xxxxafter finally finishing her bowl of cereal, madeline politely dismissed herself from the table and walked over to the sink, running hot water over the bowl and spoon before placing it into the dishwasher. it was remarkable how the pipes were still able to run, but the dishwasher didn't share the same fate. roden probably had to manually clean all of his dishes by himself. she wouldn't have any problem helping him out, but she wasn't sure if she was allowed to even stay another day. he'd mentioned something about there being a special place for the younger survivors to stay, but there weren't that many kids her age. it was a good thing madeline adjusted to change easily, though.
xxxxa third guest rapped gently on the door, causing madeline to tilt her head. poor roden, his little place had become a full house. was he popular among the camp? she smiled gently at the thought, briefly glancing in the newcomer's direction as he addressed the children, including her. her grin slowly faded, however, once she got a good look at the guest's features. if looks were the only thing that determined the amount of trust a person could have, there wasn't an inch of honesty in him in madeline's mind. suppose it was just her being biased, with her fear of men and all. for all she knew, he could be the nicest person in camp, but she wasn't willing to find out.
xxxxit was then that she discovered the absence of her teddy bear. she gave gator and suho a nervous smile before making her way to roden's bedroom to grab it. the moment she made it through the door, the brunette's eyes locked with her bear, waiting idly above the fumbled sheets to bed she slept in. she practically jumped onto the mattress, holding the bear tightly in her clutches as she curled her frame into a tight ball. she didn't really feel like going back outside.

located Adeline's house - tagging Theodore & Charlie Rose- feeling drowsy
The night before, Margot had accepted Adeline's offer, but refused the spare bedroom. She didn't know how long the younger woman would let her stay, or how long she'd like to stay herself, so it was easier to crash on the couch. It wasn't like she really needed closet space either, her only possessions being the clothes on her back, the hunting knife and now the clumsy wooden crutches that were leaning against the sofa's armrest.
Habit had awoken her at the crack of dawn, regardless of the late night at the bonfire. Tired, she carefully sat up on the sofa. The house's living room was bathed in soft light, filtering through the thin curtains. She'd have to remember to thank Adeline for letting her stay when she saw her.
She had been lounging on the couch, thinking about finding breakfast when a knock on the door caught her attention. She was unsure who it could be, but since Adeline seemed to still be asleep, she staggered up and grabbed her crutches. They were a bit impractical on the wooden floor, but she managed to hobble to the door, unlock it and gently push it open. It was two unfamiliar faces, a woman and a man, both seemingly in their thirties. "Hello?" she greeted, her tone slightly confused as she leaned against the door-frame.

Now that he knew which house was hers, his next mission was to find those keys. Once she and Theo were out of sight, Latamer headed over to Charlie Rose's front door and looked everywhere that he could think of. Underneath the welcome mat, in the bushes, inside the dirt, but he had no luck. He checked behind him very once in a while to make sure nobody was watching him, but there didn't seem to be anybody around. Feeling a bit discouraged, he decided his last option was to either try to climb through a window-- though there isn't really a discreet way to do that-- or to check if there are any other doors she hadn't locked. Perhaps there was a back door? Most of the houses in this part of town were modeled the same way, and if he had a back door then she must have one as well.
With this idea in mind, Latamer reached his hand over and unlocked the side gate before sneaking through and searching for a back door. Sure enough, there was a door leading into what seemed to be the kitchen.
After wiggling the handle and discovering that the door had been left unlocked, Latamer headed inside and quietly shut the door behind him. It wasn't his first time sneaking into somebody's house, but for some reason his heart was pounding harder than usual as he thought about what he was planning to do, and he wasn't sure if it was from apprehensiveness or excitement. Perhaps a healthy mixture of both.
The kitchen was rather empty as was the rest of the house, which made sense considering she'd only moved in last night and probably wasn't carrying a whole lot with her. There was only so much you needed to carry while traveling on your own during the apocalypse. The lack of clutter meant that Latamer didn't have to spend a lot of time looking around to see the large half-open bag sitting right on the kitchen counter, almost begging him to come and search through it. That's got to be a sign, right?
Latamer quickly strode towards the counter and pulled the bag to the ground before he began to dig through it. There was no use in making sure everything looked the same as it did before since the woman would surely know he was the one who stole the truck. His plan had changed from wanting to kill all the mourners he could from wanting to leave this place entirely. He didn't really have a plan in mind for the future, he just knew he wasn't the type of guy to stick with a large group like this. If his family was still with him perhaps he'd consider staying, but he really had no reason to stick around-- not to mention a truck like that would be the ultimate mourner killing machine.
After only a few seconds of digging around, Latamer noticed the side pocket was wide open before he stuffed his hand inside and pulled out what he could only assume to be the keys he was looking for. His excitement only lasted for so long before he realized he'd somehow have to talk his way past the guards and make it to the truck before they could get to him.
His heart pounding harder than ever, Latamer stuffed the keys in the pocket of his coat before exiting through the same place he came from, not bothering to lock the door behind him. He peeked over the side gate to see if there was anybody around. Once he felt confident that the coast was clear, he exited through the wooden gate and strolled down the sidewalk, acting as casual as he possibly could. Next step: finesse his way past the guards and get to that truck.

