Paige had finished unpacking a while ago, and was spending the time stretching by her bed. Her medium cropped blonde hair was pulled tightly back into a ponytail, and she was wearing an oversized pastel purple sweatshirt and dark capri leggings. She was distracted by a knock at her door and a voice telling them about a bar. Paige quickly opened her door to find Lilly, and she sent her a nod and a quick smile.

"O-okay. I'll be there in a second, hold on." Paige said before disappearing back into her room. She didn't have very much experience with alcohol, of course, she had it before but she didn't drink diligently. Her father once said that it was the key to close friends and a good business deal. Of course, what if her new classmates judged her because of her clear lack of alcohol knowledge. None the less, Paige changed into a tan sweater and plaid mini-skirt. She took her hair down and added a hint of makeup to her face. Nothing much, it wasn't like she was going out on the town. It was basically just across the hallway!

Leaving her dorm and finding her way to the bar, the dancer found the boy from earlier and Lilly waiting there. Finding a seat, she watched as the boy poured himself what seemed to be whiskey. If that was what he was getting he couldn't judge her if she got the same thing.

"I'll have that too." Paige said, gesturing to the bottle he was holding. "If that's okay.." She didn't want to intrude or anything, what if he wanted it all for himself? No, nobody would just drink an entire bottle of whiskey and not let anyone else have any. An alcoholic might... Her brain reason, but Paige quelled the thought, she needed to stop second guessing every social decision she ever made.

Klaus jiggled his roomkey into the lock, eyes focusing on anything but the people around him. Opening his door he was greeted with a normal looking dorm room. He closed his door and let out the breath he was holding previously. He scowled, a face that he seemed to make a lot, before he dumped his stuff on his bed and sat down next to it. The back of his head touched the wall as he leaned back, shoulders slumping down. The day had already begun, he hadn’t even unpacked yet, and he felt exhausted. It was like all the worrying he was doing kept him going, and once he got a chance to sit down it felt like a wall of bricks hit him in the face. Klaus opened his eyes, finding brown hair flopped in his sight. He straightened up, running a hand through his hair to get it out of his face. Standing up he got to work. He threw the long green coat he was wearing on the bed before he started. He put all his clothes in his closet neatly, put the sheets and comforter on his bed, and set up any decorations or small appliances he had brought along. He put all the books and textbooks he had brought along on a small black shelf, and then shoved his suitcases in his closet. He shut the door and let out a noise of relief. He was finally done with unpacking. Taking a look around his room he realized how plain looking it was, but he wasn't too much for decorating. He would probably be studying at the small desk against the wall for the most part anyways.
He looked out the window, realizing the sun had gone down and it was raining. The weather definitely matched his mood, but he felt like a whole thunderstorm brewed beneath his skin. His veins crackled with anxiety, his mind a storm cloud, and his body feeling like he was thrown into a tornado. Swirling around and around, not knowing when it would all stop. Klaus sat on his new bedding, the dark blue a contrast to his pale skin. He push the palm of his hands against his eyes, taking a deep breath in and a shaky one out. He was about to get up and read a book before it was time to go to bed, but a knock sounded at his door. His head turned towards the noise, wondering who it could be. The person introduced herself as Lilly, and (by the use of the word we) he guessed that she wanted everyone in the hall to socialize at the bar downstairs. He froze, not really knowing what to say. Her footsteps trailed off, until he heard a faint knocking on the next door.
Klaus was conflicted on what he should do. From the start he promised himself he wouldn't get to know anyone here. He'd just stick to himself and not have to worry about having friends in his life. He didn't need a repeat of his past. But the thought of being a shut in during his time at the institute didn't sound like the greatest idea. He also didn't want to seem rude, though he probably already came of that way when he ignored them in the hall earlier. He rolled his eyes at himself scoffing. One drink wouldn't hurt. He got up from his bed, looking at himself in the mirror. He was pretty sure he looked okay. He had taken off the coat he was wearing before, but he still sported the black turtleneck tucked into navy blue pants. Black socks peeking out of equally black converse. He really needed to get more brighter colors in his wardrobe. His wavy brown hair was a little all over the place, but he didn't bother to fix it. He grabbed his room key and his wallet, before shoving them in his pocket. He left his dorm room, anxiety flooding the tips of his fingertips. He was pretty sure he didn't even know where the bar was. Trying to remember everything that was on the map, he headed towards what he thought was the right direction. Eventually he found the lounge. Some students were hanging out and chatting, others sat at the bar. He spotted a girl in grunge fashion with brown hair sitting at the bar. He figured she was Lilly. The person next to her he had never met. He was a blonde man wearing light washed jeans, a black t-shirt, and a dark blue button up over it. He wore a grin on his face, whisky in hand. Next was a blonde girl sitting next to him. Looking rather worried. Klaus let out a little groan when he realized he should introduce himself. He walked over, clearing his throat.
"Hey, I'm Klaus. Hawthorne. I didn't get the uh..chance to introduce myself," he said, his face grimacing at the lie. He had the chance, he just didn't want to take it. He sat down, not really waiting for an invitation too. He picked up a drink menu, looking for something he'd want to drink. Everything of course was expensive, nothing but the best for the Dartford institute. He ordered expensive old fashioned, not really caring what he ordered. When the drink came he fiddled with the small straw, feeling awkward for intruding on their conversation and only saying his name. He turned his brown eyes on them, turning up an eyebrow at the bottle in Oliver's hand and grinning slightly. "Are you really going to drink most of that?"

