Dakota was busy laughing at Crane getting chewed out over the radio when she got Lyall's next round of texts. She glanced at her phone before clapping him on the shoulder, "Looks like you can't come to lunch after all- have fun refiling those reports." Lindsay had not been happy when she contacted them so now Jacob Crane had to skip his and Dakota's usual lunch and go back to the station instead.

"What? You're not going with me!?"

"No way dude, as much as I love watching Linds' tear you a new one I have lunch plans." She was grinning, happy that she would see one of her best friends soon, especially with everything that had happened lately. Crane was grumbling and complaining all the way to the station but Dakota didn't do much more than laugh at him. When they finally parked Dakota shoved his shoulder slightly, "Hey I'll catch you after lunch okay? Maybe when we get off we can go do something."

A smile pulled at Crane's mouth even if he didn't want it to, "Movie marathon?"

That turned Dakota's grin into a full blown smile, "Sounds like a plan!" She threw an arm around him in a quick hug before getting out, "Now! Go fix your paperwork, I've gotta get to lunch." Crane yelled a goodbye at her as she hopped into her truck and pulled out of the parking lot. The drive was short, it was kept from getting quiet by the blare of her music that she half sung along to. Dakota's fingers tapped excitedly on her steering wheel, today was a good day for her. She was back at work, got to hangout with Crane, and would get to hangout with her friends again.

The old truck ambled to a stop a short ways off of the other vehicles at the farm. Dakota made an excited little noise and jumped out, locking the truck as she took off sprinting towards the pack. The first of her two favorite idiots that she caught sight of was Johann but he was already on the other side of the fence, and therefor temporarily safe from her affection. She was happy to see Annie and Maka too, but they weren't the ones she was after. At catching sight of Lyall getting out of the car, alive and healthy, a weight was suddenly off of her shoulders she hadn't even been aware of, "Lyall!" She pivoted sharply and ran at him, only slowing enough at the end so that she didn't knock him completely off of his feet as she jumped and threw her arms around him. "I missed you! It's never the same when you're gone." Lyall Raynard was absolutely one of her most favorite people in the world and Dakota wasn't afraid to show it.

╚═════════════════════☾☼☽═════════════════════╝

As Tema responded to her question dismissively, Farris noticed something in her voice that seemed off. She couldn't clam to know the woman well enough to accurately guess exactly what she was thinking, but Farris had been around enough people to know when something was being omitted. However, knowing that pushing a casual acquaintance further wouldn't yield anything helpful, she simply let it go, figuring that if Tema had wanted to talk about it, she would have. Shrugging it off, she bit into her fish and chips, moaning happily, and fighting the urge to lick her fingers as Tema began commenting on her work. "Well, ah, yeah. I do," Farris stated, continuing carefully, "It's not easy work, and I move around a lot. Plus, the people I work with can be...difficult, but it's important, what I do. I don't always love it, and some days I think I'd be better off if I just went into a different profession but...this is the only job I've ever done. And like I said, it's important so..." she trailed off, not quite sure how to continue. Normally in this situation she would easily come up with some lie about what exactly she did, but it felt nice to be honest (or as honest as she could be) for a moment.

As she thought about how to continue, her eyes landed on the milkshake and with a wide smile she grabbed the two straws sitting next to it, ripping off their paper wrapping and slipping them into the drink. Wordlessly she offered Tema one, though before she bent down to sip on her own, she moved out of the booth to throw away the straw wrappers. As she was throwing them away, she glanced out the window and caught sight of a blonde woman next to a car, handing the driver food. For a moment she almost overlooked the exchange, but something about the man caught her attention, and with a silent gasp she realized that it was the man from the funeral, the one who had approached Jack. Immediately, she pulled out her phone, sending a quick text to the leader and Bright, 'Saw man from funeral, driving around with 2 others - packmates? Currently @ diner, will try to follow, also might have potential lead here,' before adding the man's license number and slipping her phone discreetly back into her jacket.

As she returned to the table, she made an apologetic face, "Sorry, but I just got a text from my boss, and I might have to leave soon. I'd really love to talk again, maybe do lunch another day?" she offered, genuinely interested in seeing Tema once more. As she pulled her wallet out of her pocket and placed some bills on the table for lunch, she continued, "And, listen, if it's not asking too much, seeing your mom's journals would be really helpful-I keep hitting dead ends as far as tracking goes. Here, take this," she paused to scribble her number down onto a napkin with one of the pens she always carried on her, "and feel free to contact me whenever," she finished, heading towards the door, though not before bending and pulling the other woman into a quick half hug on impulse. Ducking her head to hide the blush seeping over her cheeks, she hurried to the door, pulling it open just as the car pulled away.

