ALEXANDER LOUIS BONFILS
duke of bymere

He was glad that the foreign prince did nothing on the subject of his late wife other than offering his condolences: his head dipped down as he accepted the words before the conversation was moved onwards. Waving a hand, Alexander began to move from the hallway - it was hardly a suitable place to speak and Prince Haylin would likely be tired from his journey. Just a few feet ahead was a door that opened up into a reception room, and further on, a grand dining room. "I expect Prince Merek will be arriving in the next couple of hours," he replied formally as two servants opened the doors. The reception room held a massive, inviting hearth, a multitude of plush chairs and a decorative alcohol dome painted to look like various scenes from mythology. Large velvet curtains hung at the windows, and many tapestries decorated the walls. "Please take a seat. Would you like something to drink?" Alexander stored a bottle of whisky, gin, rum, ale and three types of wine in the dome. Water was for the poor.

彡KOVU彡 wrote: Scarlett had risen early, even for a knight, and was currently in the stables, brushing down her mount. She stood, dressed in a simple cotton shirt, dark breeches and her long leather boots, her hand moving quickly over the dark grey coat in an action she'd done many a time before. She then walked into the tack store, retrieving her horse's saddle and bridle. She quickly saddled Storm, and, calling her dog out from his position by the door, led him out, swinging up into the saddle with ease. She nudged him into trot, heading out from the stabling area and eventually cantering out of the Halidom towards the open countryside. She pulled her horse back down into a trot and eventually a walk, circling around in a large field not far from the castle. She halted, then dismounted, leaving her horse to chew grass whilst she hunted around under a push for the straw-stuffed sacks on sticks that she used for training. She stabbed them into the ground, before mounting Storm once more and cantering towards the dummies, which were at the same height as a man or woman on horseback. She egged her horse on, and, coming up alongside the first one, sent her blade straight through. The second one was on the alternate side, so her sword crossed over her rein hand before also going straight through the dummy. Although she was a knight, she was young, and many of her comrades doubted her because of this, so every morning she came out to this field to train in secret, although one or two of the knights knew of the place.

"Excellent!" Haylin exclaimed and put his hands together. He prayed to his country's gods that all the rumours he heard about the other prince would prove to be false. Of course there was no use in getting your hopes up, after all, most young royalty was spoiled and rude, in the end Prince Merek would probably be no different. The only reason that Haylin turned out, well in a way, better than some of the nobility was because his parents were furiously strict with him and in Yangsan was very different when it came to what they did with their royalty. The younger siblings of the heir would have to prove themselves useful so they could later serve their eldest sibling, or in the case of an unfortunate "accident," a spare could be provided. Haylin took the seat offered to him and marveled at the architectural differences, almost forgetting that the Lord as speaking to him. "Oh! I..yes, if it is not too much trouble," The prince replied, stumbling over his own words a bit. He was a bit curious as to what alcoholic drinks the foreigners here had to offer.

Maria silently breathed a sigh of relief. She was surprised that the knight actually turned out to be there but was not ungrateful. Thank the gods he was there, or else she might have made a complete fool of herself. She offered a small smile to Lionel and asked, "Is there anything specific you would like me to keep my eye out for during this...uh...assignment?" Maria didn't know how else she could put it.

ooc: sorry for the slow reply; things have been a little hectic recently. unfortunately i probably wont be able to reply for the rest of this week, as my access to internet will be (even more) unreliable. also, kovu, i can't reply to scarlett if she's still in the castle, since the only characters who'd have access there aren't actually, well, there. if she goes into town then maybe i can.

Having finally got a hold of the tomes, Arren was free to wander the rest of the marketplace at her leisure, investigating to her heart's content. Unfortunately, she greatly disliked the marketplace, filled with scents and bodies and heat as it was. What was on offer was frequently interesting and rarely useful, but the feeling of being crushed by the masses was far less pleasant. What would suit her best would be if the stock were the only thing there. Ah well.

Lionel observed stoically, as usual, as the prince clambered onto his horse in a less than graceful manner. He had heard of, but never witnessed, the sheer gracelessness that was the prince's riding. Capable, of course, but it lacked finesse and the presence one would expect of a royal. Someone had clearly never taken the time to instruct the boy on how to correctly ride, and he'd just made it up as he'd seen fit. "We are to escort the prince to Bymere, so keep a look out for bandits or the sort. We shall leave now I believe. There's a horse ready for you." The Rouncey was a good, solid horse, kin of his own. He'd have offered her Wyvern himself, but since Blackfly was ill that was not an option. He was a little anxious to get going to be honest, as they were running late, but there was nothing in his manner that showed even the slightest bit of urgency.
