Yaz Pierce||Spear Hero||24||Rosebreak Meeting Hall||Tagged: Arroyo, Tsutsuji, Frend
"Yeah, a couple," Yaz said, fishing a rolled-up parchment from within her armor. The tribe elders had given her a list of quests, presumably to help her get acquainted with the world before taking on the waves. Or maybe to help her get stronger, she wasn't quite sure how this world worked. Some of these other-world stories had video game mechanics baked-in, she wasn't sure if this was the same. "Figured we'd take this fishing one, ease me in to this whole hero thing." It had the lowest reward, which probably meant it was the least difficult. Sea monster was definitely something she didn't want to deal with for her first quest, and mountains sounded like a lot of hiking. Her body had been upgraded, but she still didn't like hiking. Arroyo had also mentioned a ship, which hopefully meant they wouldn't have to buy a boat. Yaz had never been on a boat before, she wondered what it was like.

An eyebrow went up as a squirrel darted down Tsutsuji's arm, but she didn't question it. He was really leaning in to the whole nature shaman thing, apparently. She supposed he was going to be their support, that's usually what his type was. "So, am I supposed to be level grinding or anything?" She asked, using her spear to lever herself upright. "I can't see any bars, so I'm assuming this is just straight fantasy, but I figured I'd check." Again, hopefully she wouldn't, running around a field smacking spiders and slimes was never really her thing. Besides, two-thirds of her party seemed eager to get questing. Arroyo just seemed eager in general, actually. It was a bit overwhelming, truth be told, like being punched in the face with questions. And those weren't even directed at her.

With a hum, Aegis looked around the square, eyeing all the stalls looking for a new way out. "Sir? That's odd too, maybe just call me Aegis? It's a good name, I like my name, very regal. I'm not though. Regal. But it's a good name because people always assume it's a pseudonym and leave me alone."

Squinting, he glanced around at all the people. It felt weird not knowing where the last one was.... wait.... wasn't that one like??? The one it was most important to find??? They'd told him something... something... OH.

Looking at his companions with wide eyes, he asked "If you had to pick one person within sight who looks like a villain in need of rehab which one would it be? .... I ammmmm pickinggg...."

He narrowed his eyes until he found a suspiciously suspicious person acting (admittedly not all that) suspicious. The man finished what looked like jerky, and had started wandering. Running over, Aegis grabbed him by the wrist and made direct eye contact. "Hello! Are you a convicted felon in need of rehab?!"

"Grinding.... Bars....?" Ji wondered if this hero was completely... intact... But her spirit seemed stable so. Whatever, if she did turn out to be a few sticks short of a nest, it would hopefully still be fine and he could curve them away from getting into too much trouble.

When the sailor began asking about Nishi, he couldn't help but flinch the slightest bit. This attention was really very unsettling. "Nishi is a squirrel... why wouldn't he eat squirrel food?"

Truthfully, the idea of getting on a boat wasn't terribly appealing to him. He'd never been on one before, and he was so used to the steady ways of the mountains, the uncertainty and the constant moving chaotic energy of the sea... Not great. But if this was the route his hero wished to take, he'd be happy to oblige.

spacer"Oh okay!" Royo responded with a happy grin, even though she was the teeniest bit confused. Squirrel food? What is that supposed to mean? I've seen squirrels eat everything from nuts to fruits to garbage... and even me, she mused. With a shudder, she recalled the time she tried to catch one and ended up with a nasty bite. Likely because she jumped it and grabbed it out of nowhere, but as far as she was concerned, it had tried to eat her. Hopefully this spirit guide would be nicer than that little gremlin.

spacerHer confusion was interrupted with Yaz's words. Though, along with the words came more confusion. 'Grinding', 'bars', 'fantasy': they were all foreign phrases that puzzled her. It was lingo Royo had yet to encounter, though that only made the spear hero more interesting. Her interrogation didn't seem to go over that well with Tsutsuji, but that wouldn't stop her from asking all about where Yaz came from and what that place was like. It'd be refreshing to learn about some place new; she'd travelled around Echoa enough to have an idea of what all the regions and their people were like.

