EAGLESTRIKE
tom :: senior warrior :: thirty-seven moons

    Eaglestrike straightened as Smokepaw and Snowdrift emerged from the trees to his left. Raising his head, he sniffed the air and, as he though, Smokepaw had recently groomed, as was evident from his sleek fur. Snorting, he sat down and listened to the apprentice as he apologised and began to ask a question only to cut off and glanced at his mentor with a frown. "You wanted to train with Littlepaw and have Whitestar assess your skills." He finished, and tasted the air again. Whitestar was not with them. "Well, someone will have to go and get him, won't they? I suppose this was your idea, Snowdrift? Why don't you go get our leader?" He drawled, flicking his tail so Littlepaw knew to stop. It was a good idea. Both would be warriors soon and he couldn't remember the last time they had trained together, if at all.

SNOWDRIFT

    Snowdrift followed after her apprentice in silence, not wanting to distract Smokepaw from his tracking. Every so often Snowdrift would scent the air to make sure Smokepaw hadn't trailed off in the wrong direction, but so far her apprentice had been doing very well in following their scent. Snowdrift's ears pricked upwards as she heard the faint murmuring of voices in the distance, and she could only believe that it was Eaglestrike and his apprentice Littlepaw. The slender she-cat weaves her way through the shrubs and trees, her agile body easily moving through the occasional tight gaps. Eventually, through the trees up ahead, she worked out two figures, obviously training. Snowdrift looked down at as Smokepaw as he heard a gasp from her apprentice and watched with clear amusement as the white and grey apprentice cleaned up his messy pelt. She barely resisted the urge to roll her eyes as she watched Smokepaw stride up to Littlepaw and sit down, his voice loud and clear as he spoke to both Littlepaw and Eaglestrike. She followed her apprentice, giving a small dip of her head to the senior warrior Eaglestrike. "Eaglestrike." She greeted respectfully before turning her attention to Smokepaw, her ears briefly flattening against her skull as her apprentice turn to look her and frowned. Snowdrift shut her jaws as Eaglestrike spoke, she bowed her head slightly. "Yes, I thought that Littlepaw and Smokepaw could have a friendly competition. I also thought that we could bring Whitestar along to assess the two, seeing as their due to become warriors soon." She meowed, confirming what Eaglestrike has just said, her voice calm and even as she spoke to Eaglestrike. Snowdrift glanced over at Smokepaw, sending her apprentice a reassuring glance. Snowdrift looked back over at Eaglestrike as he spoke once again. "I just wanted to make sure this was alright with you, and seeing as it is, I'll go fetch Whitestar." She finished off with another dip of her head, barely resisting the urge to bare her teeth at the older warrior. Snowdrift's tail lashed once as she turned around, heading back the way she and previously came.

Smiling sheepishly, the apprentice gave a nod. He should have figured Eaglestrike would know their intentions. So, Snowdrift had only wanted to confirm with them before getting the leader. That made more sense than dragging him along without being sure this training request would be accepted. His mind was elsewhere, so he was a lot less sharp than usual. This angered him slightly, and he flattened his ears before turning to his mentor and nodding. "Oh. Right!" he meowed, watching her leave. He was then left in Eaglestrike's company, waving his tail just above the ground behind him. He respected this warrior immensely, and could understand his stern and strict demeanor. It was necessary for there to be at least one cat who could think rationally instead of being afflicted by emotion. He had that skill. Dipping his head to the tom, he purred, "I hope training has been going well for you and Littlepaw." as he glanced between them.

"Hold it!" Littlepaw said and took a step forward, looking at Snowdrift for a moment. "A friendly compitition?" She asked both confused and curious, because when it came to competitions she really was set to win. Knowing that she would have to work harder than she actually would gave her a small kick to get started, but she then though it was maybe just to point out that they where both training and going to compare to eachother sometime. Her blue eyes turned to Smokepaw for a short moment before she loked back at his mentor, her tail waving behind her.

EAGLESTRIKE
tom :: senior warrior :: thirty-seven moons

    The tom remained silent as Snowdrift spoke and then left. Turning to Smokepaw as the younger tom spoke, he gave a small nod. "Littlepaw has the brains to formulate attacks but she's not quite got a grip on how to remain silent while attacking," he answered gruffly, "other than that, she is doing well. What about you, Smokepaw? How is your training going?" Personally, he'd rather have received Smokepaw as an apprentice than Littlepaw, but that decision was not up to him. Littlepaw was just too... bouncy. Eaglestrike had lost his patience more times than he cared to count in the last moon, never mind in the whole of her apprenticeship. She was built for speed and agility, not strength like himself. However, it had been a good challenge, and underneath his almost icy demeanour the senior warrior was almost fond of her. It would actually be strange not to go out training once she gained her warrior name.

      softpaw

      Softpaw sniffed the air, parting her lips to drink in the air. She detected a mouse a few fox lengths away, munching on a few seeds in the undergrowth beneath a large oak. She signaled to her mentor, touching him gently with her fluffy tail and directing her ears towards the vulnerable mouse. She tested the air Downwind, this must be my lucky day she thought to herself as she went into a crouch and placed her paws one infront of the other as she crept towards the mouse. The unexpected happened as the wind shifted, causing her to be upwind from the mouse. He sniffed the air, obviously alarmed. She lunged at the mouse but he got away in a hole under the roots of the tree. "Mouse-dung!"the young she-cat said, dishearten. She almost caught it, but luck went against her.

      mint frost

      ᴍᴏᴏᴅ: a little concernedᴡʜᴇʀᴇ: campᴡɪᴛʜ: Whitestar
      Mintfrost thanks the tom as he bounded away with the hunting patrol. The queen Foxpool seemed fine, so she picked up her vole and walked over to the side of camp and began to tear through it's hide and feasting on the meat inside. She had been quite famished, it as nearly sunhigh and this was the first meal she had all day. She quickly gulped down the last of the vole and buried the bones. She thought back to her previous thought this morning and decided that since the camp was more quiet now that she'd talk to Whitestar about her low stock of catnip. She knew that leaf-fall would be here soon and whitecough would ravage the camp. She padded up to the to and said "Whitestar, my stock of catnip is running a little low, should I take a warrior with me?". She'd also take Sandpaw with her so she would know where to get the herb when it was her time to be medicine cat.

