The tiger-striped tomcat smiled at Bramble, avoiding Bird's gaze, and then wriggled his long spine in excitement. Without a word, he launched himself up the tree, his long history of trees helping him to feel at ease in the high place. Suddenly, he remembered the tree and kicked out just in time, the pads on his paws scraping against the rough bark; then he was falling, backwards. With superb force of mind, he flipped himself round and managed to land heavily but upright on the sandy ground. He winced; his laws had lost some of their skin, but other than that he was okay.

Bird winced as she detected the harshness in her mentor's voice, noticing that Oak had avoided the question, and attempted the move. Her thin tail curled inbetween her legs as her ears now lay flat on her head. Slowly she made her way over to Red, and looked scarecly up at her mentor. She knew she was slacking off since Oak was with them. Shaking her head she had made a silent vow to herself, and decided that like a responsible cat she would talk to Red about her poor behavior during training. "Red, if you'll let me I'll practice the move, with your help." She meowed softly, avoiding looking at Oak as he attempted the move. Right now Bird wanted to gain her mentor's pride and respect, not his disappointment.

Pumpkin watched as Red demonstrated the move, and then Oak attempt it right afterwards. But what had made the warrior flinch was a wince, from Oak. Rushing over to the high prince, she had noticed the skin was missing from his legs. She exchanged a worried glance over to Red before curling her fluffy tail around the young tom. "Oak, I think that's enough for today. We'll have to get you checkedout by Petal. If you'd like I could take you back to the camp quick and you could socialize with Spice and Sylvester if they're still in the camp." She suggested in a soft, calming and warm voice. The she-cat knew she had always wanted kits, but filled her mind with the idea that she would never have a litter of her own.

Red flicks his tail, watching the tom as he scrapes his paws, but manages to land the kick. "Good job, tom." He says, padding to the high-prince. "But, remember you are trying to go high- make the enemy confused. There aren't many fast moving enemies, so it'll be easy to confuse them. Badgers aren't fast, and foxes are easy to confuse with this move." He says, speaking to everyone. Red nods to Pumpkin, "Go ahead and bring him back. Bramble will just be practicing the move with Bird, and I promise I won't have any other lessons before you come back." He murmurs, flicking his ears. "Now Bird, you can't be talking an distracting others while I'm trying to teach." He mutters to his apprentice, flicking his tail to Bramble, motioning for her to come over. "Now, watch closely." He says to both of them, dragging a big branch over in front of him, though not too big since the apprentice would practice as if that were the enemy, so Red could catch them if they failed. He leaps over the giant branch easily, sinking his claws into the bark, releasing them just as quick and rebounding off, flipping once more as he lands on all four. "Ready to try it?" He asks them, glancing from Bird to Pumpkin, "Who wants to go first?" He asks.

Oak's fur fluffed up in indignance. "No! I'm fine. I don't need to go back; I just scraped my paws." He licked the pad, fighting the flinch as the tongue rasped his skinless pawpad. Oak frowned at Pumpkin, shifting away from her tail. "I know you mean well, but I'm fine. Honestly." He looked around desperately, his eyes fixing on his oldest friend. "Bird? Tell them. I've been hurt worse than this when we were playing!"

Bird watched her mentor carefully as he repeated the technique. As she tried to replay it in her head she heard Oak's protest, and her ears flattened on her head when he had tried bringing her into it. Squeezing her eyes closed briefly, as if to think of what to do, she looked over her shoulder at Oak and Pumpkin, heaving a sigh out from her jaw she looked up at her mentor before speaking. "He'll be fine...let Pumpkin train Bramble and Oak...they'll work well together. I just need to focus on my training." she said at last, her voice cracking alightly as she spoke, feeling her stomach twist into knots after have said it, but knew her mentor would approve of tthe idea, as she wouldn't be destracted herself, or destracting the others. "So this branch will act as my enemy? Red, would it be okay if I had you acting as my enemy? I feel as if a real cat were there posing as a threat it would make it easier, if I fall, then I get back up and try it again." she meowed, changing the subject.

Pumpkin was slghtly shocked to hear Bird's words but called to her apprentice to join her and the high prince. "Okay, well Oak if it starts to hurt you let me know and we can take a break." She meowed, putting the offer up to the younger cat. She glanced over towards Red and dipped her head slightly, as if to say she had it under control before looking back at the two cats. Her eyes once again wandered over towards Red, knowing the move wasn't her strongest one, but she had a relative idea of what to do.

Red turns and looks at the apprentice. "Do you want not be Bird's mentor?" He asks, his eyes looking around. He loved being a mentor, though it had its ups and downs. "You have to get healed, or I won't be teaching you anymore awesome moves." He says, looking at him, waiting for him to go with Pumpkin. "No, Bird. I don't want to get yelled at again today. Voe hates me already." He hisses, lashing his tail. "I'll take him on my own... Or I can Vapor." he says, knowing all of the apprentice were afraid of the large tom.

Oak glared at the warrior, holding his head high and meeting Red's gaze without fear. "I'm not afraid of you... or Vapor," he meowed clearly, annoyed. "I don't want to go back to the camp. It's not fair- you wouldn't take Bird or Bramble back just because of a scraped paw!" He knew that, if Red insisted, he couldn't really do much except set Voe on him back at camp; but when he was king...



I just had a sudden thought of Red carrying Oak back by the scruff of his neck, with Oak yelling and struggling fit to burst ^^
I couldn't stop laughing xD
