Gator nodded quickly at Madeline as they ripped open their banana and started scarfing it down. As they chewed, they scribbled out a note that said. "What's your name and favorite color? Mine is green." They looked at her with expectant eyes again, mouth full. But something interupted their gaze. Could it be, a preteen who also had no respect for Roden's privacy?
Alas, it was just a normal teen, Shin Suho. They'd never really had a conversation with him besides when Gator was tasked with handing out plates. They'd heard he used to play volleyball and sat on roofs, and that was the extent of information they could fish from the other towns people. And that was saying something, Gator was excellent at retrieving information. They thoughtfully chewed on their last bit of banana, squinting at the boy and sliding a bit of peel to Tripod on the floor.
Once Madeline responded to the note, Gator offered a smile and shot up from their chair. They gave a quick salute to Madeline and took a note to themself to talk to her more in just a minute. They marched up to where the boy was getting cereal, and squinted at him with a hand on their hip. What was he hiding? Tragic backstory or not, surely he needed company. They always seen him alone...
They scribbled their sentence on the piece of paper and handed it to Suho.
"You know this is my turf right? I'm the assigned annoying preteen to Roden. ):O."
They hoped it got across as humorous? It wasn't the best conversation starter, but they knew nothing about him. What were they gonna say. "Fancy a game of badmitten? know you like sports!" That did sound fun but also, super lame! They did hand it to him with a smile in hopes of coming across nicer, but they feared it came across sarcasticly. Once he looked up at them again they had their tongue stuck out in thought, pondering on how to get tone across in paper.

Valentin awoke to the sun drifting in through the curtains of his small home inside of Kingsdale. The tall man slipped slowly out of the comfort of his bed, acting almost as if this world wasn't a wasteland of disaster. Valentin stepped from his full sized bed- appearing in only a pair of sweatpants -and towards the bathroom of his bedroom, where he would peer into the shining mirror upon the wall. Valentin examined himself for a few minutes... The scruff on his face, his black hair swept back and bed headed, the gleam in his devious eyes. The man splashed his face with cold water, and gave it a quick wash and drying before combing out his smooth black hair with a sweeping motion. Once he felt like his prettying up was finished, he quickly brushed his teeth with a minty flavored toothpaste; furthermore, after spitting out the foam of the toothpaste, he cupped his hands under the water faucet. Valentin took a sip from his hands and swished the water around inside of his mouth. He poured the rest of the water out of his hands, and spit out the water from his mouth. Valentin wiped his face off with a tattered towelette, and tossed it aside into the abyss of the room. The rather handsome man maneuvered back into the main bedroom to throw on a white V-Neck long-sleeve, along with change his sweat pants into a pair of dark white washed jeans. With a huff, Valentin plopped down onto his bed and slipped a pair of black socks on, along with his military grade combat boots. Finally, he was ready to face the day for now, later he'd come back and pick up his weapons from their home in the closet for his daily patrol around the small town of Kingsdale that happened around the evening.
Valentin stepped out of his home, and closed the door behind him with a soft click of the lock jamming into place. Valentin moved across the street, and started his rather short walk towards Roden's house to get information about what must have happened last night after he skipped the gathering and went ahead to bed, which shortly happened after meeting the young girl, Adeline. Valentin shook himself out of his thoughts, and spotted he was nearly to the Roden's home. Valentin approached the door to the building slowly, and gave a signature three knocks before entering into the home. Once he entered through the door, and instantly found himself spotting several children of the town of Kingsdale, and a possibly stressed out Roden. He gave a quick salute to the man before giving a devious smirk. "Ah.. Roden. I didn't know you were such a father figure to the young ones." Valentin chuckled, his voice rough. Valentin finally stepped fully into the kitchen before turning his rather dark chocolate eyes towards the kids. "Speaking of the young ones, good morning to you all." He said, his Romanian accent coming out inside of his words.

