The short locks had already dried from the persistent sun beaming down on them, crusting them with leftover salt brought from the ocean. Her clothes were damp and her shoes were still uncomfortably wet. The feeling of wet clothes hadn't bothered her in her shocked phase but she tugged off her boots anyway and rested them on the sand next to her. She knew she should get up, knew that sitting around wasn't helping her or the other scarce survivors, but her numbness scared her. What had always been a fun story to watch in movies had become a reality for her and the other passengers. Never in a million years did she think she would ever experience a plane crash. A car accident sure, she'd be surprised if it never happened. She had never really thought about what to do in survival situations, much less in an island environment. She regretted that ignorance now.
Gathering up the willpower to stand, she rose from her crouch and brushed off sand with shaky hands. The air smelled salty and fresh, biting her nose in a way farm air never had. The thought brought a pang to her heart; what would her parents think? Her siblings? They would probably assume she was one of the numerous casualties. She wanted to shout and let the wind carry her voice, to let her family know that she was alive, but she hadn't even said a word since she reached the shore. Trying to take her mind off the island's isolation, she forced her gaze to scan the island. Crystal blue waves lapped at the shore, never getting close to the jungle-forest that hid most of the land. An achingly small amount of people dotted the sand, all as disheveled and shocked as she felt. She made to walk towards them, repeating left right left right over and over in her mind. It was easier to focus on one small task at first. The girl used a gritty hand to shield her eyes from the sun, squinting as the light reflected against the beach. Sun exposure wasn't new to her; she had spent long hours a day on the farm to earn her golden tan. This was a different type of sunlight. It was sharp and unfeeling, sending wave after wave of heat that their lack of shelter didn't help with. She was absolutely miserable for the first time in her life. Sand was everywhere. The sun was everywhere. She was stiff everywhere. She didn't even know anyone here, and stopped at the edge of the group. The gardener didn't know how to approach anyone, didn't know if she even wanted to.

His fair skin was already starting to burn, giving him a pinkish hue on his cheeks and nose. It had been hours since the plane had crashed, but the other surviving passengers seemed to still be numbed and shaky. They simply sat and stared with empty gazes. A part of him understood this. He had wanted to curl up once he made contact with the beach, to cover his face like he had as a child. The urge to hide hadn't left him, but one wouldn't know that by his expression. It was calm and neutral, slightly weary but still with a clear conscience. It was an easy mask despite the situation. The man wasn't quite sure on the specifics of survival, but knew the basics. Find shelter: the days would be long, hot, and humid but the nights would be cold. To protect from the sun and wind, they needed to either find or make shelters. Anything they made now would be useless against storms, but it would be improvement. Find water: pretty obvious, the first thing that comes to anyone's mind. His lips were already dry and chapped from the saltwater and he was sure every other survivor was just as dehydrated. Find food, materials, anything else. It was a daunting task.
The man gave a sigh and rose from his crouch under the shade of a meek tree, feeling the blood flow to his legs in painful waves. He had thankfully escaped the crash with only a few gashes and plenty of bruises. That couldn't be said about many of the other passengers and he felt a river of grief flow through him. So many ordinary people leading different lives, so much death. He remembered looking at their faces before the plane began to go down, trying to see what the normal citizen looked like. A variety of features had met him, but their eyes burned into his memory. Most were cheery and bright in anticipation. Now they were accusing and loathful in his mind. Although he knew that an accident chooses victims at random, he still felt guilty that he had survived. He had experienced so many privileges in his life simply because of his family and this didn't feel fair. Distracting himself from the dreadful thoughts, he did some light stretches in an attempt to loosen up his locked muscles and watched the other survivors. He didn't know them, didn't know their personalities, but he sincerely hoped that they would be able to cooperate efficiently. The classics about a group surviving together on an island didn't give him hope. He wondered how many of the people he saw would die before rescue, if they even get rescued.

