Even with his nose so close to the waters, the scent of the other wolf was overwhelming. If he had to name it, Channing would have to call it gaudy. Like her personality. Both made him want to flinch, to leap from the shallow waters he stood in and get back away from her.
"Elena." He lifted his head, chilling water dribbling down his chin and neck. The tone of his voice never quavered from a monotone, though he had no problem with the fae. They were friends. He was not sure how or why, but that was how it had turned out. What was so special about him, the brute really could not tell. She gave plenty of that same flirting attention to everyone else.
He listened with the same blank expression, gaze having a harder and harder time staying fixed at what was across the lake. The touches were meant to get his attention and they worked, for the wrong reasons. He knew it was just her way, that just like he choose to lurk about and remain silent, Elena could not help her coy mannerisms. The feathery touch of her tail still made his muscles tense, ever so slightly. And then there was the teasing. "Elena…" He meant to finish that sentence, rather than just repeat her name once again. Two things happened when he turned to face her; first the scent of yet another wolf, and the flicker of movement in the corner of his eye. "What are you hiding from Mason?" The brute addressed the first, lifting his nose and smelling past Elena. Though he had not meant his question to sound so tense, he knew the other was not at all fond of his company. As far as Channing was concerned he did not care.
He turned his head away without pause for an answer, watching as Sybil and Robbie came to join them. The tip of his snow white tail twitched only once, involuntary proof that he was happy to see the she-wolf. They were friends, it was his right to be happy to see her, but the creeping feeling that this was a different feeling than seeing Elena or any other of his acquaintances made the wolf uneasy. He stepped further away from the lake, and Elena, trying to center himself again.
