OLIVIA BAKER
▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔▔
age: twenty-two | role: Scavenger | location: stables | mood: upset/trying to calm down | tagged: Andy, River, Reed, Charlie, Reed, William, (Hunter)
▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁▁
"You always act like such a hot-shot!" Olivia said angrily, shaking her head as her arms remained crossed, her eyes still burning with tears and accusations. "You always think you know better for yourself when you really don't! What about everyone else, huh? We're just supposed to let you leave on your merry way?" She said this with heavy sarcasm, obviously displeased with what Andy was saying. "You always do this, always thinking that you know best, but I never thought that you would've been this cruel to everyone who loves you, to just leave without thinking of us." She was about to say something about Joe, who would've likely shaken some sense into her, but she had a feeling that that would only make things worse. She was already saying things that she knew that she'd regret.

Before she could spew out any more words, Andy sat herself on the ground, revealing the gash that had molded its way onto her leg. It looked horrific. How had she not noticed, first of all? They were roommates, for Pete's sake. She thought that if there was anything wrong with her, that she'd pick up on it. But no, she thought that it was just a freaking sprain or something. She meant to kneel down and inspect the wound closer, but something held her back. How the hell could she just give up like that? It was clear to anyone that she needed medicine! She almost rolled her eyes at Andy's jokes. Screw her! she thought. I wish she'd stop making things into a joke. It's not... it's just not fair. Andy made a comment about her probably heading inside to rest, to which Olivia almost snorted at, if things weren't so serious. Of course she should be resting. "Whatever." Olivia said, looking at Andy, and then at River, who was still looking distraught, but also giving her eyes of reassurance, or a way to console her, perhaps? "I don't care. You do what you want. Obviously, whatever I think doesn't matter, if you're just gonna leave anyways. Whatever I think and whatever I say won't mean a freaking thing." She turned around, her back facing the two. "I have a raid to get to. I'm going to be late." She could see, off in the distance, that everyone was now standing up, gathering their equipment and getting settled on their horses. Without another word to either of them, she ran back to the porch, refusing to look back. She can do what she wants. I don't care.

As soon as Olivia reached her comrades back at the porch, she grabbed her backpack from where she had left it, quickly rubbing her eyes of any remaining tears. She headed to the stables at the barn, where everyone was grabbing a horse. She gave everyone a bright, forced smile. "Hey, sorry." she apologized. "We're heading out now? Great. I'm ready." At the stables were Jude, William, Charlie, and Reed. Quinn would probably join them soon enough as well. Hunter was already on a horse, ready for the group to get going, seeing as he was waiting for all of them near the road. She eased past everyone, to grab a beautiful black horse, with a strip of white that ran from between the eyes to its nose. "Mind if I borrow you?" she asked kindly, giving him a several smooth pats. "My name's Olivia. What's yours?" She paused, thinking of a name for this horse. Being in the animal's vicinity was helping her to keep calm. It wouldn't be a good thing to go into the raid angry, as she'd likely screw things up. By being by the animal's side, and with the thinking that she should talk to her comrades whilst on the raid, that would help rid her mind of her being upset with Andy-- at-least for a little while. Besides, while she was off collecting things, she was always thankful, so she was beyond thankful that there was a raid today. "What's that?" she said, acting like she could understand the horse's thoughts. "Brando? It's nice to meet you, Brando. Let's get you ready, shall we?" She had a bit of liking for The Godfather trilogy, and thought that Marlon Brando's acting in that movie was impeccable. Perhaps the name would rub off on this horse.

She used to ride horses when she was younger, and she had a feeling that riding on Brando would remind her of horseback riding with her family. It'd be bittersweet, as her family was now dead/missing, but riding horses always made her feel so free, like when she was running. Getting Brando all tacked up, she didn't bother with putting a helmet on her head, as it'd block her hearing somewhat if she needed to listen to instructions. If she fell, then she'd fall. She gave Brando a quick carrot from a bag of treats at the end of the stables, to which he snuffed appreciatively. "Ready to go?" With ease, she stepped in the stirrups, swinging herself up onto Brando. He walked over to the everybody else, who was waiting patiently with their own horses. "Thanks for waiting." she said to everyone, with a smile that again did not reach her eyes. "Does anyone need any extra help with their horses, or are we all good to go?" she asked, tilting her head around to everyone.