Cursing quietly under her breath, Farris made a note of the direction it was traveling; thankfully the town was small enough that she was able to see which road out of Cranberry the vehicle had taken. Without missing a beat, she turned and headed in the direction of the bookstore, praying that Bright was still there.

𝐋𝐲𝐚𝐥𝐥 - no. 9

Postby Wallflower11 » Wed Apr 29, 2020 10:47 am

𝐋𝐲𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐑𝐚𝐲𝐧𝐚𝐫𝐝
| Location - Diner/Car/Smiths' Barn | tagged/interacting - Maka, Annie, Johann, Dakota, |

Lyall thought it was a small miracle that Johann left him to his thoughts when he returned to the car. If he were Johann he would be asking questions. But his brother knew him better than that, there was no screaming, no fur, no blood, everything was fine, mostly. His brain was still a mess his emotions crashed all over the place as his wolf paced. Leaving the diner had calmed the beast and he left Lyall to his own devices. This usually meant Lyall's emotional state would be more panicky and scared than angry and violent. His wolf liked to strike out and defend while his human side would rather curl up into a ball and hide somewhere he knew was safe. Johann flicked on the radio saving Lyall from the hurricane inside his head. Lyall let out a small sigh focusing on the story on the radio about repaving streets. Something that was long needed but left some of his accounting clients boiling about taxes. The noise centered him, he closed his eyes and breathed deeply.

By the time Makataz returned to he was no longer shaking, his emotions still raw he didn't greet her when she entered the car. It didn't help that he was embarrassed by his meltdown in the diner and the fact she had probably seen it or at least the results of it in the glaring crack in the glass door. Though he wasn't sure Makataz had ever seen one of his incidents he was sure she knew of them and would at least somewhat understand the reason he was giving her a bit of a cold shoulder at the moment.

They pulled up outside the Smiths' old barn, Johann got out of the car commenting about it being the perfect day for a picnic. Lyall waited for everyone to exit the car before exiting himself, he needed a minute to make sure he was ready to interact with the rest of his pack. By the time he got out of the car, everybody was already over the fence.

"Lyall!" called an all too familiar voice from behind him. Lyall swung around to see Dakota barreling towards him. Despite being an even foot shorter than him and slowing down so she didn't run him over, Lyall was still almost knocked over by his best friend's strength. Her hug made a huge smile form on his face as his worries seemed to wash away."I missed you! It's never the same when you're gone."

"Is it? I wouldn't know, I'm not here," he teased, wanting a little time without worry before he had to talk about what happened at the diner. Once they made it to the fence, he vaulted it no problem. "How are you hanging in there?" he asked in a more serious tone. This whole thing had been rough on everyone and as much as he wanted to forget everything and just go back to normal he did want to make sure Dakota was doing alright. "You settling into being Beta all right? You know there is no one I would rather have as pack Beta than you Kota." He lightly punched her arm in a playful way. Dakota was brilliant and a great leader the pack was lucky to have her.

They were a bit behind the others getting to the barn.

She tuck her tongue out defiantly at his teasing, "Okay, rude! I'm trying to be sweet here." Dakota was grinning though, so it was obvious that she wasn't bothered by what he was saying. Really, more than anything she was just happy he was smiling. To her, Lyall just got too inside of himself sometimes and it never seemed to make him happy. Dakota followed him over the fence without a moment of hesitation. She was small but her athletic ability made things like this easy and fun for her. She walked a little on the quick side to keep pace with him while trying to also catch up with everyone up ahead. While walking, she kept her senses about her. Dakota was a half decent fighter, but her specialty lay more in tracking and scenting than anything else. The smells and sounds around them filed in to her brain comfortably.

Her head perked up when he started talking again. "How are you hanging in there?" At his tone Dakota ducked her head, letting her hat hide her face for the moment that it took to put on a smaller smile. She was tired of frowning and scowling. At the very least, she could find some joy in her friends around her even if the topics sucked.

