This is my first roleplay, so if you have some advice or if I'm doing something wrong, please let me know. :)

The poll is now over! The choice with the most votes was to start a new thread, so that is what I am going to do. Everything will be restarted from the beginning, including members, so if you want to join/re-join, please post in the new thread once I have it up and feel free to quote your old form if you want to stay with the same character(s). Thank you!

We need these positions filled: Healer, Pup Watcher
We're looking for more: all open or unlimited positions (cat or wolf)

Many moons after the battle between light and dark, more than a quarter moon's journey from the lake, there lived another warrior clan unknown to the cats of thunder, wind, river, or shadow: CedarClan. They live alone in a dense forest near a swift and snaking river. Alone, but now quite, for across the river dwelled the wolves of Frost Pack. Forever sworn enemies, CedarClan and Frost Pack had been engaged in endless conflict far longer than even the oldest among them could remember.

Yet a new threat approaches, something nobody could have predicted, as twolegs have suddenly appeared on the outskirts of both territories and brought their great monsters with them, chopping and clearing their way through the forest, leaving behind a trail of flattened destruction. As the territories begin to shrink at an alarming rate and leaf-bare creeps near, cat and wolf alike start to wonder how they will survive much longer. They know they cannot fight the twolegs and have no choice but to leave to find a new home, yet the cost of their war has left both clan and pack weak and exhausted. With time running out, they begin to realize their only hope of survival might require the unthinkable: a truce with those they once called mortal enemies.

I know this summary is leaning a bit towards the Warriors side, but I intend for both cat and wolf sides to be represented as close to equally as possible. Familiarity with Warriors is useful but not necessary if you join as a wolf.

CedarClan

Camp:

The CedarClan camp is located in a gorge roughly twenty tail-lengths high, which cuts through a cluster of tall cedar trees from which the clan derives its name. The floor of the gorge is made up of a thin layer of sand and small pebbles covering smooth rock. The sides of the gorge are steep and rocky, roughly a v-shape tapering to a dead end in the western side of camp where the ground forms a gentle upward slope almost to the top of the gorge. This is the simplest way to enter and exit the camp, but the walls all along the ditch are dotted with many short ledges and footholds that make it easy for a cat to climb. The other end of the gorge leads away in the opposite direction and out of the forest. Not far from where the gorge ends to the west is the river, and on the other side of that is Frost Pack's territory.

Close to the bottom of the gorge are a number of small indentations in the rock where the cats make their dens. In the center of camp, in the largest hole, the only one that can truly be considered akin to a cave, lies the medicine cat den. Across from this and slightly to the right is the den where the leader sleeps. To the left of that, in another large hollow, is the nursery. The elders' dens surround these on either side, then the warriors, and on the very ends are the apprentices. Bedding is made with moss, leaves, and other soft materials from the forest.

On the largest ledge, called the Highledge, which protrudes just above the leader's den, the leader stands when calling together clan meetings.

Prey:

The most common types of prey found in the forest are mice, squirrels, and small birds. When prey is scarce, cats will also take to hunting fish in the river, but doing so brings them close to Frost Pack's territory and is therefore dangerous for any cat.

Enemies:

The main enemy is the wolves of Frost Pack, and fighting often breaks out near the river. Other common threats are foxes, badgers, and rouges. Bears have been encountered on rare occasion as well.

Frost Pack

Postby Schuyler » Sat Aug 24, 2013 11:10 am

How the pack works:

Frost Pack works similarly to a real wolf pack. The Alpha is the leader, both political and spiritual, and in charge of keeping the pack together; whatever they say goes. The Beta is the deputy. Their job is to help organize the pack and fill in when the alpha is not around or cannot take charge. The Omega is the lowest member of the pack, usually because they did something wrong, and is the last to eat from a kill. He/she receives little respect from the pack and can be bossed around by everyone.

The Healer cares for sick or injured wolves. He/she also works as a peacekeeper and is born with an innate knowledge of the language of cats, so that communication is possible between clan and pack although it is rarely taken advantage of.