Claire Mercer had decided, mere minutes after she crawled, exhausted, on to the shore of the beach, that she was absolutely not stranded, despite the appearance of the circumstances the twenty-three year old had somehow landed in. No, she wasnโt stranded, simply misplaced a while; eventually she - and everyone misplaced alongside her - would be found. People would be searching for them soon enough. Yes, they'd be fine. It was this thought that kept a gentle smile on the brunette's face as she leaned back on her palms with her back to the water, splaying her fingers as she pushed gently down into the sand. Her hair hung down past her shoulders limply, damp and tangled, strands tickling her neck with a cool touch as she jutted her chin upwards and allowed her eyelids to slide half-shut. She idly shifted a foot in the sand, the grains soft against her bare feet. She'd had shoes on, of course, but they were gone, slipped off her feet and probably at the bottom of the ocean now. A minor inconvenience.
The high sun would no doubt leave her with some burns, but for now it wasn't so bad as the warm rays danced over her face, chasing any lingering chill she might have been left with from her time in the water. She could hear the waves lapping gently at the shore behind her, stretching towards her, but just out of reach of the point she sat on. The sound of the water formed a soothing natural melody. It sounded so calm now, a far-cry from when she had found herself struggling to stay afloat in open ocean as she kicked with all her might towards the distant appearance of land. Land, which she now sat on. Her lungs burned briefly, a fleeting phantom of her imagination that she chased away with a deep breath.
She opened her eyes, her gaze flicking to see the wet backpack of bottle-green hue that lay by her side. Previously, it had contained a small amount of her luggage, books and trinkets and the like, but no longer. Those contents she had been forced to dump into the oceans so that the weight of the bag which she had found herself so vehemently desiring to keep hold of as she struggled for her life didn't weight her down. She had only even managed to take it off the plane because it had been right there, clutched on her lap as the plane had first started to have the turbulence which eventually had led to the eventual crash. It was a silly thing to take comfort in, but it was familiar, it was hers. It would be useful, she supposed, for surviving until she was no longer misplaced.
She shifted her view to survey the tree line that lay just beyond the beach, her gaze resting eventually on a figure sitting beneath a tree. She pulled the backpack to her and shook some of the sand clotted to it as she rose to her feet, sliding one of the straps across her shoulder. It didn't take her too long to reach the man. "Hello," she said cheerfully, surprised at how hoarse her voice sounded. She held out a hand and smiled at him, her tone warm as she looked him up and down. "My name's Claire."

he was already debating on leaving on his own to start gathering stuff or mingle with the other survivors for some help to create a functioning plan. gabe was deep in thought when someone approached him. it was not until he noticed the wave that she was not just passing him. she looked rather young, probably mid teens to be honest. she spoke up and the young man simply shook his head at her words. "you may have a knife, just like me but until i see some survival skills in you kid, i can't assume you do." he said lightly, though not in the form of hurting her feeling but rather being truthful about it. while water was the main concern here, they would need a fire if they couldn't find a fresh source, maybe some bamboo stocks, if they grew here, to help with boiling the water also. he began walking, looking back at marley. "you're free to join me, i'm going to see if i can get us a fire started and then if there is still daylight, some water." he explained. the nights here would probably be less than warm, the wind currents that the ocean brought tended to be colder at night after all.

- - -The sandy-blonde man sat in the warm, white sand with his arms wrapped around his knees, hands holding onto each other. Rowen Fletcher had been sitting like this for some time now, staring out across the ocean, listening to the waves lap against the shore. How did he end up here? Well, he knew that answer but how did he end up here, being a plane crash survivor? This first and only time he'd ever been on a plane, and the thing crashes into the ocean. Just his luck. Could be worse... He thought to himself. He could have died or even maimed from the wreckage. But the events of the past few hours felt surreal, almost as if he wasn't the one experiencing it.
- - -Staring out at the water wouldn't bring the plane or all of those who died on impact back to reality; Rowen urged himself. He just wished that more cargo from the hull had made its way to the island with them. Hopefully in time, it would. Supplies would most certainly be needed if they were all going to survive.
- - -He took a few moments to gaze out across the beach on either side of him. People were starting to gather in smaller groups. Right after, everyone had been somewhat solitary; most likely from shock. Probably attempting to cope with the circumstances, if anyone really could cope with being deserted on an island. Sick of this way of thinking, Rowen pushed himself onto his feet. Somehow he had managed to keep his work boots on through it all. Brushing off his sandy hands on faded blue jeans, he started slowly trudging over to the gathering people. Much needed to be done if they were going to make it through this.