(( So sorry, I don't really like what I've written :C but I've been holding up everyone with my delay, apologies! ))

JUDE | 6

JUDE FOSTER

location: barn | role: scavenger | tags: William, Charlie, Reed, Olivia

Jude smiled as William hopped on confidently. She wished she had his confidence sometimes. She mumbled for him to make sure to hold on before glancing around the barn. She spotted Olivia get on her horse and make her way outside to everyone. She was about to join her before she spotted Reed struggling to make his way onto the horse. She gently took the reins from William, her hands gently grabbing them and telling the horse to move forward. She moved the right amount of distance to where William could still talk with Charlie as the horse trotted over a couple steps forward to where Reed was having trouble. She made eye contact with him, her eyes playfullying dancing. She took in his ruffled appearance and smile just a bit.

Having trouble there? Careful. You might hurt yourself,” she said with a teasing grin on her face. She heard Olivia ask if everyone was ready to go, so she made sure her backpack was on securely, and then she turned to William. “I think Charlie's coming with. So uh..” She trailed off as she looked at Charlie then back at William. “Don't worry. Lets go.” Wincing at how weird she sounded, she threw a silent sorry at Charlie, hoping she didn't interrupt their conversation too much. She turned the horse by squeezing her leg on one side towards the entrance. She looked at Reed once more, and gave an encouraging smile, which even surprised herself, before whisking her head straight again and squeezing both of her legs so the horse would move forward. Well that was interesting. The horse trotted outside, where Jude spotted Olivia. Making her way over to the girl, she gave a little wave before talking a little quietly so Reed didn't hear.

Hey, Reed is having trouble with his horse. Could you help him for just a second?” she said softly. He needed to get on the horse somehow.

006 / some days

█│ ── 𝐑 𝐈 𝐕 𝐄 𝐑 ─────────────── ─ ─ ─ ─ ─╶╶╶

The tugging on her sleeve made River turn around from where she had been watching Olivia initially storm off and then join the group preparing for the raid ─ the group that would hopefully bring back the medicine Andy rather desperately needed to have a chance at fighting the infection festering in her leg. The aforementioned had wrestled herself up from the ground and back onto her feet, only to begin shuddering from the effort. "You're allowed to ask for help," River offered carefully, wincing when the woman's head met the surface of the mailbox in a way that must have left a dent of some sort. Would she ever understand what was going on inside of that head? Unlikely. The grin that Andy still managed to splay across her face gouged at something deep within her chest. As much as she tried to compensate with those bright grins, her face looked even more colourless than it had moments ago, and although River couldn't catch all of the words formed by those paling lips, she saw enough to understand. And even if it was doubtful she had truly meant it, it hurt.
indentin"Andy..." she started, merely to be cut off by the pain twisting itself into Andy's expression, which was followed by a stumble that made River bolt to her aid with speed she didn't know she had. She looped Andy's arm over her shoulders to take the pressure off her leg, and underneath her other hand clutching the woman's side, she could feel the shallow trembles of her weakening form. While the word weak wasn't one River would have ever used to describe Andy — especially not after everything she had gone through with the wound in her leg — then and there, she felt frighteningly feeble. Not to mention, River wasn't the most athletically built individual in camp — Andy would have to work with her if they wanted to have a chance at getting back to the house, much less up the stairs.

River shifted her bag to the other side to keep it from flinging into Andy with every step. The trip back to the house turned out to be the easy part, because when Andy truly leaned against her going up the stairs, River was fairly certain she actually broke a sweat. One didn't have to go looking far for a workout in the apocalypse. With the railing providing support on one side, and River acting as a crutch on the other, they slowly progressed to the second floor of the house.
indentinRiver shouldered open a creaking door to the bedroom indicated by Andy, hobbled the final few steps to the bed by the window, and allowed Andy to use her as a support while sitting down so she wouldn't fall to the mattress. She had no idea whose bed it was, but she would need the light, so the owner would unfortunately have to deal. With Andy safely deposited onto the bed, River shrugged her bag from her aching shoulders, and used her newly freed hands the brush back the hairs that had escaped the elastic holding them back and strayed onto her face. "I'll be right back," she called out when already half-way out the door and in the hallway, before ducking into her own shared bedroom, and fetching the bottle she imagined Andy would initially be delighted at the sight of, and then come to hate by the time they got to cleaning her wound.
indentinAfter folding a few stray pieces of clothing from the floor and draping them across the back of a chair, River took a seat next to the bed, holding out the liquor to Andy. "It's going to sting," she explained with a faint, apologetic smile, while her free hand sought out Andy's and gave it a light squeeze. "You might want a swig." The outbreak had certainly introduced improvisation to the world of medicine.

