▌▏━━━━LOUISE━━━━━
While on any normal day Lou was bright and bubbly and generally a joy to be around, today had left her drained and down, and all she wanted in the world was to go out into the mountains and spend some time in nature all by herself. She could faintly hear some of the pack cooking in the kitchen of the cabin, perched on a swing that had been hanging from one of the large trees nearby for as long as she could remember. She closed her eyes and focused on the sounds of nature around her. It was starting to get late, but that didn't stop the birds from their usual chatter. She was somewhat embarrassed by herself at the funeral. She shouldn't have lied about who they were, but maybe it was for the best? It was driving her crazy thinking about the hunters that she knew had invaded her town. The Cranberry pack had never faced such a threat before, and Lou wasn't ready to die, and she didn't want to witness her family be unfairly taken away either. She was scared. As badly as she wanted to run away from everything and live in a cave in the woods by herself at the moment, she didn't dare stray far from the cabin in case something terrible happened.
    ✧✧✧
Lou got up from the old swing, walked behind the house and quickly slipped off her clothes before shifting into her wolf form. She wandered a bit into the woods, staying just close enough that she would hear when dinner was ready, and began patrolling the area around the cabin. She didn't necessarily expect any danger to them tonight, but it was always possible. What if the hunters had somehow followed them out to their little sanctuary in the woods. She couldn't be too careful. It felt good to be in her wolf form, it was freeing. The feel of the earth beneath her feet and her heightened senses put her at ease.

▌▏━━━━BRANDY━━━━━
While a handful of the her team had attended today's funeral for one reason or another, Brandy had spent her day applying to work at the diner in town - and she had a good feeling about the job - and felt good about how her first introdction had gone. Brandy could be painfully charming if necessary. Afterwards she had spent some time wandering town, trying to find any hidden gems here. Eventually she stopped in the tiny little cafe that she adored immediately and got herself a coffee. She had spent an hour or so in the cafe, sipping at her coffee and simply watching out the window.
    ❊ ❊ ❊
By the time she made her way back to the house, the sun was starting to set and the sky was an array of pinks and oranges. While she still wasn't completely keen on the small town compared to the city, this was lovely. She stepped into the house and looked around for any of her team. Her eyes locked on Jack (assuming he's in a common area) and she gave him a big devilish grin. "Hey boss man! How was the funeral?" She asked and leaned up against the wall.

○ Leader Of The Hunters ○ ♂ ○ 34 ○ Location: Hunters' House ○ Tags: Brandy/Farris ○

Jack was leaned over the table at the time the others got back to the house. What he was researching wasn't specific to this case, more general lore based and information about the surrounding area. The latter information would be helpful with pinpoint certain things in the pack's area however. He was surrounded by scraps of information, newspaper clippings, and a series of notebooks and lore books that he'd gotten at some point or another. Some were flipped open to particular pages, some lay closed in odd piles. This was the controlled chaos would seem like a mess to most any other, but to Jack every clipping and page was connected by lines of invisible thought. He glanced up when Brandy came in, evidently in a much better mood than he was.

Instead of responding with words right away, Jack made a vague displeased grumble while making a note of something from one of Farris's locational notes. "Not well." He said decidedly. "Any luck with your interview-"

He paused when Farris and Evangline came through the door. His expression dropped to something between a glare and a snarl directed at the younger woman. It was evident in that moment that Jack was the leader of the hunters. Between his size, demeanor, and tone he was a sight to behold and certainly not one to trifle with. All of his earlier tolerance for his Hunter's messing with him was no longer there. "Farris. Would you care to tell Brandy what happened to the 'stealth team' at the funeral?" His tone made it clear that it was not a question.

