Harlow smiled, he enjoyed the banter. "It's definitely the vibe," he copied the gesture the big man had made, "That and I'm probably the only non-local here," he shrugged.
"Sure," he replied to the man's suggestion, "I'd rather have someone who knows the area at my side then just wander aimlessly. As the wonderful deputy said, Don't wanna have to send out a search party. Especially just because some well-meaning idiot thought that joining a search party while visiting a new town was a good idea." At the last part, Harlow shot the Alpha a bright helpless smile. He knew he hadn't been very successful in his goal of befriending or at least getting friendly with the Alpha. He hadn't even got a name. But Harlow didn't really mind, there was a lot of other things you could learn about people just from small talk and banter; Mannerisms and such. Though not getting his trust meant it would be harder to gather the info he personally wanted. Harlow wasn't going to push his luck. He had hoped making a fool of himself and doing the opposite of what I hunter would normally do would work but, he couldn't blame the guy for the lack of trust. Harlow would just keep up with the talkative clueless visitor act and hope that it would either eventually wear down the man or he would just hit up another pack member (once he could get someone to tell him who else they had pinned) for info instead.
As Harlow followed the Alpha he observed how tense the man looked. It wasn't any evidence to allow him to judge the wolf pack one way or another, but Harlow found it important to note nonetheless. Swatting at a bug hovering around his face, he decided to bring up Bite for lack of anything else to talk about that didn't start with a question in the direction of the larger man. Most of the questions would've been normally harmless, i.e. 'Do you hike around here often?' or 'Do you usually have animal attacks like this?', which in this specific circumstance were real no-goes at the moment, so Bite it was.
"You know my dog would love this," Harlow remarked taking a moment to look up from searching for tracks, "I was thinking about bringing her but I didn't want her to get shot ya'know." After a second he continued, "Especially cause she's got some wolf in her. I recused her four years ago now, they said she was too domesticated and couldn't be returned to the wild, so I kept her." No one had told Harlow Bite was too domesticated but when he had first gotten her out he had brought her out into the wild and waited for her to run free. But the stubborn wolf didn't go anywhere instead staying at Harlow's side and comforting him the best a wolf could. He couldn't hold back the small smile that drifted across his face whenever he thought of that memory. He had been in a bad spot after Roxanne was killed and Bite's companionship was probably one of the few things that kept him from wasting away and becoming a shell of a person.
