- sunlight entered from an adjacent window pane, filtered through semi-opened blinds, softly
warming her skin. her cats maurice and edgar sat at her feet, also enjoying the gentle rays
of light. the humming of her mother resonated in her head, comforting. a young amoret, no
older then ten or twelve, sat in her quilted flower-print bed, content. the homely smell of fre
sh pancakes and the clanking of plates agaist silverware stirred her from her daze. "amor, b
reakfast is ready--"
amoret awoke with a jump, drenched and bewildered by what appeared--no, tasted, like sea
water. a thousand thoughts ran through her head at once, but her body reacted more quickly,
lurching away from the waves of a rising current. her chest heaved, with more so panic than
effort, as she now stood away from the water's edge drenched, confused, and dazed. a mome
nt ago she dreamed of warm childhood memories, and now, "where am i?" she looked to the
sky; it appeared to be dawn, and there were no buildings, skylines, or anything remotely recog
nizable for that matter. just trees, sand, and water. this was a beach, maybe even an island,
that much was clear. amor reached for her pockets in desperation, digging for her phone. go
ne. she scanned the ground, even splashed around a bit in the water. she mumbled a string
of curse words, having no luck. here she was, on some shoreline, with no idea of how or why s
he got there.
after a few moments deliberation, she decided to walk along the treeline of the beach. maybe
she could find some-sort of answers to her questions. and the treeline offered good cover, just
in case she wasn't alone on this island. "this place, wherever it is, might not be safe... and
i'm not taking any chances," she muttered.