Almost as soon as Olivia asked if anyone needed any help, she found Jude approaching her and asking if she could give Reed a hand with his horse. With interest, she nodded. "Sure, it's no problem," she said, dismounting from Brando, giving him a pat on the side and Jude a small smile. It was pretty considerate of her to ask her if she could help him out. Maybe she asked her to help him, seeing as she had offered people help if they needed it. Sure, she was already on Brando, but she didn't mind. Helping people was good, especially during these times. If they weren't looking after each other in this group, well, things would likely go downhill real fast. People would turn on each other and not care if someone was injured or needed an extra hand with something. That would be a group of selfishness. Besides, it wasn't difficult for her to get up on a horse, so it wouldn't be a problem for her to get back onto Brando after helping Reed. Helping Reed would also help keep her mind off of the whole Andy thing too, which still made her upset just thinking about it.

There weren't a ton of horses in the stable to begin with, so it wasn't difficult to find Reed and his horse. The horse itself was another beauty, with a lovely black coat and tall in height as well. It was well taken care of, thanks to Sera (all of the animals here were taken care of, thanks to her, really). Reed, on the other hand, looked a little worse for wear. He had dirt all over his pants, probably from falling off when trying to get up on the horse. His hair was a little askew, and if Olivia looked a little closer, he had a bit of dirt on his cheeks as well, probably from wiping his face after having touched the ground. He looked a little cute there, trying so hard and being so determined to get onto the horse. She found herself smiling and laughing a little, thoughts of Andy slightly disappearing from her mind. "Hey cowboy, need a hand?" She had her arms crossed over her chest, standing to the back of him but to his left hand side. "I can give you a boost. It's tough to get on horses sometimes, especially when they're so tall. I mean, it's not that you're not tall, you are, but... you know." She cocked her head a little, tucking a stray piece of dark brown hair behind her ear. "You ever been on a horse before? I don't mean it in a bad way, of course. If you have been, it's easy to get rusty after not having ridden one in a while. I mean, when did any of us ride horses recently, especially with what's been going on." She smiled shyly, sighing a little at the sad topic. "Anyways, lemme help you." She bit her bottom lip out of habit, glancing around to find a stray mounting block in the stall behind Reed. "One sec."

She quickly opened the stall door a little wider, grabbing the block. As she passed the door, she found that the hook beside it held a treat bag, to which she dug around to find a a bag of raisins. Giving the horse some raisins, first, she placed the block on the ground before feeding it, rubbing its sweet face. Its lips were eagerly eating from the palm of her hand, and a bright smile made its way onto her face. It was so cute. After the small handful, she placed the raisins in her backpack, just in-case she wanted to give the rest of the horses more treats later. She then picked up the block and placed it to the left of the horse, patting its side. It really was a gentle giant of sorts; it seemed pretty patient. It was all tacked up and just chilling. Olivia adjusted her backpack tightly on her back before grabbing Reed's hand, his hand rough and a little sweaty from his numerous tries of getting on the horse. "Okay, now step up on the block." she said, giving his hand a reassuring squeeze. "Put your left foot in the left stirrup first, and then swing your right leg right over the saddle. I've got you, so don't worry about falling. You might find yourself like, slipping on the saddle, but you'll adjust. You ready?"

As she waited for his answer, she heard the sound of William's voice, to which she turned around to look down at his beaming face. "I know!" she grinned, her day instantly brightened by the cute kid's personality. "That'd be so cool. I am excited to see if we can find other people, I know you are." She laughed a little, ruffling his hair just the slightest from where she was standing. It was little awkward, as she couldn't quite kneel down due to holding Reed's hand. She considered passing on his question on whether or not she was happy, but then decided against it. No doubt he'd ask questions on why she didn't answer that question, and then it'd be a whole thing. "I'm happier now that you're here, Will." she decided to say, smiling down at him. She almost had a bit of a heart attack when he whipped out a knife, to which she looked over at Charlie with huge eyes before giving William a shocked smile. She seriously gave him a knife! She could never imagine herself giving the kid a knife. She'd be too worried that he'd do something accidental with it. Charlie really was all about the business. Like Quinn, in a way. Speaking of which, she wondered when Quinn would join them at the stables, unless she had already joined Hunter on the road. "Yeah, I see it. It sure is real. Why don't you put back inside your pocket, okay? Be careful with it, buddy. Don't yank it out as fast as you did around us again, okay? You're like a real ninja with it, so it's dangerous." She gave a nervous laugh before returning her attention back to Reed after seeing him safely place it inside his pocket.

