Yo, ho, yo ho, a Pirate's life for me! (NOT YET OPEN)

Postby Heemajeebit » Tue Nov 25, 2014 1:24 pm

THREAD WILL OPEN ONCE I FIGURE OUT WHO ALL IS COMING FROM THE PREVIOUS THREAD.

Yo! This is a remake of a thread that died! But with some slight differences as I don't wanna steal the original poster's plot and all that.

Because I'm lazy I'm just gonna give the gist of it. Someone else from the previous thread can elaborate if you want.

In the 16th Century piracy has been outlawed and the government has been cracking down on pirate ships and taking out crews where they can. Our story follows a certain ship, captained by Black Sam Bellamy. It's name is Whydah Gally, and they have been scouring the seas for treasure and adventure.

The Rules
- If you were in the last thread, you're automatically accepted. But please repost your bios for organization's sake!

- Post char here if you want to join (I don't do the whole "PM to reserve" thing). If you want to reserve a position while you work on a bio let me know but I won't hold it more than two days.

- Bios should have basic info (name, gender, age, etc.) and at least a brief history. I don't care if you don't have a photograph of your character as long as there's a basic description.

- Please don't have more characters than you can handle. It makes it really confusing.

- Benedick will decide who is Quartermaster and First Mate since the captain interacts with them closely, and it would not be realistic that the captain would put someone in those position that s/he doesn't like.

- Have fun!

Name: Shadow
Gender: Male
Age: 16-ish (his actual birthdate is unknown).
Role: Rigger
Weapon of Choice: His wits and ability to remain unnoticed. He has a pocket knife, but dislikes fighting with it.
Appearance: Shadow is of average height, standing at about 5’6”, and is very skinny. He has dark brown hair cut fairly neatly for one who lives on the streets (he cuts it himself, and is quite good at it as he learned quickly that people are much more hostile to the scruffy-looking) and yellow-green eyes. The only unusual thing about his appearance are four large canine fangs at the third teeth from the center. They are rounded, so the look more canine than vampire-like. He wears a loose white long sleeve and a black vest with black pants and brown leather boots.
Image here: [link] (Er, just imagine him with 16th century garb, haha)

Personality: At first glance Shadow appears to be cold and emotionless. Only speaking when spoken to for the most part, he likes to keep to himself and dislikes people for the most part. However he has a fairly strong sense of morals and could almost be considered chivalrous at times. Though he wouldn’t admit it, he likes young kids and enjoys helping out. Despite this, his instincts keep him distanced from most other people. The only one he has ever gotten close to emotionally is his dog, Fang. Anger is a very difficult emotion to get out of him, but once something sets him off it will usually snowball and get worse from there.
His survival instincts are second to none. He is quite street-smart, but lacks academic intelligence, as he has never attended school. He is illiterate and can’t read for the most part (he has numbers down pretty well but words are beyond him). Despite this, he has figured out street and shop signs by recognizing the different combinations of letters, though he couldn’t tell you what they say. This combined with his excellent sense of direction helps him navigate the various towns and cities he travels through.
The only thing he might actually enjoy doing is wood-carving. He always carries his pocketknife with him, and scrap wood generally isn’t too hard to find. He sells his carvings at various markets to make a sort of living. He’s also very good at sewing from years of having to patch up his own clothes.

