She'd been wandering for a while and as the sunlight spread across the land in a blink of golden light, Pipit let out a thankful sigh. She paused a moment to look down at her thickly-striped legs - yep, every joint intact. It had been perilous during the early morning, with the foggy near-dark causing her a good amount of stress as she had picked her way over the low rolls of the foothills. She took a deep breath in and let it out; it always amused her to see it swirl before her whiskery nose. Her spring-green eyes blinked and scanned the land revealed before her by the rise of the sun. It seemed like a good land, a broad expanse of grass buffered on two sides by an impressive mountain range. Her white-tipped tail flicked off one bothersome fly as she carefully surveyed the gentle slope that dropped down before her. If she could make it down this hill intact...there was the promise of a filling breakfast below. The black-masked mare shuffled back and forth, whickering softly in mild distress, before shaking herself out - it was a way to relieve her anxiety. Biting her lip, she tentatively placed one hoof on the slope...and nothing bad happened. Another hoof...and still nothing bad. Pipit's ears flicked upright and she began to carefully pick her way through the boulders.
"Ah, thank the seasons for that sun..."
The stallion blinked a few times before yawning and clearing his throat again. He always sounded so raspy when he first woke up...it was very unattractive. Smacking his lips, he slowly rose up onto his hooves and indulged in a good shake that began at his nose to end at the tip of his thickly-haired tail. He chewed at the quipping near his hindquarters and after getting rid of that obnoxious itch, he considered his waking process nearly complete. The morning air at this altitude was rather chilly and he felt blessed for having a thicker coat. His amber eyes caught the morning sunlight momentarily as he stared down at the valley below. Yes, it felt vain somehow that he momentarily considered himself as an eagle, watchful and mighty from above, but then again... The stallion smirked. He knew he was gorgeous. As if refuting his claim, his back leg zinged him with a sharp pain, sharp enough to make him wince. Gritting his teeth, he kicked the leg and prayed that the cold wouldn't aggravate it further. There had been some worrying numbness, but he had tried to ignore it. He minced over to the small mountain stream and took a deep drink. It was icy with snowmelt. Far-off sounds reached his ears and he was shocked to realize that it sounded like...voices. Droplets dripped from his chin as he craned his head around to look up at the ridge above. Well...I'll be fly-struck. It's like a gathering, he thought as he watched the distant Equids move about. Hmm...maybe they would know about Livius's daughter... Whipping his tail like a predatory cat, Kiragg began to slowly pick his way up the slope.