(( aw William HAHA Olivia's like uhum LOL ))

Charlie II Tagged: William, Jude, Olivia, and the others

Charlie once on her horse waited until William was on a horse too. Once she saw him with Jude she slightly squeezed her highs to indicate that she wanted to horse to walk forward. She was a quiet rider for sure, never one to start a conversation and very serious. She liked going on raids but not because it was a chance to leave the main property. No. It was a job, she had to find medical stuff to keep everyone safe and healthy. At this point, a case of pneumonia or an asthma attack could kill someone faster than those creatures. She rode in front of William and Jude, not too far but close enough to help tame William down if he became too rowdy.

Which happened sooner than she thought. Not even a few minutes in and she heard the young boy talking excitedly to Olivia. Out of curiosity, Charlie looked back and frowned. She could see him holding and waving the knife around. 'This boy...' She mentally sighed but still kept the look of angry mom. "William... that knife is not meant to be swung around like a toy. Remember it's only for emergencies." She spoke up in a cool even tone. She didn't sound angry but she for sure was stern. Much like a small slap on the wrist as a warning. Which she hoped was enough to keep him in line. She then heard Olivia's response to him and gave a small nod in agreement to put it up and not swing it around. With that, she looked forward to making sure her horse was still following the path. The day was still young and what awaited them on this raid no one could say for sure.

Charlie looked around at everyone going out on the raid. In her head, she sent a small prayer, 'Please, let us find what we need to survive. Let us return back, together, and safely. Give me the strength to not reach over and whack William's head if he pulls that knife out again like he just did.' She paused in her thoughts before finishing her prayer, 'Please let him return back to camp with me, I can't lose another one.' Charlie sat in silence as she though her little prayer. She never spoke out loud to pray but kept it in her thoughts. No one would really think she was religious due to some of her mannerisms and simply because she never really showed anything to indicate she believed. However, she did and prayed every night before bed. Charlie then went back into serious mode. She was now more alert and aware. Being outside of the safety meant anything could happen. Much like being in an ER, Charlie loved the adrenaline. This was the closest she could get to it most times. It's not every day that she is suturing up someone or bringing someone back to life that has crashed. While she still had moments of that rush, it wasn't nearly as often. Which in a way is the best thing, if she was fixing people up every day something is wrong. So she settled for the excitement of the unknown that occurs during raids.

"There you go!" she grinned, her eyes sparkling with a bit of humour. "Look at you, sitting on your horse. I'm so proud." She pretended to wipe a tear from her eye. "Kids grow up so fast these days." She was clearly teasing him. It was a cross between him and William swinging the knife around like it was a flower that made her feel a little bit better. She'd do her best to forget about Andy for the time being, and concentrate on the raid and getting some more medicine for her. She trusted that Charlie would also be on the look-out for some medicine, being a doctor and all. She wanted to ask Charlie about the kind of medicine that could help save Andy, but she didn't want to draw any more attention to it than Andy already had. It was clear that she had only told a few people, herself included, and it wasn't her truth to tell. The best that she could do would be to scour the shelves for any medicine relating to terrible wounds, and gauze. Lots and lots of gauze. There'd be no need to leave it exposed. If anyone asked why she was grabbing so much, she could say that she was simply preparing for any future injuries that would likely occur. It was a virus-driven world, after-all.

After Reed had successfully mounted his horse, and Olivia shooed William back to Charlie, she placed the mounting block back in the stall before getting back on Brando. She knew that time was ticking, and there was only so much daylight left that would be good for them to search the town. If it became the slightest bit dark, it allowed for walkers to come out from hiding (not that they didn't already come out from hiding during the day-- they just seemed stealthier at night). She checked her watch; it was nearly noon. "We should probably meet up with Hunter now; I think he's been waiting for a while." she said, giving Brando a quick foot pat while her feet were still in the stirrups. "Let's get going, Brando." She rubbed the side of his mane lovingly, looking back at everyone with a smile before helping to lead the way to the road where Hunter was waiting.

When she neared the road, she made sure to maintain eye contact with the road and not the gravel path where River and Andy stood. She really did not need to see them and break down all over again. Her head needed to be screwed on straight in-order for her to not make any mistakes on this raid. Making a mistake could easily cost you your life or a limb, and Olivia was content in keeping both, thank-you very much. When she was ignoring them, plain and simple, she made it to her destination without any trouble; not even looking back to see if anyone was following her. Looking back would bring the two into her peripherals, and she didn't need that, either. "Hey, thanks for waiting," she said, giving Hunter a shy smile. She brought Brando to a stop, where he stood beside Hunter's horse. "Any idea how you'd like to split us up when we reach the town?"