Annie watched Johann get up from his bed and her heart skipped, not knowing if he would push her back out the door or what. She watched him as he took the stuffed wolf from her hands and put it on his nightstand. When he looked back at her she smiled softly, trying to hide what was going on inside her head. But she knew that there wasn't a point. When he hugged her she stiffened, not knowing what to do. Slowly, she raised her hands and hugged him back. She could barely hold back the tears and emotions that she had been feeling. Everything was just so crazy and a million thoughts ran through her mind. Hearing him made her heart hurt because she knew that he tried his best to keep the pack safe. She pulled him away and looked up into his blue eyes, "You didn't fail anyone, Johann. Yes, you made a mistake, but everyone does. No one technically got hurt either." Other than the fact that the funeral was ruined, but she wasn't going to say that out loud. "I mean you just want to protect the pack. Pretty much everything was trusted upon you. With the loss of your father, our alpha, and the hunter coming into town. I can't blame you for wanting to do anything in your power to protect us." She smiled reassuringly at him, "Yes, it was wrong to give in to your instincts, but we all know that deep down you just wanted us safe. But you don't have to do that alone. We are a pack, we are family. We help each other so that only one person doesn't have to carry the entire burden." Annie looked down at her hands, "You aren't alone, Johann." Annie felt a tear fall from her eyes, but she didn't wipe it away. She realized that she had been doing exactly that, trying to do everything alone for her pack. She wanted to be tough for them so that they could mourn. So that they didn't need to do anything but heal, but she never let herself heal because she thought her emotions would end up getting in the way. By now a steady flow of tears fell and she couldn't stop them. "I'm sorry, I don't know what's wrong with me." She spoke softly and wiped her face to no avail.

ahhh I am so sorry, I forgot to post and then I came back and fixed it up oof

Johann listened solemnly as Annie spoke, gently releasing her and taking a step back to give her space. Her words were like a soothing balm on the raw emotions of the day, and little by little he felt himself begin to relax and breathe for what felt like the first time in the weeks. When she began to cry, he pulled back into the hug, gently wiping as many tears up as he could. "Annie, oh Annie, shhh, it's okay," he murmured, attempting to calm her down. He began to rub soothing circles into her back, as he gently steered her towards the bed, eventually maneuvering her into the sitting position that he himself had occupied moments before. Johann came to kneel before her, and place a reassuring hand on her shoulder. "Annie you are one of the bravest, strongest people I have ever known. But like you said, we draw strength from each other - don't every force yourself to go through things alone." After a brief pause, Johann got back to his feet, pulling a large blanket off the back of a chair next to his closet and gently wrapping around Annie. "So, what do you say? Should we join the pack and make some dinner? Sounds like Kota has a party going on, the very least we can do is crash it."

Upon entering the house, Farris was met with a heavy atmosphere rife with tension. During Jack's questioning, she swung her shoulder bag to the floor before turning to face him directly, "Bright and I got into the building just fine and managed not only to get written transcriptions of the events, but pictures of everyone in attendance as well. On the information side of the operation, it was a rousing success." Here she paused to toss her notes and the memory card from the funeral is Jack's direction as proof, before continuing, "The 'stealth' side much less so. Towards the end of the funeral I made a mistake and triggered the flash on my camera drawing the attention of one of the locals -a book clerk named Elowyia - I've got a photo of her if you need a reference. She confronted Bright and I, but ultimately has no evidence or ability to prove whatever suspicions she has as I removed the memory card from the camera without her noticing, and we consistently stuck to our cover story. A disappointing mistake to be sure, but besides her we weren't noticed by anyone really during the proceedings."

