Minsi opened her green eyes to a bunch of white sitting right outside her den. She had to blink twice to make sure she wasn’t hallucinating. When she realized it wasn’t just her imagination, she let out a loud bark of joy. She was up on her paws in a flash, and then stuck her grey shaded head outside the ground den. Minsi looked around in awe at the magical white snow, wondering how long it had been snowing. Minsi couldn’t wait to go exploring since she had nothing else better to do. She took a deep breath of air, then proceeded to step out into the cold winter snow.
The second all four paws were planted firmly in the snow, she felt her body heat turn cold. Running around her den five times fast would surely warm her up. Minsi took off running, on the third lap her heart was pumping and her blood flowing. After the fifth and final turn, Minsi came to a skidding stop, making snow fly up. She let out a long, deep, beautiful howl loving the way it seemed to echo around the meadow. Her eyes searched the white meadow for any glimpse of a living thing. All she saw was snow and more snow. A heavy sad sigh escaped Minsi’s lips. It was pretty lonely around here. The last time she had even talked to one of her kind was maybe five moons or more. Minsi scuffed the powdery snow with her paw in frustration. Why have a snow day if you have no one to share it with?
Minsi growled in disgust to herself, while starting to walk over to the little creek that ran through the meadow. She closed her eyes as she lowered her head to take a nice refreshing…drink? Minsi’s eyes snapped open when all her tongue felt was something hard. Her eyes glanced down to see the frozen solid creek. Her tongue seemed to be stuck solid to the ice. “Yis an ot e hahaning!” (Translation; “This can not be happening!”) She managed to say with her tongue still locked to the ice. Minsi tried to pull her tongue off the ice but she just felt pain. No matter what she tried nothing happened. A small whimper came from Minsi. She did not want to lose her tongue. That very well might just happen. Minsi’s tongue was turning numb. Not a good sign at all! She tried her best to breathe warm air on her tongue but nothing could help release her tongue. It was hopeless. She might lay there all winter and that was something she was not looking forward to.
Then the thought of predators and other wolves crossed her mind. She did not want to become a cougar's snack. And she wasn't too excited about having to defend herself with her head down. Man was her situation embarrassing. She could just picture it now. A stupid loner/rogue brute comes along sees her predicament, then decides to move into her den as he watches her freeze to death. Perfect! Just Perfect! I sorrowful moan came from her throat. Could things get any worse? She was still really thirsty, now that she thought about it.
