xxxxxthe sound of rain against glass and the steady buzz of a car engine had filled her ears that morning, lulling her into a rare state of bliss as the car moved along the road. she had mixed emotions on the days to come, knowing that she should be thrilled by the fact that she would be getting paired up with a god soon, but also dreading the idea that she’d end up with someone weak. she ignored her doubtful thoughts, at that moment, simply staring out of the car window and admiring the scenery that she passed by, letting her less worrisome thoughts take over. would she miss her parents? she had in fact stayed behind a little longer to give them a proper goodbye, while her younger sister departed ahead of her. hatsumi knew that mura longed to finally escape their parents, she understood this, too, the want and desire for freedom. however, hatsumi has always been one to not question the rekka clan, and felt content in following the orders from her family, even if those orders were to train yourself to hell and back. it was a given, considering that both she and murasaki were pure-blooded familiars, and such status was not to be taken lightly. but would she ever truly miss her parents?
xxxxxshe had to admit that her parents could be very overbearing at times, but there was really nothing that she could do about it. at least now she could get away from the moments where she wished she was born into another family, and not have to bear the pressure of becoming a powerful familiar paired with a powerful god as to not taint her family’s name. it wasn’t too bad, though, as she herself most often enjoyed the fact that she was powerful and that being paired with a powerful god was practically a given right to her. the thrill of having power was something no other emotion could even come close to, and hatsumi was ready to feel more and more of it. with all the years spent training and being fed the mindset that she would achieve greatness in the future, power was all she really wanted. no, it was what she deserved.
xxxxxthe car started to slow down, she noticed, stopping outside the grandiose building that would become her second home very soon. stepping foot out of the vehicle, and onto the academy’s premises, managed to awaken some emotions that have been locked away for far too long under her parents’ strict reign over her life. the feeling of excitement, she noted in her head, a feeling she was sure she wouldn’t feel again in her lifetime, being so used to repetitive training regimens that the rekka clan had instilled into the lives of her and her younger sister. repetitive to the point where even her thoughts and emotions aligned with the scheduled regimens, it was a truly hellish feeling. but now, the new environment, the new people, the new everything was so refreshing to her, that she couldn’t fight down the smile that spread onto her lips. a smile that fell just as quickly as it appeared. she had to make a first impression, of course, and a lack of emotion always resulted in some sort of fear or discomfort from others, and that’s what she was striving for today.
xxxxxfrom what the email that got sent out this morning, hatsumi made her way to the given location on the large campus, her stride relaxed and full of a sense of confidence, and the way people turned heads to look at her was something that she could definitely get used to. She wasn’t surprised either, she made it a point not to wear the school uniform sent over to the rekka residence, simply because she wanted to have a more dramatic entrance, (and because she wanted to wear heels to make herself even taller than she already is so she could tower over people and inflict fear, but that wasn’t the point). She racked her mind to remember what the email said, vaguely remembering something about an exam to determine compatibility, and she had grimaced in distaste. In all honesty, she didn’t want anyone handling her on her first day at the academy, especially since she hasn’t even met any of the gods in her class and she definitely has little to no trust when it comes to people she has never even met. handling hatsumi when she’s in her weapon form should be an honor bestowed by her and her alone, and she was very much tempted to not attend the exam, but at the same time, it was her best bet to meet the gods.
xxxxxshe approached the entrance of the arena with her mixed feelings still battling it out in her head, but she paid it no mind as she strode over to the board of names that would be part of her class, and she was almost relieved that her sister was already there. the curiosity she had felt almost made her not notice the crowd of people parting to let her through, and just like that her ego received another huge boost. she knew she radiated a powerful aura, but for it to have this effect? another thing that she could definitely get used to. she stood some feet away from her younger sister as she scanned the list of names, these people were supposed to be on par with her own abilities, all powerful gods and familiars, but she doubted that she would call any of them her equals. she stopped by her name, and her eyes glided over to the name of her first exam partner. she frowned, ‘hoshino aelia, god of the sun’ the board had said. she wasn’t entirely sure whether she had heard the name or not before, and she was definitely sure that she knew absolutely nothing of this god. this was going to be a completely new experience, it seemed, and hatsumi wondered to herself whether that was a good thing.
xxxxxnevertheless, she wasn’t going to back down. she was curious if this god could even handle her properly, but it would be a surprise to her if they couldn’t, considering how widely used the katana was not only amongst the gods but also mortals. she would deem it disrespectful, even, if the god didn’t know how to handle a katana, and even the thought of being mishandled brought a nauseating feeling to the pit of her stomach, and she was yet again tempted to skip out on this one exam. no harm done right? how much trouble could she truly get into. but just the image of her parents’ disapproving looks sent a shiver down her spine, she could do this, she’d just slap whichever god was going to handle her if they even thought about mishandling her.
xxxxxshe was about to go ahead and read the other pairs out of sheer curiosity until she heard the crackle of thunder above her. the first time she skimmed over the list, she saw that the god of weather was part of her class, but she didn’t think much of it now. the thunder was definitely a bad sign, but at the same time, another surge of excitement had passed through her body. yeah, the thunder was probably a bad sign, someone had pissed off the weather god most likely, but boy would it be exciting to see a fight on her first day at the academy, much less her first hour. it was a good way to see the abilities of the god in question and would allow hatsumi to decide if she would ever want to be paired with the god. she was picky like that.