The majority of the pack is made up of hunters, are roughly the equivalent to warriors in a clan. They hunt for the pack and fight to defend it from enemies. There is always one hunter stationed as a guard at each entrance to the camp. Alongside the hunters are the scouts, whose job it is to patrol the territory for danger and take messages when necessary, but they do not fight or hunt unless there is a shortage of hunters.

The Pup Watcher is in charge of looking after pups while they grow. Unlike in a clan, there is no set age at which a pup can start training as an apprentice. Rather, the Pup Watcher decides when each pup is ready, as well as what their position in the pack will be. Scouts train scouts, hunters train hunters, etc., and the mentor decides when the apprentice can become a full member of the pack. When the Pup Watcher retires, the Alpha chooses the wolf to take their place.

The wolves do not have a StarClan. Instead, they believe that when they die, their spirit goes into the earth to help the growth of new life. The Alpha receives signs from the forest, similar to how a medicine cat receives dreams sent by Star Clan.

Overview of Rank Duties & Order of Power:
Alpha - pack leader, interprets signs through nature
    Beta - keeps pack organized
Healer - cares for sick or injured wolves, can speak cat language
Hunter (ranked by seniority) - hunt, guard the camp, defend the pack
Scout (ranked by seniority) - patrol territory, take messages
Pup Watcher - looks after pups, decides when a pup becomes an apprentice
    Omega - servant

Camp:

Frost Pack makes its camp within a thicket of thorn bushes that forms a ring around a spacious hollow. Surrounded by towering trees, the space directly above the majority of the hollow is clear, so that on a cloudless night the wolves like to move out of their covered dens and sleep beneath the stars. The hollow is approximately an oval shape, padded underfoot by soft grass, and to the northernmost end the wolves opened a wide gap in the bushes through which they can enter and leave. There is a second, smaller natural opening to the opposite side, but it is more difficult to squeeze through for those bigger than pups and often results in a pelt full of thorns. Other than these openings, it is nearly impossible to push through the thorns.

Dens are arranged along the outside edge of the hollow and are built out of sturdy branches. Bedding is made mostly with grass, moss, leaves, and feathers. Closest to the two openings is where the hunters and scouts sleep. Nearby are the apprentices, and next to them the pups, who sleep together in one den along with the pup watcher, and the elders. Towards the center is the Healer's den, then the betas and alphas.

There is a large, flat rock in the center of the clearing, about a wolf-length long, referred to as the Rock. When holding a pack meeting, the Alpha will sit on the Rock and address the pack.

Prey:

The most common types of prey found in the forest are mice, squirrels, and small birds. Larger prey, particularly deer, are caught on occasion as well. When prey is scarce, hunters will also look for fish in the river, but they must be cautious for they then risk encountering CedarClan cats.

Enemies:

The main enemy is the cats of CedarClan, and fighting often breaks out near the river. Other common threats are badgers and the occasional bear.

The Pack

Note: For simplicity's sake and to avoid arguments, there is only one Alpha and Beta, rather than a male and a female for each. Alphas and Betas can be male or female and can have mates, but the mate is a regular pack member.

Rules

Postby Schuyler » Sat Aug 24, 2013 11:10 am

Subject to minor changes without warning. Anything major will be announced.

    1. All of Tess's rules apply; goes without saying.

    2. No cursing, except for mousebrain, mouse dung, fox dung, or something along those lines you come up with.

    3. You may have up to four characters; however, you must roleplay with all of them and please don't make them all one species or gender. Try to keep things balanced.

    4. Your characters may have mates/crushes, but to keep things interesting, you may not play your own character's mate, crush, or parent.

    5. This is a semi-lit roleplay. Believe me, I understand writer's block, but try to consistently have a minimum of four or five good sentences with an effort at proper grammar, spelling, and punctuation.

    6. Please don't join CedarClan if you do not have at least a basic knowledge of the Warriors series by Erin Hunter. Frost Pack is open to everyone, since it does not require prior knowledge.