"Its uh... its a lot." She took off her hat for a moment to fix her hair before putting it back on. The smile she wore was an odd mix between settled and stressed, "Everything 's changing. But, there's nothing we can't get through as long as the pack sticks together. Yeah?" She did the best she could to genuinely believe that, and for the most part Dakota did. But hunters, this whole thing, it was unpredictable at best. There were so many moving pieces. Too many, really.

With the turn in conversation to her new position in the pack, Dakota laughed wryly. "Oh look who's being all sweet now!" She waved her hand vaguely, "It's another changing thing. New title new rank but I'm happy to do it as long as it helps us keep everyone safe and happy." No matter how complicated some things got, Dakota always knew were she stood when it came to taking care of her family- or the closest thing she had to it, the pack. "How about you?" She knew Johann and Lyall were pretty much brothers and that Lars meant a lot to her friend. She couldn't imagine how he felt about not being here when it all went down.

It was only after listening to his response that she hummed thoughtfully and stretch until her joints popped. "Okay! I'm done with all the serious stuff for now. Lets go!" Dakota grabbed Lyall's arm and started dragging him forward as best as she could.

Johann Vidar | tagged: (mentions: the pack) | location: town
╚════════════════════☾☼☽════════════════════╝

Johann smiled as he heard Kota arriving at the fence and greeting Lyall warmly. However much he wanted to go back to them, he knew that they'd catch up soon enough, and he wanted to give them a bit of time to talk together first without him butting in. Knowing that the rest of the group would be right behind him and wanting a second to himself, Johann made his way to the barn, the path as familiar as the faces of his pack. The aspens swayed around him, casting their dancing shadows on the ground and he took the time to inhale deeply, savoring the sounds and beauty of nature as he all too quickly arrived at the barn. Johann had known the Smiths since he was a boy, and they were always happy to have the pack on their grounds, so he felt no guilt in opening up the old doors and stepping inside the shade. Immediately Johann got to work, pulling down the stacked benches from their usual place along the back wall and dragging them out into the sunshine, forming a small circle so everyone could sit and eat together. Satisfied with his handiwork, Johann took a seat on one of the benches and waited for the rest of the pack to arrive, laying out the lunch boxes next to him as he did so.

『 Tema 』- no. 18

Postby Wallflower11 » Wed Apr 29, 2020 1:38 pm

『 Tema Snow 』
| Location - Diner | tagged/interacting - Farris |

"That makes sense," Tema nodded, there seemed to be something within Farris' words that made Tema think that cataloging wolves was all she did for a living but Tema wasn't going to push that farther for all she knew she was just reading too much into it.

As Farris trailed off the two women lapsed into a comfortable silence eating their food. Tema took the straw Farris offered her dipping it into the milkshake, it was so rich and sweet. Farris got up and threw out the straw wrappers. Tema watched her as she left the table trying to ignore how cute the brunette was. She was going to force herself to just look away till she saw Farris staring out the window, before pulling out her phone presumably sending someone a text. Werid she followed her gaze to a car sitting outside, she recognized two of the people in the car, Johann Vidar, Lars' son, was sitting in the driver's seat taking food from a tall blonde in an orange skirt, and her ginger anti-stalker sat in the passengers' seat he looked rough like he had seen a ghost. It made Tema's heart hurt to see anyone so haunted. It reminded her of her mother and her panic attacks. She quickly turned away not wanting anyone to see her staring.

Farris returned to the table," Sorry, but I just got a text from my boss, and I might have to leave soon. I'd really love to talk again, maybe do lunch another day?"

"Sure, that would be great!" Tema replied she would love to see Farris. Even if Farris was setting of "this person might be a spy or something" alarms in Tema's head.

"And, listen, if it's not asking too much, seeing your mom's journals would be really helpful-I keep hitting dead ends as far as tracking goes. Here, take this," Farris handed Tema her phone-number neatly scribbled on to a napkin in her wonderful handwriting. Tema was pretty sure she swooned.

"It's not too big a deal I'll let you know when I find them," Tema replied nodding. Farris pulled her into a quick half-hug leaving Tema a bit bewildered by her own fluttery emotions and quickly left. Tema turned to look out the window in time to see the car pull away. Farris took off in the direction of the bookstore.