Oliver pulled out two more glasses setting them on the bar and filled them half way with the whiskey. He wasn't sure how they would handle it. It was a rather strong alcohol and burned on the way down. He was used to it due to his family and learned to enjoy the burn. He couldn't help but frown when Lily introduced him as Oli. He only asked his super close friends to call him that and she definitely wasn't. He gave the girl in the tan sweater a small smile. She seemed to be as shy as he was. He pushed her glass over towards her.

"It has a bit ay a burn if ye arenae used tae it." He wanted to give her a bit of a warning. Just by the look of her he could tell that she wasn't much of a drinker. He frowned when the other guy came out and boldly asked if he was going to drink the whole bottle himself. [i]' By th' swatch ay things Ah mauna be able tae sneak thes bottle awa'. He pushed his glass over towards him with a scowl. Lily wasn't much help either. He stayed behind the bar to keep a bit of a barrier between him and the others. He would have to check to see if there was anymore Blue Label hidden away that he could stash in his room. He was sure his mother wouldn't send him some if he asked.

"Eh'd prefer it is ye caa me by mah given nam 'at is Oliver." He shot Lily a hard look.

effie quickly entered her room, unlocking the door with her free hand and going in. inside it was extravagant, an armoire, a large queen sized bed- even a tv, not that theyd have much time to watch it. she made note of the scene outside her window and set her bags down on her bed.
effie then unpacked. clothes first, then personal belongings like her teddy bear, and finally personal hygiene things like her toothbrush, which she set on the sink in the huge bathroom off to the side of her room. once she was done unpacking and putting clothes away, she shoved her empty bags under the bed and sat on it.
she wondered what to do next. maybe find that girl from before? effie thought for a moment, then stood and went for the door. it was open. but she could have swore she had closed it, surely... shrugging it off, she exited the room and closed the door behind her, then followed the hallway down to where the girl had disappeared. down one flight of stairs was a bar, and by the sound of it, thats where the girl was.
effie entered the bar, stopping right where the hardwood started to take in the scenery. there were bartenders and student, she assumed, which were all hanging out by the barstools. the girl she had seen before was there talking to some people she didnt recognize, but they all looked around her age at least.
so she approached the area they surrounded and stopped a few feet away. once the conversation fell flat, effie parted her lips. "um, hi," she began quietly, unsure if she could be heard over the music. however, she brought her hand up again to wave to the girl she had seen before, hoping she was as friendly as she seemed.

indentWhen Benji reached the bar he realized that he had already been beaten to it by the group he had met earlier. He stood in the back of the room just observing the others with his head tilted to the side. He grinned as Klaus introduced himself, Ben had been intrigued by the guy earlier when he had bypassed the group to his room. Having stayed mostly silent and not made his presence known. The bright smile he wore earlier bloomed again as he quickly made his way over to the others at the bar, he took a seat crossing one leg over the other as he leaned against the bar. There was a pit at the bottom of his stomach, his mind shouted at him to get a glass as well, having been taught that it was manners to never let another drink alone (even if they were all drinking in a group). His eyes scanned the drink menu, ordering the second most expensive drinks on it, he had a fine palate.

indentAfter taking a sip of the drink and wincing internally at the bitter taste, sometimes even he could acknowledge that just because something was expensive it didn't make good. Benjamin held out his hand to Klaus with a flirty smile on his face, "I introduced myself to the others earlier before you came. I'm Benjamin Drake, I prefer Ben or Benji but you can call me whatever you'd like." His eyes trailed down Klaus' figure eventually coming back up before he gazed at the others out of the corner of eyes and being the natural mediator that he was wanted to distract everyone by changing the subject. Benji picked up the glass, taking the straw between his lips before he gently placed it back down, "Sooo, what is everyone's major?

