Hami noted the way he smiled. It wasn't a complete smile but the way it was only half curved up was kind of sweet. It made him slightly less intimidating but she couldn't help but still feel like she should hide. Even after he was nice enough to give her the candies. She was already starting to feel a little more settled. She could hear the other people in the room now, calm enough to let her ears recognize the other sounds. It was nice having the candies from Hisashi.
When he spoke, Hami looked back up at Hisashi, her gaze locking with his for a split second. It faltered for a second before coming back as she smiled brightly. "Oh! Of course!" She said, her shyness suddenly gone with the thought of telling Hisashi more about spiritual healing. "It's not quite being wounded but being compromised. Dark energy attaches to the host spirit and weakens it," she explained, completely forgetting that she was intimidated by everything just a moment ago. "I'd love to tell you more if you're ever interested. It's such a fascinating topic, spirits as well as spiritual healing," the small healer giggled softly at herself, giddy to talk about spiritual healing. It hadn't even occurred to her that Hisashi had stopped himself short from saying something. She was too excited to talk about spirits in general.
When he spoke about where he had learned about basic healing, Hami nodding, looking back at the candies in her hand. It was nice to learn about him, even if it wasn't much. He then explained each of the candies, almost as if it was second nature for him. Just the thought of that made her blush in slight embarrassment. She was a healer, the healer chosen to come with the others to represent the fire nation. Yet, here she was, learning from Hisashi what each of these candies was for. As she continued to think of it, she began to sink back into herself, her confidence from before gone again. It didn't help that the man before her took one of the candies, surprising Hami, and popping it into his mouth with a toothy grin. He was so sweet, he really was. The only problem was Hami. She didn't do well with people.
With a soft hum, she began to play with her braided hair again. To Hisashi's question, she pulled the braid to her lips, hiding her nose in it as well. "I'm just... not use to it, I guess," she explained, muffled slightly by her braid. "It's quiet back home and normally I only see one person at a time... so," she began again but as she continued, her voice just kept getting softer and softer. When she felt like it was useless to keep going, she just stopped, pulling the tin of candies closer to her chest as well as her braid. Even as he spoke about how he calmed himself, Hami still kept her gaze down. It was nice of him to offer her some advice. She just wasn't sure if she would be able to try it. "I definitely wasn't chosen for my people skills," she mumbled again. When he introduced himself as Hisashi, she looked up again, stopping to rest her gaze on his half-smile. Maybe he was right, she didn't need to be afraid of him. She still couldn't help but still be cautious about shaking his hand. A simple soft touch as she nodded. "I'm Hami. Thanks for the candies, by the way."

The ride over was uneventful. Kiya had kept to herself, watching the sky as the boat continued on. She didn't mind it, after all. Watching the world sail by as the boat continued on was a nice change. It was peaceful. As the soldier of peace for the air nation, it was nice to see. She couldn't help but smile at the thought. Even though the world wasn't always at peace, the wildlife and nature were at peace with themselves. It kept her focused, thinking about how they had peace. She wanted the nations to be peaceful with each, with everyone. She just didn't know if that was possible, though.
When the docks came into view, Kiya had taken her place by the boat's exit. She didn't want to stay too long. She had wanted to get this over with quickly. She preferred to keep things quick. Especially with all of the others that had come with. Zeru, the little brother she never had. She had watched him grow up and even helped him with his bending when they were younger. There was also Jamyang, the seemingly shy historian. Kiya wanted to protect her as well. The soldier felt very protective of the air nation as a whole. Well, actually... most of the air nation.
There was always Nol.
It was as if on cue that the annoying scoundrel showed up. Just in time to get off the boat. She just raised an annoyed eyebrow at him but let it slide seconds later. She didn't need to start this off thinking of how annoying Nol was. Someone else can do that, later. For now, she would just be content with what would soon happen. Just had to survive the pledge that the leaders all took. Then she could maybe be a little more peaceful looking.
Luckily, she did survive. However, now everyone was socializing. Kiya was tense, slightly. She wasn't completely sure if she should try and approach anyone. After all, most of the air nation had gone off in separate ways. She kept an eye on each of them, standing by the wall so she didn't stand out too much. She wasn't too worried about the others, but she just wanted to make sure. She acted a lot like a mother, sometimes. So she just stayed back, observing the others as she hid against the wall.

