot

kestrelpaw sighed quietly as her mentor began telling her how it may take time to execute it. she wanted to learn it now. she wanted to show off to the other apprentice's that should could do something that they couldn't- although she wouldn't tell them that she could pull off the move herself. she'd simply hope that they'd have to watch her do it one day, and she'd have it down perfectly. it was rude to brag, she knew that. her father had taught her that, and once he died, she definitely took his small "life lessons" into play.

as ashfoot began telling her to not worry, kestrelpaw got prepared for the move. she watched her mentor do the position calmly. she quickly realized where she had messed up, too far over, and she had hesitated. after the tom finished, she got into position. the apprentice thought about what could happen if she did this wrong again, and what would happen if she did it right. it was common for her to take her time and go through her choices, her father had told her to take her time and define her problem and the outcomes of each choice. she knew cats got annoyed by this too- cats had showed their anger around her when she calmly took her time, but it didn't matter now; the only thing she cared about now was perfecting this move.

shaking her head lightly, kestrelpaw pulled her paw down quickly and forcefully once again, not hesitating this time. her paw slammed against ashfoot's head, and she quickly noticed she was over too far again, as her paw landed nearby his ear, but she had made more contact than last time.

Sparrowpaw saw Swallowpaw shrink down. He blinked hard as his mind realized that what he said was abrubt and rude. The tom considered apologizing, until the she started talking again. "You'll probably make up for it in no time. So, in other words, don't worry to much about it." Sparrowpaw turned back to Rookfang and Bramblepaw when she asked about them. His tail flicked as he gazed intensely in their direction. "I'm not sure. I would assume that Bramblepaw said something wrong or with a bad attitude. Rookfang is doesn't like to be disrespected." Sparrowpaw new this, for he had once believed he was more superior than his mentor. That was when he had just become a apprentice, though, and it never happened since then. Sparrowpaw sat in silence before is attention was caught by the voice of Rookfang. He looked over at the older cat just as he spoke his name. "Looks like neither of us are on patrol today," he stated. His eyes trailed back to Swallowpaw as he stood up and started to stretch.

Dapplepelt sat quiet and absent mindlessly. She was distracted by her own thoughts when she was pulled from them by the sound of words. She turned her head, only to see Rookfang and Bramblepaw arguing. She eyed them both quickly with a concerned gaze reflecting off her face. Dapplepelt stood to her feet when she saw the apprentice showing rather aggressive body attitude. Certainly the clan would not be happy if the soon-to-be-warrior started a fight with the deputy. She was ready to put a halt to everything when Bramplepaw walked off. She had to bite her tongue from saying anything to the apprentice as he walked by. Dapplepelt turned back to Rookfang and listened to him as he announced patrols. When she heard her name being called for patrol, the she-cat purred softly. She quite enjoyed going on patrols; it was a experience for her every time. She was slightly concerned for her apprentice, Badgerpaw, though. She was afraid what the young cat might do while he had a bit of time to himself. She pushed it off as she approached Rookfang. Dapplepelt stood next to him and dipped her head.

Amaury
[x] ▪ tom ▪ loner ▪ location: upper forest ▪ tagged: Papillion, ?
▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬
    "My chaton, please -"

"Shut it, toad face." Amaury's face was twisted in a scowl as he watched hurt flicker over his companion's handsome face, the one that he always prided himself in. Blood was currently trickling from it, tiny streams of red whose sources were several large cuts across his left cheek. Lower, on his left shoulder was a bite wound just starting to form a dark crimson crust. The chocolate brown tabby himself had scratches on his legs, but one could tell from the slight limp in the older tom that it was he that bore most of the injuries.

That stupid Francis. As they padded through the white slush, the looming evergreens towering over them to form a sort of winter tranquility - Amaury's mind was brought back to the event that had occurred just at dawn. Francis, who had obnoxiously curled up next to the younger tom before being pushed away, had awoken to the sound of scuffling and a strong scent that smelled of pure fox. Two adults and three kits. Knowing him he wouldn't have put more than a scratch on them in their scrawny state, so it was lucky I got back from hunting when I did. For his big mouth, he still hasn't gotten over 'it'.

It was Francis that snapped him out of the heavy silence.

"Amaury, I think I see a twoleg nest ahead. It looks abandoned." His voice had regained most of its former spirit, which was his signal to Amaury that what had happened was to be forgotten. Casting a look at him, Amaury hurried his pace and saw that he was right. A small, wooden shack rose as they crested the snowy hilltop, looking particularly out of place in the otherwise never ending forest. It was missing a door but would provide good protection against the chilly winds that accompanied the slowly rising sun.