She was caught off guard a bit when he commented on her accent, but she figured somebody would point it out eventually.
"Uh, yeah... American south, actually. Lived in Tennessee for quite a while as a kid, parents are from there. But uh, I've lived in a lot of place 'sides that. Military family, you know. " She added, messing with her black hair and trying to muss it out of her eyes in a vain attempt to look decent. Although in this sun some shade would've probably been welcomed.
She hummed in response to him as they started walking, her beat up hiking boot skimming against the cold packed dirt of the path.
"Yeah, I was thinking of a job like. A farmer? Ya'll got them here? And I could probably fit in doing some guard work during the nights. Like you were doin' when I came here." She finished with a sigh, looking at the buildings as she walked and rubbing her still mildly congested nose.
After a bit, they arrived at a huge garage like shed with a rusty tin roof and greened wooden stakes. Inside was her baby blue cabover, it's ever so tiny trailer attached by a wobbly fifth wheel. It looked perfectly fine to a stranger from this distance, but after staring at it for what seemed like months she knew something was off.
"Uh... I'm just gonna take a quick look at 'er and get my stuff out, be right back." She said half-hearted, words already drifting off at the end as she started walking faster.
She even started walking faster than Theo, more of a concealed jog than anything, dodging between a few abandoned cars.
Everything was the same besides a pretty sizeable scratch across the driver's side door. Once she arrived she ran her fingers across it, brow furrowed. It was pretty deep, the hard steel showing underneath layers of primer and paint. The truck was already ugly enough, didn't need more structual damage. Thankfully this thing was tougher than a brick, and a scratch wasn't going to stop it from running.
It did however make her wonder about the skills of whoever they had manning the wheel. Her brow furrowed and she tried not to make a big deal of it, she certainly wasn't as attached to this truck as she was to her old truck back home. Her chest tightened at the thought of it getting wrecked by stupid mourners where she'd parked it in California.
With pursed lips, she yanked open the door, grabbed onto the supports and pulled herself up. She was welcomed by the usual sights, at least they didn't steal anything. A large covered motor sat between the torn fabric seats, both piled with too many things. She slid into the seat and slammed the door, a bit frustrated about the scratch and wanting to be alone for a minute.
This truck felt a bit like a piece of home, a small bit of private property that wasn't given to her by anyone. She's the one who fixed this truck, she's the one who hung cheap party decorations from the short ceiling of it to make herself laugh, she's the one who patched the holes in the trailer. She's the one who owned it. Before she did anything, she fished the keys from her bag and started it. The low rumble was music to her ears, she was worried the frost might have messed with it's new starter.
She flicked the heating system on and finally got to work grabbing the things she needed. Her suitcase filled with clothes, a few plastic bags of random things she'd taken from the convenience store,Including the medicine, and her hidden chocolate bar that was only slightly melted. Thankfully it was cold enough that everything hadn't melted like the last time the truck had been left overnight without her.
She looked at the doorway before her, concerned with how full her arms were. She would have asked for help, but, she was peeved. She threw her suitcase out of the door with a grunt and climbed out successfully with the few plastic bags.
Once she'd fully exited, she grabbed up her suitcase and tried to spot Theo.
"Hey so, do you know I'd give this medicine to? Like, doctors?"

There were three knock on his door, his fourth guest opening it himself before he could get a chance to head over there. What is the point of knocking if you're just going to walk in anyway? Also, what was Valentin doing in his home? He almost asked this himself, but decided against it as he lifted his hands to his face and rubbed the bridge of his nose. He had no idea why there were so many kids in his house, but he assumed-- or at least prayed- that Valentin had a reason to be here. He knew he was both a border and entrance guard; Roden told him he didn't have to spend all of his time guarding, but apparently it's something he likes doing, so he just didn't question it. "Good morning. What brings you here?" Roden finally asked, peering into his cereal bowl to see the sad, soggy mess inside.

Juliet and Rosie trucked through the woods for hours it seemed. Juliet was a skilled navigator but this was terrain she was not used to and she was taking care of a child. She couldn't cover nearly as much ground as she would have by herself. However, Juliet never once thought about leaving Rosie by herself. The small girl was tough considering all that has happened withing her short life but deep down she was still just a young girl. So every couple of hours they would stop and warm up with the dogs huddling around them. It wasn't much longer until they found the walls keeping everything out. "Jules is this it?" Juliet's eyes dashed around taking it in. Trying to decide which way they should follow the barrier. Her blue eyes looked down and gave a soft smile, "I do hope so. Remember though always..."She was cut off suddenly, "Be on guard." A sweet smile was looking back up at Juliet. The two continued walking for if they stopped the cold would set in more quickly. Juliet had gotten the blanket out and wrapped Rosie in it to keep the little body warm.