___Reo felt a bit loss amidst all the commotion. He was missing his family, the small quaintness of the water tribe and the familiarity of everything he had grown to love about his own culture. Reo was here now though, in the capitol as the water tribe historian and it was his duty and responibility to be adaptable to this change... he was after all an ambient water bender. The ability to change shape and form should come second nature to him, shouldn't it?
___The boy with the russet hair, something pretty uncharacteristic to a water tribe member, looked around knowing he had to be strong, he needed to participate and he needed to make his presence here and leaving home worth something. Everyone seemed busy though, they all had their place and he had yet to find his. Stepping back, he leaned slightly to the side as he stood beside a woman who seemed just as out of place as he. "Wouldn't it be nice if you could just change everything about your own property as water does, so that you could bend into the right person for the situation," he said quietly, a smirk forming on his face as he briefly looked over her clothes, she was familiar. They may not have been completely traditional of the water district in design, but he recognized the origins of the fabrics and thread, they were from home and Reo felt oddly safe speaking to her.
___That was how someone who was a stranger became familiar wasn't it? Feeling a bit cowardly for sticking to members of his own nation, Reo sighed, hoping he would eventually grow more comfortable. Reo's Amber-brown eyes moved from the crowd to the water tribe healer. "I'm Reo- also out of place and not too excited to be here," he laughed a bit. Reo held a hand out as he turned, the wall that his back once rested on was now rolling onto his shoulder as he faced her.

___"Nice to meet you Hami, and you're welcome- I actually learned that from some of the elders in my village, so I can't take all of the credit," he admitted humbly. Hisashi couldn't help his expression as it fell a little. He always knew he had a strong spiritual connection, so much so his fire had shifted in the color spectrum, but he had wondered if he had been compromised by the darkness of his past. "Can you see it as easily as you see someone's face? For example," he pointed to Princess Kiala across the room casually, but also a bit hidden. "The water nation princess, she looks a bit- compromised?" he suggested based on how Hami had discussed someone's spirit, but continued searching for a better word. "She's frustrated. I can't tell if she is irritated or angry, but just as plain as I can see her emotions, can you see spiritual darkness?" he wondered, curious if she was almost afraid of him because of any darkness that might have surrounded him. "Can you tell me anything about my spirit or is there more than goes into it than just seeing?" he tried to simplify.
___Hisashi listened tenatively to her explanation of how she was doing with everything, it made sense. For him, he was used to dealing with the elderly, the ones that had escaped to the islands, they were the living history books of the fire nation and they had never interacted with him expecting a response or action, they simply taught. Hisashi could understand her discomfort more than she even knew, he hadn't really been raised in a way that would encourage much communication, just understanding, where as she worked with spirits, not so much the mass general public. "It'll get easier, just treat it like one big consultation- you're dealing with one person at a time," he tried, not really sure if it made sense, since he had never done a consultation himself.
___"Take you and I for example, I am one person- and you are interacting with me. In an hour from now, you could be speaking to our lieutenant, or even Akari, who I have even yet to meet," he went on. "Everyday will be just one more person, and with each person it will get that much easier," he ventured, hoping it helped. One person's way of thinking was never the same as the next however, it was just how he was trying to process his own discomfort. "I know how that feels too-" Hisashi laughed, looking down at the decorative tiles in the room. It was pretty funny he hadn't thought of it sooner. "I grew up in a village of elders- I was not to speak unless spoken to- very old school thinking," he started. "I have probably the worst people skills... Which I can almost bet why the Princess wasn't too pleased I was recruited by the people, over her candidate," he explained. "But because we got chosen, with such poor people skills, that just means you're the best at what you do, and you deserve to be here, just as much, if not more than someone with exploding charisma," he nodded, knowing he could name several people in the room, but he figured it would take away from the point. "We certainly didn't talk ourselves into the job, that's for sure," he added with a laugh.
~Lights on~

