alaynah glanced over herself in the mirror. she hadn’t wanted to go to this stupid party, especially not after her dad preformed. now everybody would ask to meet him, and wannabe rappers would beg her to arrange studio time. plus, she hadn’t been to one of these things ever since she got back. she was almost certain that she would be ridiculed and laughed at until she left in a miserable heap of tears and regret. so, why was she going to this dreadful event? because the new boy next door asked her to.
kam came as a blessing in a time that alaynah needed a friend. they hadn’t known eachother for long, but she appreciated that he didn’t know anything that had happened in the past six months. it gave her a clean slate. and plus, she finally had somebody to ball out with. one thing about upper east side manhattan- there weren’t any athletes. deciding that her hair looked too frazzled, she slicked it into a bun on top of her head, using a toothbrush to slick down her baby hairs. though the dress called for strapping heels, she had simply put on her retro 11’s. besides, it wasn’t like what she wore could possibly make them think less of her. grabbing her phone, she texted kam. be outside in a minute. she typed, and then sent. she was giving him a ride to the school. a part of her dreaded him going to this, because then he would know about everything that had transpired, and might not want to hang out with her.
she walked downstairs and out of her front door, locking it behind her. her mom was still working in connecticut, and since the charity festival was over, her dad would be going on tour again. she walked to her red mercedes convertible which was parked on the street in front of the house and unlocked it. kam was standing beside the car, and she put it into ignition.
“i hope you know that you’re probably not even going to like these people. they’re literally the worst” she said, thinking of ariana. and then those who were quick to turn their back on her because of a silly, stupid rumor.