Charlie Rose nodded at Theo about the doctor, but was too tired to trek there right now with all the bags across her arms. She sighed at his question, letting the suede suitcase fall from her grasp with a thunk and leaning against the same wall. She let the other bags down too, heaving in another breath. She held up one finger until she caught it.
She used to be much more fit than this, but being cooped up in a basement of a store didn't do wonders for one's fitness.
She crossed her arms, squinting at the bleached sun and think about his question.
"I was stuck in a convenience store for quite a few months-" She started, still looking at the bright sky. "I've met one fairly recently, I guess. At first there was a cashier that worked where I was hiding, he was too scared to leave once he saw the news." Her gaze turned to the ground, and her expression turned a bit sour.
"He left in the first few weeks though," She rubbed her forearm across her runny nose, fidgeting. "He, uh. Tried to go home. Took his car and just went. I don't know if he survived, but... He was nice. Name was Arthur." She finished, kicking her boot at the ground in an attempt to bring up dust.
"I haven't talked to anybody besides that though, kind of went stir-crazy even though I had it pretty good supply-wise. Although eating truck stop candy for your rations isn't exactly ideal." She let out a breathy chuckle, and then looked back at Theo's face.
She squinted, head tilting with concern. "You alright bud? Headache or fever?" Without thinking about it, her mom-friend instincts kicked in and she placed the back of her hand to his forehead. It was warm, but she didn't know if it was a fever. Could have just been the rare clear sun beaming on them. She felt her on forehead too, and couldn't decide if it was the same tempature. She then realized that was a pretty weird thing to do to a stranger, but she didn't really care..
"We're going to the doctors anyways, might as well have somebody look at you there." She looked away, her big blackish eyes blinking in slight embaressment. She wiped her hand on her pants as if touching him had infected her before hauling the plastic bags back up onto her arms. "Well, after I put this stuff away," She said with a strained smile, starting back on the short walk to her house.
She was mostly wordless on the trip back, trying to go through her head and remember if she forgot something. Maybe she would have remembered she'd let the keys still in the ignition. That is, if her mind wasn't concentrating on the image of Arthur again.
She jogged inside the house, swerving between gaudy furniture and dumping the bags onto the kitchen table. She would have offered him to come in, but she was in a hurry to visit the medic. Part of her just really wanted to meet a new person, and part of her was curious what the bottles actually held. She'd always wondered as she stared at them in her passenger seat. Protecting them as if they were golden currency.
Charlie Rose snatched the medicine bag from the pile and started back, already locking the front door and scanning for Theo.
"I'm ready!"

⚔⚔⚔ RIAH GRAIRE ! ! ──────────────────────────
───────────────────── i. scavenger. ii. tagged: sam. iii. kingsdale
riah was bored. after last night's commotion with not one, but two newcomers, riah had gone back home, back to that little hut where their dog stark remained asleep. riah envied him a little, but didn't mind much once they settled down for the night as well. they knew that tomorrow, stark would be up and running, eager to go chase something as usual. but that would be tomorrow and not tonight as riah had hoped. no, for now, the door had been locked, the rifle had gone on the kitchen table, and the lights had gone out.
riah woke up later to a sqealing britanny dog, whining and pawing at the sleeping human. they got up with a grumble, quickly throwing on whatever was nearby and stepping outside for the dog. a few minutes later, they returned to clean up and feed stark eat a little themselves, emptying the last of a cereal box's contents into a bowl. stark impatiently wove between their legs as they ate, scrambling for the door when both bowls were empty. the two headed out of the house for the gate before riah considered the benefits of bringing someone else. they stopped and turned in a different direction, heading towards someone who could probably use an adventure; riah stopped before sam's door. they brought their hand up to pound on the door a few times, then loudly called out: "c'mon sam, we're going scavenging! you made a promise and i'm just collecting it."
riah didn't actually remember him making any promise at all, but they figured it would be fun to at least banter about it.
♟♟♟ MAAR YASTRIBOV ! ! ─────────────────────
────────────────────────── i. chef. ii. tagged: n/a. iii. kingsdale.
it was so cold. maar was under three of his warmest blankets and wearing fleece clothes, but he was still cold. granted, he was almost always cold, his attire never worn without a pullover, hoodie, or a warm jacket. he thought it would be enough to stay warm throughout the night, but clearly he wasn't. it was in times like these that he missed his bed warmer; once the mourner's disease broke out, he decided to cut down on its use to help conserve energy. they did have solar panels installed, yes, but maar figured there were more important things that needed that energy. there were more important things than maar being a little cold. before his parents had died, he had joked that one of his distant relatives was a politician, hence a portion of his blood being a lizard's blood, which was why he was cold. the thought made him nauseous now when he thought about how his mother had laughed at it, tears in her eyes as she practically doubled over in laughter.
so instead maar rose, pulling on a pair of wool socks and throwing a wool scarf around his neck and over his ears. he quite liked scarves and had a wide assortment of scarves, randing from thin decorative scarves to heavy-duty woolen scarves that were nearly large enough to be considered blankets and all sorts of plush scarves in between. once dressed, he stumbled outside, curling in on himself, and headed over to where he could get more wood for his firstove, both for heating and to boil water for tea and to cook buckwheat.