Tema stared at her half-eaten plate of food, wondering if she should listen to the little voice inside her that said to chase after Farris. She didn't want to be stalker-y or anything it was just this whole thing was starting to rub her the wrong way. "Like it wasn't weird from the beginning" she thought, giving in to the curiosity and instinct that she would probably regret later. If worse comes to worst she could lie and say she left something at the bookshop and look around for a couple of minutes. Maybe apologize to Elowyia for being rude this morning. Tema nodded to herself, "This was a good idea." She took a deep breath putting some more money on the table in case Farris didn't count right, if Farris did, well Edith probably deserved a big tip.

Tema zipped out the door doing her best to stay mousy and noticeable something she was fairly good at from years of trying to avoid talking to people. She followed Farris at a distance enough to make it not at all seem like she was following and more like she was walking in the same direction but didn't want to bother her because she was working.

Bright Malinon ♆
Second in Command| Location ➵ Bookstore | Mentions ➵ Elowyia
▬ ▬ ▬ ▬ ▬ ▬ ▬ ▬ ▬ ▬ ▬ ▬

Bright nodded slightly, agreeing with her. "Yes, I'd fancy dying surrounded by books as well. Not in a bookstore, though. A library or perhaps the national archive. A place full of knowledge and history. Life and death." He rolled his neck from side to side, sighing as it cracked. The muscle still felt a bit stiff from being in the same position for most of the night. "And listen, I know I'm ugly and all, but no need to compare me to the Frankenstein dude." He grumbled indignantly. "Besides." He jerked his chin at her. "A little more makeup and you'd be twinning with the zombie bride. God, she was hideous."

Bright startled as the loud laughter ripped out of her, leaning back slightly as she started choking, even though thre were several feet between them. He frowned as she laughed, now regretting having shown her. It was a more suiting style for people with smaller and more feminine faces, but Bright's was the opposite: strong, manly, and dark. Deciding to take advantage of her choking, he hopped off the counter and took the chance to give her some hard pats before sitting back down on the counter, looking down at her. Perhaps she had managed to summon Satan after all. She certainly sounded like it.

He smirked at Elowyia as her laughter came to a halt, giving a small, self-satisfied wriggle. He laughed loudly as she shoved him, moving back as she turned around and climbed on top of the counter, lauding himself for causing her to get into a frenzied state. He chuckled as she flailed around awkwardly, looking much like a seal to him. Or perhaps a penguin-seal hybrid. Maybe a walrus?

The last thing Bright was expecting was to be sprayed like a dog. He growled loudly with indignation, not fond of this sort of treatment. His skinned glistened as a single water drop trailed down his neck and into his shirt, making him extremely uncomfortable. There was something horrible about the feeling of liquid rolling down into clothes. Quick as lightning, he gripped her ankle and spun her around, maneuvering her with ease to hang off the counter, her face a foot from the ground. A good amount of her weight was being supported by Bright's arm, which was geared to drop at any time. "I wouldn't do that again." He warned lowly.

𝙴𝚕𝚘𝚠𝚢𝚒𝚊 - 26

Postby NoApologies » Wed Apr 29, 2020 2:33 pm

𝙴𝚕𝚘𝚠𝚢𝚒𝚊|𝙻𝚘𝚌𝚊𝚝𝚒𝚘𝚗; 𝙱𝚘𝚘𝚔𝚜𝚝𝚘𝚛𝚎|𝚃𝚊𝚐𝚐𝚎𝚍; 𝙱𝚛𝚒𝚐𝚑𝚝
Elowyia froze, tensing as she hyper focused on the warmth of the man's arm beneath her. Her grip on the spray bottle loosened and then gave, the plastic knocking into her face before tumbling to the wooden floor, but she took no notice. Her mind had gone silent, completely unaware of anything but the contact. Touch starved as she was, how could she not. It took her several moments to fully realize what was going on, and the position she was in. Then she erupted, in that quiet little way that only Elowyia could. She wasn't intimidating in the least to most, she knew this, but she could be a hellcat when messed with. Her face was burning red, one hand snapping to shove back down the hem of her dress, the other reaching the less than a foot distance to grasp the bottle again.
xxxx
"I will give you five seconds to pull me up. Or that shirt of yours might be going through the wash a little bit sooner than you want it to." Elowyia hissed, blue eyes crackling. It was taking everything in her to not just go limp again and enjoy the feeling of another person's touch, but she didn't want it to be like this. Not in this position, and certainly not with this person. Her heart was racing in her chest, adrenaline fueled by mild fear and anger causing her to tremble. So much for brownie points with the oversized scout. She didn't care if he didn't like the water. She didn't like people messing up her stuff. She didn't like people messing with her safe place. She didn't like most people in general. She liked being left alone to the quiet of solitude, and this wasn't quiet at all. The growl that rumbled through his chest didn't intimidate her in the least - he was a dog with a lack of manners, forget her idea of a cat. Her back hurt from his pounding, and her head from being held upside down for so long. Cursing loud and long, the blonde lifted her midsection somewhat into the middle position of a sit-up, what muscles she had just enough to release the tension on her head.
xxx
"It's funny, you get to mess with me all you want, but the second I - justifiably - fight back, you lose your precious little mind! Oh, look at me, I'm Lurch! I can't handle a little girl spraying me with tap water! I may melt! Oh horror! Or worse! My makeup might! Get! Ruined!" The blonde spat, before sticking the top of the bottle between her teeth, biting down just enough to hold it there without help from her hand. She began to twist the body of the bottle so that if she were to throw it, the man holding her would be soaked. The fingers still holding her skirt down tightened unconsciously as she spun the bottle.