At the door opening, Charlie Rose shoved the pain pills into Theo's hand, wether he had responded yet or not. She flattened her puffy coat a bit and unleaned from the post, revealing her rather tall stature.
"Hey, uh. Sorry to intrude, but I found this bag of medicine," She straightened up from her position more and walked over with her plastic bag outstretched in her hand. "Theo over here tells me you're the doc, so I figured you'd need them." She added with a shrug, eyes breifly taking note of the crutches of the other woman.
Once trained eyes had scanned the pills, they'd find it was filled with quite a variety. Some just advanced pain killers, but a few bottles of antibiotics as well. A few shots of insulin and some medicine that would be prescribed for heart disease were also thrown in. But honestly Charlie Rose couldn't tell the purposes besides the two clearly labeled over the counter pain meds she was used to.
"Speakin' of Theo, uh, he's got an awful bad headache, maybe a fever? Don't wanna speak for his pain level but like, it seems pretty bad." She nervously messed with the back of her neck, trying to let the texture of the once shaved undercut distract her from feeling awkward.
She patted his shoulder, the polite smile of introduction being replaced by some worried eyes. Charlie Rose knew how dangerous it was to get sick in these times, medical attention was so spread thin that a common infection could kill you. She supposed it would be even worse in winter. She remembered back to when she caught the cold a couple of weeks after the infection spread, but thankfully there was enough benedryl to keep her steady enough to fight the mourners off.

adeline had always been a light sleeper, but after weeks in the wilderness, she had trained herself to wake
up to the slightest disturbance. she opened her eyes to find that she had slept well. her thin body had sunk
into the mattress, and the soft blankets had made a nest of warmth around her. her eyes opened quickly
when she heard the front door open. swiftly, she climbed out of the blankets onto the cold floor. last night
she had thrown all of her clothes into a wash bin, and they were now hanging up to dry in the shower, so she
had found some clean night clothes in a garbage bag in one of the closets. now she was wearing a pair of light
gray baggy sweat pants, that she had rolled up around the ankle a few times because she was too short for
them, and a baggy white t-shirt that was probably a men's size, but it was comfortable regardless. her hair
was slightly wavier now that she had slept on it, but she didn't think it needed fixing. adeline walked out into
the hallway in only her socks, the cold air from the open door stinging her ankles. she could hear them talking
just outside the porch, but did not come around the corner until after she figured out what they were talking
about, medicine. adeline hadn't known that margot, the woman who had spent the night on her couch, had
been a doctor before the outbreak. adeline had enjoyed her company actually. the house would have been
lonely and dark if she had been there alone, but there was comfort in knowing that she wasn't completely
alone. eventually, adeline came around the corner, blankly listening to their conversation from in the doorway.

The guards knew Latamer well enough to know that it wasn't uncommon for him to leave and return frequently, and as long as Roden didn't express an opinion on it, neither did the guards, for the most part. It probably seemed a bit strange that he was leaving relatively-early in the morning, but nobody bothered him. As long as he acted innocent enough and asked to pass through the gates, he was allowed to do so. They used to call in and ask Roden, but they stopped doing so after like the third or fourth time. Their mistake.
Latamer strolled along the side of the road, focusing on the large new truck from the corner of his eye. The keys in his pocket shifted around and started to press against his skin. He digged them out and held them in his left hand, his gun in his right.
Latamer glanced over at the guards, one of which seemed to be keeping a close eye on him. He locked eyes with them and raised his brows in acknowledgement, hoping this would make them uncomfortable and look away, but they continued to stare. Latamer began to panic until he remembered that he was in control of the situation. He had the keys, and the truck was close enough for him to make a run for it before the guards could catch him. The only slight issue was the snipers in their hands, but he hoped he'd make it before it was too late, relying mostly on their likely hesitation to shoot. He began to speed-walk towards the gently-rusted door before breaking out into more of a jog, finally reaching its handle and pulling it open. He lifted himself into the enormous vehicle before slamming the door shut and searching for the ignition, only to realize that there was an extra set of keys inside the vehicle this entire time. That's great; he'd totally wasted his time! He shrugged it off and shoved the keys into the ignition anyway before driving off, hearing the distant shouts from the make-shift guard tower.