Tigerpaw grinned when Thunderflame appeared. "Hello, Thunderflame!" He greeted the warrior happily. The ginger tom glanced past the dark, long haired warrior to see where his mentor was. Not seeing Jayfrost following behind Thunderflame, Tigerpaw pouted a bit, wondering when, if ever, they would finally get to leave and go hunt. The young apprentice was beginning to grow impatient after a few moments had passed, and so he groaned inwardly, silently asking himself if it would be rude to try and convince Ravenfeather and Thunderflame to just leave without the ragdoll. Just as he was about to open his maw and ask, Fogpaw bounded up and began to speak with Wolfpaw, convincing the blind apprentice to go with her to hunt, instead of with the patrol.

After she had thoroughly groomed her long, mostly white fur, the loner made her way down the tree she was currently using as a nest, and hopped down to the ground, being careful to keep her paw steps quiet. Now on the forest floor, Delilah paused to make sure there were no clan cats nearby. Once sure, she set off in a random direction and pricked her ears. Since she was on someone else's territory, Delilah needed to be able to hide at the tiniest sound or scent of another cat. What made this hard, was the fact that she still needed to fill her belly. As one could imagine, this resulted in many false alarms. The long-haired she-cat continued walking, trying to be as stealthy as possible as she listened and scented for signs of prey. It wasn't too long before a little rustle sent her bolting into a nearby bush. She peered out of the bush, and quickly realized that it had simply been a little mouse that had made the noise. Delilah grinned and waited for the unsuspecting prey animal to make it's way closer as it foraged for food. As soon as it was within reach, Delilah leapt from her hiding place and pounced on top of the prey, dispatching it quickly and cleanly.

Sweetfoot rolled over in her bedding, having woken up only minutes ago due to the heat of the late summer morning. The grey and cream caliby slowly heaved herself up to her paws and let loose a long, loud yawn, before bowing down into an overly necessary stretch. Still a bit groggy, but aware she needed to get her day started, Sweetfoot made her way out of the warriors den and into the bright sunlight. She blinked rapidly for a moment as her eyes adjusted to the harsh morning, before looking around to see who had already gone on patrol and who was left in camp. Not seeing anyone she needed to speak with, or anything she needed to be doing, the young warrior fell back on her hindquarters and began to do a quick session of grooming. She lifted one of her paws and licked it before dragging it over her face, repeating the process a few times until she was satisfied.

The large tom stopped as his apprentice tried to get his attention. He turned to glance in the direction her ears had signaled in and then nodded upon seeing the mouse. He sat and wrapped his tail over his paws, dipping his head to her to instruct that she try alone. He too tested the air and detected that it was blowing toward Softpaw. He had smiled, but then sighed when the shift in direction gave her away and deprived her of her kill. He stood and padded toward her, nodding. "You had good technique, but sometimes, that isn't enough." he told her, starting toward the scent of another mouse he had picked up. "Luck is not always on our side." He had no doubt the apprentice knew that, but it was important that she know how much of a factor luck really played in what warriors did. Oftentimes, the cat without as much skill as another will catch more prey. There was much that was left up to luck. "Let's try another." Crookedheart flashed her a smile, hoping she wouldn't have been disheartened by the mouse that got away.

Listening as intently as he could to the senior warrior's words, Smokepaw nodded and then cocked his head. "Ah. That was difficult for me to conquer, too." he admitted. "Being that I can't hear well, I didn't really know how much noise I was making. Recently, Snowdrift says I've gotten better, though." Smiling softly, he then nodded. "Our training has been going well, I'd say. I feel confident that I have retained most of what she's taught me. She's been a great mentor to me." And she really had been. Smokepaw was glad they'd been assigned to one another. At first, he had felt she was too lenient, but she had proved him wrong. Any apprentices she got later on in her life would be lucky to have her as a mentor.

      softpaw

      ᴍᴏᴏᴅ: discouragedᴡʜᴇʀᴇ: the forestᴡɪᴛʜ: Crookedheart
      She felt a little better, knowing that her mentor took the environment into consideration, and that is what made her lose her prey. Softpaw liked her mentor, he wasn't pushy and didn't scold her when she did things wrong and she was grateful to have a cat so patient to teach her. She once again attempted to detect another mouse which wouldn't be hard due to the weather and plentiful supply of food to them. It seemed not even a kit-step away another mouse was scurrying around, looking for something to fill it's belly. When it had grasped a seed between its two forepaws she crouched and crept behind the mouse, attempting to do it a little quicker, but still silent. She was downwind once again and lept at the mouse before the wind had time to change direction. She grasped the mouse between her jaws and clamped down, quickly ending it's life. Remembering what Crookedheart told her earlier, she thanked Starclan for the life of the prey that would now feed her clan mates. She dropped the mouse and sighed. She was quite tired now and was ready to go back to camp. "Do you think this is enough?" she asked Crookedheart.