- - -As soon as Isla Sommers hit the beach, the young woman pulled herself ashore and collapsed onto her back. Her breathing was labored and raspy. She could never remember a time when she had needed to swim or exert that much energy. However, that wasn't to say that Isla was out of shape. The girl had been used to hard work, but this was something new altogether. So much for my first swim in the ocean... she had thought negatively, staring up at the blue sky. She had laid there for quite some time, her hands placed on her chest, watching the wispy clouds roll by. Her mind trailed to anther place, as she drowned out the sobs and screams of others coming ashore.
- - -Perhaps she was in shock? Was this what shock felt like... Forgetting the world and the tragedy around you? Either way, Isla didn't care. Her bright hazel-blue hues stayed locked up at the sky. Something that she often did back when she was on top of roofs for a living. Back when... like it had been ages ago. Well, in a sense it was worlds away from the situation she had found herself wound up in. After what felt like hours, Isla forced herself to sit up. Her arms slunk to the sand in between her legs as she looked around at her new surroundings. She made sure not to come in eye contact with the water. She wasn't ready to face the harsh reality of where they all had ended up. That would be pushed down to the back depths of her thoughts. Not the healthiest way to deal with her emotions. But then again, Isla never really was one for health of mind or body. Man... I'd do just about anything for a cigarette right about now.
- - -Not caring that her back was mostly caked in sand, she willed her body move further up and onto her feet. Shaky at first, her arms swaying to help steady herself. After gaining her footing, Isla scanned around herself. Many were beginning to gather into a large group. Smart. They would need to band together if they were to make it through this. As much as she wasn't fond of social situations, she knew that she would have to face those fears head on. A heavy sigh escaped her lips as Isla took one last look around herself before heading in the way of the others. To her surprise, a blonde girl was further up the beach from her and laying in a tree. At least someone can see the positive in all this... "I'll have whatever your having." Isla called out to her in a lighthearted tone.

He started towards the trees, looking back at Marley and inviting her to join. After a moment's hesitation, Marley followed after him. What was there to lose? She dropped her shoes from around her neck, quickly untying the knots in the laces and putting them on. She jogged to catch up with the man, then walked in step with him. "What's your name?" Marley itched to show him up and tell him what she could do, but decided to wait until the opportunity arose.
She looked around the jungle around her. She could already see edible fruit all around, and she could hear the screech of birds overhead and other insects. Marley knew humans couldn't survive on just fruit alone, so she hoped there were good hunters or fishers who'd survived the crash. She was an okay fisher, and only a decent shot with a bow and arrow. Her traps never worked, although that may have been because there were no more rabbits or squirrels stupid enough to fall for them left around the summer camp.

Natalia is drawn out of her thoughts as she hears a lighthearted voice call out to her. She glances down from her spot in the decently tall tree tree, her long platinum blonde hair swaying in the late afternoon breeze. She spots the short-haired woman and forces a small smile, although she was quite amused by the woman's comment, she wasn't the most social person. "Then climb on up hun." She says with a grin, patting the branch of the tree as if jokingly telling her to climb it. She then carefully sits up, messy and tangled curls framing her face; the last thing she wanted to do was fall and break a bone out here. She sighs, irritated by her thick and untamed hair; whenever it got wet or damp it always became naturally curly and wavy. Afterwards, Natalia takes another glance at the woman; "I'm Natalia by the way. But you can call me Nat if you'd like to." She says, tucking a stray strand of hair behind her ear.
She then looks up at the sky, noticing that night time was slowly approaching and the clouds were starting to overtake the sun. It was good for her, since her pale skin wasn't exactly fond of it's rays. She begins to wonder what will happen to the group. But her primary goal when night fell was to find an area of freshwater so she could bathe. She hated the feeling of salt all over her, and it agitated her greatly. Another struggle she'd have is finding things she'd like to eat, considering she was pretty picky. She absolutely hated fish.. and would rather die than eat any kind of bug or insect. So far, fruit or wild boar seemed like the only things she could think of that she'd be okay with. Plus, with her way of getting sick easily, it'd weigh the group down. She begins to wonder if she should branch off from the main group so that she does not do so.