▌▏━━━━BRANDY━━━━━
Brandy raised her brow at Farris as she told the story about her funeral experience. The more her fellow hunters spoke about their experience there, the more glad she was that she had avoided the whole situation. Funerals really weren't her forte, she liked a more lively, exciting setting. But the camera mishap, that was amusing. A slight smile across her face, she looked between Jack and Farris for a moment. It was obvious that Jack was not impressed by the situation. "Well, good job on getting pictures Farris, we'll have to take a look at them soon here. Curiosity is going to kill me." she started, rocking on her feet a bit, "I worry about the girl in town a bit. I wouldn't be thrilled to see anybody taking pictures at my friends funeral. And even if she doesn't have proof, we don't want to be drawing suspicion from the townspeople. One of their people was just murdered after all, and we don't want anybody looking at us for that" she sighed.
    ❊ ❊ ❊
Although she did like the thrill of hunting, Brandy wasn't nearly as passionate about it as most of her teammates. She had never had any personal vendetta against the mythical beasts that she had spent her young life hunting. Most of the hunters she had met throughout her time in the group had some terrible experience with some sort of beast, but Brandy had just stumbled upon a group when she had nowhere else to go that got her into the business. She liked to have fun, and this situation so far had been anything but fun for her.

Jack bit back a few less than pleasant words, casting Farris one last look that bordered on disappointment before he turned back to his work. His jaw was still tightly clenched but Jack didn't speak much so he wasn't going on a lecture tirade when uncomfortable, disappointed silence would do. Bright was another problem entirely but that was a matter that he'd have to deal with tomorrow. It irked him to no end how unserious some of his hunters took the work they did sometimes, how sometimes it was like they didn't realize the stakes when it came to safety, both their own and the innocent people's around them.

Finished laying out whatever thought process that was going on behind this work, Jack grabbed his jacket off of a chair and made a vague grunt on his way out the door. Tonight would just be another of which he didn't sleep. The turbulent emotions were too loud, too close to the surface. By sunrise he would be normal again, normal for him. Limbs exhausted by the comfortable repetition of his training.

Bright stopped writing gradually as he came to realize something. The sun had set. He looked out the window, noting that the sun was far beneath the horizon. The lack of light on his page had prompted him to look up and become aware of his surroundings and situation. He looked to his left, the barely touched meal box sitting open on the desk. After only a few fries, Bright had lost his appetite, nearly throwing the box away. It had been a few hours since he had suddenly lost control of his emotions, and after a while, he felt himself calm down. He was thankful it had lasted shorter than usual today. Sometimes these moods could span up to a day or more. He stared at the meal box, wondering if he was hungry. Fortunately, his stomach answered for him, and he snatched up the box with little hesitation. The tall male stood up, softly closing his journal and pushing the chair into the desk.

He shuffled to the door, paying no attention to the glaring mirror leaning against the wall. His mind was too focused on food. On top of that, he was mentally exhausted after his several hour-long fit of rage, his mind a bit fuzzy. He stopped as he stepped on something crinkly and bent down to pick up a folded piece of paper. He balanced the box on one arm and opened it up, recognition flashing in his eyes as he recognized Farris' handwriting. He hadn't heard her slip the note under the door earlier. He wondered whether she was still out, but he voice from downstairs answered he questioned.

Exiting the room, he moved silently down the hallway peeking down the stairs before stepping onto them. He stepped softly down the stairs, chewing a cold fry in an innocent manner with what was almost a childish, gentle look on his face. Bright often entered a carefree and affectionate headspace after calming down from one of his episodes. Sadly, they never lasted long. There was always a storm raging in Bright that banished this soft side of him, reverting him back to his expressionless and silent self.

He stepped into the living, already knowing what they were talking about before he heard anything. The only time they all gathered was to share information or stress about an event that went to flames. He silently made his way to Farris, his eyes on the angry leader as he departed. He rested his chin on her shoulder, a fry sticking out of his mouth. "Hi." He whispered, blinking at her in what could be perceived as a friendly manner, a rather warm gesture for him.

At Brandy's comment, a quick half smile flitted across Farris' face, "Well, there's nothing suspicious about all the new people in town living under the same roof, so I think we're good on that front," a hint of playfulness returning to her voice, only to be quickly snuffed out by Jack's angry look. As the bulky man exited the room, she made a quick mental note to make breakfast and hot coffee for the next week, before turning to Eva and gently placing her hand on the other woman's arm, murmuring with uncharacteristic softness, "Thanks for coming to get me, I think things might've been worse if I'd left him waiting," she paused and briefly chewed her lip, momentarily lost in thought before shooting a quick look to Brandy and continuing, "I think I'll turn in early tonight, and I'm planning on going scouting tomorrow, so, ahh, please keep the lights in the room off when you come in if you don't mind. If either of you wants to join me, I'd love the company."