"We can rest there for now," Amaury said with a hint of relief. Together they reached the wooden house. Amaury followed Francis inside, shaking his pelt free of snow. It was then that he smelled another foreign scent - this time, it was the faint scent of a cat.

Francis interrupted before he could utter a word. "I'll take care of them with my gorgeous charm," he mewed brightly.

"Your shoulder was gnawed on so you're not taking care of anything, toad," Amaury snapped. Francis sighed, but he continued, "I'm going to get herbs and hunt a little. Meanwhile you stay put. Or get some leaves for a nest, just don't go anywhere within twenty tail lengths of here."

And with that, he slipped out the den in search of herbs. Marigold, or stinging nettle would be best. But after a long while and no sign of them, a new and pungent scent wafted into the air. Not wafted. It was everywhere, underlying the sharp evergreen tang. Amaury stopped short. Don't tell me this is where the 'fierce wild cats' are. If so, the rumors were right. And he was in trouble. Nevertheless, Amaury gritted his teeth rubbed himself against the plants slathered in the scent and the snow. He hoped that was enough.

Still, from there on he slunk among the sparse bushes, keeping low to the ground. Herbs were so hard to find in the mountain at this time of year, yet if only the forest had some nettle - There. Hanging on a low branch, was the dangling tendrils of nettle. At last! It felt like he had been trekking through snow for hours. Quickly Amaury cut off multiple stalks as to not sting himself, when suddenly he heard movement. His eyes widened, and immediately he shrunk down behind the bush. What was this? He did not think the cat had noticed him, but he wasn't sure. Through the gaps in the branches he could see a small brown cat walking rather quickly away from something. Bloody... Well, its more of a 'fierce wild kitten'. But I have a bad feeling about this. I wasn't attentive enough, and I need to get back now.

When Amaury padded out, Francis knew he couldn't stop him. "That gosse didn't pick up any of my charm, hmm," he mewed wryly once he was gone. He did not want to dwell on it. Instead, the tom pressed some snow on his burning wound and set out to the task that would distract himself - that was, to gather and leaves and moss. As he made his way back the way they'd come - full of moss and trees but not much else - he had the nagging feeling that he was forgetting something important. He better not get himself into trouble. He attracts bad luck more than anyone should. He picked up his speed, grabbing as much moss and needles as he could carry, before returning to the twoleg nest to spread them into a single, large soft nest.

brightpelt inhaled more air and began padding along, admiring the forest. he looked back at his small apprentice, twitching his ears. he quickly thought over what he would need. chickweed, watermint, yarrow, tansy, goldenrod, marigold, catmint and some extra snake root. he perked his ears at what his apprentice had asked, quickly repeating what he had thought. "chickweed for greencough, watermint for a bellyache, yarrow for getting poison out of your system, tansy for a simple cough, goldenrod for loosening joints, marigold for infection, catmint for white and green cough and last of the list, some extra snake root for poison. it is a pretty long list, but it's mostly all necessary." he replied, stopping to sniff a patch of plants and flowers. "score! it's marigold! could you help me collect some owlpaw?" the calico tom grinned at the yellow plant happy that it was one less problem.

Ashstar felt the blow echo throughout his upper body. Kestrelpaw definitely had a good amount of strength when it came to battling. However, in a true battle, it would never be this easy, your opponent would never wait for you to attack unless they were stupid. "Better, he said, pausing to regain his composure. "I'm sure you will be able to do it perfectly in no time." he encouraged. Now was Ashstar's least favourite part, offering helpful feedback. Whenever Ashstar did that, he tended to sound ruder than intended, and had disheartened a few apprentices in his time.

"Try not to slam your paw into my head, this is a strike, not a blow. In battle your claws would be unsheathed, if you struck an opponent like that with your claws you could injure yourself more than the enemy. he started. "This time, focus on striking me in the right area, the centre of my head, closer to my face than my neck. Concentrate, use all of the willpower I know you have to land the blow properly. Ashstar finished, looking at Kestrelpaw

Swallowpaw was somewhat upset about not being chosen for patrol, not that she showed it. There will be other opportunities, she thought to herself. Swallowpaw thought back on Sparrowpaw's words. "Have you ever gotten on Rookfang's bad side? You sound like you speak from prior experience." she enquired, eager to know more about Rookfang in case she ever crossed him. Swallowpaw always tended to overthink problems, meaning she would gather unnecessary information on a subject before ever acting. She wanted to know about how Rookfang reacted to disrespectful apprentices, in case she ever annoyed him.