History: Shadow was raised on the streets by a cruel man that had found him abandoned in an alley as an infant. He was raised with a harsh hand and was heavily scolded if he ever spoke out of turn. This taught Shadow to speak as little as possible. The man taught him how to survive the streets and even took him to the mountains on occasion to learn to survive in the wilderness. Shadow acquired skills such as trapping, skinning, and fishing with just a stick and some rope.
His name did not come from the man. The man usually just called him "boy" or "little rat". A shop owner once commented that he was as silent as a shadow when he was in a market trying to buy some supplies, and he liked the sound of it, so he began calling himself Shadow (not that he really had anyone to introduce himself to).
The man passed away of a hunger-induced illness when Shadow was just nine years old, leaving him to fend for himself. This turned out to be no problem, for he had been taught well. Shadow felt almost no sorrow for the man’s passing, as he had never liked the man anyway, and had often thought about running away. Though he does recognize that he owed the man for caring for and raising him, even if it wasn’t the happy childhood that most children get.
Shadow traveled around after that, going from town to town and doing odd jobs for people to make money for a decent meal on occasion. When he was ten he came across a man trying to drown a puppy. The man was extremely intoxicated and was shouting about how his prize show-husky had bred with a wolf and he was now trying to get rid of the offspring. The puppy’s siblings were already dead by the time Shadow stepped in to stop the man, which led to a scuffle that ended with a knife in Shadow’s chest, puncturing his lung. The man left after that, terrified that he would get caught in the act. He was so drunk that he barely even remembered the incidence.
The wound healed, but it healed incorrectly, leaving Shadow with respiratory problems to this day, especially when the weather turns cold. For this reason he always tries to stick to warmer regions, generally traveling south in the winter. The puppy, feeling indebted to Shadow, stuck with him, and Shadow named him Fang.
When he was sixteen he found himself on the run from a merchant he had tried to steal from and made it to the shipyard. A captain was looking for some help on his ship, so Shadow, still trying to get away from the merchant, jumped aboard and away he went. Noticing his prowess at climbing and how light on his feet he was, the captain gave Shadow the job of the rigger along with another on the ship.

Name: Fang
Gender: Male
Age: 5 or so
Appearance: Fang is a large wolf/husky hybrid, but the husky is more apparent in his markings. He has dark grey fur on his back, face, and the top of his tail, while his belly and legs are white. He has two white spots above his eyes and his muzzle is white. As for his build he has the long legs and thick coat of a wolf. His shoulders are broad and strong and his tail curls slightly. Around his neck sits a dark brown leather collar.

Personality: Fang is fiercely loyal to Shadow and would protect him with his life. He is generally a serious dog, but occasionally can show a slightly playful side around Shadow. Hostility rules his demeanor around strangers, but he is easily calmed by Shadow if he needs to be. He is not hugely fond of the life on the ship, but tolerates it so that he can stay with Shadow. When Shadow is up in the rigging doing his job, he tends to hide from other crew members.

History: Fang’s mother was a prized show husky, and his father was a wolf from the forest near where his mother lived. When his mother’s owner figured out that his dog had had wolf puppies and was not bred to another prize show husky as he had originally thought, he got drunk and angrily tried to drown Fang and his littermates. Fang was the last to go before a boy stepped in and stopped the man. Shadow had saved Fang’s life, and he understood that to a degree. So he stuck with the boy, coming to adore him with all the loyalty that dogs are gifted with.
He has stayed by Shadow’s side ever since. He quickly learned to hunt, as Shadow could barely provide for himself let alone for the dog, and can usually catch enough mice, rats, and squirrels to keep himself going. This works to the crew's advantage as he has been able to keep the ship largely free of rats, having better hunting skills than a cat.
If the fate of the Earth was in my hands....we'd all be doomed.

Re: Yo, ho, yo ho, a Pirate's life for me! (NOT YET OPEN)

Postby RunsWithScissors » Tue Nov 25, 2014 4:19 pm

Name:
Cecily Baker

Alias:
Peter Baker

Gender:
Female, disguises as a male for her safety

Age:
17 years

Birthdate:
June 28th

------------------------------

Eyes:
Wide set and slightly narrowed, a dull mint green colour.

Face/Skin:
Fair, but tans easily and rarely burns. Minor acne scarring on face and many assorted scars and calluses on her hands. Cecily has high cheekbones and a strong jaw, accentuated by a long nose that is slightly bent from being broken one too many times. If she tried, she could have a semi-feminine appearance, but luck is on her side. Paired with a gravelly voice, she could pass as a pretty boy.

Hair:
Coal black, kept medium-short in a braid tucked under a hat.

Build:
Tall for a woman, she stands at 5'7, and is rather slim and wiry for the man she pretends to be, which allows her to easily manoeuvre herself around the riggings. She is skinnier than average, even for a woman, due to a lack of food. She is muscular for a female, which makes for easy climbing. Her muscle has been gained mostly by climbing through windows and running from the law.

