Emberheart padded back into camp, a vole hanging from her jaws. She'd spend most of the early morning out hunting away from camp, just the way she enjoyed it, but work was still to be done. The she-cat approached the kill pile, taking a plump shrew, a nice mouse and the vole in her mouth. She took a step or two back before looking around the camp,Where is that apprentice of mine? She asked herself, raising her nose to the air -hopeful to catch scent of Blackpaw.
Her paws made no sound as she padded past the warrior and apprentice den, stopping at the elder's den. "Good morning Bearclaw." The warrior set down the three kills, picking up the vole and handing it to him. She'd gone to the edge of the territory to find him his favorite, and he knew it. The tom gave a nod of thanks and began to eat it. Emberheart turned to the other elders, Owlcry and Wavepool,"How are you two lovely she-cats this morning?" She asked the two, chuckling at their warm answer, but concerned by how Owlcry moved, slowly and as if she had sticky honey in her joints. The she-cat picked up the mouse, handing it to Owlcry, then giving the Shrew to Wavepool. Her back turned as she headed out, glancing over her shoulder one last time,"Have a good day. I will send my apprentice by to check for ticks before sundown -and Owlcry, I will tell Cherrypaw that you're a bit stiff, he will give you herbs for it."She called to them before turning back around and heading for the medicine cat's den.
Herbs were neatly stacked in sections along the walls, and it seemed like some herbs and berries were in short supply while others had generous amounts. "Cherrypaw, Owlcry has stiff joints. Of course she will not admit it, but I think she is getting worse." A wave of sorrow hit her, realizing that Owlcry would not be with Creekclan much longer. It brought back grim memories of her parents, passing quite close to each other and as elders. Tears welled up in her eyes and she glanced away quickly, intent on not letting Cherrypaw watch. "Blackpaw will be picking ticks off of the elders before sundown. I will send him by to get some Mousebile, would you mind having it ready for him?" With that, she turned around and left, not particularly wanting to start a conversation when she had so many other things to do.
The senior warrior knew better than to expect a tom like Blackpaw to be up so early, therefore the first place she searched for her apprentice was the den he slept in. Sure enough, he was lying down right in his nest. "Blackpaw! Wake up, get yourself something to eat, and meet me at the entrance to the nursery, hurry up!"Emberheart padded away, deciding quickly that she was going to work on his fighting for the day, and perhaps hunting tomorrow. The she-cat figured she'd do something productive while she waited for her apprentice, walking back over to the kill pile and taking up another mouse and padding off quickly to the nursery. She peered her head in, quietly murmuring to Willowwing. "Here. I did not want you to wait until someone got hungry to realize they you needed to be fed. I have to head out with Blackpaw, so I cannot talk today, but I wish you'll stay safe." She told the queen, knowing well that most wanted to get out and hop around like their old warrior selves. As he left the nursery, she sat down, her plush tail curled around her front paws as she waited for Blackpaw.