Paige blushed a bit when Oliver smiled at her. Taking the glass, she lifted it to her lips and took a sip. His warning registered in her ears about ten seconds too late, and the whiskey began to burn as it went down her throat. With a cough, she gently laid the glass on a coaster.

"Oh wow!" Paige gasped, "Sorry. I guess I should have taken your word for it." Looking over the menu but not finding anything she really recognized, she turned back to Oliver. "Um, sorry to bother you again... but do you know anything less... abrasive I could get?" She didn't mean to be treating Oliver like a bartender, but she was completely lost when it came to alcohol.

Hearing the presence of someone new, Paige turned to see another girl, she had bright pink hair, which Paige thought was quite pretty. "Uh, hi." She said to her with a wave, she looked friendly enough. "I'm Paige." There was another new person here too, who introduced himself as Klaus. He seemed dark and brooding, more reserved. A little intimidated, Paige didn't introduce herself to him. Instead, she glanced at Lilly when she asked him about Santa Klaus. She giggled a little, but didn't want to draw too much attention to herself.

Klaus turned when he heard a quiet voice speak behind him. When his eyes landed on her, he was almost taken back by all the pink. He was instantly reminded of candy floss but he held his tongue from making any comments, as she seemed like a newborn deer standing there. He gave a little wave with his hand, not really feeling like introducing himself again. His content expression quickly turned into a frown at the comment Lily made. His lips turned downward in a sneer as his eyes grew hard. His sharp gaze flickered to Paige sitting close to her who giggled a bit. His lip twitched before he switched his eyes back on Lilly, giving her a sour smile. Irritation sitting clear on his face. “They’ve made the joke enough times that I don’t need to hear it coming from you. It’s a tad old really,” he shot back. He definitely wasn’t making the impression he wanted to have, but it was too late to turn back now. It wasn't like he was here to make friends anyways. Better to distance himself and have people hate him then have them turn up dead because he was stupid enough to get close.
Taking a look at his drink, he downed the small glass in one go before turning back to the group and smiling bitterly. He already regretted the decision to come down to the bar. He should have just stayed in his room. The whiskey and citrus in his drink burned his throat, but he didn't really care. He needed something to get through his night anyways. He poured another drink for himself, already feeling his cheeks getting a bit warm. He could tell his comment earlier towards Oliver wasn't sitting well with him, he could sense eyes glaring at him from time to time. Which he promptly ignored, taking another sip of his drink with both an irritated and probably bored expression. Though he was far from bored, the night was barely starting whether he liked it or not. He finished his second drink in thought, really just hoping the alcohol would kick in soon. If he had to be with people, he might as well be intoxicated. Oliver mentioned sneaking out some alcohol and Klaus let out a laugh, which sounded surprisingly musical coming from the bitter sounding young man. 'If you're sneaking them out, take one for me," he said, sending over an exaggerated and obviously fake smile and pouring himself his third.
His attention was drawn to a young man who approached, smile on his face as he sat down and ordered a drink. The man turned to him, and introduced himself as Benjamin Drake. Klaus raised one brow as Benji held out his hand, his eyes trailing down Klaus's figure. He took his hand, giving it a shake before returning to his drink. "I'm Klaus," he said, taking a sip as he watched Ben's eyes trail over to the rest of the group. He asked what everyone major was and Klaus resisted the urge to groan. "Neuroscience, Chemistry, Physics. I don't really know at this point, Benji," he said, stressing the nickname and also testing it out on his tongue. Klaus looked at the rest of the group, his eyes shining with probably intoxication but also a holding sort of calculation within them. He wondered what the rest of them where here for. What stories the rest of them held in their brain, little cracks of darkness and shame hidden away in neuropathways.

the botanist // location: dartford institute bar // tags: klaus, benji // mentions: everyone at the bar

Isla's afternoon had been quiet and satisfactory following her arrival at Dartford Institute. Not a soul had peeped following her entrance to her room; she appreciated the peace, despite having hoped for some introductions. It gave her room to appreciate the Institute's extravagant rooms, anyway; featuring a massive period four-pointed bed, more storage than even she could fill, and , it was more than she could have imagined would be offered to incoming students. The Institute lived up to its fame—Isla enjoyed the beauty and vintage aesthetic.