[ male | twenty-three| tagged: florencehe didn't want to believe it. no...it couldn't be happening. it had to be a dream...right? there was no way that the plane taking him to his next international competition could have crashed into the ocean, in the middle of nowhere. it had to be some kind of sick, twisted nightmare. but he knew he was just deluding himself with his wishful thinking. people didn't feel pain in their dreams, and he most definitely felt the dull throbbing of his forearm. it didn't feel like a fracture - because he was more than used to what a fracture felt like - so it was most likely a small sprain. the sun beat down on the back of his neck as he dragged himself across the sand. he needed to get to shelter, and quickly. it was too hot...even hotter than the dry season in bangkok! but maybe he was just exaggerating. nothing could be worse than the dry season in bangkok. at least the sun could dry off his soaking wet clothes - comfortable and fashionable in the urban environment of seoul but completely useless in the sand. he could practically feel the grains of sand crawling up the inside of his jeans. it was just too gross.
he spotted people - yes, people! - and began to head in that direction. probably other survivors, he mused, and hoped that there was someone who spoke at least a little korean. his manager was the one who travelled with him and translated for him, and maybe he had survived the crash too. he sent a prayer up to whatever gods and goddesses were up in heaven that his manager had survived. or at least, someone else who knew what to do. his eyes relaxed when he entered the shaded area beneath the canopy, safe from the blinding sunlight. it was only then that he could scan the faces of the other survivors. some were already speaking to each other, and he wondered if they'd already known each other. how fortunate for them if it was so. his gaze sought the familiar face of his manager, the middle-aged man with greying hair and stern eyes. but no luck.
instead, he spotted a girl - a young woman, more like - who stood nearby yet not speaking to anyone. there were a few others like her, standing alone, but she looked the nicest. and he thought, even if she couldn't understand him completely, he might still be able to make friends if they could exchange smiles. so he shuffled over, putting on his brightest grin. "hello!" he chirped, relieved that he at least knew how to greet in english. were you on the airplane too? he wanted to ask, but his limited vocabulary. "you...too fly?" he gestured to the ocean, the direction he had swum from, and then spread out his arms like the wings of an airplane. he could only hope she could understand his meaning.

she lifted her hand to shield her eyes from the sun, her eyes were fuzzy from the direct sunlight causing her to blink a few times for her eyes to adjust. heading toward the survivors as she dragged her feet through the sand and listening to the sound of the waves. it seem somewhat peaceful as she listened to the sea, but this situation was not at all peaceful. mia made her way to the group seeing some of them chatting as they were getting to know each other, for some reason she was gathering that these people seemed quite calm. but they were stranded and hundreds of people had lost their lives. mia shook her head getting thought out of her mind, maybe they were only acting this way to forget about the situation, trying to make it somewhat 'normal'. with a deep breath she scanned the group thinking she needed to really talk to someone maybe get some answers on where we are? and what happened? she had many questions racing through her head but she thought no one could really answer them. for now her questions have to remain unanswered.
these people must have all different backgrounds, she wondered where they came from. all different lives coming together, unfamiliar faces but some she swiftly saw as she boarded the plane. she knew nothing of these people and who they are. but she must get to know these people and become friends with them, work with them as she didn't know how long they were going to be here. the former model knew they would have to find a water source and the sea was out of the question. she remembered that her mother told her when she was younger, it was the first time she had been to the beach when she was seven. she was about to drink the sea water but her mother stopped her telling her it would make her sick. with a small huff, she missed her mother the only person that really cared for her. in her eyes her mother was her best friend, she told everything to her mother. mia had never really had close friends. being in a private school most of the students were stuck up.
her eyes caught a girl heading towards the ocean. her eyes widened when she saw the girl about to drink from the sea. quickly she reacted, like her mother did when she was about to drink the salty liquid. mia ran towards the girl, the sand flicking up behind her. as she reached the girl she slapped the water from her hands, not hard enough to hurt her but just enough to get it out of her hands before it could touch her lips. "honey you can't drink that, it will make you sick." she told her softly. the girl looked young maybe early teens. "we will find a source of water that you can drink, i think the people here maybe trying to figure out where" once again her voice was soft and silky as her motherly side was brought out by the girl. her eyes scanned the group once again, and saw a guy with a knife a rather big one in fact. maybe he knew what he was doing, well she hoped.

