I gaze up at the midnight sky, can't find a single star
there are times when I miss the light but I'm not afraid of the dark

her soft tone was long gone.
"oh, really? i must be better at my job than i originally thought. still, you would do well to actually check through the appropriate channels whether there's wolves in the area. we have a couple of english wolves around here that certainly knew we were here before they turned up on our doorstep so don't bother using another country as an excuse."
emmelene took a small sip from the cup and a big sigh as she slowly reined her temper in. she did, she knew, have a reputation to uphold. it wouldn't do to let it loose.
"and there's two packs here, you might be interested to know. the others live outside of the town and mostly keep to themselves whereas we-" she took another sip - "like to know precisely what's going on in our territory."
the redhead shot a quick glance to the window. there was nothing outside but the fencing surrounding the refurbished warehouse and a weak afternoon sun trying - and failing - to pierce the mist. she tugged the sleeves of his sweater further down her wrists.
"we're also not twisted to the point where we'll shred everything that wanders into our territory, or even those who simply disagree with what we say and believe. there's dangerous things besides them in those trees, but i'm not sure which of the two i'd rather face. speaking as a friend i'd advise, ms deputy, that you are careful. you can be sure they'll hunt your down the moment they realise you're here."
a weak smile.
"or, of course, you could take a different option. i'd rather not find you torn from limb to limb in a week from now and i'm sure you'd prefer that, too."
i saw so many places, did things that i did
and with every broken bone i'll swear i lived

BAYARD "TY" TYRAEMAR
SENTINEL//SILVER//HALFBLOOD//TWENTY-NINE//SINGLE//TAGS;
pair of loners in the steel cafe. maybe the ones sighted in helena earlier this week by peripherals. i think they've just been claimed by the steel wolves. might need to have a scout tail them. he stared at the message he'd just sent, frowning slightly, then jumping into motion whn he realised the steel alpha was staring at him.
"morning. afternoon? what time of day is it?" a quick glance at his watch. "afternoon, even. could i have a vanilla latte with an extra shot of espresso?" the sentinel pulled a ten dollar bill out of his jacket pocket and passed it to faith conners with a weak smile. sometimes he felt bad about actively funding the steel wolves but he'd done the maths, obviously, and the profits of his caffeine addiction would barely buy them a few t-shirts. at least, that's what he told himself.
in truth, though, he was just over the whole thing. sentinel or not. nearly fifteen years of his life for this pack, for what? a hundred acres of woodland to the west of jasper? he remembered the divide, and was the only remaining member of the pack left who had been a fighter at the time. he remembered the arguments and the rising tempers and finally the bloodshed. he'd lost almost all of his friends when they turned and sided with the steel alphas of the time. that, above all else, had devastated the englishman. perhaps even more so than when his parents went "missing" during the fighting. there one day, gone the next. they'd run away back to hertfordshire, he'd later discovered. from digging through the electoral roll and not from them. it'd been ten years and still not a word from them. bayard, despite his usual character, had developed a petty streak and never reached out to them, either. they were better off where they were. despite his hot-headed pride, he couldn't be mad at that.
"oh, and, uh, could you please make it a large? sorry." he smiled apologetically at the other werewolf. this whole set up was so, so weird to him, even now. how easily even the most aggressively silver wolves could be won over by the coffee this place produced. it gave him more hope for the future than he'd ever publically admit.
