You stare blankly at the TV screen at the images flash by, hardly comprehending what you see. The same old boring news, it seems. Then, a story catches your attention. The reporter peers out of the glass at you, a serious look on their face as they deliver a news story that you've heard a few times, but it immediately interests you once more.

"This morning, a group of five people have been reported missing after venturing into Lycus Manor. This is only one of many occurrences of disappearance after spending the night in this ancient house. The police promptly searched the property and turned up nothing, just as all the times before. After another interrogation with the homeowner, they are no closer to solving these disappearances than before.

"The homeowner, a young man known by the name Xander Lycus, claims that he has nothing to do with the vanishings, just as he always has. He has even warned against people staying the night in his expansive house, but that apparently did not deter the last group from entering, not to leave again. The victims were between the ages of 19 and 28, and no sign of them, except some of their belongings that they took along with them into the house, was ever found. Authorities cannot directly link Lycus to the disappearances, aside from the fact that the people were in his home before they disappeared.

"There are no signs of disturbance within the house that would suggest any kind of struggle and it is highly unlikely that Lycus could take on five people, a couple of which were reportedly armed, at once and not leave any trace behind. This case and all the ones before it have left the entire town stupefied. No one can determine what happened, but many still point at Lycus, even though there is no evidence against him. Will we ever know what has become of these who have disappeared? Next, the weather-"

You switch off the TV and let out a scoff. What's so special about this house that so many are drawn to it, apparently to their ends? Of course, there are reports of paranormal activity, beside the fact that the house itself is a few centuries old. Maybe there's something else going on here. Something that you plan to figure out. With that thought, you resolve to go to the house and spend the night. Hopefully you won't meet an untimely end during the night, as all other that have attempted to make it through a night have.

I. Follow Tess' rules. If I don't cover something specific here, you should probably defer to these rules. Whatever Tess allows [and I don't explicitly disallow] I'll allow as well.

II. Metaplaying is NOT OKAY. [If you don't know what metaplaying is, it's the use of OOC knowledge IC] NOBODY shall use information they receive OOC for IC purposes. I may make a comment if your character "senses" something that would be difficult for a human to sense, aside from, you know, a sense of something creepy or whatever. This goes along with god-modding and powerplay, I guess, which are also not allowed.

III. Um . . . expect a little gore, maybe some minor, minor cursing. I'll try not to go into detail with the gore, but there will be blood. Lots of blood; and there'll be wine, but only for characters of correct age.

IV. Text talk is fine for the discussion thread, I guess, but I don't expect to find it IC. Please don't.

V. Romance is fine, I suppose. The purpose of this roleplay is for me to viciously and mercilessly murder all of your characters, but I guess if one character is attracted to another, that's fine, too. Defer to rule one for anything further.

VI. Read all of my notes, for they contain information that you WILL need.

VII. Any text that is lower than size 85 annoys me. Don't annoy me.

VIII. BE ACTIVE. As you will see below, it will affect you greatly if you are not active. I don't expect you to post every day [I won't even do that] but at least once-twice a week.

IX. It's a literate RP. So be literate. At least one paragraph per post, which means 10 good sentences.

I. Upon Joining:

XXXX➤ Forms are optional! But if you do want to add them, you can only post them on the discussion thread which will have a link somewhere around here.
To join, you must send a letter to Xander Lycus [IC, via PM to me] stating that you wish to come to his house. In this letter, you should say why you want to stay [and have a real reason, no "I just wanna see what it's like"], probably adding a profession that would be plausible for someone to wish to stay in the house, etc. This letter, as aforesaid, will be IC, so it should show some personality [as well as some basics about your character, age, gender, whatever]. YOUR CHARACTER WILL RECEIVE A LETTER IN RETURN [a PM from me, also IC]. If you don't receive one right away, not to fear, I haven't skipped over you, I'll be waiting for all the letters before I decide who to permit inside the manor. I will select only a few characters out of the ones I feel are the best [probably up to eight at maximum] so some people will receive a letter declining them from coming to the manor, usually with a reason. If I've already chosen the people I want, your letter may be "returned unopened." c:
This way, I can evaluate your literacy, grammar, etc, beforehand, which I find to be a fantastic advantage to me. You should also all be made aware that you will have no clue who will be in the roleplay until the return letters are received and perhaps if you decide to post triumphantly on the discussion thread that you've been accepted or if you post a form.
[*Note: If my return PM seems a bit rude, know that I am being IC and Xander can be a bit blunt. Nothing against you, of course cx]

XXXX➤ If you see the need to post a form, you can. It may save you the need to describe your character heavily while posting so that your fellow roleplayers know what your character looks like, and that's just fine! However, ONLY post these after you have received a return letter from Xander, allowing your character to enter his home. Any forms posted before that will be ignored and probably reported.


