As the brute she'd classified as Badger stepped forward and started speaking, Mayu frowned, trying to remember when she'd actually spoken to him instead of watching, because she watched just about everyone. A habit, one could call it. Or paranoia. That worked too. She quickly recalled though, and remembered him, and the memories they probably shared together, if he remembered. Mayu never forgot anything. Well, maybe little things, but a lot of things she forced herself to remember fiercely. One never knew when something could come into use. Like now. May smiled quietly, looking at Badger. She'd met him quite some time ago, when he just became a stray. It wasn't like her, but he became one of those occasional instances when Mayu felt she needed to help. Not just watch, but help. She'd taught him a few things, before she left. She didn't want to keep him waiting though, so after a moment she answered.
"It has been a long time. Im surprised you remember." Mayu was not one of the most memorable dogs in the world, after all. "But Im fine. Life has been well." Except for her father dying, but she couldn't remember if he'd ever met her father, and it was a little too personal to speak of, especially in front of three other dogs she barely knew. "How about you, Badger?" She asked, looking at him curiously as her tail started to wag a little. It was always nice to see an old face, to know they had survived. Lives were easily taken in the street, so every day she saw an aquaintence, she rejoiced.
On another note, however, she wondered the same thig she'd always wondered when she met Badger. Why would his name be the name of a creature? It did fit, she didn't contest that, but it made her think. Would some other creature name their child dog? It felt really queer to think about it that way, but was that what badgers might feel about the brute in front of her? It kind of amused her, entertaining these funny little thoughts in the back of her mind.
Then, what broke her out of her thoughts was that he had the weirdest look on his face, as if he was thinking something. Mayu simply stayed silent, itching to do a bow and greet the new female as she was being a little rude, but the female was still glaring daggers and probably in the middle of something so it would be even more rude to interrupt. She didn't really understand what his 'deep in thought' look meant before he spoke. Oh. When her tail was wagging, it must have made the scent travel. Whoops. Cheeks burning, she hoped he didn't mistake that for her trying anything as she shook her head and collected herself, a smile once more forming on her lips. "Sorry about that." She apologised softly, before speaking once more with a teasing lilt to her tone. "If I had one he wouldn't be letting me out his sight, would he?" She replied. When faes were in heat, their mates were akin to their shadow, sticking impossibly close and attacking anyone who came near in these streets. There were quite a lot of males who would simply take what they wanted. Lucky for Mayu, she was good at staying under the radar, and fighting, should it come to that. A mate was a serious thing, and only when she was sure of one would she let it closer.