----------------------------

Personality:
Stubborn, headstrong and impulsive, Cecily is definitely a firecracker. She is extremely hot-headed and loves the adrenaline of a good fight. Due to her upbringing, her primary weapon is a knife or dagger. She is most comfortable in close range combat. Most of her opponents have been the type to choose a big, bulky weapon to boost their male pride, so in close quarters she has a decided advantage over swords. She's never really been one to have friends, preferring to guard her secret with her sharp tongue. She figures that her best defence is her skills. Nobody would suspect her of being female, because no man would confess to being bested by a woman.

History:
As her last name would suggest, Cecily is the daughter of a baker, from a small town in the middle of nowhere. She was beaten regularly for the slightest of offenses, and starved for three days if a loaf of bread burnt. When she was eight years old, the tiny building that doubled as their home and shop burnt down in the night. Both of her parents were either smothered by the smoke in their sleep of burnt to a crisp. Either way, they never made it out alive. Cecily had not been home at the time. She had been in the neighbour's house, stealing whatever trinkets she thought could sell as a means of escaping the hell of her home. Nobody ever found her. She was assumed dead with her parents, her tiny bones turned to dust. A grave in that town is dedicated to the eight year old girl who never truly died. As it turns out, she was hard to kill. She walked to the next town over, sold what she could and plodded on until she found a large city. There, she started a heart-pounding, adrenaline filled career in thievery. It was when she was nine that she started to disguise herself as a boy. The streets weren't safe for little girls, no matter how nimble or clever they were. In the years since then, Cecily has been in more than her fair share of both scraps and proper brawls, as well as a good deal of run-ins with the law. She's fended off five attempts to take her life, until she robbed the wrong merchant, who now seeks his revenge. She took to the taverns and shipyards to hide, and will continue hiding until either the merchant gives up or she dies.

Parents & Siblings:
Henry Baker-Died age 43
Katherine Baker-Died age 34

Sexuality:
Straight as the plank she'd be walking if she was found out.

----------------------------

Likes:
Fresh air, daggers, fights, climbing, winning, blood

Dislikes:
Losing, staying still, cooking, doctors

Fears:
Hired killers, wildfires, being discovered as female

Dreams:

Escape her troubles and settle into a comfortable life of crime elsewhere

Other:
Is a rigger

Name: Black Sam Bellamy

Age: 22

Gender: Male

Role: Captain

Appearance: (I will post a photo soon.) More or less, he's an english gentleman with impecibly tailored, impractically beautiful, garb. A hat so epic and feather filled, it can act like an umbrella for several men. He uses the finest crafted weapons from the caribbean, high speed steel swords, silver imbeded flintlocks.

Personality: Black Sam is a man who knows things. Things he probably has no business knowing, and his knowledge has made him very rich. He laughs and jokes with people, but he can be deadly serious if and only if he doesn't fully understand a situation. Even in combat, he's already gone through the scenarios in his mind enough to know who the winner is. So if you catch him with a frown, you should be frowning too.

Weapons: Visibly he wears a cutlass on either hip and the hilt of a smaller one peaking above his right shoulder. He has a pistol on either hip as well as two more on holsters in the small of his back, consealed by his large black cloak.

Backstory: Sam was born to the sound of his mother dying in 1689, as the youngest of six, he decided he had had enough of the family life at a young age. As a teen, he joined the Royal Navy, going on several missions before defecting. He took to treasure salvaging, but when the ships on the coast yielded little gold, he turned to piracy, serving under Ben Hornigold, and rising through the ranks quickly.

By summer 1716, the crew had become irritated by Hornigold's unwillingness to attack british ships. They disposed of him as their leader and elected Sam Bellamy as their new captain.

Ship: "Whydah Gally" Is the name of this fully rigged Pirate Gally. Originally it was a slave ship working the trans-atlantic slave route, but Bellamy secured it, re-worked and re-purposed the rigging as well as liberating the slaves aboard. 300 tons, 102 feet long, 26 guns with 30 bellow deck.

Currently the 3-mast ship has 90 sailors, but can support 150.
"Me thinks, mistress, you should have little reason for that. And yet to say the truth reason and love keep little company together, nowadays."

"You are a villain, I jest not."

"One touch of nature makes the whole world kin."

"If music be the food of love, play on, Give me excess of it;"

"I do not know why yet I live to say "This things to do," sith I have strength and cause and will and means to do't."
