Rhodan watched as Persephone left, her eyes meeting his. They were both thinking the same thing. If Rhodan tried to run now, his father would try to help him, getting himself into trouble in the process. He did not want that to happen. He couldn't help but wonder what the scroll said. Haymitch had yet to open it, his eyes remaining locked on the guards. The guard who had done most of the talking, no doubt the leader of the group, nodded. "Come along." He nodded to his companions. One got on either side of Rhodan, ready to escort him out. Together the group left the shop, making their way for a cart parked a few stores down. Walking to the castle would take too long and a cart would much more practical than horses alone.

she had only been waiting for a brief minute or two before the door to the blacksmith's shop opens and rhodan is escorted out with a guard at either side. they seemed to be taking him to a cart they had parked a few shops down which gives her plenty of time to swoop in and grab the apprentice from their cruel hands. luckily, there doesn't seem to be chains on him, but she knows as soon as he's in that cart they will be locked onto his wrists to prevent escape. percy pats the mare a bit more and gives a few words of encouragement before tapping her sides with her heels to get the horse moving. the rather wild woman keeps one hand knotted in the mare's mane and the other held down low as she leans a bit to the side in order to grab hold of rhodan's arm. the horse was quick and percy calls out to rhodan in warning as they approach. "rhodan, grab hold!"
either it was pure luck or skill that made it work they'll never know, but with surprising ease percy is able to grab rhodan's arm and help swing him onto the back of the mare behind herself and keep speeding off. the guards were clearly shocked for a moment before making haste after them, but percy's mare was faster. the blonde uses her legs to expertly maneuver the horse through the crowds, several people getting shoved aside or diving out of the way of the speeding horse. for a moment, percy is able to spot an elf in the crowd and recognizes her as the one who stops by the forest from time to time. she couldn't stop and chat so percy just ignores them in favor of escaping the town. with the guards chasing on their own mounts, percy knows this chase will continue into the forest. which was a good thing since none of the guards would know the forest like she does. plus she's got a few friends that could help diminish the number of guards rather permanently.
persephone urges the mare on as they exit the town and head into the trees, automatically ducking low over the horse's neck to avoid branches. "stay down or you'll get you're head knocked off," she calls back to rhodan behind her, hoping the wind doesn't take her words and he actually listens. it wouldn't be very good if he gets knocked off the horse now, the guards would be on him before she could turn back around. percy steers the mare around several trees and is quick to maneuver around the different holes and roots that would easily snag a less proficient horseman. like one of the guards behind them, his cry of surprise lets them know one was down. after that they were easy pickings for the wilds of the forest. one was dispatched via a low hanging branch while another fell off after trying to jump a log. their horses all seemed tired and even spooked at being in the forest, which she can't blame them since there were plenty of predators living in the shadows.
after only a dozen or so minutes, the guards were gone. some seeming to just give up while others were knocked off their horses by various things. percy glances back to check several times as they make their way even deeper into the forest, not wanting to risk still being followed. she twists and turns in odd patterns to throw off any remaining guards before slowing and carefully navigating the forest to reach a secret oasis far to the south. no one has ever found it from what she could tell otherwise it would be ruined from human greed like everything else, but it was an untouched haven she has only been to a few times before. "they can't find us here, none of the guards know enough about the forest to know this place even exists." she halts the mare near the edge of the small pond and slides off before helping rhodan down, dismounting without a saddle was quite tricky. once freed, the mare gets a drink from the clear blue water and then trots off to return to her family of wild horses.
percy huffs a tired sigh and plops herself onto the lush grass that was on the shoreline. "we may have to stay here a while, the guards are probably going to try and search the forest for us now," she says with a bit of a shrug, not seeming to really mind the fact that they will be staying in the forest. then again she does live in a cave so this wasn't much different. she motions towards the trickling waterfall that feeds the crystal clear blue waters and the flowering trees nearby. "at least there's fresh water and food to eat, we won't starve while on the run from the law." she tries to joke a bit and lighten the mood, though is still a little tense, unsure if the guards would actually be able to find the hidden oasis so deep into the forest. the only ones to know of this place would be the elves since they would know the forest as well as herself.

The whole chase was a blur for the young blacksmith. His head was racing with all of his thoughts and emotions, confusion and worry. The unanswered questions continued to circle within his minds like buzzards circling a carcass. Why did the king want him? What would happen to him if he was caught? What would happen if he wasn't? Would they use his father to get to him? That thought made Rhodan's heart sink. No, surely not. Haymitch was the only blacksmith in the kingdom. If the king executed him, there would be no more weapons for his soldiers. Finding a new blacksmith would take months, as one would need to be brought in from outside the kingdom. This thought eased his mind a little, allowing Rhodan to fully take in his surroundings. They were deep in the forest now, much deeper than he had ever been before. The tree trunks were so wide that one couldn't even hope to wrap their arms around them. The canopy of leaves above their heads was lush and green, rays of sunlight filtering through the leaves. Soft mosses covered the ground, mushrooms popping up here and there. If the circumstances were different, he would have been able to fully appreciate its beauty. His gaze turned to Persephone, brown eyes watching her as she settled down. How could she be so calm after such a chase? It bewildered him. He remained silent for another moment before finally speaking. "Thank you." His black hair was unkempt from the wind, his shirt sleeve torn from when he had been jerked away from the guards. "I don't know what would have happened to me if you had not been there."