Farris rarely, if ever, felt down, but even the slightest hint of disappointment from the man she considered her mentor and one of her closest friends easily took the wind out of her sails. Certain that a good night's sleep, and more consistent, stealthy work would help everything, she was just about to turn and head up the stairs when she felt something come to rest on her shoulder, and heard Bright's voice uncommonly close to her ear. Under normal circumstances she would've been surprised or overwhelmed by such a display of warmth, but the trials of the day were quickly catching up to her, so with a soft sigh she simply raised a hand to cup his cheek, stating in a low, affectionate voice, "Hey there ya big dork." For a moment she rested like that, thankful for the silent camaraderie before gently ruffling his hair and lifting his chin off her shoulder. Cupping his jaw with both hands now she turned to face him and scrunched up her face in a mock display of frustration, fondly repeating her rhetorical question from earlier, "You never can make things easy, can you?" her expression changing to a wide, soft smile that reached her eyes, eventually releasing his face and heading up the stairs to her room. As she passed by him she briefly paused, giving his hand a quick squeeze of gratitude, before at least heading up to turn in for the night.

Bright leaned in the warm touch, his eyes fluttering close briefly. Bright rarely ever received affection or kindness, nor did he ever ask for it, but when he got it, he soaked it in. He could sense that the older wasn't in the best of moods right now and was offering his support however he could. He was lucky he missed Jack by seconds. He knew the leader had some hard words waiting for him. Being the second in command meant that it was his job to look after his team and make sure everything ran smoothly. Any mistake that was made was the fault of the person who causeD it, but it was also Bright's fault.

He gave Farris a rare smile, turning slightly sheepish at her question. "Sorry." He said softly, his deep voice lilting. "I'd say I'm trying, but I'm really not.' Sensing that it was time to let go, he gave her hand and affectionately pat and watched her go upstairs. Once she was out of sight, he turned around and walked to the front door, opening it to peer out into the darkness with a solemn face. It was clear that Jack wasn't going to come back, and Bright worried about the brooding leader. He never admitted it, but he didn't like it when the leader went out by himself after a rough day. Not because he was worried about him getting attacked, but because the leader was dealing with his thoughts and emotions alone. Bright knew all too well what that felt like.

With a heavy sigh, he closed the door and turned back to the hunters, his face back its serious and stony self. "Get ready to settle in for the night." He ordered brusquely, jerking his head in the direction of the stairs. "There'll be more to talk about in the morning once Jack returns." Not waiting for a reply, he walked into the kitchen, preparing a cup of coffee to give him energy as he pulled an all-nighter waiting for Jack to return.

Annie let Johann wipe her tears as they fell. A million thoughts ran through her head. She thought about the murder of their pack alpha. The funeral with the new people in town and how it crashed and burned. How she seemed to think that she had to do everything. She relaxed into the hug he was giving her finally letting her emotions flow out. She let everything out, just wanting everything to turn out okay for her pack. She let Johann steer her towards his bed as she continued to wipe away tears. She listened to him as her sobs slowly stopped and she nodded to him. She knew that she should never have tried to do things on her own. She smiled at him softly, her tears slowly stopping, "Thank you." Her voice was soft, she could barely hear if she had even answered him. She held onto the sides of the blanket closing it around her letting the warmth wrap around her body. She wiped her face once more and nodded, "Yeah, I am a bit hungry." She paused in thought, "And I do like crashing some parties," she joked softly, to help lighten the mood. She began to smile, a real genuine smile. At that moment nothing seemed to be weighing on her mind at all and she was truly happy.