gabe had caught the girl's words when she had stated it wasn't just a knife. though he knew that from the looks of it, he had mainly been referring to the current blade which she held and not the other things it came with. though he could not see what they were, he knew it was probably a multi tool that may come in handy in the long run. she wasn't too talkative which was a good thing, though they both seemed to be making a lot of noise with their foot steps. barefoot, the young man was doing a lot of wincing here and there though marley wouldn't be able to tell since she was behind him. there were a couple thorns around and they seemed to like his feet more than ever. his shoes were ruined and they honestly wouldn't be of much use soaked as it was best to keep one's feet dry as much as possible in a situation such as this. he looked around, spotted a few coconut trees and then he came to an abrupt halt. though not a water source, if there were coconuts on the ground, they could offer some fluids to help some of the others repenlish their thirst. he was more worried about everyone else than himself to be honest, nothing out of the ordinary for himself.
"it's gabriel, though most people just call me gabe." he said to marley. "and you?" he questioned her in response as he made his way towards the tree. a few coconuts lay on the ground untouched, maybe two or three, the rest he could tell were already rotting. the tree would be tall enough for a person on his shoulders to reach, hopefully to knock down a few if they had good balance. "you up for knocking down a few coconuts?" he added after a small pause as he examined the green shells of the coconuts on the ground. hopefully they weren't rotting on the inside, the only way to tell would be to hack them open somehow without dulling the knife he had.

of course she had decided to leave the beach but at the same time, she knew that salt water was still water, though it may not be good for you. just a few sips wouldn't hurt her right? though she was very wrong on the matter, she turned and headed towards the ocean, brown hair going all sorts of way as the wind blew but mostly in the girl's face. it seemed some of the folks around were already chatting to others, lucy was a bit socially awkward to approach anyone willingly. her shyness tended to make it known about that along with her anxiety. the sand was hot but not unbearable as was that of the heat of the sun. though she was dressed for the heat, it was still rather hot and she could already feel the stickiness to her skin from the humidity. oh how she wished she had air condition right now, it would honestly be a life saver along with some sun screen. her skin was already turning a palish pink from the rays that the sun was casting down from the sky.
crouching down, she first ran her fingers through the cool water, unknowing to her that drinking it would further her dehydration among other things. though the fourteen year old would risk a few sips just to keep her mouth from drying, then she'd work up the courage to leave the beach and find something better, what she didn't now in all honesty. fingers creating small waves in the luke warm water, she soon cupped her hands and let them fill with the clear liquid. the first handful she splashed against her neck and face, aiming to help cool her skin down. though the second held more of a bad decision in the form of being sipped at. once again she let her hands fill with the salt water, almost until it was brimming over the sides of her hands. she slowly brought it up to her face, just about to drink it to ease her dry mouth for the time being.
her hands were pushed away from her and the water splashed into the ocean once more, back to its original source. a look of surprise and then fear crossed the girl's face as she knew not who had just done such a thing so boldly. it wasn't until she looked up to see a young woman towering over her that was the culprit of such actions. it was then that she spoke and all lucy did was swallow hard, her mouth even more dry than it had been before as her anxiety decided to rear its ugly head again, along with her shyness. "i .. uh.h i. didn't know." the girl said in a rather raspy but soft toned voice. who knew that a little salt water could make someone sick and that was the last thing that the girl wanted in this situation. lucy followed the woman's gaze and looked at the group of people mingling, her worse nightmare honesty, being in a crowd with a bunch of strangers and no one to turn to. she had said they would find drinkable water but lucky wanted an estimated time at least. the trek here was already enough to exert most of her energy, she did swim some of the way. if she could, she would've told her mother that the swim team paid off big time for such an occasion despite its unbearable reality.

female | 16 | bisexual | tags:. Gabriel"Marley." She stopped next to Gabriel, making a disgusted face as she stepped on a rather large insect on the ground. Marley was definitely a city girl, despite her survival skills. "No nickname. And fine. Do I have to get on your shoulders?" She looked up at the palm tree, squinting against the sun. She couldn't think of another way to get to the coconuts. "If I have to get up on your shoulders, you're not allowed to hold on to my legs." Marley huffed, resting her weight on one leg. "I really did not see my week going like this." She shoved her swiss army knife in her front jean shorts pocket, and adjusted her beanie, pushing her hair back. "Alright, let's do this."
