Looking up, Coalfur returned Crowfoot's warm smile, listening as she assigned him to a patrol. "Of course," she replied, rising to her paws and looking around. Snowdrift, Tumblestep and Smokepaw wasn't a bad selection for a border patrol, in the dark she-cat's opinion. All were extremely intelligent and observant felines, which meant that they would do perfectly fine in spotting any anomalies. Rising to her feet, the dark she-cat made her way over to where she saw Smokepaw and Snowdrift conversing, clearing her throat before she spoke. "Apologies for interrupting you two," Coalfur spoke, twitching her tail. "But Crowfoot wanted you two and Tumblestep to come with me on a quick border patrol," The she-cat turned her head to hear Dawnstar speaking, and she nodded. The leader had it rather difficult. After all, many cats were looking for her to account for the recent losses of warriors, and the ash appearing everywhere. The thought made Coalfur bristle, but she shook the thoughts away, looking to Snowdrift and Smokepaw.

Smokepaw closed his eyes, taking in a few quick breaths, before jolting in surprise when something prodded his flank. "Oh, good-morning, Snowdrift," he greeted pleasantly, the grey tom flicking his ears in response. Upon his mentor asking if he slept well, the tom inwardly groaned. There was no point in being dishonest with his mentor; he would get told off for lying, as well as going out of camp without another cat. "Honestly? No, I did not. But I have not slept decently for a very long time, to be quite honest with you." He opened his mouth to speak again, before the apprentice was cut off by Coalfur, who explained that they were to go on a border patrol. "Well, I'll go and wake Tumblestep, then," Smokepaw chimed in, rising to his paws and nodding to both his mentor and the dark she-cat, before slipping back into the den, which warriors and apprentices shared.
The ginger tom was far from difficult to find, he tended to sleep near the back of the den, from memory. Padding over, Smokepaw peered over the warrior, who was asleep in his nest. "Tumblestep," he murmured, prodding the tom with a paw in his side. "Crowfoot wants you to come on a border patrol. Up ya hop."

Something being dropped next to his nest woke the tom, Wolfspeckle opening his eyes and looking around, catching glimpse of a vole next to his nest. Ah, Ravenpaw must have gotten it for him. Rising to his feet, the tom shook out his pelt, yawning and blinking a few times to wake himself up. Where was his apprentice, anyway? It hadn't been too long ago that Wolfspeckle had actually become the full Medicine Cat, upon the death of his mentor, Beetlefoot. Wolfspeckle sighed at the thought, climbing out of his nest, and picking up the vole. Ravenpaw would be his first apprentice, and it was only two days ago that the young tom had been sent to become a medicine cat, and Wolfspeckle was awfully nervous. How was he supposed to teach a blind cat how to sort herbs, and where they were to go? Sure, he'd give it a shot, but he wasn't completely sure that he'd succeed. Wolfspeckle padded out of the den, the thoughts clouding his mind as he found his apprentice, and padded over.
"Hello Ravenpaw," Wolfspeckle greeted pleasantly. "Thank-you for my vole, I appreciate it." The Medicine cat placed the vole down, before sitting, and looking at the tom. "So, we need to go and fetch a few things, today. I was thinking we might go with one of the patrols, and get them. Does that sound good?"

The stocky tom's green gaze pierced the ash as he growled under his breath, trudging along the forest floor. Once again, his friend had been unable to provide him with the food he wanted, but Dark didn't blame the poor tom. It was hard being a Medicine Cat, and keeping your loyalties to the clan, as well as looking after someone that gave you information from the outside. So far, the two of them had been unable to meet, mainly because cats from his clan weren't allowed to leave the camp alone, and if the two were caught, they may have gotten into trouble. It wasn't that they were conspiring against the clan or anything, it was just that the two wanted to work out where the ash was coming from, and sharing information was always the way.
A figure raced past him, and Dark's gaze followed a lithe feline darting further into the forest. They seemed to be chasing something; but it was none of his business to pry. But, he was indeed curious. So, the tom followed the fresh scent trail at a brisk trot, scanning the area for any possible threats, but thus far, there were none. He came to a stop, noticing the feline had stopped in her tracks, clearly oblivious to the scent markings that they had passed. Or, perhaps they simply did not care. But Dark was not an uncaring feline, and it was always nice to make sure.
"Hey, ya might wanna be careful there," he spoke, flicking his tail. "That land yer own is clan territory, and they don't take too nicely to strangers, y'know."
