Nervously, Badgerclaw slid out of the elders den. He only came out because of his hunger, which the apprentices obviously didn't care about. He nearly didn't want to eat. His anxiety had taken over. The last deputy had died when he was hunting alone. He slid into the river, as his body was found lodged between two large rocks.
Badgerclaw didn't want a new deputy. There had been too many changes within the past generation. A warrior had left them, and Morningstar had been elected as leader. Then a new deputy had to be named, that died quickly after. Now, there was to be a new deputy.
At least there will be more apprentices, he tried to cheer himself,
hopefully they won't let a dear elder starve.Selecting a large rabbit, he settled down outside of his own den. There were no other elders to share with him. He started to eat when he noticed Sandstripe.
"Hey," he called to him,
"Do you mind talking with me for a moment?"||*****||Crystalpaw||*****||

As she no longer felt Ivyfoot's presence, Crystalpaw finished the mallow. She scooted the leaves towards the entrence, then began separating the blackberry leaves. Some terrible scent made her gag as she shoved the lavender to one side. The wild garlic behind it had definitely gone bad. The lavender must'v been eliminating the scent. Holding her breath, Crystal quickly swiped her paw across it, sending the stalks flying towards the pile of bad mallow.
As much as she wanted to, she couldn't take it outside. There would be complaints flying in from every direction, and the to-be apprentice Bravekit might get into them. Perhaps if she asked Ivorysong or Goldenblaze to watch Bravekit, and laid fresh lavender around the pile she could rid the den of the horrid stench.
No, she told herself,
everyone would be too busy. And the garlic might corrupt the lavender. Not willing to open her mouth the rest of the time she sorted, she had to make do with the stench. Perhaps it was time for a break. Relived, she padded out of the stink-hole. Taking a deep breath of fresh air, Crystalpaw noticed Heatherpaw batting a leaf.
Smirking, Crystalpaw began to creep up on her. Though, it wasn't the apprentice she was stalking, but the leaf. She was sure she was undetected when she was in pouncing distance. When Heatherpaw dropped back onto four paws to leap up on the leaf, Crystalpaw had to leap over her, pinning the leaf to the ground. It would be hard, and she hadn't much time left before she was noticed. She had to wait for the perfect moment to attack.

Morningstar nodded her head and turned as the two joined the patrol Hawkeye assigned. It wasn't but a few minutes later she realized that she could'v held the apprentice ceremony before the patrol was sent out. She dismissed it as she decided just to wait for their arrival. A hunting patrol would do good. Perhaps she could bring along Goldenblaze and Flowerpaw. Hunting practice would act as some of her training for the morning. Or, she could just hunt alone. No, there was nothing Flowerpaw would be doing, except battle training. Badgerclaw had his ticks removed already, and his den was clean. The nursery bedding was fine, and Bravekit wouldn't have time to rip apart the moss.
She hadn't the slightest clue where Goldenblaze was, but Flowerpaw might. She seemed to be searching as well. She might as well just go alone.
She silently padded out the entrance, and into the woods.
