▪ ▪ ▪for generations, the heavens have enjoyed a quiet period of peace and harmo
ny. but then it started. there were always a few gods who went through reincarnat
ions more readily than others, but then more and more gods were forced through r
ebirth. the witnesses who managed to be found out confirmed that the gods, prior
to their rebirths, suffered serious cases of blight and oftentimes became disturbed
enough to go mad.
▪ ▪ ▪finally acknowledging that these rebirths are in fact not a part of the gods' des
tinies, the heavens have commanded for all gods to put their efforts towards deter
mining the reason behind the discord. those loyal, or perhaps even disloyal, to the
heavens have gathered at their superiors' calling to work with one another despite
previous feuds between them as the gods recognize that this is no longer a person
al problem but a threat to the existence of the heavens.

▪ ▪ ▪the reason behind the gods' speedy reincarnations stems from their closest alli
es. their regalia. several shinki from all sorts of gods find that their lives serving t
he holy beings are unsatisfactory. instead of another lifetime, they wish for anoth
er chance, or perhaps some are upset over their shortened, previous lives. whatev
er they feel, they wish to cause disharmony in the heavens as revenge, starting wi
th their own gods. the regalia have called themselves the liberators. to keep their
identities hidden from the others, these shinki are able to hide their own corruptn
ess through various methods with the most prominent and easiest one being taking
herbal mixtures. will they finally get what they've always wanted? or will justice
of the heavens triumph over as they've always done?

near shore - the world of living beings such as humans. the beings from the near shore typically cannot see the beings of the far
shore, like gods, shinki, or ayakashi. there are a few exceptions, of course. many animals and small children are still attuned wit
h the far shore and can see the far shore residents. [more info here]

blight (ヤスミ) - a term used to describe wounds caused by a phantom and corrupt gods, shinki, and souls. blight is known by visi
ble purplish-red mark on the affected area of the body, although the appearance differs between gods and souls. a god, a shink
i or a soul can get impure through three ways as follows: when the god, shinki or the soul is attacked by phantoms; when a soul t
ouches the blight mark and get infected; and when a shinki commits a sin. [more info here]

phantoms (ayakashi) - creatures that come from the far shore but like to influence humans and other living things in the near s
hore. the most common type of phantom are eye balls. their size and shape may vary. they appear slightly transparent and are u
sually either black, white, grey or a mixture of fluorescent colours. some resemble real animals. notable ones include: toads, wo
lves, squids, scorpions, rabbits, moths, bats, and birds. [more info here]

naming guide - (if you have questions, i'm sure grim would be happy to help)


i'll be using akira and shiro as examples.

a shinki's name is comprised of several different names.
their true name read in kunyomi/japanese.
their vessel name read in onyomi/chinese.
their name as a person, this is just their name with a simple suffix (-ne, -ha, -ma, etc) or a prefix (dai-) (i haven't done a regalia with a prefix though so i'll probably need to look into that aspect more)
and lastly their weapon name, which takes the pronunciation of their on reading and combines it with 器 (ki) meaning vessel or something like that.

-- so for starters pick a name but be sure to keep the name you pick relatively simple, like one kanji simple. ie; akira (明) and shiro (白).
-- once you have a name picked out you'll probably want to go to jisho.org (this makes things so much easier or at least it did for me). then you go to the lil search bar and you can either copy and paste your kanji or just type in the english spelling of it. on the right side several kanji will appear like this so you'll want to find the one with the meaning you want (in my case i wanted 白 meaning white).
-- alright, so here you can see that i copied and pasted the kanji i wanted to use, the little arrow is where you're going to want to click on the kanji. once you do that you should get a page that looks like something like this.
-- now you should see 'kun' and 'on'. these are your japanese/chinese readings, respectively. from here i just go to google translate and cross-check things. (yea yea, translate, sue me. d:)
-- i'm using shiro for the kun reading since akira's is a little wonky. now i copy this into translate and i get this, shiro. and that's p much all you need there.
-- so now i'm going to take the 'on' readings and copy and paste them into translate. so i picked the first one here and went to translate here and now i know that it's spelt 'mei' in english letters. (the other spellings have different pronunciations/spellings, as you can see here)
-- to get their weapon name you're going to take the kanji part of their name (in my case for akira it would be 明) and add 器 to the end of it. so now that i've done that i have 明器 and when i take it to translate i see it's pronounced as 'meiki', shown here. (please note this might not be accurate in translate as for shiro's i got shiroki rather than hakki)
-- finally (i do this step last, you can probably do it earlier if you want) you'll need your suffix, which is typically just a single kanji. for akira i chose the kanji 芽 (-me, pronounced 'may') meaning bud. put that with 明 (akira) and you get this (明芽 or akirame). just ignore the lil space there, because when i copy yukine's name it doesn't even properly show up, see?
