Saphira nearly choked on a pine needle. Sticky sap oozed onto her throat and slowly dripped across its surface. She swallowed and tried harping up the thick liquid and stuck firmly onto her throat. "Ugh... gross." She muttered as she clutched her throat and coughed again. "Yea, I guess Conny did die." She silently hit herself on the head again. Why did she have to do so dumb? She cleared her throat again and finally got the sap off. "If I have to eat something sweet again, it'll be too soon." She looked out the hallow and cocked her head, listening. Barn owls had extraordinary hearing senses, after all. She heard the soft beating of a mouse heart, and the scrape of little feet as they scurried over tree roots. She took off her satchel and swooped down, her plumes silently catching the morning breezes. Morning breezes? Oh. It's daytime. Great. And of course there are a bajillion crows in the Beyond. She caught sight of a small gray shape skittering around and nibbling on small nuts. There we go.
She swooped down further and caught the mouse, killing it with her outstretched talons. She relaxed and flapped her wings as hard as she could, escaping the pine forests and the snow as she went higher and higher.
