Vairen knew Astra had a reputation to uphold. That was why she was so confused. Normally, a wolf like Astra would waste none of their precious time on something like speaking to the lowliest member of the pack, the omega who was basically useless. She was the beta; surely she had better things to do. But yet here she was, asking questions of Vairen, who saw it as practically an interrogation, though it was most certainly not to that level, just the way the timid fae pictured it in her mind. Of course she noticed that Astra did not release her from her position of submission on the cool ground of the pack's base, but once again, that was only because of her status that she was determined to keep, again raising questions as to why the beta was there speaking to her at all.➽ ᴏᴍᴇɢᴀ ᴏғ ʏᴇʀɪᴢʜᴀɴ

Astra seemed to be treated Vairen with an unusual amount of patience, oddly. Even the omega knew her answer had practically been useless- she was not stupid in that regard- but the midnight-black seemed to rebound quickly and yet still continued to inquire about other high ranking wolves' whereabouts, questions Vairen simply didn't have answers to. Either they were still asleep or Chase and Brutess had beaten her up and made their way out of the camp before she had crawled out of her den. The rusty fae finally just shook her head meekly and replied with a simple, "N-no," her stutter pronounced in even that one simple word, only one fast syllable. It hardly mattered; Astra's attention had been drawn away from the omega by then. Peering around her, Vairen attempted to discreetly catch a glimpse of who it was the coal colored fae had been distracted by.
Jericho.
Of course it had to be him, of all wolves in the Yerizhan pack. Him. Vairen just wanted to slink away with her tail between her legs before Astra called him over to speak to her. It would surely be soon, as the beta would like that better than a pathetic omega as her only option to attempt to have a conversation with. But if it did happen, Vairen would be a disaster.
Jericho was everything she was not. He was fast and strong, smooth-talking and bold, and most importantly, whole. Vairen admired him, but only from afar; she was much to nervous to speak with him. Besides, he was the Zeta and she was nothing more than an omega. There was no way he'd ever notice her, or look past her stutter and limp.
Thus, Vairen had written off her dreams and tried very hard to avoid Jericho whenever possible. So far, she'd been relatively successful. Hopefully Astra would dismiss her and allow her to disappear and keep up that streak.