━ Sam started at the sudden knock on his door, instinctively scrambling for some sort of weapon. He relaxed, though, when Riah's voice filtered through the air. Running a hand down his face, he padded to the door and cracked it open enough to where he could see their face but not let the chill in too much. "Alright, alright... I'm right here. Gimme a sec..." He was not ready to get moving this early in the day, but he supposed this was better than staring pitifully at his garden. "You can come in if you want."
Pulling back, he opened the door for Riah and retreated back into his kitchen. What did he need? Knife, boots, pack, coat. His boots and coat were dumped beside the door, but his knife was on his nightstand, and God only knew where his pack had been slung to. Muttering to himself and running a hand through his hair, he puttered to his bedroom and grabbed his knife. With the blade clipped to his hip, he returned to the kitchen and began pulling on his boots. The worn leather grain was still stained with mud from yesterday's adventure, and there were a few darker stains that Sam figured were dried blood. He pursed his lips and laced up the boot before standing and looking to Riah.
"I, uh, have misplaced my pack somewhere. One moment." His stuff was usually placed in a semi-orderly place that he wouldn't forget. Whatever the reason, that wasn't the case for his scavenging bag. He flitted in and out of rooms and closets until he spied the strap of it strewn on the floor in the corner of the bathroom. How it had ended up there, he had no idea. He flipped through the empty pockets and threw it over his shoulder. He returned to the kitchen and hastily shrugged on his coat before joining Riah. "Alright, ready to go now." He told them, his breathless voice a bit strained.

The newcomers who'd just arrived in town the night before seemed fairly normal, one being a child who looked no older than twelve and another being a very tall woman. What caught his eye about their arrival, however, was the large truck that he could only assume the woman had arrived in. He knew that wasn't there before; he certainly would've noticed it. He thought about how many mourners a vehicle of that size could kill and strongly considered baiting them out of the woods and running over them all at once, or at the very least scarring them far away from town. It was ambitious, but he was sick of sitting here and doing nothing.
The other part of him also really wanted to drive that truck. He's probably going to die soon anyway, so what's the harm in having a bit of fun and potentially protecting the town at the same time? If the woman's drive from wherever she came from all the way to town didn't attract every mourner in the area, clearly he wouldn't attract any either, right?
He'd thought about this for the rest of the night, finally deciding that come early morning, he would go and look for those keys. He prayed that Roden hadn't confiscated the keys and that the woman still had them on her, but that was a chance he'd have to be willing to take. He didn't consider the consequences of his actions; his reckless ideas were the only things that ever seemed to be on his mind nowadays.
He'd end up sleeping a little longer than he'd expected, but as he exited the front door of the small home he'd claimed as his own, he thought only about his current mission: to find those keys.
He strolled along the sidewalk, hoping he'd catch a glimpse of her. She was tall so she shouldn't be too difficult to spot. A shout from behind him had suddenly caught his attention, causing him to whip his head back to see who the voice belonged to. Sure enough, the new woman had just exited her home and locked the door. He watched silently as she left the property and headed back to Theo, one of the towns guards, and waited for them to be far enough to where he could sneak over to her home and search for a spare key. There had to be one somewhere. Or maybe he could get in through a window? He thought about how much trouble he'd be if he got caught but swallowed this fear and decided to ignore it.

She responded to Theo once she'd closed the door, plastic bag in the crook of her arm. She looked concernedly at him, but then remembered she'd shut the door on his comment about the house. She didn't notice Latamer walking by, eyes too focused on Theo's pained expression.
"This house is pretty, yeah. Got lucky, s'got three floors. Little nursery that's abandoned too. You wouldn't happen to know who used to live here would you?" She continued as she hopped down the wooden stairs and onto the normal path, beginning to follow Theo.
Her look of worry never completely vanish, and she was still trying to think of anything she could do to help. Once they arrived, Charlie Rose leaned against the post of the old building and dug through the bag, biting her lip.
"Well, if she isn't home, you could take these," She grabbed an orange topped bottle and unloaded two pills into her hand. It was probably wasteful to most, using painkillers in the apocalypse on a headache. But she couldn't stand to see decent people in pain. "It seems like a really bad one, I'm sure the doctor would have wanted you to take some Motrin anyways."
She held out her hand with the pills in it, but her eyes were still trained on the door. She desperately wanted to find out what these pills are, and it would be a shame if she had to wait until the next day. Which reminded her, she should really be visiting Roden and talking to him about her job soon. Talk about getting sidetracked.
"Also, you know where Roden is? I need to talk to him about where I'll be workin'." She added, sitting the plastic bag on the wooden rail.