(( So sorry. this is ridiculously short ugh ))

█│ ── 𝐑 𝐈 𝐕 𝐄 𝐑 ─────────────── ─ ─ ─ ─ ─╶╶╶

River took back the sharp-smelling bottle, lowering it onto the floor beside the bed to free her hands, and as Andy began going through the emotions of a begrudging patient, she turned away with a placating smile awfully reminiscent of a forbearing mother to rifle through her bag for everything she would need, but not long after, the shifting of the mattress drew her attention right back to Andy. The eyes that met hers were lined with tears, sat in a frame twisted by a frighteningly stark shade of despair, and the words that warped her lips were fragmented, arising from some defeated place she couldn't easily imagine within Andy. The arms that wrapped around her middle with a desperate strength would have startled her had she not seen the panicked expression worn by their bearer moments earlier. River lowered the roll of gauze she had been holding onto the faded blanket before allowing her hands to drop to Andy's shoulders, one of them continuing to her hair to gently brush it back from her face. Whatever dam Andy had built to keep her fear at bay had finally broken, and considering the pressure it must have been under, it had every right to break. She had every right to break. Yet the sight of Andy's head resting in her lap pulled her to a scene far removed from this one, accompanied by a familiar petrifying weight that hadn't settled itself onto her chest in years.

River must have passed out, because she came to in the backseat of the mangled wreckage of Lina's car, sandwiched between the bumper of the pickup that had plowed into their side and the two cars that had finally stopped their skid, and piled onto each other from the force. Through the acrid and suffocating smoke filling the interior, she could see Lina and Chris slumped in their seats, covered in the shattered glass that blanketed every surface and caught the light of the flames like stars gleaming through the dark veil of space. The inside of her head was buzzing, and the flaring pain in her ears was screaming at her. She brought her fingers to her earlobe, only to get them back coated in blood. In some way, deep-down, she had known right there, but she had still waited for a long time for her hearing to come back. It never had, and eventually, she had had to face the inevitable; A cacophony of grinding metal, screeching tires, and its chorus of screaming was the last thing she had heard. Ever.
indentindentAs the initial haze of having been knocked out slowly clarified, the ache spread from her head to every inch of her body she could mentally account for. Her ribs stung as she inhaled, having likely broken when crushed against the door, and her left forearm had painted the warped material with the blood seeping from the jagged gash torn into it. She tried to move because the smoke was getting oppressing, invading her airways in the place of oxygen, but a limp weight rested across her lap. The place of Andy's light and wavy hair had been taken by strands that were dark and once sleek, now matted with blood. Maddie. River brought her shaky fingers to her neck, desperately searching for a pulse until she had no choice but to give up. She was dead. Yet before River had a chance to despair, a stirring from the front of the car awoke a flicker of hope in her chest. It was Chris, pushing himself from the dashboard and shakily twisting around in the passenger seat. But the eyes that turned to look at her through the thick air were not lively and brown. There was a sheen of vagueness in them, and before she knew it, he was launching himself towards the gap between the seats, arms flailing out and reaching for her, until the seat belt jerked him back. He had turned, become one of those trashing corpses in the news.
indentindentStrong hands wrapped around her upper arms as she pressed impossibly closer to the backseat, away from the walker that wore her friend's face without a hint of remorse. They hauled her from the wreck through the back window that had burst right out of its steel frame. Having not heard it, River hadn't even realized the extent of the chaos outside, which was manifold compared to the panic she and her friends had sought to flee. The world was crumbling around them. As she found her footing on the debris-covered pavement, light brown eyes regarded her with worry. It was a man who couldn't have been more than a few years older than herself; she had later learned through wide letters etched onto a discarded napkin that his name was Hunter.

The shuddering of Andy's shoulders underneath River's hands pulled her back to the present, and the burden confining her ribs to her lungs was replaced with something much lighter, which allowed the air to flow again. Her eyes shifted briefly to her arm, where the rolled-up cuff of her flannel revealed a familiar pale scar, before returning to the head of blonde hair. She may have lost Lina and Chris, and perhaps most jarringly, Maddie, but Andy was still here, which meant that it was far from over. They had time; time that River intended to extend until the laws of this world no longer permitted it. Andy wouldn't die here, and she most definitely wouldn't die from this. That much she knew, now. She ran her fingers soothingly through the silky locks cascading across her lap. "Andy... you aren't alone with this anymore. Hunter and Olivia aren't going to give up on you. I'm not going anywhere, either," she offered, hoping the words would prove as reassuring as she considered them to be.