Time flew while the student adjusted the room to her liking and unpacked her belongings, including setting up new seeds in some temporary containers she'd brought along. She hoped to have the plants, full-grown and thriving by then, hopefully, as a memento of her academic career once she graduated. Isla admittedly lost herself in her head, and before she knew it, there was a gentle knock on the door. A voice peppered through the old grain of the door, introducing herself as Lilly and

Isla grinned softly to herself; she'd finally be meeting her classmates. "Ah! I'll be down—" she peered down at her hands, mottled with soil and fertilizer "—in a, uh, moment! Thank you!"

With haste, Isla shook as much of the dirt off of her hands as she could muster, wiping a cloth towel speedily over her fingers to dust off any straggling particles. She figured she looked fine in her arrival outfit—a set of olive overalls with a floral maroon shirt underneath. The girl wasn't one for fashion, anyhow. She heard doors clicking and shoes clacking down the dorm hallways, so she hastened her preparation. She slipped on her worn boots, zipping them up in a flash and jumping to a stand.

The botanist unbolted the door, peering out but seeing no others. The majority must've already congregated at the bar. She stopped to think for a moment, laughing at herself: "Wait a moment," she snorted, "I don't even drink. I guess I'll have to have a lemonade or something."

Isla persisted regardless, stepping down the antiquated stairs to where she heard chatter. Her perception served her well, and soon enough, she spotted the bar with a number of students sitting alongside it. It seemed she'd taken a bit longer than the others to descend upon the bar.

Regardless, she was glad and whispered a declaration of satisfaction to herself: "Finally found the other first years!" She trotted over quietly, hoping to not disturb the group as a boy inquired about his fellow classmates' majors. Another student, a man with a dismal aura, rattled off a number of impressively complex scientific subjects. As he quieted down, Isla saw her in to the conversation and gently replied: "I'm here for botany! Can't say I'm as much of a brainiac as the science major, though."

effie watched as a black haired girl, the same one as before that greeted her, came around to face her and another girl who introduced herself as paige. "oh, thank you!" she said happily, bringing a hand up to run it through her hair. "it actually doesnt take long at all!" effie told the girl once she turned back with her drink. "just bleach to a light blonde and put some cotton candy pink on top for about a half hour. that does the trick!" she closed her eyes and gave a smile, then opened them when the girl, lilly was her name, asked about their majors.
instinctively effies hands went to the bulky camera around her neck. "im effie jo. im majoring in art, but photography specifically." she turned her head as she noticed another girl arrive, her name was isla, and order a lemonade. "oh! ill have one too please," effie said quickly to the bartender. being underage for america, she didnt dare drink- not to say she would never break a rule, it was just this one wasnt important to her much. "hi isla! botany is really cool, i love photographing different kinds of plants and growth," she said quickly to the newer girl. effie held her camera up a little to show it off and make a point. "see, i always have it on me!"

Oliver tuned Lily out. She was just too much for him. He hadn't had enough to be able to deal with someone so bubbly yet. He grinned over at Klaus and gave him a small nod. It was good to see that there was someone else here that had a fine taste in whiskey. He would definitively be sharing a bottle with him again if he was willing. He would pick drinking with Klaus over Lily any day. He frowned when she poked at Klaus's name. What was this girl's problem? Was she just super nervous and so she was just trying too hard or was she just rude? Emptying his glass he refilled it and decided to do his best to ignore her.

He couldn't help but smile as he watched Paige take a sip. He was right. It wasn't for her. He couldn't help but chuckle a bit at her reaction. "Dornt fash yerse. Ah reacted th' sam way mah first time." He looked around the bar picking up different bottles to see what they were before putting them back. He would have to rearrange the collection one day. It was a mess. Nothing seemed to be grouped with its kind. Maybe the last class here just didn't care, but he knew it would bother him. "Ur ye wantin' somethin' wi' kergo ur withit? Ah can fix ye up somethin' either way." He wasn't sure, but she looked like she wasn't much of a drinker. That was just fine with him. He wouldn't judge her at all.

When he realized it was his time to tell the group his major he shrugged. "Me? mah majur is literature psychology."
