----STONEPAW----
Stonepaw trailed after the scent, careful of where he placed his paws; not wanting to scare the vole. The lanky grey pelted tom slowed down as the scent grew stronger, moving into a crowd Stonepaw slinked forward. He let all the hunting training session tips run through his mind, he didn't want to mess up this kill. Stonepaw was dead set on passing this assessment, he wanted to become a warrior more than anything. Soon enough Stonepaw spotted the vole, perched on the root of a tree. The small creature too busy cleaning itself to notice Stonepaw only a few fox-lengths away. His amber eyes focused on the vole as he checked his position, he was downwind. It was safe to move in.
Slowly and steadily the tom moved forward, weaving through the shrubs, careful not to brush against the leaves. His paw steps were silent, his breathing slowed down as he tried to calm himself. He couldn't mess this up. Stonepaw's body relaxed for a brief second as he shifted his weight, leaning back onto his hind legs. He moved, launching forward with a sudden burst of speed, the vole barely had time to move as his teeth snagged the small creatures back. With a minimal amount of struggle Stonepaw sunk his teeth in and soon enough the creature went still. He had made his first successful kill. Stonepaw held the vole in his jaws, pride radiating off of him as he moved over to a shrub and hid the vole underneath it. He planned to come back for it, after he had caught a few more pieces of prey.

Honeydawn
{ warrior } - { she-cat } - { thirty moons } - { tags :: stonepaw } - { apprentice :: stonepaw }

Honeydawn watches her apprentice make the kill, a smile going across the she-cat's honey colored maw. When he buried the vole, it was a clear sign that the tom apprentice was going for more. She slinks through the shadows once more, the occasional flash of her pelt from the sun streaming through breaks in the dense parts of the trees. She didn't dare make s noise- stonepaw knew she was watching him, but he didn't know where she was. That, and she didn't want to scare any potential prey. While he was hunting, Honeydawn flicks her tail and stands up, padding away quickly, though not silently. She wanted to hunt herself so they could bring back twice the prey. Scenting the air, the young warrior crouches, skulking though the leafy foliage to find the musky scent of a mouse. She smiles, straightening herself- checking down wind, making sure she had a clear view of the prey, checking there wasn't any twigs, the whole hunting strategy. Honeydawn suddenly launches herself, erupting from the fern bush like a frightened bird. She landed squarely on the small greyish brown rodent. When she knew it was dead, it was buried in the dirt where she made score marks on the bark of the small, yet fully grown oak tree.

      NETTLESTEP
        [ Oceanclan warrior Tom 28 moonsShadowpaw's mentorNo crush/mate ]

Nettlestep hung back while Shadowpaw went ahead, his green gaze trailing after her and observing her movements carefully. They were already downwind, which made things a little easier for the apprentice. Momentarily, Nettlestep wondered if he should've made things a tad more difficult by changing their direction and make them upwind beforehand, but he knew Shadowpaw was intelligent enough to know she'd have to reorient herself accordingly in order to sneak up on prey undetected. Though he may not express it often, the dark furred tom had a lot of confidence in her abilities.

With slow, cautiously placed paws, Nettlestep walked forward to get a closer look. He weaved around shrubs and stepped over twigs that would snap under the pressure of his weight, careful to avoid anything that would announce his presence and scare off the dark brown mouse Shadowpaw was focusing on. Stealth was one of the dark tabby cat's strong points. His tall yet sinewy build allowed him to move smoothly and quietly with gliding steps, his short fur useful for it didn't easily get snagged on burrs or prickles if he was careful enough to avoid them. Even his fur aided in camouflage, its dark shades of brown and grey blending in with the tree bark and the patches of darkness that the sunlight didn't reach as it filtered through the green foliage above and dappled the forest floor. At the moment, he was slinking behind a log, which, if his senses were correct, Shadowpaw should be not far on the other side of. Lifting his snout slightly, he scented the air, making sure the scents of his apprentice and her prey were still being carried towards him and not the other way around. It'd be awfully embarrassing to scare away her catch now, wouldn't it? He thought to himself. Pausing when he reached the edge of the log, Nettlestep peered around it, the greenish-yellow coloration of his adder-like gaze landing on the mottled coat of Shadowpaw a heartbeat later. He was satisfied with his position, seeing as he could now evaluate her clearly without getting in the way. His scent wouldn't interfere, though there was a possibility she'd see him. But she was focused on almost the opposite direction, so unless she turned around and looked for him, he didn't think it was likely.