II. On characters:

XXXX➤ Characters can be any gender, sexuality, whatever, I don't really care. Characters should be between the ages of 18 and 30 - no children, no old folks, just young adults. If you decide to use a form, I guess it doesn't matter what kind of faceclaim you use; real or anime are both fine with me. If you don't use a picture, you should give a good description, either IC or in a form.

XXXX➤ As I said before, your character should have a profession that would make it plausible for the character to be permitted to stay in the house. Journalists would be drawn to the story, paranormal investigators would want to get in on the ghost action, and I'll stop there 'cause I'm using up all the good ones. I won't mind if you use one of those c;

XXXX➤ If your character is . . . like, an undercover cop or whatever, it's cool to be armed. I guess otherwise it's cool to be armed, too, although I don't know why a journalist or something would have a gun . . . I guess knives are okay, as well.


III. You should probably know:

XXXX➤ You may or may not have figured out that not all characters will come out of this alive. If you haven't: THERE'S A BIG POSSIBILITY THAT ALL CHARACTERS WILL DIE. There, you've had your warning. Nobody's meant to leave this house alive. If you don't want your character to die - oh well, buh-bye, see ya later, this roleplay isn't for you.

XXXX➤ For the sake of the plot, I will state now that all characters are at risk and nobody knows who will die and when. I won't even plan ahead, I'll just go with stuff as it comes, picking an opportunistic victim and then pouncing . . . that said, don't try to make your character an unlikely victim, it ruins the fun. Somebody's gotta be at the back of the group c; maybe I won't even go for that person, you never know.

XXXX➤ Whilst choosing who to kill off next as I figure up my post, things such as activity may come into play. If you're inactive, you'll likely be killed. You'll be notified afterwards, of course, but there won't be a forewarning. Excuses may or may not help you. If it's something serious and you tell me that you don't want your character to die just yet, then whatever, maybe I'll have a soft heart if the absence won't be too long. I, myself, most likely won't post on weekends [and during those times, your characters are fully welcome to just wander about and do stuff on their own - you don't need me to function] but my character will not be killed [heheh].

XXXX➤ If nobody's inactive, then the choice of who to kill may come down to a dice roll. You can choose your own numbers, I guess. If it lands on your number, you die c: simple as that.

XXXX➤ Perhaps when killing someone, I might be a little god-mod-y. It's not something that can be prevented, so . . . y'know, just go along with it. Once your character is dead, you can still follow along and post on the discussion thread. And . . . if you want it, you can still have a place in the next one if we decide to continue this . . . s'all about loyalty.

XXXX➤ Yeah, this roleplay is set to have an end. The actual IC part will only last for a single night, though said night will last as long as we need it to so that we can fit all of your deaths in. Whether or not this will continue after that will depend upon how successful it is.

➤ The Manor: This manor is a very large and expansive house, being three stories tall and with a seemingly endless amount of rooms within. The property includes a small wood, barn, and an old vineyard. The vineyard is abandoned - moved to another location. The young Lycus still owns it, of course, which is where he gets his large income. Oddly, the house doesn't seem to have many superficial flaws, even though it has stood for a few centuries. It has an aged look about it - ivy climbing up the walls, stuff like that - but the effects of time stop there. The first thing you notice when approaching the house is the wolf's head knockers on the door, which are pretty much gold wolf heads with their faces twisted in eternal snarls, handles for knocking hanging from their jaws. There are more wolf-related things inside, such as the many paintings of wolves. Legend says that it is because the family once had some members that suffered from lycanthropy, but more than likely it is just the symbol of the house. The inside of the manor is very fine, also with few flaws, aside from the occassional wine stain left on the rug by the young master. A lady comes by during the day to clean up, but she doesn't dare to stay the night and she doesn't speak of her time inside.

➤ More detail: In the parlor, there is a large fireplace with a taxidermied lion's head hanging on the mantle. It's unusual because the lion is purely black. It is the remnants of what was once the embodiment of the resident demon. Now it just hangs there, quite nonliving and nonthreatening. The interior of the house is decorated with paintings of wolves on the walls, many with a human in the same portrait. It seems that the Lycus family is tied to the beasts. The furniture is a bit dated, possibly from a few centuries past, but everything is in good condition.

➤ Beneath the surface: There's a large wine cellar underneath the house, containing a sample of each decade's wine. The young Lycus rather enjoys this commodity. The cellar is dark, dank, musty, also smelling of grapes in some places, but mostly of dust. It's very dark, as there is one light; most of the time, the majority of the cellar goes unlit.


➤ Deaths within the manor: Being that the Lycus family has lived inside the house for several centuries, there's bound to be some deaths. Most of them natural, the main causes were heart attacks, various cancers, strokes, etc. There were also a few suicides in the house, one recorded one being John Paul Lycus, who killed himself by hanging in one of the bedrooms. The spirits of those who died within the house are thought to still reside within by the paranormal investigators that visit, although none could prove this being as none of them ever came out of the house themselves. There were a few deaths that were of old age, nothing more, but the ones who died this way were thought to have serious mental issues.