╚═════════════════════☾☼☽═════════════════════╝

Farris hurried down the street, moving with certainty and determination as she pulled out her phone and shot Jack another text, 'Going to get Bright and track car', hitting send just as she arrived at the bookstore. Upon first glance the closed sign was hanging in the doorway, and just as she was about to turn and call Bright she heard a commotion going on inside the building. Immediately her hand once again found the handle of her hatchet under her jacket, while the other hand tested the handle on the door, and upon finding it unlocked, she opened the door and stepped inside in a fluid movement.

To be honest, she hadn't know what to expect, though a wolf finally slipping up was certainly what she was anticipating. Instead, she was greeted with sight of Bright holding the poor bookkeep upside down, Elowyia hissing and spating while holding...a spray bottle? In her mouth? Farris stood dumbfounded in the doorway for a moment, an incredulous look on her face as her gaze jumped between the two of them before she moved into action. She traveled swiftly across the room and in a fluid motion bent down and looped her arms through Elowyia's armpits, pulling her away from Bright while stating in an icy cold, firm voice, "Let. her. go."

Postby azhefa. » Thu Apr 30, 2020 12:58 am

xx─────────┥𝑴𝑨𝑲𝑨𝑻𝒁𝑨┝──────────────────────────────────

she woke from her light dozing against the window when the car starts to move, but keeps her head resting against the glass until they turned off onto the dirt drive that leads to the barn. maka holds back a sigh as the car rolls to a stop and everyone gets out. she hesitates only a moment before climbing out as well, but is stopped when johann playfully mentions his wallet which she had yet to return to him. the blonde's cheeks redden in embarrassment and tosses the bi-fold into the front seat. it seems she had unknowingly kept a tight hold on the leather item and felt rather bad for almost stealing it.

maka pauses by the car door after closing it and watches as dakota appears and has a happy reunion with lyall. she couldn't say it didn't hurt a little to see such friendships within the pack, no one seemed to get excited when she appears, but she shrugs it off and just grabs the bags of food instead of dwelling on it. maka checks to make sure she got them all before closing the door and heading off towards the barn, following after johann while the others had their little moment. she briefly wonders if the whole pack will actually show up to the meeting. even lars had trouble getting everyone together for meetings.

the blonde enters the barn just as johann finishes setting out the benches and she hands over the bags before helping him divvy them out. she places a box containing a sandwich and fries as well as condiment packets and napkins on each seat before settling in her usual spot on the ground. it wasn't that she wasn't allowed to sit with the others on the benches, she just doesn't like the hard wood seats and prefers the softer hay and dirt ground as well as leaning back against the support post behind her. from where she sits, she can't really see everyone, only johann since he was the one who was going to be speaking, and the others may not be able to see her once everyone takes a seat since johann's wide frame would block the sight of her. maka doesn't mind it at all since it means no one can stare at her and she doesn't have to look at anyone either.

maka leans her head back against the post behind her as she waits for the others to arrive, closing her eyes and resting for a bit. she wasn't hungry enough to eat in front of the others so she leaves her box untouched. she'll likely eat it once she's secluded away in a room at the cabin. she's always had trouble eating with everyone, another reason people joke about her being the omega since they would always eat last in a pack. she doesn't really mind it since her appetite seems to disappear when she's around other people. maybe one day it will change and she'll be able to sit and eat with everyone like a family, but that day wasn't today so the food remains untouched beside her..
