The prestigious Blackwood Academy is a boarding school for the world's best and brightest. From the outside, it looks like nothing more than a luxurious institution for higher learning. However, the school contains and dark secret. Certain students have been chosen to become duelists, fighting secret duels in the forbidden forest outside the school grounds. They fight to gain possession of the Rose Bride, a girl who holds a mysterious power within her. Whoever wins the duels becomes engaged to the Rose Bride and, in turn, gains the power to revolutionize the world. All of this has been organized by a force only known as End of the World, who sends letters to the duelists telling them the rules of the duels. The current winner of the duels must fight to maintain possession of the Rose Bride. If defeated in battle, or if they refuse to fight, they lose the Rose Bride until they can win her back. A duelist can challenge the winner as many times as they like. While some duelists have been completely sucked into this cycle, many still have questions. Who is End of the World? Most importantly, what is this mysterious power that can change the world?

It was a bright, cloudless morning at Blackwood Academy. Students were up and about, enjoying their free time before morning classes started. They clustered around the courtyard in small groups, laughing and gossiping without a care in the world. At the far end of the courtyard was a garden, the red roses in full bloom. A spring breeze drifted through the air, carrying a feeling of content and happiness with it. Hunched over a bed of roses was Delilah, watering her precious flowers with a smile on her face. She was almost always smiling, a fact that the regular students found extremely odd. They found a lot of things about her odd, from her perpetual state of passivity and politeness to her fascination with gardening. Little did they know that Delilah was much more than simply odd. The girl stood up straight, wiping her hands on the apron she always wore when gardening. She eyed the roses with a mixture of pride and...something unidentifiable.

where/ rose garden.
tagged/ Delilah.

ceci❝ That morning Cécile woke up half an hour earlier than usual. Actually, it had been so since Arlo got engaged to the Rose Bride. If she meant to win a duel someday, she would have to work harder, make up in swiftness and skill what others had in strength and height. "Perhaps... she thought to herself, as she tucked a sweaty lock behind her ear, "...perhaps waking up half an hour earlier isn't enough, I may need a full hour...
ceciShe was hiding behind a bush, trying to knock its flowers off from various distances with a pointy stick . She had to pretend it was just a silly game if anyone caught her at it, after all, the duels were meant to remain in utmost secrecy. One flower in particular kept eluding her and she was close to screaming in frustration when she saw Delilah walking up to the rose garden. She let out a gasp, partly because she felt guilty knocking flowers off bushes, partly because her beautiful appearance never failed to knock the air out of her.
ceciShe waited for half a minute, threw the stick away and then casually strolled in Delilah's direction, forgetting her cheeks were still rosy after all that exercise. "Well hello, mademoiselle, how are you feeling this morning?" She had a sing-song voice. That would be putting it nicely. Quite frankly, almost everything she said sounded like a polite child performing in a play. Again Cécile put the rebellious lock behind her ear. "Oh, watering, I see, I'll refill the watering pot right away, if you please." She offered with a toothy smile, reaching out for the object. ❞

Delilah turned her head, looking at the younger girl with that same gentle smile. "Good morning, miss Cécile." She greeted, bowing her head politely. Her long hair was braided up in a twisted knot, every hair neatly in place. Her cheeks were rosy and pink, her lashes curled. Oddly enough, this was the only makeup she seemed to be wearing, not that she needed makeup to begin with. Under the apron she wore the girl's uniform, the fabric smooth and wrinkleless from its ironing the night before. "You don't have to do that, really. I can handle the watering just fine. The roses are my responsibility, after all. Besides, I don't mind doing a little extra work if it means the garden will thrive." She replied, the watering can still clutched firmly in her dainty hands. Her eyes scanned over the princely girl, observing her with interest. The look was comparable to a child gazing at a new toy they were not allowed to have or a girl eyeing a dress that was far too expensive. "How are you this morning? How are your classes going?" Her attention shifted once again as Eleanore approached, giving her a quick greeting. "Oh, good morning to you too miss Eleanore. I hope you are doing well."

At those words Delilah paused, remaining silent for a moment. Something flashed through her eyes, precisely what it was remained unclear. Sadness, anger, bitterness? It could have been all of them or none of them. She certainly was not going to reveal which was the case. "You do not have to duel, if you do not wish to. You can simply walk away and another shall take your place." She replied calmly, that eerie smile still plastered to her features. How could she be so calm about such a matter? Her freedom, if she had ever had any to begin with, was taken from her. It would have only been natural to be upset. She turned, watering another bed of roses as she continued to speak. "All you have to do is give your letter to me. I shall handle the rest." The Rose Bride was the only one who knew who the mysterious End of the World truly was. The letters were all sent out anonymously, a return address never provided. In all the years that the duels had been taking place, no one besides the Rose Bride ever came into direct contact with End of the World. At least, not knowingly.

𝐉𝐮𝐥𝐢𝐚𝐧 𝐋𝐨𝐜𝐤𝐞
───────────────────────────────
location: dormroom/outside | role: The Dreamer | tags: Arlo

A small breeze gushed into Julian's bedroom. His dark brown hair dusting his forehead as it did, and waking him up gently from his nights sleep. The sun peeked into his room, the beams of light sneaking through the curtains of his open window. Blinking the sleep out of his eyes, he sat up and stretched his back. Yawning, he ran his hand through his messy hair and looked at the clock. His eyes practically fell out of his skull as he read the time. He quickly threw his covers back while muttering curses, hoping he would have enough time to get dressed. Throwing on a school uniform and washing his face, he looked in the mirror at himself. Gripping the sink and taking a deep breath, he prepared for the day to come. He cringed at the thought of having to duel Arlo anytime in the near future. He was confident in his swordsmanship. His family made sure of that. It was just awkward. He already groaned, getting second-hand embarrassment for his future self.

He thought everything having to do with The Rose Bride was just awful. Having one girl constantly forced to play a certain part, and having people fight to use her? It just sounded like servitude. His main reason for even being in it was because of his family. They'd practically forced him to do swordsmanship, he never would have guessed it would be for this. He could just give up anytime, he didn't have to listen to them. But when he tried to break free from the restraints he'd had on him since birth, he'd always find himself sinking back down into the darkness of his mind. He decided he would have his own reasons of competing. To free The Rose Bride. And maybe that would allow him to finally be himself, somehow, someway.

He quickly walked into his room again, and made his bed in record time. His bedroom was covered in paintings from head to toe. Beautiful masterpieces he had made when he couldn’t handle the fakeness of the world anymore. His most recent one was sitting on an art easel, staring back at him as he quickly made his bed in a hast. It was his favorite piece so far. Beautiful blues, reds, and purples expertly stroked. Something else was also staring him down, a message he had gotten from his family on his phone. He had tried to ignore it for a while. He knew what it was about. He just didn't want to listen for one more day. He stumbled on pants he had thrown on the floor last night, and made his way out of his bedroom. His roommate had already left for the day, as he quickly grabbed an apple and shoved it in his mouth as breakfast. His hair was already in his eyes as he slipped on his shoes, hopping on one foot to get the left one on, and then swinging the door of his room open and making his way down the hall and outside. Where he spotted Arlo. He screamed internally. Great.

He slowly made his way to him. "Hey..Uh, Congrats?" he said squinting as the sun shone in his eyes.