spacerLeaning over the table, Royo peeked at the parchment Yaz was holding. Their quest, as chosen by the hero, was accompanying some fisherman farther away from the shore. It was her turn to raise her eyebrows, seeing all the other quests on the list. Sea monsters and mysterious growls sounded so much more interesting, but Yaz brought up a good point. They had no idea how they'd function as a group or anything, although of course, Royo wasn't against trying to wing it. They could get those other quests done... probably. As she continued reading, her eyes lingered on the reward. For the one time that morning, she mellowed down a bit, realizing that this quest was about to bring her back home. It made sense, she supposed, that before a new adventure, the first thing she should do was visit her home village. She cringed a little, thinking of how her aunt would fawn over her being back. Embarassing. Not only that, it would also be disappointingly boring. Nothing exciting ever happened in Whale Point. There wasn't anything to see, just ice, water, a little more ice, and guess what? More water. There wasn't anything to do either. You either fished, sold fish, cooked fish or ate fish. She had done her fair share of fishing in her life, and it never got anymore exciting. Plus, the journey there would take a while, perhaps even the whole day. She had always travelled alone too, so she didn't have anything to do on her ship. No games, no drinks, no nothing. They could talk, but even the ever so energetic sailor dreaded the idea of talking for hours on end. Especially since everyone seemed like a bummer, except Frend. Maybe he'd turn out to be less annoying and more fun.

spacer"So... Are we heading out?" Royo asked, addressing the question to no one in particular. "Whale Point's a lil' bit of a journey, just so you know. It might be good to get going so we arrive there at a reasonable hour." She was eager to get going, not for the quest itself, but to get it over with as soon as possible.

The left the tailor and headed towards the blacksmith. Maya was curious what this 'gun' thing was. She made a mental note to remember to ask him about once they got started on their journey. As the approached the blacksmith, Maya felt a pep in her step. Clothes shopping was never something she enjoyed doing. She learned from her mother how to sew so she would patch up her clothing whenever it got torn up. The green cloak she just bought was the first new piece of clothing she purchased in three years. She was about to go on an important journey and needed to look the part.

The smell and ringing sound of the shop wrapped around her. Now this was a place that she could spend her money easily. True she made her own arrows and knew how to sharpen her own blade, but it was never the same as having a professional do it. She started looking at all the daggers and swords that were on display. She weighed the pouch that she kept her coins in. It was still relatively heavy which meant she could buy a thing or two... maybe three?

โ”โ”Step one was complete. That wasnโ€™t too hard, if everything about aiding a hero was this easy it would be a piece of cake. Or maybe pie depending on the day. But whatever dessert it ended up being, as long as it was easy sheโ€™d take it. Still she couldnโ€™t shake the thought of the thousands of others to come and somehow with that thought in mind, things didnโ€™t seem that easy anymore. As she turned her gaze to the Hero, she couldnโ€™t help but notice he seemed a tad more...nervous than expected. Overwhelmed perhaps. The constant clicking of his pen was a dead giveaway. For a brief second a horrible wave of a feeling she knew all too well washed over her. Doubt. It was a horrible feeling alone, but doubting the chosen Hero made it even worse. Or perhaps she wasnโ€™t doubting the Hero, maybe she was doubting herself. Which was a lot more likely and rather fitting. But what if the Sword had made a mistake? She had to admit, he didnโ€™t seem much like a hero, but obviously something about him must have weighed out the other options. Perhaps with time, the Hero in him would emerge. But that seemed like it would take quite a long time.

โ”โ”Avalon was so caught up in her thoughts that she didnโ€™t notice the other figure approaching her. It wasnโ€™t until a sudden clap on the shoulder snapped her out of her thoughts and nearly made her flinch, but instead tensed up - which wasnโ€™t much better in her opinion. Nonetheless, she quickly relaxed once the person introduced herself as Sivitri, who she assumed was another party member since she had been here first alongside the Hero. โ€œItโ€™s great to meet you too.โ€ She replied, in response to the otherโ€™s greeting. She had to say that these two seemed friendly enough, though would most likely be quite a handful to deal with. She could already tell they both had a lot of energy, though of different types. Regardless, hopefully things would go well enough. Hopefully.

โ”โ”Soon enough, the Hero spoke once more, this time about icebreakers and their final party member. She wasnโ€™t sure about the icebreakers thing and wasnโ€™t any more so concerning their last member. Nonetheless, she didnโ€™t have to dwell on this for very long because Sivitri was quick to lead them away from town square and off to find their missing party member. It didnโ€™t take them very long to get away from town square, though it wasnโ€™t any less stressful in Avalonโ€™s opinion. With so many things going on and with the occasional groups of people going by, it was easy for one to get distracted and run oneโ€™s anxiety up.

โ”โ”Even so, she didnโ€™t have to worry for very long, because once more the Hero began chatting away, about what exactly she wasnโ€™t sure. Something about his name and to call him that. She had to say, this Hero was quite the talkative fellow, even if half the things he said she didnโ€™t know about nor understood and made her mind spin in endless circles. Sheโ€™d get used to it in time though. Maybe. Dislodging the many thoughts that threatened to take over otherwise, her gaze continued to flicker around in search of the last party member. Finding a single person among this many people felt nearly impossible. She didnโ€™t even want to think about how many people they had passed and the possibility of having missed whoever it was. What if it was that person that just passed by? Or that one over there at that stall? No. Surely they would be someone that stuck out. But who?