    7. This is meant to be fun, so remember to be nice! If someone is doing something you don't like, please work it out in a friendly and patient manner.

    8. Everybody is welcome to play and I will accept every application. However, I reserve the right to ask anyone to leave if they are not following the rules.

If you break a rule, you will first receive a warning. If you do it again, depending on what you did, you will either get a second warning or be asked to leave. On the third time, you will be banned from the roleplay.

Subject to minor changes without warning. Anything major will be announced.

-Please provide your own form. It doesn't have to be fancy or even particularly long, but it should include all important information about your character, such as: name, age, description, desired rank, etc.

-The Alpha and clan leader (Blizzard and Eaglestar) are NPCs and anyone can control them. If you do so, please refer to their character forms and portray them accurately. This is to keep everything fair so no-one can have too much control over other characters.

After we roleplay for a bit and I have an idea who might be good for the position, I will allow players to apply to play a leader by filling out a form and then I will chose a leader and an Alpha.

-If you reserve a rank, you have 1 day (24 hours) to post your form. After that, the rank will open to anyone again.

-Use (), [], or {} for talking OOC.

-I am always open for private messages if you have any questions, comments, or concerns. If you have been offline for a while or if you've just joined, I would be happy to give you a recap.

Description: Nightfeather is a slender, but well-muscled black tom with yellow-green eyes. His right ear was scarred when, as a young apprentice, he had a violent encounter with a rogue while exploring the forest.
Gender: Tom
Age: 26 moons (2 years, 2 months)
Position: Medicine cat
Allegiance: CedarClan
Kin: Duskshadow (mother, dead), father unknown, no siblings
Mate: None

Nightfeather is a quiet and reserved cat, not particularly enjoying the company of others. However, he reveals a fiery personality when impassioned or angered and is difficult to get along with, but those who get to know him welllearn to see past all that to a cat who holds a fierce and unwavering loyalty to his friends and his clan. He is dedicated to helping his clanmates and shows great skill with herbs, although despite being a medicine cat, he feels a strong association to a warrior's lifestyle and can be impatient and even hostile at times. Quick to jump into action, often with a bold recklessness, he finds it difficult to keep in mind that his first and foremost duty is to heal, not fight.

Nightfeather's mother, Duskshadow, was killed by a fox when her only son was but four moons old. No-one knows who his father was, but Duskshadow was often sighted near the Twolegplace on the edge of CedarClan territory, and so many in the clan suspect her mate was a kittypet. Nonetheless, Nightfeather grew up as a respected member of CedarClan and when he began to show a deep interest in the ways of a medicine cat, he chose to train as one.

Image

Image

Description: Thin, shaggy gray and cream-colored wolf with bright orange eyes.
Gender: Female
Age: 3 years
Position: Scout
Allegiance: Frost Pack
Kin: Parents unknown, Last Breeze (half brother, dead)
Mate: None

Falcon's Eye, named for her keen eyesight and known simply as "Falcon" to her friends, was not born in the pack; she grew up in the rolling hills to the far north end of the forest. Never knowing her parents, she was raised by her elder brother, Last Breeze. When Falcon was just out of puphood, she and Last Breeze traveled into the forest where they meet and were soon adopted by Frost Pack. But Last Breeze was an old wolf, his summer days long past, and within a year he had died of old age. Falcon was chosen to train as a scout and became a full member of the pack just two seasons ago.

Although the pack members have accepted Falcon as a member of Frost Pack, she has a hard time thinking of herself as anything other than an outsider. She is shy, timid, and very curious but lacks any significant physical strength. She makes up for it, however, with surprising agility and speed and a willingness to serve. Generous and kind, Falcon has never wanted anything to do with any fighting and often prays in her mind for the conflict with CedarClan to end. Having been very close to her brother, his death, although anticipated, crushed her and left her feeling completely alone, and despite her packmate's many efforts to make her feel welcome, she refuses to let any wolf get too close to her and enjoys seeking solitude in the forest.