Her nerves finally settling Akari felt creeping guilt gripping her heart as she watched the small Airbender hide her terror from their brief encounter. Almost as a peace offering Akari folded her hands in front of her cursing her reflexive actions, it wasn't as if she didn't have a cause but this was a peacemaking mission and if she kept defending herself from invisible threats she'd ruin their chances. As the representatives of the fire nation, Akari could feel the eyes on her and her team, it was obvious that the other nations would be wary of them after all. Smiling politely at the air benders question the young woman simply shook her head "It's not a requirement, please call me Akari" she explained not wanting to make this conversation go any worse than it already had been. Thankfully Akari felt a familiar presence approaching. Returning his nod Akari felt her body relax that much more, "Hayate," she greeted, out of the people that Akari had been able to choose Hayate was the person she'd insisted on bringing. Very few people had the princess's full trust and the lieutenant was amongst those few. Placing a hand on his shoulder Akari smiled at the pair, "If you'll excuse me," she stated as she moved away. Though he wasn't the most social, neither was Akari to be fair, Hayate would be trying his best because he believed in this project as much as the princess did.
Looking over the rest of the room the red-haired princess found herself alone staring at small pockets of people already conversing. Akari missed the peaceful silence of the temple walls already. Though she volunteered for this and fought for the opportunity to be apart of this mission Akari knew that she struggled being surrounded by so many strangers. Violet eyes landing on a tall figure leaning against the far wall watching the proceedings. Based on the robes Akari would guess air nation, fantastic, but she'd have to face them at some point, this was the primary reason Akari was here to change the perspective on the fire nation and improve its reputation. Walking towards the woman Akari keenly felt the weight of the crown on her head, a symbol that some viewed with fear and in a way Akari completely understood. She didn't trust her own family. Bowing to the woman in front of her Akari gave her a measured smile "Akari Ryuuen, I look forward to building this city together." stiff and formal seemed to be the fire princesses best, but it was better than aggressive and paranoid.

Guo found himself actually enjoying the conversation. That was not much of a surprise, but he hadn't been prepared for the other leaders to be so open and amicable with strangers. That IS sort of the point of this whole thing- to get along after all. Before he put the needles away, he held them flat in his open palm. "If you would like, I would be happy to share some of what I know, I'm sure that there are elements within my practice that reflect or are at least similar to some of your own knowledge." After he spoke, Guo slipped the needles back into the pack he used for them, making sure they were arranged properly.

Zeru's mention of flying brought Guo's attention to the airbender's staff. "Isn't it a long way from your temple to this city? How long would it take for you to fly as opposed to sailing?" He didn't mean to be presumptuous or too forward, or rude, but Guo knew how tiring it could be for him to use his metalbending all day, he couldn't imagine flying would be any easier. He is the leader for a reason, he has more knowledge and ability than many others, he oculd probably fly anywhere he wanted to. As the conversation moved onto Beifong City and what it was like, the earthbender felt the soles of his feet begin to itch. His curiosity was piqued, and being able to speak to the spiritual leader of the air tribe was something he had only dreamed of until a few months ago when he was informed he would be a part of the group for the unification mission. "That is understadable. We came by train and still haven't had a chance to see everything. All I noticed was the statue and fountain in the middle by the entrance." He couldn't help but wonder what it would be like if he tried to create a statue like that. He had honed his skill for minute control of small needles to pinpoint pressure points and open of the flow of chi in benders. He had never really put the same effort into macro bending. Sure, he could make walls and boulders like most earthbenders, but Guo was well aware he was not the best at controlloing the larger movements. That was something he hoped to work on, but when he would find the time, he had no idea.