โ”โ”As person after person went by, that old feeling began to creep back to her once more. Would they ever find the last party member or would they fail? It hadnโ€™t even been that long, but it felt like it had been hours. Every step almost felt draining, like theyโ€™d been walking an endless path that would never end. It was exhausting, mentally so anyway. Just before she could think of another million things that could go wrong, the Hero spoke which broke her thoughts. She was dumbfounded by his question, glancing around in an awkward manner. What exactly would that look like of all things?

โ”โ”Before she could even answer, the Hero had dashed off toward some stranger and had grabbed him by the wrist. Well, scratch that from earlier - things were already quickly going downhill. The situation wasnโ€™t a desirable one, so she wasnโ€™t sure how to approach it besides, hesitantly approaching the two. She grabbed his arm, tugging a tad before saying โ€œYou know if he is, it wouldnโ€™t be the best idea to just...you know, grab him.โ€ She sighed inwardly, once more wondering how this man of all people could be the chosen Hero. They hadnโ€™t even gotten started on their first task and they were already off to a bad start. What could be next? She didnโ€™t even want to think about it.

โ”โ”Silas had thought that the Hero would be at least, mildly impressive. But this was something completely different. When he finally laid eyes on the Hero, she wasnโ€™t at all what he expected her to be. She was awfully small and seemed to be a walking mess of nerves. He couldnโ€™t say anything about it though, because she was from a completely different world and there was quite a bit weighing on her shoulders. He somewhat felt bad for her, coming to a new world was one thing, but being a destined hero was another thing within itself. Had it been an actual object, he thought she might crumble underneath it while trying to withstand the weight of it. He tried to imagine himself in such a position, in a new world and destined to be a hero. The Hero. It was an exciting thought no doubt, but it was only a fantasy. He wasnโ€™t in a different world nor was destined to be a Hero. He was destined to help aid the Hero in completing tasks around Echoa. It was still a great role no doubt, though he wondered how hard it would be. Surely itโ€™d be easy enough, as the other two newcomers seemed quite capable. Theyโ€™d make for a great team no doubt and he found himself excited for whatever there was to come.

โ”โ”Soon enough, the Hero introduced herself but the room remained quiet. He glanced at the other two and back to the Hero, who had seemed to become lost in her own thoughts for quite awhile. She truly was a bundle of nerves it seemed. Too bad being a Hero couldnโ€™t be less intimidating, perhaps that would help her relax a bit. Before long the Hero spoke again, saying they should all introduce themselves and introducing herself for the second time. He watched as the man approached her first, speaking his name and then the smaller woman following his lead shortly afterwards. He was the last to do so, though he approached in a manner that he hoped was anything but intimidating. โ€œAnd Iโ€™m Silas! Pleasure to meet you Liv, youโ€™ll do great as a hero! Thereโ€™s nothing to be worried about, weโ€™re all here for you.โ€ He said with a supportive grin. It was true, if she ever needed help certainly one of them could help aid her in whatever she needed. He knew heโ€™d be glad to do so.

โ”โ”Silas took a step back to give the Hero some space, glancing around the hall as Solace asked about what they should address her as. He turned back after a moment, glancing at her shield that she carried with her. Silas wasnโ€™t exactly sure how to use a shield offensively, but it shouldnโ€™t be too hard to figure it out. Shrugging and putting these thoughts to the side, he returned his attention to the Hero, awaiting for her reply.

Yaz Pierce||Spear Hero||24||Rosebreak Meeting Hall||Tagged: Arroyo, Tsutsuji, Frend
"Guess not," Yaz said, observing the general confusion in response to her query. No XP to worry about then. She was as good as she was going to get strength-wise, she just needed to practice. Guard duty would be perfect for that. That also mean that she didn't have any level-based limits, which was very interesting indeed. She'd need to do some tests on that. Coupled with the fact that this was reality, instead of a video game with preset parameters to confirm to, she could do some fun things. A strange feeling began to grow in the Spear Hero's chest, a tingling swell she hasn't felt in a long time. It wasn't exactly confidence, but more a sense of rightness. She could be in control here, something she sorely lacked in her real life. She had scientific knowledge these people didn't, and she could use magic to fill any gaps. All she had to do was figure out how to use it.

"Sounds like a plan," Yaz said to Royo, rolling up the quest list and stuffing it back in her armor. It sounded like she knew the way already, which would make things easy. "You sailed here, right? Probably best if we just took the same way back. Unless you've got an aether network or something. I didn't see one when I was walking around earlier, but I'm getting a pretty big JRPG vibe from this place." Hefting her spear, the hero made for the door, headed either for the docks or for the giant floating crystal that may or may not have existed. She didn't think there was one, but you could never be sure with these places. She almost hoped there wasn't one, she wanted to ask her party some more about magic on the way.