Aaron was, as usual, sitting on his cot. After Sam had left, the man had decided to take a short nap to calm his nerves. He awoke not long afterwards and found himself, once again, lonely. The guards stood by his cell, remaining as silent as always and earning a sigh from the prisoner. He glanced down at the floor, spotting a mouse in the corner of his cell. Aaron’s lips quirked up with amusement. “Hey, little guy. What are you doing in a place like this?” He asked, chuckling at his own ridiculousness. He was talking to a mouse. That was sure to make him look sane.

located Adeline's house - tagging Theo, Charlie, Adeline - feeling drowsy
As the unfamiliar woman handed her a plastic bag of various medicines, she gratefully took it. They would definitely be
useful once she got herself settled and could start patching people up. "Thank you, I'll make sure to sort through
these when I have a chance to," she responded, quickly peeking at the contents.
When she mentioned the man - Theo's - ailment, Margot quirked a brow at the man who seemed reluctant to be examined.
She would've liked to at least give him some proper painkillers from the bag she had just received, but she wouldn't force
him to stay. When the man started walking away before she had a chance to say anything, she turned her attention to
the woman. "Try to see that he gets some rest at the very least. If any more symptoms come up, bring him back,"
she advised, hoping that it was truly just a headache and nothing worse. Realizing she never introduced herself, she
spoke up again: "I'm Margot, by the way. Nice to meet you."
When the pair took their leave, she limped back inside the house. As she spotted Adeline's petite form in the doorway,
she closed the door properly to keep out the increasing chill. The girl looked quite amusing in the oversized t-shirt, but
Margot felt like they weren't familiar enough to comment on it. "Good morning, I hope I didn't wake you," she spoke
before flopping back on the couch. The crutches had left her arms sore, but at least her leg would get a chance to heal.
She'd have to change the bandage soon, but Adeline probably didn't want to see that.

Since she'd woken up, Nina had spent most of the day indoors, a pen in one hand while her other hand held a piece of paper down to the desk in her room. She'd always been a relatively talented artist, but never really did much with it beyond doodling during staff meetings while she was supposed to be listening and taking notes.
Nina continued to sketch any images that popped into her mind down onto the paper, trying desperately to recover the memories she had lost. She thought maybe, just maybe, if she could draw out the pieces she could remember, they might start to make more sense.
She didn't have much beyond an overly-detailed sketch of her car and the face of a large, bearded man with long hair. She remembered a scar on his eyebrow-- though she couldn't remember which eyebrow-- and pure fear on his face, which was strange, because he didn't seem like the type of man to be afraid of anything.
She also had several small sketches of a little girl, but it just didn't seem to be turning out right. Each one was scribbled over.
She dropped her pen and placed her hands on the top of her head, pulling her hair back from her forehead before groaning in frustration and letting her head fall to the desk. Her head began to throb as she felt a migraine coming on. Great! Just what she needed.
Nina got up from the desk and grabbed her coat before running downstairs and heading out the front door, not bothering to lock it behind her. She remembered the woman last night, Margot, mentioning that she was experienced in medicine. Maybe she had some pain meds on her. If she wanted to have even the slightest chance at remembering, she needed to be able to concentrate.
As she walked farther away from her own home, she stopped in her tracks and tried to remember where Margot lived. Did she even have a home yet? She suddenly remembered back to last night during the gathering in which Adeline had offered Margot to stay with her for the night. She racked her brain trying to remember where Adeline's home was; they all left the gathering together because she and Adeline lived close so she knew the younger woman lived nearby.
She turned back around and began to walk down the sidewalk of the neighborhood, trying to see if any of these houses would jog her memory. Movement from the corner of her eye caught her attention as she looked across the street to see Theo, one of the guards, and another woman she'd never seen before leave a house. Maybe they would know where Adeline lived, so she called out to them. "Hey!"

adeline shook her head gently. "no no, you didn't wake me, i slept kinda late anyway," she tried to assure
margot. adeline smiled slightly. "i didn't know you were a doctor, that's probably been very helpful since
the outbreak." she said. she didn't think being a doctor would be a burden. having the knowledge to take
care of yourself and others would be extremely helpful. adeline wasn't sure what kind of response she was
looking for, but she hoped to make some kind of conversation, she didn't want margot to feel unwelcome.
and maybe adeline finally had a chance for a friend, or even just an acquaintance; she was tired of feeling
completely alone in the big wide world.
after she spoke, she had heard a distant voice. it wasn't margot's, but it was extremely familiar. she thought
for a second about who it could be, before she remembered. it was nina, the other injured girl she had met
at the bonfire meeting the night before. they had all walked home the night before, and adeline had learned
that she had chosen a house fairly close to her own. adeline perked up in alertness, going back to the front
door and opening it. adeline didn't care that she was still in her pajamas, the apocalypse was no place for
formalities. she stepped out onto the porch in only her socks, glancing back at margot to signal her to come
out, only if she wanted to or felt like walking around on her sore leg anymore. "hey, nina!" adeline called out,
inviting her over to them. nina was down the sidewalk a little ways, past the small grassy lot that was beside
her home, and essentially at the neighbour's driveway. adeline didn't know if nina was busy today, but figured
the three of them might want to continue on their basic, friendly conversation from the night before. adeline
enjoyed having friends again.