The girl before him blinked several times before she answered him. She seemed... shy? He turned his head to accuse the princess of intimidating someone on the first day, but she was already stepping away. He could tell by the look on her face that she felt uncomfortable with whatever had just happened and Hayate felt it best to let her go, though had a suspicion that was leaving him there to continue the conversation. The firebender was aware of how guilty the princess felt at times, especially when came to addressing the people who were most directly victimized by their nation's past, but always running away from it would never help Akari become the leader she desired. As he returned his attention to the air nomad, he noticed she was avoiding eye contact and felt his own guilt rise like bile in his throat before his rage boiled away. There would be time enough to process those feelings another time, when he was not standing right in front of someone else. "Ah. I see. That is a great name. He paused for a second, taking in the rest of the room, noticing that Akari had approached someone else, and by their garb, Hayate would guess they were another member of the Air Nation. He stopped the smile from showing on his face, but Hayate was glad that the princess still seemed set on her goals, even in the midst of a busy crowd. Turning back to his conversation partner, Hayate nodded. He seems like a...lively personality to have around." Suddenly, Hayate realized that he hadn't introduced himself to her and he bowed stiffly, already mentally chastising himself for missing such a simple and crucial step. "My name is Hayate Hashimoto. And you are?"

tiki eyes kept floating to kiala, though it wasn't meant to be judgmental. she only was curious and going through a seemingly endless amounts of thoughts about her hair and her past. her story, kiala I mean, was so riveting to tiki. as a historian, one would think tiki stuck to the facts and truth rather than stories of spirits and magic. but who said that there wasn't facts in spirits and magic? stories hold magic of cultures. magic may not be proven, but it certainly was fascinating and gave hope to people. take the avatar. the avatar, in a sense, is kind of magical. they are part light spirit and able to bend all of the elements, which was just spellbinding.

tiki was pulled out of her thoughts by nol's voice, which was questioning her belief in spirits. she gave him a soft chuckle, followed by a head tilt. "you can't tell me you don't believe in it! you'll have to sit down with me one day and let me tell you the full story. I know it's not an earth nation story...but the other nations captivate me. their stories are bewildering, so I couldn't help but break into some of their history books, too." she was a little confused by nol's suspicion of spirits, mostly because he was an airbender and all. they were supposed to be the most spiritual of all the nations, right? eh, whatever the reason for his questioning of the spirits, it wasn't her business. if he wanted to tell her, he would. she wouldn't push. instead, she took the opportunity to query the next step of the day. "when do you suppose we will be going to see our new rooms? I've never been out of the earth nation so this is definitely a big change."

the only traveling that tiki has done has been in the earth nation and in her books. she's read about the other nations in detail, which is almost like visiting, just not as emotional or impressionable. she was so exhilarated to visit mock districts of the other nations. staying in this meeting hall was not what she wanted, but of course, her antsy feeling was not shown on the outsound. she was quite good at hiding her feelings, which is why most just saw her as a very shy bookworm. it's true, she didn't like a lot of conversation with strangers, but little things like new sights and discoveries got her restless. she was close to just walking out of the meeting hall and wandering around on her own, but she knew that her other earth nation comrades wouldn't be too happy with those actions. it would probably look bad on their name so she decided against it...for now.

Zeru looked at the needles as Guo held them out. "I'll take you up on that sometime." He smiled as he watched the man slip the needles away into their bag. Zeru felt it was such an honour to be able to see and learn about the cultures of other nations. I mean, if he stayed at the temples all his life he probably would've never known about things like acupuncture. Yet another reason to be grateful for this opportunity.

Tapping his fingers against the wooden staff, Zeru brought over in front of him so that Guo could get a better look. "Hm.. well, that all depends on the weather, air currents, things like that." He explained, his head tilted slightly in thought. "It was all smooth sailing on the ship, and the air was a nice breeze for most of the way, so I'd say it'd take almost just a little bit longer than the ship. Though if you paced yourself right and bend the air around yourself at the right times, then you could even say it would be faster." Enthusiasticly ranting, Zeru stopped himself once he realized he might be boring the poor fellow. "Sorry, you probably don't want to hear all that." The young airbender rubbed his neck sheepishly.

