Daylight tickled Brooke's face, pulling her gently out of her slumber. With a yawn, Brooke pushed away the light covers she had thrown over herself the previous night and got up. She slipped out the tent door, still in her night clothes, and stated surveying the tents. It looked as though Josephine had already left, judging from her absence in the camp. Brooke scowled, wishing she had arisen earlier. Who knows what Josephine could be doing right now! What ever it was it probably beat standing around waiting for the other two of their comrades to awaken. Briefly Brooke thought about scarring them awake, but she then thought better of it: it wasn't worth getting the two of them mad at her all day. After all, they were lost and tension could get strung high very easily, so it would be best not to purposefully provoke negative feelings.B r o o k e

With that thought, Brooke decided to go find where ever Josephine had gone off to. She might as well enjoy the beauty of the land while she was helplessly lost in it. Grabbing up a light white sweater and throwing it on swiftly, Brooke strayed away from the imediate area of the camp, feeling the wetness of the earth beneath her. She hadn't gotten further than a few feet in her randomly chosen direction when the girl realized something: She was no tracker and definitely couldn't tell on her own where her companion had gone. Brooke needed to know at least which direction would be the proper one to head in. "Josephine!" She called out, cupping her hands around her mouth to project her call further, hoping that the other person would be close enough to hear her call even through the dense jungle.
Straining to hear a response come back to her, Brooke waited as still as could be. She could swear that she heard a deep rumbling descending down from the heights of the tree tops, but she flashed eyes eyes around the canopy and saw no such source of noise. It was probably her imagination, or perhaps a plane had passed high above and out of sight. What ever the case, she instantly forgot about it and focussed back on trying to locate Josephine.
