spaceEllie woke up on the first day of school punctually, as always. For the first time in a long time, Ellie woke up and she didn't feel like hiding her face. Ever since she broke up with Austin, her secret boyfriend, she had been feeling much more confident. Their relationship was very toxic in hindsight. Instead of her usual, and quite bland, outfit of a long-sleeved shirt and pants, she grabbed a nice and colorful t-shirt.
spaceBecause Ellie's dad owns a luxury car company, she is always driving to school in some of the nicest cars on the market. She pulled up into the school parking lot, ten minutes before the first bell. What could she say? She liked to be prepared. She doesn't like being caught unprepared, and subsequently incompetent for a task at hand.
spaceEllie is usually one of the first kids at school, but much to her surprise, there was a gathering of what looked to be some of Topaz's clique: mean girls. They always find a button to push to make her even more insecure than she already was. She always just let them do it. She knew there was no point in trying to stop them from doing so. Ellie tries to walk past them without drawing attention to herself, but, like sharks smelling blood in the water, they seemed to sense her presence.
spaceOne of them speaks up. "Hey look! It's the freak! I see you decided to try and make yourself a bit less revolting today. It'd be horrible if something were to happen to that
super cute t-shirt," She stifles a laugh, "you're wearing." Before Ellie could even open her mouth to respond, she got some kind of bright drink splashed onto her face, then subsequently dripping down onto her shirt.
Great. Now I remember why I don't step out of my comfort zone. She wipes the drink off of her face and quickly walks to the bathroom, grabbing a sweatshirt out of her bag and quickly changing into it. The only thing she could think of after that incident was simply:
This year was going to be horrible.
