By now, Palepaw had ignored the conversation going on with the three cats walking behind her. She was currently focused on the vast body of water in front of her, mostly covered in a sheet of chilling ice. The apprentice was quiet, passive, and had no desire to be a warrior at all. Yet going somewhere that no others felt comfortable going was an interesting mystery for Palepaw, and she felt compelled to go farther then others.

Stepping upon the ice, she frowned at the piercing cold that was exposed to her paw pads. She put pressure on that paw and noticed how there was no cracks. It seemed that the pieces of ice, closest to land, where thick. Stepping onto the lake slowly, she took a few steps forward and looked below into the water under the pale white solid mass. She could make out the swimming forms of fish below, and there was so many of them! It made her belly rumble just to think of it. As she came closer to the center of the lake, the faint sound of crackling made it's way to her ears. "It's thin here." She observed, testing out different amounts of weight to see how much it would damange the ice.

Troutstream sat beside Whisperwillow beneath a shady overhang. "Rabbits are the hardest to catch, but by far the most worth it." He meowed. "They taste fantastic." He thought back to all the times he caught rabbits as an apprentice, and all the thrills of the chases came rushing back to him. "And in hindsight, it was lots of fun."

~ Amberpaw ~

Amberpaw sat just outside camp, staring at the mountains and the sky beyond, contemplating the wonders that lay behind. "One day..." She whispered. "One day I'll venture beyond the borders. One day I'll climb the mountains and see the world." The end of her fluffy ginger and white tail flicked, and her ear twitched as she heard a bird chirp somewhere in the trees nearby.

Whisperwillow shook her head doubtfully. "I prefer robins. They taste just as good as rabbits do, and in my opinion, perhaps even better." She murmured, chuckling as he talked of his rabbit-hunting experiences. "You have the body for it, I admit. I'm more of a bird catcher."

Cloudpaw watched Palepaw carefully, while surveying the ice for any signs of weakness. "Do you believe that we can all make it without falling in?" He turned to look at Snowpaw to try and see what she was feeling. He did not detect anything and he huffed in disappointment and nervousness. His tail swishe back and forth as he tried hard to put his feelings behind him. He wondered if he was the only cat who was actually worried about this "adventure." "If Palepaw says its okay, Brokenpaw should go next. He seems eager to get out there.."

Snowpaw looked fearful. "Be careful Palepaw!" she said, and stepped closer. "Cloudpaw, if I go, will you?" she asked, hoping to have somebody to go with her. Cloudpaw seemed just as concerned as her, and she started pacing. "I mean, only if you want ti. Its not like Im scared or anything." she said, and her ears where slightly drooping, as her tail was. She stopped, and looked at Cloudpaw. "Cloudpaw?" she asked.

Frostpool nodded. "Good choice. Don't worry though, this isn't a proper assessment. All I want to know is how you're progressing so far." She gave him a reassuring smile and stepped back with a twitch of her tail, watching him quietly. Not wanting to ruin this for him, she kept still and alert, swiftly surveying the icy forest around them. She pondered his choice. Snow hares were hard to spot in the blinding white, but they made a great kill. If he did manage to catch one, it was certainly something to be proud of.