Zeru was a true master with an airbending staff, both whilst in combat and on travels. In fact, that was his specialty when it came with airbending. Since airbending staffs were meant to amplify an air benders abilities it was just an enhancement that helped Zeru get even further with the art. He used in most every technique (regardless of if he needed it) and even made up a few of his own. People who watched him bend with it would even go far enough to say that it appeared as though he was dancing with a partner and, without it, it looked like something was missing even if they didn't know what.

He was even skilled enough that, when traveling, he could reach some of the furthest distances without needing a break. Normally, airbenders had to bend the wind around their staff to get it to fly but Zeru had figured out his own little way of riding the currents. Sure, there were times when he had to add a breeze of his own to give the glider strength but it still beat having to exert energy the whole time.

Moving his staff back to rest against his chair, Zeru moved his hands back to his lap. "I've never had the chance to get on a train. How was it? You've probably been on a few, being in the earth kingdom and all." The only time Zeru's even seen a train was whenever he flew over the Earth Kingdom while going to the other temples.

Derya- Water Healer 2

Postby bugiscool » Sat Jul 11, 2020 8:41 am

Derya I I Water Nation Healer I I 21 I I Tagged: Reo

Derya stayed on the wall observing all the people in it. Her blue eyes always shifting to observe other group interactions. Her eyes always seemed to wander back to the white-haired water tribe princess. Her role would be a difficult one, she is essentially one of four people destined to make this whole dream city come true. If she fails, or if any of them fail this whole get-together would have been for nothing. The amount of weight that must be on her shoulders was enough for Derya to have pity for her... just for a moment though.

When she stopped watching the princess of the water tribes her eyes analyzed the other nation's representatives. All of them were unique in their own ways, just based on appearances. One person did catch her eye though. Someone acting differently than what one would expect of her status and bending type. She had magenta-colored hair and radiant violet eyes. Her appearance alone told Derya what nation she hailed from. She was definitely a fire bender and seeing how another fire bender approached her conversation with an air bender, or what she could assume, she had to be their princess. Normally the higher ranking people are approached by the subordinates not the other way around. Especially if it looked like she needed to be rescued from a conversation. Derya watched the red-head silently pull herself away from the conversation and move elsewhere. Her quietness made Derya curious, not many people were quiet like herself and it made her want to at least a small conversation later. Obviously right not would not be a good time to converse. There were way too many people and far too many expectations of meeting almost everyone here. Derya was not even going to try, today everyone would be putting on their best face in order to get off on the right foot with everyone. So Derya knew everyone might not be as honest or truthful as they might be tomorrow or within a week whenever people's patience wears thin and crack. That's when people will show their true intentions is with time. Everyone always has an ugly spot in their heart, and she knew she was not an expectation too that.