Willowlight
33 Moons
Warrior
Mentoring Sorrowpaw
Crushing on Briarstar
Speaking to Sorrowpaw

It was not until Sorrowpaw so hastily rephrased her words that it occurred to Willowlight that one might be offended by the way she had chosen to speak her mind the first time.
"It's alright. I know what you meant.", she assured her apprentice truthfully.
Then, she fell silent. The faint sound of nibbling rodent teeth had caught her attention, and it seemed Sorrowpaw had noticed it as well. A squirrel was perched on the exposed root of a tree as it sat back on its haunches and ate what could have been a nut or seed of some sort. It was difficult to tell from this distance, but it hardly mattered. The squirrel was what the cats were after, not it's breakfast.
Willowlight chose to hang back, carefully lowering herself into an inconspicuous crouch so that she could watch her apprentice without interfering with the hunt. It was an excellent opportunity to see how Sorrowpaw's training was coming along.
The corners of her mouth slid upwards in a slightly smile of appreciation at Sorrowpaw's technique. Her posture was excellent, and her pawsteps inaudible. So far, so good. Willowlight's heart beat a little faster as she rooted for success in her mind.

⇉ SHADOWPAW
------ { apprentice } { 11 moons } { she-cat } ⇇
━━━━━ ━━━━━

She did not see her mentor as he melted away into the shrubbery and she did not hear him either. He was a complete part of the forest, but she was a shadow, stealthy and sly, not quite part of the forest and her own being, but nonetheless deadly when her numerous prey items were faced with her appearance. Setting down her front left paw, the apprentice paused, crouch perfectly straight and balanced, as the brown rodent raised it's head, large ears pricked. Her breath was held within her mouth cavity and her long tail hung still as she stared, waiting. Eventually the mouse returned to it's feeding having not spotted any danger but the young she-cat knew that she could not breath yet. Unaware of her tutor's budding gaze set on her body instead of that of her prey's, Shadowpaw slowly moved her ears backwards so they pinned against her skull and lowered her weight.

The energy slowly built up in her sinews and she let it do so, until it felt right. With an explosive leap, Shadowpaw sprung through the still air and hooked the tiny animal with a paw. It thudded into a thick tree root and she was on top of it in seconds, fangs buried deep within the back of the neck and snapping the vertebrae with ease. Standing upright and quite proud of her successful, silent hunt, she turned and spotted a prickly holly bush in which to burry it under. The spiky leaves would protect the fresh-kill from being stolen by a fox. Soon a shallow pit was dug and filled in after the mouse had been placed inside. She would come back later.

He continued to watch Jaysplash with some concern in his pale yellow eyes. Something was up with the cat despite him being so young. Briarstar initial thought was to find out before they lost a good warrior, and this patrol would give him a chance to do so. The others had already returned and with them had come a decent sized catch. Walking towards Jaysplash Briarstar took the lead and padded head into the forest. He waited sometime before finally stopping momentarily, he gave a brief look at Jaysplash before continuing at a leisurely pace. "You're out of sorts, why?" He asked, his usual bluntness taking part to have him get straight to the point. Briarstar trusted Jaysplash would be truthful with him, that the tom wouldn't lie. Anyone could see straight through that trouble lining the tom's eyes and it was his duty as leader to ensure the safety of the clan. Even a single cat. The tom didn't concern himself with stepping quietly although hunter's instinct caused him to walk softly anyways. It was a nice day to be out.

Sorrowpaw narrowed her eyes, creeping closer to the squirrel. She hoped she wouldn't mess up because it was such a good chance to impress Willowlight and it could mean that she would be another small step closer to becoming a warrior. She suddenly leapt forwards, managing to land on it perfectly and kill it with a quick bite. Sorrowpaw stood there for a moment, just staring down at it. She was honestly quite stunned, as this was perhaps the best catch she'd ever gotten. The apprentice glanced at her mentor quickly, her eyes slightly round before she quickly buried it to come back for it later. "I can't believe I just caught it!" Sorrowpaw exclaimed, staring at Willowlight in wonder while she padded back towards her. She swished her tail happily as she waited for her mentor to talk. She hoped the rest of the day would turn out to be just as great as the start.
