harper was quick to notice that not a single person took her hand once she offered it. she'll admit she may have overstepped her boundaries when she shoved her best friend to the side, but she still stands by the fact that this competition is being held for her. well, her and kaius. or mostly kaius. harper had known from a very young age that kai was the favored twin and would most likely be the one seated on the throne and worked hard over the years to not let it bother her. when they were younger and he would hold this fact over her head, she used to burst into tears and be inconsolable until she was bought something expensive, usually a new pony. now a days, kai's comments about their parents' obvious favoritism only make her laugh. harper doesn't know if kai realizes or now, but she really has no interest in the throne. being responsible for a whole country? no thanks. she just wants to live in luxury, throne or not.
before she could think about the negative attention she was receiving, harper's saaving grace showed up and pulled her into a hug. harper constantly thanks the lord for sending her someone as wild as alka. don't get her wrong, elle is and will always be her best friend, but elle would never let loose, and more importantly, let harper go loose, the way alka does. the two princesses are two peas in a pod when it comes to mischief and gossip. she laughs openly when alka calls her brother "prince superbrat", throwing her head back with glee. alka was also harper's partner in crime when it came to heckling her brother. along with aries, alka and harper were fantastic at pushing kai's buttons, even though the other two were more malicious with their intents. "i'm so glad to see you, darling. we'll have to get together soon for a night out." harper says suggestively, wagging her eyebrows at her friend before she goes off to make conversation with someone else.
harper's attention is drawn away from alka when she hears "and i thought your brother was the worst of you two. considering you grew up with her you should show her a bit more respect don't you think?" her eyebrows draw together in confusion when she turns to face aries. she didn't know he had a soft spot for her lady-in-waiting. wait until she told alka the news, if she didn't already know, of course. "oh, aries. you know i meant nothing by it. i love ellie dearly. how could you possibly compare me to that scoundrel!" she gasped in mock horror, dusting off his disappointed stare easily. she waves him off as he joins up with alka, almost forgetting about that little guilty feeling in her brain almost immediately.
"aww is someone threatened by their lady in waiting?" kai's voice sprang up behind her. harper chuckled, shaking her head. it was scary how close kai was on the mark. the perks of growing up together she guesses. "not as threatened as you are of me having the potential to be on the throne, little brother." she teases pointedly, throwing in his nickname for good measure to get the point across to stop this conversation now. she prances behind him as he walks up to elle, who is en route towards the bungalows. she weaves her arm in elle's as she walks, butting herself into a sticky conversation once again.
"do you have to follow me everywhere? figured your obsession with me would have disappeared years ago." harper actually cackles as elle throw's kai's words back in his face. "i knew there was a reason we kept you around, pet!" she laughs jovially. she squeezes elle's arm comfortingly as she beings to apologize for her behavior earlier. "listen, love, i'm terribly sorry for the way i acted a little while ago," she begins dramatically. "you do know that i think of you as more of a sister than a lady-in-waiting? you're just so beautiful that i was getting a bit jealous is all. i'm sure you understand." she puts on her best puppy-dog eyes that she can muster, hoping elle will buy the dramatic shmooze fest harper is throwing her way. "how 'bout i make it up to you, how does a new dress sound?" she asks, eyeing her brother to see if he'll comment on her dramatic, only partly insincere apology.