Her silence was disturbed whenever she felt the presence of someone next to her. She looked to her side and saw a russet hair man. She turned her head back to continue watching the crowd, hoping maybe he would remain silent. She was wrong. "Wouldn't it be nice if you could just change everything about your own property as water does, so that you could bend into the right person for the situation," He spoke up, her eyes not even leaving the crowd of people in front of her. She mentally huffed at his statement. Water would not change its properties unless it was forced to. If left alone it would just flow. When it encounters something in its path it follows the path of least resistance in order to go around it. If it were not for the extreme heat from the sun then water would not evaporate. If not for the freezing temperatures then water would not freeze. If not place over a heat source water would not boil. The changes water has to do are out of necessity. Derya looked at the man again, he wore similar clothes which made her come to the conclusion that he was a water bender. Clearly not the princess nor the lieutenant because those pairs normally stick together. So this had to be the historian. When he spoke again she learned his name. "Reo, you must be the historian. A small shame you think water wants to change its property willingly and not because it is forced to. Water doesn't seek out to change its property, it only does so due to the changes in its environment. To state, you want to force yourself to be a certain person for each circumstance means you'll lose authenticity. Would it not be better to stay true to yourself and morals rather than change them to fit the ideology of others just to be able to fit in?" She paused for a second, her words while sounding harsh was delivered in a calm and smooth voice, yet they still had a cold bite to them. Derya was never one to hide her true thoughts or feelings from anyone. However, looking at the man again Derya cursed at herself slightly. He was supposed to be an ally, not someone to embarrass. She took his hand when he reached out, " I do not want to sound insulting. I blame the sailors that raised me for my tough and gruff attitude. My name is Derya, a pleasure to meet someone from the water nation." Derya hoped maybe her statement before wouldn't turn him mad. She really responded without thinking and while she meant it and wouldn't take it back she hoped maybe he'd overlook it. To make enemies within one's own nation would be frowned upon. Especially as their healer. She cursed at herself again for not being more careful with what she said. She was here to prove herself as she was chosen for her skills. She did not want to let that reputation be tarnished by her own big mouth.

Even the seasons change-04 ━ Where we stop nobody knows-02

Hami smiled softly, excited to learn more about Hisashi, even if only a little. "You learned well enough to put it to work for you, though," she hummed in response. She wanted to be appreciative of him, even if he would try to give someone else some credit. She didn't know the elders he had spoken of, she only knew him. Well, knew him as in his name and that he had candies that helped with different things. That was enough, though. After all, it had only been a short time that they had been talking.
When the conversation moved to how she saw people's spirits, Hami blinked. She shrugged, trying to think of how to explain it. "Well, yes and no. The stronger the spirit, the easier I can see it. However, say if someone has a weaker spirit, it takes someone who is well connected to the spirits. I'm not perfect so I occasionally have difficulty with seeing spirits unless I am specifically looking for it. I can tell with you, your spirit is connected differently. If I took a closer look later, I could tell you more, of course." As she rambled on about how she saw the spirits of others, her hands moved with her words. She was trying to keep it simple for Hisashi, however. If she had left in every detail, she could talk for days on just this topic. "So, looking at the water nation's princess, I would see her and then if I look at just her spirit," Hami paused as she glanced at the woman from across the room. What she saw was not what she was expecting. What her eyes saw within the Water Nation's princess was a spirit. A spirit staring right back at her. Hami blinked for a second, staring right back at the spirit. It was at that minute she remembered why she didn't want to be here.
These people all had weird spirits within them.
With her discovery, Hami moved closer to Hisashi. Her eyes glanced around the room, coming to rest upon another woman from the water nation. As she watched her, the spirit within her came into view. Seeing the same spirit as the princess but in black made Hami press herself into the man she had been talking to just a moment ago. Even knowing that there were strong spirits within this room, Hami's nerves were back to being on edge. Spirits didn't just stare back at her. It chilled her to the very bone at the thought.
When Hisashi spoke again, Hami glanced up at him from against his side. His suggestion didn't seem too bad. The only problem was that she couldn't get it out of her head. There were too many people in this room for Hami to feel any sort of comfortable unless she was talking about spirits. Even when Hisashi used her and him as an example, she shook her head, looking away again. "They might not be as nice as you, though," she explained, shuffling her feet beneath her. "And you're people skills seem better than mine," she mumbled, a small yet shy smile gracing her lips as she thought back to how he looked with his half-smile.

Kiya had been told before that she could look intimidating. After all, she was much taller than most average women. As a result of her height, she had grown up with a tense posture. Something between ready to strike and not enjoying her exact position. However, those weren't always true. She just couldn't break the habit of standing like that. So, she hadn't expected anyone to approach her. At least, not anyone from outside of the air nation. Especially with Zeru being a close friend, she couldn't really scare him off with just her normal stance. She just accepted that fact. What she never predicted was someone from one of the other nations approaching her.
Although she knew that there would be some sort of socializing, Kiya had not expected anyone to actually approach her. She had been waiting for a better time to actually approach the others. Yet, here she was, being approached by the fire nation's princess. The crown perched on her red locks was a dead giveaway. Kiya couldn't find it in herself to show any type of fear, though. After all, the leaders were all here to bring some sort of peace amongst one another with this mission. So, the soldier just stayed relaxed. She was still ready for any type of attack, however.
As the princess introduced herself with a bow, Kiya raised a single brow before smiling softly. A welcoming sight crossing her features. Pushing herself off the wall to stand straight, she returned the bow. "It's nice to meet you. I'm Kiya Noriko. I hope that we can work together to bring peace," she replied, standing straight once she finished. Although she had pushed off the wall just seconds ago, she found herself leaning back against it. "If it's easier, you don't have to be formal, Princess Akari. I'm just a soldier, after all," she explained, her posture returning to her tense normalcy. She never wanted her allies, or even future allies, feeling like they needed to be formal. It made it harder for Kiya to connect with them, also making it difficult for her to work well with them. However, she would still show respect. This woman before her was royalty, after all.

___Reo's eyes widened slightly and he couldn't help but flinch as he felt his inner self and soul get kicked right out of his body. Ouch, he thought, gritting his teeth. He exhaled though as he prepared to counter, almost agitated with her degredation of his views on water's impressive resiliance to change. "I am the historian," he nodded, a soft smile on his face as he fought the urge to argue or rebute her comments on his character analysis, she did after all explain her origins which meant the world to him. Knowing where a person came from was like starting a map of who they had become in that moment, and getting to know a person was just filling in the blank spaces left behind.
___"It was only a little insulting, but don't worry, I won't hold it against you," he smiled, looking out to the crowds grouped off and talking around them. "You may even be a little right... I feel like I look at water like that because I admire the adaptability," he nodded. "I never thought about it like forcing water into a different state, I guess I just imagine it like... " he trailed off, his right hand coming to his mouth as he rested his chin on his thumb. "This might sound weird- but I'll do my best- if you throw me for example, into a large room and I'm clearly not comfortable, I eventually do adapt and am able to have a conversation. It's true its not my ideal state, but like boiling water, I do warm up when heat or pressure is applied," he tried to explain his thoughts, the best he could without arguing. "That doesn't go to say though, I would eventually disappear into thin air like evaporated water if I stay too long," he laughed a bit.
___Reo hoped it would lighten the mood a bit, but he was no conversationalist. "It's nice to meet you too Derya," he smiled, shaking her hand. "So you grew up on a boat? How are you liking land?" he asked, curious if she missed being on the water, for him he felt trapped on a boat, so it was interesting to learn a new perspective.

___Hisashi smiled, looking down with a nod, she was right. He never really did think much of himself, but at the very least he was able to do something with the small amount of chance he was given in life. "It's easy to practice something you love," he finally replied, after much thought. "That's why you're here too, I can imagine? Best healer for the fire nation sent to the capitol. I don't know a single soul who knows even a quarter of what you just explained to me," he laughed lightly, not too sure if he understood it all, himself. "And I'm a historian, so that is probably a bad thing," he joked a little, his left hand moving to the back of his head for a small scratch of nervousness.
___"It does make sense though, you would make an excellent teacher, if that was something you were interested in," he complimented, admiring the way she talked with her hands. He always did say you could tell when someone loved what they were talking about. Hisashi was constantly told he didn't have the ability to teach, he was too quiet, and didn't have the patience when someone slacked off, which students sometimes do. "I'm not very good at explaning things to others, past basics anyways," he added, for dexterity. Hisashi listened as she went on to ascess the water princess's spirit. He noticed a shift in Hami though, was that a spiritual shift, or was he just reading her, he couldn't tell the difference. As Hami's body pressed into his, he almost flinched, wanting to pull away from the discomfort of the unfamiliarity of physical contact. Hisashi could feel her unease though.
___"Hami?" he began to question, but went quiet as she spoke. "I'm nice?" he repeated her. "I think you have a bad nice-radar," he laughed a bit. Pushing his discomfort aside, he exhaled and moved his arm to the side, to rest on her back, hoping it was comforting and not too forward. "Do you want to go sit outside with me? I think fresh air might be helpful, less people, and spirits," he surmised, saying the last word quietly. Turning his body, the tall fire nation historian gently guided Hami out of the large conference hall. "Or is in here any better?" he asked, wondering if the empty hallway had been at all more comfortable. "Sorry- I don't know much about what you do, but even I, someone who cannot read spirits, could tell you were not okay..." he explained, hoping she wouldn't be mad or scared of him for that matter since he had kind of taken over the situation.
___"And for what it's worth, your people skills are great,"
~Lights on~

Hami always found herself being nervous around others, no matter how they interacted with her. However, she suddenly felt much more nervous than normal when Hisashi called her the best healer in the fire nation. She hid her face from him, turning her gaze to her feet as her cheeks burst out in a soft pink blush across her face. As she spoke, her arms waved in front of her, trying to deny what he had said. "No! There has to be others much better than me! I'm not good... at least... not that good..." She trailed off after she finished blurting out her words. She was not the type to feel like the best at something. She always saw herself as only a little bit good at anything at most. "If I'm the best, then I would be perfect. Perfect leaves no room for improvement, right?" She asked, her brown eyes meeting golden ones. "We are all good, but there is always more to know. Even with you, right, chosen fire nation historian?"
At the thought of being a teacher, Hami glanced up at Hisashi. She held her head up before letting it fall again as she shook her head. She didn't trust herself around adults. She always thought children were worse than them. She would be a terrible teacher. "Children are scary, too," she whispered softly, more to herself than Hisashi. Though, when he called out his own ability to teach, she scrunched her nose up slightly. "You did great with me, though," she started, opening her mouth to say something else before closing it once more. She was about to offer to let him teach her more about what he knew but that seemed too forward. So, she left it at just the compliment.
She didn't notice Hisashi's unease. She was too busy trying to hide from the spirits that she was now suddenly aware of staring at her. Hami just wanted to disappear. It was obvious how much she hated being there all of a sudden. She was so distracted she had almost missed Hisashi's words. Well, missed all of them.
She pried her eyes away from the other people in the room, glancing up at the tall historian from against his side. Standing against him made her feel tiny. It actually made her feel better. She was a smaller target to spot than Hisashi was. "My nice-radar works perfectly fine. Why wouldn't I find you nice?" She questioned, her tone a little calmer than when she had first discovered the spirits staring. She was slightly surprised by Hisashi's arm. However, she couldn't find it in herself to be afraid of the historian anymore. He may look intimidating but she didn't feel like she should feel that way about him. Especially when he was offering to go outside of the big room with her. She was quick to nod, happy to get away from everyone else.
Without resisting, she let Hisashi lead her out. Once they were in the empty hallway, Hami found it much easier to breathe. She liked being around barely anyone. When he paused, asking if the hallway was good, the healer hummed in agreement. "It is, thanks."
When Hisashi spoke again, Hami lifted her gaze to meet his. She still stayed against his side. She didn't know if he minded or not but she felt comfortable being closer. She could hide behind him and disappear, it seemed. She thought back to the spirits she had seen, though. She couldn't stop herself as her gaze dropped again. "I don't get spirits who stare back, normally," she explained, embarrassed to say it. It may have been normal to be scared but she still felt bad about surprising Hisashi with her sudden mood change. "I'm sorry," she apologized, softly.
When he said her people skills were great, Hami just hummed softly in a shy laugh. "I just stared at the water nation princess like she would eat me whole. Are my people skills still that good?" She asked, fidgeting with her fingers ever so softly against Hisashi's side.
